Absolutely my favourite chippy, there gluten free option is fantastic and is the only chip shop to offer this in newport. The staff are really friendly and the chip portions are huge. Fantastic for lunch and dinner.

Absolutely top-notch fish and chips! The service was brilliant - friendly, fast, and super welcoming. Great value for money, with absolutely massive portions that left everyone full and happy. What really stood out was how halal-friendly they are, using separate fryers for fish, meats, and chips, which gave us real peace of mind. On top of that, they threw in some extras and loads of sauces without us even asking - such a nice touch. Highly recommend trying the tartar sauce, curry sauce, and mushy peas - they were all spot on and really elevated the meal. Can’t recommend this place enough. Just a couple of things to note: it’s cash only, and takeaway only as there’s no/limited seating inside. Still absolutely worth it!

We ordered some cheesy chips, battered sausage and chips sadly the chips are just not edible, never seen such dry hard pieces of potato being sold as chips before, waste of £25

Guys, this was excellent Gluten free fish and chip's. for those who don't know everyone can eat G/F fish and chips. It makes perfect batter and the fish was as good as it gets, good size and fresh. The chips where fantastic, Big Portion but bloody lovely. We travelled from Ventnor and ate at the side of the road going back across the island, could not wait, and it was worth every penny. the ladies have a G/F family so completely understand and have got it spot on. 10/10!!!! Well done. P.s. G/F chicken nuggets are the best.

Got small chips large cod bad idea chips stale and like rubber cod was nice batter soggy under cooked

Had popped to Stotesbury's for some chips during a working shift as we had been really busy and hadn't had time to eat. They were open when we drove past but in the short time it took to park the car over the road they closed. Knocked very quietly on the door not expecting them to open it but they did. Lady there was absolutely lovely and more than happy to sort us some chips. The bag we came out with huge! And she threw in some sauces too. Can't thank her enough. So friendly and the chips were the Best. Stotesbury's has always been one of the best chip shops on the island! Thanks again for saving our hungry bellies :)

Amazing! HUGE portions, fantastic value! Bit of a wait for food, but everything was cooked fresh & well worth the wait. We live in Northamptonshire and come home to visit family, always have a chippy tea from Stotesburys!

Haven't been here for years and had forgotten how good it was. In our opinion the best fish and chips around at the moment. Friendly service, freshly cooked large portions at a sensible price. Plenty of choice of extras if fish is not your thing. Only downside is the limited parking spaces on the road. One little oddity, in this day and age, they only take cash.

Im a tourist and im staying in Newport for a few months and i was looking for a decent chip shop and This is by far the best one ever the food is absolutely brilliant and definitely worth the money very reasonable prices and the staff are ever so lovely and welcoming and I'll definitely be coming here again so if your visiting or new living in Newport definitely buy the food from here you won't be disappointed at all.

Pre-ordered for a group of over 30. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. Excellent service and food - had to wait a few minutes beyond the agreed pick up time, but if you want that many portions of chips it does take a long time to cook them! Really helpful with the needs of our gluten, dairy and egg free person, and everything was correct and clearly labeled, which hasn't always been my experience with large orders at other places. Will definitely be using them again.

It is a tradition of ours to get fish & chips here on our first night when we come to visit family on IoW. They do the BEST chips on the island and there are so many options for sides, even good veggie options! The food is cooked fresh so there is a bit of a wait but it's always piping hot and well worth waiting for. Last time we were given free pickles to snack on while we waited too :) If you visit towards the end of the night, sometimes there are some freebies going that have been cooked and kept warm but won't be sold, definitely worth asking for! All in all great value place and we will be back every time we visit the island :)

Don’t just don’t go anywhere else. Fresh cooked to order with quality ingredients. Great portion sizes and friendly staff. Just have patience whilst it’s cooking and you will end up with a top top top fish and chip meal. I guess that’s why they have been serving for over 125 years !!!!

