Strada Cafe, Heckmondwike in Kirklees

Been here many times. Food quality was ok to begin with. The last time we visited the owner came across very stressed and panicky about everything. He’s tone and attitude towards the staff was demeaning and awful - I’m shocked they still work for him. He openly puts them down in front of customers. Lack of customer service and unprofessional. Food: Ordered a luxury hot chocolate. He had no cream so instead of asking if we still want it, he poured ‘extra marshmallows’ into the hot chocolate making it undrinkable and nasty. We were charged for a luxury hot chocolate. Didn’t raise a point about this as like I said anything we mentioned stressed the guy out. Turkish eggs - from my knowledge this is a dish with eggs on a bed of yoghurt. Previously ordered this dish and had ‘some’ yoghurt. Nowhere near as much as the dish should have. This time around - I ordered the Turkish eggs but wanted well done eggs. They came as not well done so I asked for them to be done again. The waitress offered to take it back and redo. I said to the owner not to add any extra chilli for decoration after the eggs are done as it gets too spicy. The request was an issue. When the plate arrived, I noticed there was no yoghurt on the plate or whatever they’d added had been removed due to eggs getting done again. When I showed this to the owner, without even looking at the plate, he said I should’ve asked for extra yoghurt. He didn’t even let me explain that there is NO yoghurt on the plate. As my baby was crying, I gave in and said it’s fine. He didn’t acknowledge that he was being difficult whilst we were trying to just eat and get out as quick as possible. He bought extra yoghurt and argued that they purposely put less yoghurt because that’s how the customers like it. Drinks- we ordered a mango and guava special but were given a rubicon mango drink. Family friendly? Absolutely not. Once he had an issue with us wanting to take a pushchair and this time he had an issue with where the highchair was placed even though it wasn’t blocking any space or unsafe. The quality of food and ingredients has dropped massively. The portion sizes compared to most breakfast places are tiny. You can order a full breakfast for £10 and will still leave starving. 1 toast, 1 egg, etc. Unless you pay extra for a bigger portion- scam! After my experience this time round and speaking to people I know. My experience wasn’t an isolated event. People have had rude comments and he has been inwelcoming towards kids or pushchairs. As we left the owner tried to make excuses for the crap service saying he is training the new staff but unfortunately it’s not the staff it’s the owner who needs to fix up and manage more patiently and better for the business to keep going. Sadly, I felt the need to leave this honest review as every business should work towards getting better and take criticism on board. Our morning as a family of three was ruined due to this experience.

I stopped in for coffee with my teenagers and they were blown away by the mad alchemy of the nutella latte. I returned and Ivan's knowledge of coffee and tea is matched only by his enthusiasm for good food and conversation. His cortado is heavenly and his chai latte is simply divine. I had to come back and try the food and I had the eggs benedict whilst my daughter had the French toast. I cannot describe how beautiful the food looked and the freshness has to be tried to be believed. I've been back a few times and have tried a different dish and coffee each time and have yet to be disappointed. I can highly recommend staking out a seat early and just enjoying the atmosphere whilst your food is freshly prepared. I cannot wait for my next visit.

We had heard loads about this place so needed to try it. Soooooo good! Busy, bustling - looked like we might not get a table but the lovely owner made sure we did. Waiting staff were friendly and efficient. We ordered Mediterranean breakfast with halloumi & potatoes: gorgeous. Well cooked, spicy, moreish. So glad we went along.

The best breakfast ever!!!!! Haldi chai was absolutely amazing. Breakfast on point! This small business deserves all the recognition it deserves. Very welcoming and so heart warming. Was given a cardamon bun as complementary- wow it was delicious. There is no doubt that this is by new favourite cafe. Please try it for yourself - it will not disappoint.

We stopped off at Strada Cafe for breakfast for the first time… we checked out a fabulous looking menu and ordered… Ivan the owner came and introduced himself and sent out some tasty extras for us to sample alongside our orders… fabulous tasty well sourced food… friendly staff and timely… and Ivan is a passionate food guru and host… we will be going back to try something else.

Very difficult to describe the quality of food as it was so good but unique is a word I would use. The flavours in the South African breakfast were amazing as was the entire experience! Great service and ambience as well!

Found this place looking on line, and what a find. Fantastic food and the nuttela coffee is to die for. The owner was very chatty and clearly enthusiastic and very proud about his food. We had the Philly cheese steak and it was exceptional. Can't wait to come back to work my way through the menu.

