We had Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday. The meal was absolutely superb, the best Sunday lunch I've ever eaten in a restaurant. The soup I had was absolutely delicious, the roast chicken was cooked beautifully with stuffing, roast potatoes, red cabbage, brocolli, green beans and carrots. I even got a massive Yorkshire pudding! My husband had satay chicken to start, absolutely lovely, then roast beef, cooked just the way he likes it. Another in our party had the pork with crackling, she loved it. Desserts were delicious too, chocolate torte, poached pear and Baileys cheesecake, I was so full, I couldn't manage one but just had a taste. Then coffee and a chocolate. Wow, amazing and well worth the money. Oh, and the staff were brilliant too. I'd recommend this to everyone.

Our work Christmas event was here in December, the building is beautiful, the bar is intimate with a modest selection. We ate, as a group of around 20 in one of the side rooms, all around one large table, the food was ok, while I recognize serving everyone together is difficult to get it all out quickly, I did feel there was too much of a gap between the first and last of each course especially as we pre-ordered. No one took drinks orders at table which meant we had to go through to the bar which was an inconvenience.

Afternoon tea with friends was very disappointing. We had our own room which was nice, however the table was enormous and so it was impossible to interact with anyone unless they were near you. The food consisted of finger sandwiches which were nice and very few tiny stale cheese straws. No sausage rolls or quiche as you’d normally expect. The cakes were an improvement but again quite basic, no little mousse pots or macaroons. The building is beautiful but very dated as is the furnishings and decor, of course no air conditioning. So many more places do an afternoon tea for cheaper and classier, a shame really.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at Stower Grange for my husband's 70th birthday celebrations! We had 20 friends attending a dinner on Friday evening, followed by a family lunch for 16 on the Saturday. The venue was just perfect with a private function room for both events. We stayed overnight and our room was lovely with windows overlooking the front, very comfortable king bed, extremely spacious and well equipped. When we booked the functions with Jane and Richard (the owners) they were very accommodating and flexible. All the staff were very helpful, friendly and efficient throughout the booking and organisation process. The Friday evening was managed exceptionally well by Linzi. She worked very hard to make sure the evening was a complete success. We had a champagne reception in the lounge, and Linzi even lit the fire to make it more homely and inviting. In fact, throughout the evening she was an absolute star and made sure we had everything we needed. One or two of the guests provided surprise entertainment and music, and Linzi timed each course around the entertainment, which made sure the whole evening went very smoothly. The food was delicious! We had many comments about the quality of the food. The menu choice was brilliant and food was adapted for dairy and gluten intolerance. We had hot canapes with the champagne reception; followed by a three course meal, coffee and petit fours. All the food was hot, and Linzi and her team were outstanding! The family lunch on Saturday was held in the same function room - this time we sat round one enormous table. Once again, the service and quality of food was exceptional! The roast beef and pork were very tender and the roast potatoes award winning! Christine, Sally and Tom were very attentive and made sure everything ran smoothly. It all felt like a home from home experience, and we cannot fault any aspect. We would strongly recommend the Stower Grange, and very much look forward to going back in the near future. A sincere thank you to Linzi, Christine, Tom and Sally for all their hard work in making my husband's 70th a weekend to remember!

We booked a separate room for our group of 16 people (all adults) for a recent Sunday lunchtime. Menus were issued in advance for us to make our choices. Gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan catered for. Very enjoyable, good quality meal with ample veg. We were not rushed in between courses, with time between about right. Attentive and helpful staff both prior to the day and on the day itself.

We stayed here for two nights before picking up our hire boat for a week on the Broads, and we were very happy. The husband and wife team who (I think) own the hotel are good at what they do. Booking was simple, and emails were answered quickly. Once we arrived, our temperatures were taken, hand gel was available at the entrance, the staff wore masks while serving, and the only room service available was by request. All very comforting. The hotel is a lovely old building, full of character, with a very homely feel. If you are looking for a modern, “all rooms identical, Scandinavian furniture, room like an office, can’t tell one hotel in the chain from another”, you won’t like Stower Grange. Our room was clean, large, with two large windows, and a large comfortable bed. Tea and coffee making was available, and topped up by request at reception. Unusually – and greatly appreciated – fresh milk was available in a jug as neither of us much care for tea made with UHT milk. The bathroom was again large and clean, with large fluffy towels and scads of hot water available. A pleasure to shower (or bath if you prefer) in the morning. The food was excellent. The chefs accompaniments on the dinner menu were sometimes unusual, but always tasty, served piping hot, and I was allowed an amount of mix-n-match. Breakfast was the usual options, and again, very tasty and piping hot. Negatives? I can’t think of any. I can thoroughly recommend Stower Grange, and we will certainly return if we need a bed in the Norwich area again.