Wow we visited here on a holiday to the isle after reading the great reviews. Seriously no one is exaggerating, the portions are huge and so yummy. We throughly enjoyed our meal, would highly recommend for anyone looking for a great takeaway 😊

Amazing fish and chips, exceptional quality. Haddock and the homemade tartare sauce are highly recommended. Staff very friendly. Made freshly to order so be prepared for a short wait but absolutely worthwhile.

The service from the staff was brilliant, it was really nice to have interaction with the staff, they made us aware of the wait times, and the food was brilliant, absolutely stuffed now 😅 Have been to Stotesburys many times before, and will definitely continue to go here for a great chippy. It may appear pricey, but I think it definitely reflects in the quality!

This is now my go to chippy! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ They do an amazing selection of gluten free food, which are all super tasty! Yes, you need to order in advance as they use separate grills and your food is made fresh to order, if you want quick, cheap crap, go elsewhere! This is worth the wait! The staff are always super friendly and hard working! I had an issue with my Uber Eats delivery not turning up at all, so they cooked me another order without hesitation, and really looked after me! I have seen previous poor reviews about deliveries being prioritised over walk ins, I believe this is just someone bitter, I have seen them start to prep every order as soon as it arrives, they will then hand orders to the driver when they arrive as they turn up at the correct times! As stated above, order ahead, it isn't difficult. Fab food, fab service, definitely recommend!! Thank you.

This has to be the best fish and chip shop outside of Scarborough! It’s all cooked to perfection and the portion sizes are huge! Excellent value for money everything is just perfect their mushy peas and curry sauce are fabulous the fish is always fresh flakey and delicious and what is more it’s run by really nice people too. So if you want quality fish and chips, Stotesburys is the place to go no pun intended.

This is truly the best fish and chips on the island, We came for a day trip and stopped here before getting the ferry home. The ladies were so lovley and patient with my girls and even did a special order for my little girl which she was over the moon with. It was a little wait but we had a big order so totally understandable, but when here there was people coming and going all the time, which tells me , I'm not the only one that thinks it's great. When we got our food it was lovley and fresh with a beautiful crispy batter. When we revisit the island again this will be a deffo stop off. Thank you again ladies

Absolutely terrible - do not believe the hype. We waited outside the shop for 50 minutes for our order to be prepared. Whilst this was happening it was clear that delivery orders were being prioritised over walk-in orders. The women working in the shop appeared totally overwhelmed. The food when it came was nothing short of vile. The chips were as dry as cardboard, some had scorch marks so had obviously been left on a warmer or something as freshly fried chips do not get brown scorch marks on them. The battered sausage was horrible, thick spongy batter with a poor quality sausage inside. The curry sauce was inedible. Really disgusting, like no other chip shop curry sauce you’ve ever had in your life! Vinegary fruity red brown slop. Yuck. Not worth the wait, not worth the money and not worth the tummy ache this morning. Avoid!!!!

Absolutely amazing food I wouldn’t go anywhere else. The staff is super friendly and always make you feel so welcome. The atmosphere is great. The chips are amazing always crispt and fluffy just the way you would like them. Would highly recommend if you love fish and chips. Bear in mind there is always a wait but you won’t be disappointed it will be worth it. It’s not fast food it’s all cooked from fresh as requested so you need to be prepared to wait. But as I said definitely worth it. X

Really regretted going here as ended up waiting 45 minutes in the shop for a small order. No apology, no "thank you for waiting". I know they are busy but everywhere else seems to manage it. Their system is mind numbingly slow. People were waiting close to an hour just for a portion of chips!

We visited during a trip to see our grandparents and it did not disappoint! All the staff were very friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious. Portions were also generous. We even sampled an onion bhaji that they were thinking of adding to the menu...it was fantastic and I would definitely return to have it again! I would highly recommend.