Unusual menu which is good and quality of food is high. Breakfast had one spicy lamb sausage , no bacon and served in bowl to make it look more. Most items seem to be spiced including the beans and brown sauce. To be honest I found the owner a little overbearing but this may not be a problem to other customers . If I go for breakfast I want to have a conversation with those I arrive with and not have to comment on how nice my sausage was or be persuaded to drink the special tea when I only want ordinary tea. The cafe needs to make the most of its quality and advertise the menu better, maybe in the window or elsewhere. The owner needs to leave the staff to do their job and let the customers choose their own food and drink.

Fabulous cafe that serves top notch food bursting with flavour. My favourite is special breakfast and the biscoff French toast. Quality drinks and good service.

What a local find! My husband and I have just been to Strada for the first time for breakfast ( our favourite meal out). Strada - offers an amazing choice of breakfast menu options ( savoury and sweet) with an equally wonderful choice of teas! We each had Spanish hash - a base of fried potato with fresh tomato and caramelised onion sauce to which you can then add your choice of eggs/ bacon/ spicy beans/ sausage. It was delicious - a really interesting variation on cooked breakfast. Strada is a small quirky cafe run by owner Ivan who is passionate about good food and chatting to his customers to ensure they enjoy their visit. Thanks Ivan, we’ll be back for sure.

Horrific service on the owners part. Owner was beyond rude, nosey and pushy. After choosing an item from the menu, he coerced me to choose something he preferred. I agreed politely as I did not want to appear rude. He then badgered me about my personal life and proceeded to interrogate my marital status (or lack thereof, which he seemed incredibly concerned about). He then lectured me and told me, in so many words, I would expire once I hit 30 if I did not marry. This was all prior to the food arriving. I was shocked, appalled and disgusted to say the least. AVOID THIS CAFE AND ITS MISOGYNISTIC OWNER

Absolutely incredible. There are a wide variety of options on the menu and I dare say every single one is gastromically spectacular. I can personally only attest to the Turkish Eggs and the Handmade Brioche French Toast so far but both were incredibly delicious and very affordable. Based on the food alone this restaurant is a gem, well worth a visit whether you're in the area, it's even worth a drive over if you're nearby as it's easily worth an hours drive. Aside from the incredible food, the staff are an absolute delight. The restaurant is owned by a gentleman who is not only an incredibly inventive and talented chef but is also hugely passionate about what he does and that passion shows through in everything they do. From the staggering number of exotic loose leaf teas to choose from to the care and presentation that goes into plating up the dishes. I was fortunate enough to be sat facing towards the open kitchen and it was a joy to watch someone work who puts his heart and soul into everything he does. The waiting staff all compliment the ambiance of the cafe and our needs were catered to excellently. Of particular note was the lady who we spoke to as we paid our bill (I'm afraid I didn't catch your name). Based on our first visit I can confirm with absolute certainty it won't be our last and our only frustration is that it's taken us so long to find this sensational eatery! One final thing I'd add is that there seems to be one rather damning 1 star review. I can only assume the person who left this either visited somewhere else and got confused or had an axe to grind somehow. All the staff were incredibly friendly and the chef/owner was always checking in with the diners to make sure they were enjoying their experience.

Honestly only positive things to say, fresh home made food, hand made sausages, great service. Obvious a lot of love goes into the food and the cafe.

Been there several times. The service has gone down hill. The back of cafe is a mess boxes everywhere and looks very cramped, very unorganised. Prices are high and the owner needs to have training in customer service. Very rude man!

This place was recommended and we went this morning just after opening with my husband and 6 year old for breakfast. The coffee was really smooth and the shakshuka was out of this world. My husband had a breakfast and my daughter had a kids breakfast. The staff including the owner were friendly and down to earth. We will definitely be back soon. If you want something different and really tasting you need to pay this place a visit.

Discovered this by accident on Google, turned out to be a real gem. Very enthusiastic, helpful owner, passionate about his food. Wide choice, our meals were very good with a lot of care taken in their preparation. Good value, will definitely be re-visiting. Highly recommended.

Just called in here during a dog walk and had breakfast. It's been a while since we visited last, but we're so glad we did today. The food was glorious and very tasty, and the owner and team were super friendly. It's good to see locally grown food being used, and the coffee is great. We visited Stada cafe on the recommendation of a friend and it did not disappoint. We were greeted by Ivan who was only too happy to take time to chat and give recommendations about his food. The food!!! My husband and I chose different breakfast plates and were both blown away by the complexity of spice in both dishes. They were delicious, can’t wait to return and try more.
