Great food,great prices,great staff.....Best chippie on the island

This is a well oiled machine! Appears to be family run, not sure if that's true. We had 8oz cheese burger and chips and a cod and chips. Fish was fresh, burger was generous in size and juicy and chips where proper chippy chips. Stuffed now!! Would highly recommend.

Drove from Ventnor to Shanklin as local chippies were shut. By god it was worth the journey. Didn't get to eat the food for almost 35 minutes because of the weather and drive back, and the fish was still crispy and lovely white inside. The chips were gorgeous too. Friendly faces and a nice welcome. 5 stars all the way.

Best fish and chips in the area!

It was busy and can see why, not a bad chippy at all reasonable price and friendly staff, food cooked fresh to order, but chips, cod and battered stuff simply lovely, had lovely chats to other customers while happily waiting, only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was they forgot me curry sauce 😂 but been out all day and couldn’t be bothered to walk back. All in all totally recommend thanks guys! See you again sometime soon

Recently visited as saw alot of good reviews. Sadley wont be returning as found it very greecy leaving a horrible greecy feeling in roof of mouth. Cod was very thin & didnt taste fresh. Alot of fish & sausages sitting under heaters when arrived & our were from there. Even though we had to wait along time to get our food, which I dont mind if its cooked alot fresher. Iv had alot nicer in my local garden centre back home

Well we went by the reviews as we wanted to find a nice fish and chips shop..the reviews were good so we gave them a try....well service was friendly and quick and the shop was very clean. We chose cod and chips...this was wrapped and ready for us to take away..when we got home 5 mins later the fish and chips were still hot..but the batter was all soft and stuck to the wrapping hence no longer on the fish...the chips had all stuck together and really were not appetising at all...the fish fresh and had no bones and tasted nice..but as for fish and chips we were very disappointed.

This chip shop was close to where I was staying and thought ideal for a quick evening meal back at the digs. The service was excellent, a real family business that obviously prides itself on customer service. I had a quick chat to the owner about the economy while i was waiting, a really lovely chap. The food was fantastic, and the portion sizes were generous and the fish was lovely. A real gem of a shop and I would advise you to use them whenever you are in the area.

Went off looking for a good chippy whilst we’re on holiday and this was probably the best chippy me and the mrs have ever had brilliant food and excellent customer service if only we had one this good by us in Birmingham!

Well we used this place for the first time since we moved to the island. And we will definitely be returning! Glad we ordered in advance as they were very busy, sign of a good shop. I had a burger and the wife had a saveloy and shared a large portion of chips. Value for money and definitely looking forward to trying the fish. Would definitely recommend this one and now our new local chip shop.

Best fish and chips in the area by far. Almost went to the tourist trap on the esplanade, but decided to walk up the hill to try and avoid the huge queues there, and it worked out a treat. Better price, better batter, fish was lovely and great service all round.

Absolutely top quality place, super clean and impeccable service! Our cods were large, fleshy and tender whilst the chips were golden, crisp and perfectly cooked. All served with care and a smile! We'll be back soon!

Decent fish and chips shop. We had vegetarian hot dogs which were ok, but very dry as there were no sauces or toppings on it at all, just a fried sausage in a hot dog bun. Chips were ok but not the best.

Best chip shop in shanklin, and they do the best chips this side of the island. The proportions are massive, They also open at 4.30pm on Friday and Saturday . I'm living local, and will definitely be back

The batter on our large cod was a little greasy, but not overly so. It was crisp and the cod was delicious. The medium chips were huge and excellent in texture and flavour. I was too busy eating this while on the esplanade to take pictures. Very worthwhile.

On the basis of the reviews we decided to have fish and chips tonight from here and I’m so glad we did. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was outstanding! Can not recommend highly enough.

The best, We turned up on a busy evening and put in a large order feeding seven of us. What a treat, hot firm tasty cod in a lovely crisp batter. The chips are amazing as are the friendly lively crew running the establishment. New food destination on the I.O.W for us and then a brisk walk or quick drive down to eat on the seafront at Shanklin, still piping hot.

Food is Great BUT.. When I got there tonight, there was a lady who I think had some type of metal health, the guys sat her in the warm area of the shop, made her a cup of tea, offered her some chips to help warm her up while being on the phone to get her some help. The lad at front of house was great with her, said some nice things to help reassure her that all will be OK. Top job and really nice and helping staff 👍👌

Probably the best fish n’ chips I’ve ever had. Piping hot, freshly cooked and tasty and the portion of cod was HUGE! The cod was so, so white, fleshy and fresh! The chips were absolutely gorgeous too. We sat and ate them on our laps from the paper down at Shanklin esplanade. Gorgeous!

Ordered veg burgers and chips. Burgers undercooked in middle and chips limp and greasy..Not their usual best but friendly staff and very clean chippy. Car park opposite. Busy but wait is not too long. I rated it 3 as normally it is better.

We only love 10 minutes away so get fish and chips from AJ's regularly! We missed them very much when they were closed recently after a fire. The fish is fresh, the chips delicious and the portions very generous.

Best Chippy on the Island. My family were so pleased to have it open again. The food is blooming delicious and the staff are always lovely. We've never been so excited to go to a chippy as we were when they reopened (it had been 6 months since we had a chippy dinner lol. We wont go to any other chip shop) definitely recommend it.

We are regulars to AJ's, and have never had any cause to complain! All food is freshly cooked, the fish is superbly cooked lovely and flaky and the chips are proper chip shop chips, non of that frozen malarkey!! It's definitely worth the wait if they are busy. I would say this is the best fish and chip shop on the island!!

Called ahead, staff very friendly. Freshly cooked fish and chips. Cod was beautifully golden & chips just right. A very enjoyable meal as always from AJ's. I look forward to our next trip to the island & AJ's.

On our first night at Lower Hyde we decided to get a takeaway. Phoned up in advance and collected at agreed time.Excellent Fish and Chips.Only problem we ordered a large portion of chips to share.Far too many chips and struggled to finish them.

We love this place. Such lovely and friendly staff. Menu has a good selection. We first happened on AJ's after we searched Google for a local fish and chip shop while on holiday three years ago. Came back and they haven't changed which is a good thing. We love you AJ's.

We were directed to this chippy from the( shanklin beach hotel another great place to eat) We were served by very friendly owners/ staff the food all cooked fresh ...the fish was lovely and white and tasted great .....our only dissapointment we were hoping to go on our last night arrived at 8pm and they had closed for the night ...can only guess they sold out our loss snooze you loose

Wherever I visit my cousin in I.O.W ,I always head to my favourite fish&chips A.J's!Their cod is lovely so are the chips,always freshly prepared,really tasty,good quality,wholesome food.The staff are always very helpful and polite,their premises look very clean.I will be back and recommend 100% :)

Ordered 3 medium cod and chips, around 7pm this evening. Had to wait at least 20 minutes for the order and then when we finally did get it and take it home there was only 2 cods when we ordered and were charged for 3. So disappointing considering how simple the order was and how long it took, after waiting so long we had no energy to chase it up. Furthermore the cod still had the skin on making it partly inedible and the batter was thin and lacked crispiness and flavour. Only slight saving grace was that the lady at the front till who was friendly and apologetic. Will not be returning

We have had takeaways from this fish and chip shop for almost 3 years, they are always lovely, we love their Plaice, Cod Chips etc...and tonight the Cod and Chips were one if the best ever, can highly recommend. Lovely staff too.

The food is amazing. I think what makes this place so great, is the service you recieve. They really know how to treat there customers. Polite and very friendly. Such a lovely atmosphere.. the food is always cooked quickly and quality of food is brilliant. Certainly recommend this gem
