Had medium cod & chips Was really nice piece of fish and chips were nice old style chippy chips 👍🏼

Ordered fresh, or do we thought. Oily, as per photos, see oil floating in box. large fish is a kids size. But price reflects that. Chips are definitely last night's rewarmed.

Delicious take away today. Service pleasant and fairly speedy even though it was a busy bank holiday evening - all cooked to order. Good value for portions. Fish not greasy at all. A bit more variety in the fridge for drinks would be great but plenty of choice in the shop next door so not a deal breaker. We’ll be back definitely.

Asked for salt and vinegar, got home, no salt and vinegar - on holiday so didn’t have any…. Wouldn’t fly up north…..

My dad came over for the afternoon and it was already decided that we would all have fish and chips - we had not used Monkton street for years, but now we will never again. Two of us ordered a large chips and I wouldn’t even call it a handful - such a small portion. Ridiculous. The fish was dry and rubbery absolutely terrible. Just awful - the worst that we have ever had. We could have easily put it in the bin. If they come back with something disputing what we say rather than actually apologising or compensation for such a rubbish meal than that just about says it all. I wouldn’t ordinarily give such a poor review but it was absolutely shocking and so expensive for the quality and the quantity so we were all annoyed.

I have been visiting this Fish and Chip shop for years. my favourite small sausages. Just been and had noticed I was overcharged by £1.60 I was charged £8.40, should have been £6.80 Sadly due to this I will not be going back to this Fish and Chip shop. It's always been known for good value, not the case if overcharged. Customers beware check the prices before leaving, that's the mistake I made today.

I wasn't expecting anything special based on the external aspect of the place, but I can honestly say it's one of the best cod and chips I've had in years, better than any restaurant. Lovely fish with the skin removed (a preference of mine) all the batter was crispy and the chips were just right not over or underdone. If the owner would like to move to Ipswich, they would be made very welcome.

I really enjoyed my fish and chips and was very good price too. I'm looking forward to coming back to Ryde

Been here quite a few times now and never had a bad meal. Staff are polite and speedy. Whenever I am on the Isle of Wight I always have my lunch here, the best fish and chip shop on the island which is why they have many awards.

The food looked lovely but they cared more about their closing time than their customer. I had walked flat out for half an hour to get there at 13:55 but was told my only option was what had already been cooked. Very disappointing. I had promised the family fish and there was none cooked so had to waste further time walking into Ryde instead.

Crispy batter, fresh fish, crispy chips and not oily! As a previous review mentioned, I’m used to the paper next to the food to be greasy but to my surprise there was very little oil. Price was good as well, much cheaper than the seafront chippies but still a minute’s walk to the esplanade. We very much enjoyed our meal, thank you.

Just ordered 1x half a pounder burger 1x savaloy 1x jumpo sausage 3x medium chips So we went this evening for the above at chipmunks. Whilst ordering I was asked if I would like salt and vinger? Reply was yes please. After getting down to the seafront setting up the beach gear. We opened our chips to find no salt and vinger. OK not great ill have to go back. As it really is not the same. Personally I tbink the salt and vinger makes the chip shop chips. Anyway arrive back and asked for some salt in a bag as I wasn't wrapping everything up again and taking it back. The lady said we haven't got much left "go and buy some from the shop" . We'll I wasn't prepared to do that so I insisted she put some salt in a bag. She then did this with another member of staff saying don't give too much out. No apology given. I then made my way back to the beach. My wife had already eaten her savaloy. She said it was awful, cold and hard. Either undercooked or over cooked. The chips were under average and in small bags. The burger was OK but flattered and not in a box. Been waiting to try this chip shop for a while because it never seems open. Safe to say I will not be going back. I hope your standards improve.

Just had cod chips and mushy peas from chipmunks and they were excellent. Highly reccomend this chip shop

This chippy is fairly local to me and I have used it on several occasions. The food, whilst not bad can vary from one visit to the next with the quality of the fish sometimes being very good and other times being quite poor

Just been to this chippy on the strength of its reviews and we wasn't disappointed. cod and haddock moist,batter very nice and crisp. chips are gorgeous. Well done CHIPMUNKS.

So you know when you fancy fish & chips, but you get half way through it and find yourself bloated on greasy fish and soggy chips? Well this chippy is as far from that experience as you can get!! Went for trad Fish, chips and mushy peas. 10 mins to get home and as I unwrapped my goodie bag the first thing I noticed was the paper was still dry and practically grease free. The chips were still hot and crispy, the fish was fresh with crispy batter, and not "heavy" in any way. A veritable fried food miracle!! After wolfing it down I could have been fooled into believing I'd eaten a "healthy meal" Great food, good portions and friendly service with a smile. If you could date a fish & chip shop, I'd marry this one. She's most definitely a keeper (double thumbs up)

Was on a day trip with family to Ryde, went to the takeaway by the boating lake they wanted £10.00 for a portion of fish and chips, found Chipmomks on Google , got 2 Cheeseburgers 2 Cod and chips jumbo sausage 4 portions of chips curry sauce enough for 6 adults and 3 children all for £19.40 not only great value the quality was amazing. Got the sake of walking 500 yards from the front well worth the walk, 100% great fish and chips, Thank you.

So glad we stepped off the seafront and found this place, staff nice and friendly. Superb value, £1.50 for a kid's meal wow! Lovely tasty cod and chips also had a lovely texture and flavor.Will definitely return if we go back for a day out. I think was cash only so would be nice to see card payment made available.