We ate here as our first meal out after lockdown was lifted and couldn't fault the experience. We were greeted but a friendly member of staff on entry and our temperatures taken. The sun was shining so they offered us a seat outside whilst we had a look at the menu and a drink. Once we ordered they offered us our table outside but we requested that we stay outside as the garden area is so lovely and peaceful, they happily obliged and set up our table for the meal. They wrote our names on our menus so that they weren't shared between other tables. We ordered 3 courses. All of the food was excellent but the Roast was fabulous! Options were beef, pork or chicken for Sunday lunch with other options available on the menu if you fancy something different. We all requested beef and pork, which again they were more than happy to do for us. A generous portion arrived, with huge homemade yorkshire pudding and lots of seasonal veg. They also gave us some extra gravy in a jug when requested. The menu is also a reasonably priced 'set menu' option. The staff were so friendly and nothing felt like too much trouble. We felt safe with the extra precautions that had been put in to place and we will absolutely be returning!

Stower Grange seems to get good reviews prompting our visit for Sunday lunch. No doubt once eupon a time it was a smart place & still has an attractive exterior but sadly the inside decor is wanting. It needs a thorough revamp to get to the level it should be at. It is dated and lacking ambience. The furnishings are tired and mismatched. It is a pity and I hope it can be revived. The food is good and locally sourced - if very traditional. The service is ok - not bad at all. But it seems stuck in the past living off its former reputation. I'm sure it does very well from weekday businessmen visiting Anglian Windows and Bernard Matthews overnighting here and the weekend parties but we didn't feel comfortable or relaxed . Maybe it is us but I think there are better venues. Sorry.

My daughter found this restaurant/hotel and so we booked it for Father's Day. We received a warm welcome and then we sat in the bar area looking at the menu while our table was being laid.We were then taken to our table by the window with a view of the front garden. The staff are very polite, efficient and attentive. We had a three course meal, and then added a cheese board.I can't remember exactly what I ate but the food was delicious. Normally I am very fussy and I chop and change the dish. However, I didn't have to change anything and I am glad I didn't. Portion size was good, the food was hot and the service was at a steady pace.A lovely meal, well worth the money and we will be returning.

Edificio encantador, y exterior.

We used to lunch at the Stower Grange quite regularly and regarded it as "very good / excellent" but we hadn't dined there for 18 months after an uncharacteristically poor meal - but we returned the other day since this is so convenient for us, it was silly not to include it "in our rounds".......we found the meal "nice in parts" - but it just didn't offer the consistency / high standards throughout that we had always felt we could depend upon. It really only rated an "average" from us and our next visit will now probably be in the sometime / never category. Shame

Stower Grange is great because of the professional and friendly way the guests and diners are treated by the staff together with well presented locally sourced food. The restaurant at Stower Grange merits much of the praise showered on it in the reviews in which it is graded here as "Excellent". It certainly feels a special place. Sadly, yesterday evening, my wife was served a completely inedible fish starter. (No reputable chef would have allowed it to leave the kitchen.) While the owner was extremely apologetic, and a substitute dish was speedily produced, the damage had been done. The remainder of our food was faultless, but the evening had been marred. After two courses, we paid the bill in full, left a 12% tip and went home. For future reference, the starter in question was styled "Gin and tonic salmon". It comprised principally a thick piece of skin-on salmon fillet that had simply not been left in a marinade for a sufficient time. It was also warm, suggesting that someone had zapped it in a microwave in a last minute attempt to render it edible.