We visited on a busy Friday so expected a little wait, however nearly an hour for 2 portions of fish and chips is excessive. Whilst the fish itself was great, big white flakes of cod - the batter is very soft and soggy. Chips were okay but no salt or vinegar on them even though we asked. I can only imagine we caught them on an off day as if this was the standard all week the place would be empty.

Firstly, chips were REALLY dry and tasteless. Practically hollow on the inside and way to crispy and me personally I love crispy things but this was something else ( disgusting ). The fish was ok but flavourless and the batter was too soggy. Portion sizes are not accurate I ordered regular chips and got a kilo of chips which were as I mentioned terrible. Moreover there are no seating, we were planning to eat dinner there after a long day but we stood there for 30 mins waiting. It’s cash only which seems odd as it’s 2024. This was definitely the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. I’m not impressed.😔

I absolutely love Stotesbury's - they are my go too. I have Celiacs disease and can very rarely have fish and chips due to the fryers, but at Stotesbury's, they have countless gluten free options and have separate fryers for these items. So I can eat their safely. Its a dream. Plus, they arguably have the best chips around 😍

The chips were really bad and dry and were like hollow on the inside. PORTION SIZES ARE HUGE. People who came in after us got served first. Also there is no seating. But staff were nice.

Food was ok, was let down by the service in the shop. Was told it would be 20/25 minutes, food eventually took 55 minutes. Orders placed after mine were being put in front of ours and when I asked why I was rudely told “I can only fit 4 portions of chips in the fryer at a time” which didn’t explain why

We visited the chip shop after seeing excellent reviews and it did not disappoint. The queue outside and delicious smell was a telling sign that it was a good choice. We hadn’t clocked that it was cash only so we had to adjust our order to the cash that we had. However, this wasn’t a problem as the portions were generous and avoided us over ordering. The staff were helpful and friendly, letting us know there would be a wait, but this was to be expected on a Friday evening. The food was hot and tasty, with the chips being the star of the show! The cod was also yummy, but the chips were so light and crisp! I would definitely come back again when visiting the island.

Me and my family travelled from London to Isle of Wight. We were in Sandstone Beech and wanted some fish and chips but wanted to find a place that fries fish separate to sausage and meat (halal) I called this place who confirmed they do fry separately and I drove down 30 mins. When I was around the corner I placed my order on the phone and was surprised to hear it will take at least 30 mins and it was cash only but none the less I ordered. When I arrived I was waiting more than my collection time and the food itself was a let down and overpriced. £55 for 2 large chips, 2 mushy peas, 3 regular fish and one large fish? And in 2024 cash only? The fish was not all white and my zawj was put off. Let down. Harry Ramsden is miles ahead as is my local chippy

Waited 40 minutes for food. I ordered was four th in the queue. Every one got served even people after us. We only ordered sausage and chips twice. People after us ordered fish. But still got served before us. We will not go back will make the extra journey and go to another best known fish and chip shop in Newport better service and food. You had 4 members of staff on and was still slow . Also why do you not except cards, now adays it seems unusual.

We’ve ordered many times before and every time we’ve never had an issue. Food is very fresh and tasty and there is always plenty to go round . Great value for money and they also have vegan options too .

Even when you pre order your food it is never on time, priority is given to uber eats and deliveroo etc. The curry sauce has gone downhill as it’s too watered down with no bits in.

Went to stotesburys with the missis for dinner tonight as we do often and as normal we had nuggets scampi chips curry sauce garlic mayo tartar sauce and jalapeño bites and as per normal perfectly cooked and delicious every time you won't beat it anywhere else guaranteed there the best I wouldn't go anywhere else the staff are friendly and also very chatty and a good laugh so makes time go quicker wislt waiting for your banging lunch or dinner if you dont try them your missing out 100%

Food came pretty much cold, the chips were hard, they missed items off our order, nothing had labels on so we couldn't tell what it was, and it took them far too long to deliver. Absolute waste of money I won't be using Stotesburys again