We were in iow 12-13 June 2021 decided to visit chipmunks based on reviews, a excellent fish and chips place it looks like it is run by ladies. Very tasty food, great service and it is a takeaway and they are such lovely people. You must visit if you are in Ryde I am sure you will enjoy the food as much as we did. Thanks chipmunks.

A superb chippy. Karen and her team are always friendly, the walls are full of good jokes that you can laugh to while waiting. The quality of the product is superb always and they give generous portions.

We had dinner from Chipmunks last night.Cod and chipsSaveloys Burgers.Never have we had such fresh and tasty food. The burgers were to die for. Wonderful flavours and toppings. Would DEFINITELY would recommend Chipmunks to anyone looking for absolutely delicious food!5 stars without hesitation!!!

Have been going to Chipmunks for years. Now have great new range of homemade griddle burgers, just had minted lamb,salad and homemade Tzatziki, SCRUMPTIOUS. Have also had new halloumi and mushroom burger. Just Cajun chicken to try yum yum.

I'm vegetarian and there was a lot of choice and the food came up lovely.

The food was awful, wouldnt even have feed it to my dog sorry to say. Dirty oil under cooked fish chips were like scraps

Wow! What can I say...came back to Ryde and we had to revisit. Thank you for the fantastic fish and chips. Not a fan of fish myself but my husband said it is the best he has ever tasted. Sausage was great, not greasy at all and the chips are perfect. Fabulous service, great staff and so friendly. If you are in the area make sure you visit Chipmunks!

Haven't been here in over 20 years but was in Ryde and fancied Fish and Chips so went here. Traditional family run fish and chip shop. Good portions and good food. Not that expensive. Only couple parking spaces outside and residential permit parking only elsewhere so leave your car on the sea front. Just a few mins walk from seafront so great to get fish and chips from and eat on the front.

The man behind the counter was loud and sloppy in service and command. Staff and customer alike. He seemed out of his depth. Also demeaning to staff.

Wasnt a fan tbh but location is good so it wont be the last time I get chips from here

The worst take out food I have ever eaten in my life. Decided to drop in, wish I hadn’t bothered. All of the food tasted like it was cooked in very old oil. The customer service was non existent, the girl was only interested in her phone. I cannot stress enough how disgusting the food was. Only had a couple of bites and gave the rest to the Seagulls. Stay away.

We had lots of fish and chips, very good service, they fried the fish while you waited, Plaice & Chips, goody, rock & Chips, very goody, Cod and Chips all good. placed in white paper, and placed in a plastic bag, ready to go, Sat down on the sea front looking out to sun, sea and sand.

Loved the fact that on the entrance was a schedule for when the place is closed due to fishing hours. That was what made me enter the shop actually... I asked them for their specialty, an offered me fish and chips, with vinegar and salt. Was really tasty, without the strong fish-food flavor. Loved the fact that the chips were made out of real potatoes, not the processed stuff, and the fish was fresh. The dish was big, maybe 1 kg? of food. Didn't like though the wrapping of it, and the fact that it was very oily (although, it's a matter of taste, and the vinegar cuts the oily heavy feeling out of it, and it is expected to be oily, because also the fish and chips are cooked in oil!) Worth visiting if u are around, to taste real fish and chips!

The tastiest Fish and Chips in Town.

Straight in and out in two minutes on a Friday evening? This was a first for me - I am used to my fish and chips being cooked while I wait. So to the tasting - definitely not the best I have had, also quite expensive for a 'small' portion. Chipmunks is a take-away only establishment but I felt that I had paid for an eat-in meal. So will be sampling other plaice offerings in future. (Forgive the pun).

After taking the Hovercraft accross to Ryde from Southsea we stumbled across Chipmunks fish and chip shop in Monkton Street. Looks great from the outside so feeling a bit peckish we decided to get some fish and chips. Had to wait for the cod to be cooked fresh but it was well worth it. Great tasting succulent well cooked fish with excellent batter. Classic chip shop chips. Will definatelly search this shop out again when next in Ryde IOW.

Really nice food at a good price

Been here several times cos it's round the corner from my favourite garage (B and R Motors, near what used to be Shaw MOT centre).

Lovely food, but me and my girlfriend both ordered cheesy chips and battered sausage hers being small and mine being jumbo she got less chips due to being in a smaller box? I don’t see this fair as we both paid for 2 large cheesy chips. Other than this was lovely but it’s questioned my return.

This has always been a good fish and chip shop, and you are guaranteed a good meal here (well, we've been coming here for decades, and never had a bad experience yet!). They are often "out" of some size or other of fish, or some fish or other, but if you have a back-up choice you'll not be disappointed. Service can be a bit slow, but that is because food is cooked to order. This is a far, far better fish and chip shop than "The Codfather" opposite Ryde Pier - and has far, far better reviews from TripAdvisor. Well done, TripAdvisor, for getting it right, for "telling it how it is."

Okay chips, kinda packed though

Bought cod and chips for six of us. Three of us would have preferred haddock, but haddock was sold out (it happens, right?). However, we all enjoyed the food we had. Fish was clearly fresh, well battered and tasty. Chips were plentiful and very good. Good value and no complaints.

Im this store on Carnival night and staff are handling the customers quickly. Even when it is packed!

Visited here with my family as we've heard rave reviews. I visited once before and it was quite nice, but this time not so much. Chips were soggy, portions were very small in comparison to other establishments. The cheesy chips came in a smaller box than it has done in the past. The pie we ordered was cold in the center. Nobody really felt like taking it back considering we were all starving. Such a shame.