Our starter was lobster and prawns on a bed of rocket with a lovely sauce followed by the most amazing beef fillet and dauphinois potatoes with carrots and green beans. My husband & I were at Stower Grange in Drayton near Norwich yesterday in a group of about 50 people to celebrate the life of a very dear friend who died recently. Not the best reason to be there perhaps but the afternoon tea which was provided was absolutely faultless. When we arrived there was a full bar available for those who wished to have an alcoholic drink or limitless tea and coffee. Then followed a seemingly endless stream of very pleasant waitresses bearing a huge selection of finger sandwiches, sausage roulades, quiche & plaice gougons with tartare sauce, all of which were served to each table. Every item was truly delicious and I'm sure many of us would have loved the recipe for the quiche !We were then plied with warm-from-the-oven fruit scones with butter, cream and jam, followed by mini chocolate eclairs - not just any chocolate but what I'm sure was Belgian chocolate ! My mouth is watering just thinking about it all.Obviously the food was chosen by our host but I'm sure that anyone going to Stower Grange for an afternoon tea would be as delighted as we were. Although I can only comment in the room my wife and I occupied which was in the attic, up steep stairs, and was very small. No wardrobe for clothes the flat television on the wall was one of the smallest I've ever seen. The breakfast was better than most Hotels and the staff were very helpful. Our party was fortunate to be going to a function in Norwich on the Saturday evening as the Hotel had a wedding function including meal and disco, if we had stayed in we would have had trouble being together in the lounge. I must mention that other rooms were much better than ours even the next attic room was much bigger than ours. We did not book direct, one of our party organised it. The room concerned was named Sage. I would stay again but make sure it was a larger room

We stopped for one night 3rd May 2014 and what a find.We found the hotel on trip advisor and given the hotels 3 star rating wasn't sure what to expect on arrival. The Hotel is lovely, well kept with a warm friendly atmosphere and we recommend Stower Grange to all.We usually like to try somewhere different on our regular weekend trips away but will definitely go back to Stower Grange for sure. The 3 star rating is most definitely an error given our experience and would rate the Hotel easily a 4 star rating. Thank You Stower Grange

Sunday lunch with the parents. Nice food but again, another place in Norwich where the chef can't make a sauce. Sauce with the chicken was like chicken flavoured water. But overall good food and lovely service. The venue is beautiful from the outside but really needs updating on the interior, very tired decorations and furnishings, bit like eating in an old peoples home in the 80s. Such a shame because with a little updating it could be very special.

Going to Stower Grange for lunch has always been a family treat but today was rather a disappointment. There was nothing major wrong but there was quite a few niggling problems. The reason I didn’t complain at the time was that I didn’t want to throw a shadow over a family occasion.I ordered a pre-lunch drink of gin and tonic, the waitress decided how much tonic I wanted and completely drowned the gin.My soup was mouth scaldingly hot but my main course was only just hot enough not to be sent back. Once I had trimmed the thick layer of fat off my beef there wasn’t much beef left. My dessert of apple crumble crème brulee was OK but there was an awful lot of crème and hardly any apple.Service was quite slow throughout the meal and we started our main course rather than let it go cold waiting for the horseradish to arrive. The same happened when we were offered cream with our dessert; I had eaten half of it before the cream arrived. When we had our tea and coffee after our meal we had to wait for a coffee cup to be brought. Half-way through the meal the CD player jammed playing the same few notes and it took over five minutes for a member of staff to show up and do something about it. I don’t want to be watched while I eat my meal but it would be nice if someone had been keeping an eye on things. When I wanted to pay I had to go and find someone to take my money, they were all in the kitchen. The dining room and lounge were distinctly chilly. When we arrived, there had been a nice fire in the lounge but when we sat in there to have our coffee it had gone out and nobody had put any more fuel on it.On the plus side the building is super even if the décor is getting a bit tired. The Tempranillo wine is not the most expensive but is very drinkable. The staff are very friendly when you can find them. Mostly the food was good; my daughter had the venison and was very happy with it.Would I go again? Maybe, as I’ve had very positive experiences in the past, but another experience like today would mean that I would look for somewhere else for family treats.

Sunday lunch was absolutely delicious. The service was excellent. Presentation was really good and the food was really lovely. I had chicken satay which was very tasty and venison for main. The meat was really tender, gravy and jus was really nice and the veg beautiful cooked and it all looked really good.It was a really nice pre- Christmas meal in a lovely relaxed atmosphere with a mixture of couples and families of all ages.Excellent. One of the best meals we've had for a long time.

I love coming to Stower grange, it's always an excuse to treat yourself and they always make you feel special and welcome. The menu is always interesting and varied and the meal itself never fails to delight. If you're looking for a special meal or a family do this is perfect. Christmas party nights are great fun - with the same amazing food and friendly service plus the dancing. Tip Top!

As a treat we recently paid a return visit to the restaurant at Stower Grange in order to have a quiet romantic meal for the two of us before the manic festive season. We found that it still maintained the high standards of previous visits and was just what we wanted. Upon on arrival we were greeted warmly and shown through to the lounge for pre dinner drinks and given enough time to consider the menu choices before being taken through to our table. We ordered Thai Chicken and the soup of the day (tomato and Basil) for starters, Turkey(well it is nearly Christmas but this was a nice twist!!) Wellington and Sea bass dish followed by Fresh fruit terrine and a selection of cheese for dessert. In summary, as with previous visits we found that the food was superb and the service we received was attentive without being overpowering.

We chose Stower Grange as it was a convenient place to meet up with a couple of old friends, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. A nice traditional setting, with excellent staff who managed to be both friendly and efficient. The Christmas menu was on the go, but we stuck to the normal restaurant offering. The starters were lovely - my home-made pate was delicious, and the portion so large I could have called it a day then! My friends both had steak, and declared it the best meat they'd ever eaten. They both went medium-rare, which is very difficult to get right, but they both looked bang-on. I had a lovely sweet, melt-in-in the mouth venison casserole, with a delicious orange mash. I was a bit suspicious when I saw the mash had been flavoured with orange, but it was a lovely contemporary twist, and the sweetness of the orange worked perfectly with the venison. I'd never seen that before, but it was really good. Nice firm crème brulee, perfectly crusted, to finish. We had quite a lot of very good wine to drink, so everything got a little bit hazy by this time! All in all, an excellent discovery. NIce to be looked after properly, and the food was exceptional.

Booked this restaurant for our anniversary as wanted to go somewhere nice, also to try somewhere we hadn't been before.Started off ok, on arrival shown into the lounge where a lovely wood burning fire was on the go.After ordering our food we didn't have to wait long before we were shown to our table.I have no complaints about the quality of the food, it was just a shame about the service. There was a lot of commotion and coming and going with the staff clearing cutlery/ glasses from tables already set up in our dining room to move to another room, hardly the sort of atmosphere/ambience you want while trying to enjoy your meal.Might as well have been in a canteen somewhere.

Have been meaning to go to this restaurant for a long time as not far from home. We went with friends looking forward to a lovely meal, however the Ealing though nice the service was very slow and the atmosphere very dull and uninspiring. The building is lovely and Beutiful grounds so should be a real gem!

We booked for 4 for Saturday night. On arrival we were sat in the lounge / bar area and we ordered drinks. Wine selection very good. We gave our orders in the lounge and were then led to the dining room. Overall the building is beautiful and the lounge and restaurant are very traditional, nothing amazing to report. We all ordered the liver pate and the tomato / pepper soup. Liver pate is never a pretty food. However, when served as a big "blob" on a plate, it is not appealing to the eye. It was smooth and tasty and our friend enjoyed her soup. We all ordered steaks and chips and my husband chose the venison. Steaks were cooked to our liking, every plate had a different amount of chips. I got the least amount and although they were tasty I would have liked to have more. My husband reports that his venison was "bland", the mashed potatoes had an orange taste to them which is unusual. He did not enjoy his meal. During the meal, we were not asked once if we wanted any drinks, we asked to see the wine menu before our main arrived. Our intention was to order a nice bottle of red to go with the meats. The waitress gave us the wine menu but never came back to take any drink's order. That is very poor service. My husband chose the sticky toffee pudding and I had a taste. It was dry and overcooked. Overall, not the best experience. We were considering booking New Year's Eve. I actually doubt we will ever return unless the service improves.

Six of us have just been to the Stower Grange for a special evening as we all live in Drayton the service was poor compared to past experience and the food was not to the standard you would expect for the price. I could go on and on but would just say that if you are looking for a place for a special occasion then look elsewhere

We were expecting great things having read some of the reviews, but sadly were disappointed. The food was very ordinary and in that sense overpriced. I had plaice with large pieces of chorizo which simply overpowered the fish, a few potatoes and green beans meant a very poor plate of food. Others in our party had steak which was tough and very disappointing considering the £20 cost, and sadly the puddings were just as bad - the Bakewell Tart was soggy and the cheesecake also had a soggy bottom. To cap it all the ladies toilets had no 'loo' paper to cap a sad evening.

I've eaten here several times and always enjoyed the food and the excellent service. Last night my wife and I celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary and decided to treat ourselves with a meal here - a lovely welcome and great hospitality. The beef was excellent as was the chicken. Excellent wine and not overpriced. Fantastic deserts followed by coffee in the lounge and chocolates. Simply excellent. The staff are wonderful and make you feel welcome, comfortable and feeling good. Highly recommended.

I attended Stower Grange as party of 20 for a birthday dinner, there was also a wedding reception at the hotel also. Quite how the chefs and serving staff managed to co-ordinate these two major events with such aplomb I do not know. Welcome drinks in a private room followed by a wonderful dining room resulted in a truly marvellous dining experience. Food quality excellent, presentation superb and served with military precision. Highly recommended indeed.

My wife and I found ourselves last friday evening, in one of those lovely situations, where all the kids were at various sleepovers, and we could spend a pleasant evening with just the two us, so a quick ring round of our usual favourite restaurants, but alas they were all full.....Uuuuuummm, what do we do now? A quick search on the Internet of local restaurants, and we happened upon stower grange. Now we have been here before for a couple of weddings but neither of us had any idea that really did food, so time was getting on and we booked for a table that evening. We arrived and were met by the waiter who sat us in the lounge area for a drink before dinner. There were only a group of four and a couple already eating, so it was pretty quiet. The decor immediately struck me as tired and dated, and more than a little "Thread bear in places" with the theme carried on nicely through the whole place into the toliets.... Now that's the negative out of the way, because after this we were treated to the most sublime cuisine I have tasted in a long long time, it was a sensation and the staff were so attentive and friendly in a really warm and welcoming manner. We were never rushed, and the courses arrived hot and within perfect indigestion time of the last. The menu was not vast, but there were enough options to suit all tastes, and I really liked how they itemised the ingredients, where they were sourced, and the distance from supplier, which really highlighted the fact that they were keen to keep things local and fresh. At the risk of going on I cannot praise this place enough, and decor aside I felt this place warranted the five I have given it. Top marks to a superb place and fantastic staff. We will definitely be back, and to think it was on our doorstep all this time, and like there ingredients... The shorter the distance, the more time you have to enjoy where your going.

6 of us spent a delightful Mother's Day here. Very attentive staff and set menu had a good choice for everyone. Although full it didn't feel like it as all tables had plenty of space. After 3 courses everyone's plates were empty and everyone was raving about their food. A nice touch was the way they gave a plant arrangement to each table to take away. For the food we had a very reasonable price and I will definitely go back and will recommend to all my friends.

My first visit to Stower Grange was a work Christmas lunch and it was amazing. Wow what a surprise, such attention to detail, the soup starter was extremely tasty accompanied by delish bread rolls, both of which were homemade. The vegetables served with the main were cooked to perfection, not easy when serving 150 plus all at once. I especially enjoyed the cranberry and port sauce, everything we had was made on site. Everything about the meal, even down to the homemade chocolates with coffee, showed an attention to fine detail and quality, both of which are in abundance. Would recommend and def want to go back again.

This restaurant beems "old England" the minute you walk in the door. It even has the "old smell". Seems like an old mansion converted into a restaurant. There is nothing young and refreshing about this place. That said, we were treated very nice, and we were 3 collegues out for a quick evening meal. All had different starters and mains. The food was good but no more. You can see they try to make it more modern, but don't quite succeed. Had a good filet and the fries were good as well. But the sauce bearnaise was not good at all. Don't need to come again, with so many other restaurants in the area.

My Partner and I went to Stower Grange last night for a sit down meal. There were 2 large parties in either end of the hotel so we were unsure how the staff would cope. When we were seated in the lounge a member of staff brought us some olives and lightly battered fish. Our orders were taken and after about 10 minutes we were seated. The choice of food was fantastic with lots of local in season food. Another couple wanted something off the menu and they managed to provide exactly what they wanted. The food we had was amazing, the goats cheese in filo pastry melted in my mouth and the steak was cooked to absolute perfection. My partner had duck which she also found divine. Our deserts were to die for, I had the chocolate fondant with Kirsch and my partner the lemon and lime creme brulee. The staff were fantastic, happy and really attentive, we didn't have to wait for any of the courses, even though the other 2 partied were still in full swing. I have absolutely no hesitation in highly recommending Stower Grange, you will never be disappointed.

Fantastic location in a beautiful Georgian house. The restaurant is small and intimate, the staff are polite and attentive. Our meal was superb, obviously freshly prepared to our order and the presentation amongst the best we've seen. All in all an excellent find for a meal, or stay a while - the rooms are excellent too. Many thanks to the staff for making our visit one to remember, especially the chefs!

We only went for lunch and we both decided to have the ribeye steak medium rare with chips. At £27 (now £34) a head we expected a decent steak but were very disapointed, it was tough, the waitress said she would tell the chef. They also add a 10% tip! A gratuity should be given for good service not just added to the bill.
