Stone Cave Restaurant & Bar in Hackney

Rip off merchants. Avoid like the plague. They gave individual service charges per drink, in a large group, attempted to charge for food that wasn't received, and then tried to add an extra £100 surcharge on top of the other surcharges. I do not know what has happened to this place, but it is no longer worth it. Their greed has destroyed the restaurant.

Have used this restaurant for many years. Always had good food and service. However prices are now far too high and tips should be at the discretion of guests, 12.5% is excessive. To my surprise for a Friday evening there were very few guests, it used to be packed. Disappointing we were not offered a set menu.

Sadly, the prices do not reflect the quality or quantity of food. Pretty dead for a Saturday evening. Cold meze didn't have enough bread, not even for one person. Charged 2 pounds for extra bread - unusual for a Turkish restaurant. The mixed grill was a bit meh....not worth £25. They have really taken advantage of the gentrification in the area and hiked up prices, I remember when this place was worth going to about. The worst is that they charged for service which I feel should be optional - we asked for this to be taken off the bill which they did. Remember you do not need to pay a service charge, don't let people tell you otherwise.

We came to Dalston for a show at the Arcola Theatre and looked for somewhere to eat. Stumbled upon The Stone Cave restaurant. Superb restaurant. Beautiful interior. Best food I have had in a long time. Fantastic cocktails, no scrimping on the alcohol. Lots to eat. We had the mixed meze to share and a mixed kebab. Highly recommend.

Very hard to choose from the dishes on menu. Everything was piping hot and tasty. I love Stone Cave- its amazing value. Food is great service is attentive and friendly. Would recommend 👏

Fabulous venue for authentic Turkish food. We came here for breakfast to celebrate my husbands birthday. Food was fresh, well presented and delicious. Service was excellent and staff very friendly and welcoming. Chose this venue based on the reviews, we weren’t disappointed. Will definitely be back for dinner.

The staff was wonderful w/decent food. Because of the staff & celebrating w/family who were reuniting in London, we would have rated this a great place to go. We paid in cash and confirmed the accuracy w/the waitress. But Unfortunately as we left we were stopped by someone we hadn’t seen before who told us we were “short 5 lbs. + change”. I told him I had put the change & and additional 5lb note with the total bill, and was confirmed by family members as well. He said that was unfortunate but it was now missing & I needed to pay an additional $5lb + change. I had no choice because people were watching & I felt humiliated. I believe he took advantage of me being a tourist from the U.S. Be ware.

Lovely service and unbelievable food! 10/10 recommend! The interior, vibes and music was great. Would recommend to everyone and come here again.

I wanted to treat my friend for her birthday I told the owner it was my friends birthday. Baring that in mind he did not come over to say happy birthday which was surprising after all owning a business is about rapport with customers. The food was tasty but I would say on the pricey side especially as Turkish restaurants are known for big portions/complimentary breads/dips etc don't expect that here. Decor is nice good location , spend around 50 pounds for a simple brunch for two. Looked for the toilet as signage was not obvious. Owner was on the phone I asked him which way to the toilet, icalled out excuse me a number or times he barked "cant you see I'm on the phone? There's a sign there !" Felt quite offended. At the end the waitress took my bill (she had very good customer service) I said that it was a shame the owner knew it was my friends birthday and didn't do anything extra eg put a candle In our dessert(we ordered two desserts.) He heard me and piped up "Well did you bring a cake?" Won't be returning due to owners attitude unfortunately. Such a shame as potentially a lovely place to visit.

A fabulous place. It’s been ‘done up’ a bit since the pic, but retains its great atmosphere, wonderful food, and friendly, helpful staff. Highly recommend.

I have been there with my friends last weekend. Despite the place was really busy, the staff was nice and friendly, the food was worthy. there were birthdays and the staff was attentive with nice song and making the atmosphere enjoyable. I will definetely go back.

Why has this place got good reviews. Food reflects kitchen staff that don’t care about what they’re serving to people who are giving up their evening & no small sum of money. This food is tasteless, boring and uninspired - wanted to try a new spot but should have just gone to Mangal 1. Got a watery chicken and tomato slop topped with unincorporated mounds of oregano and pepper, this was listed as a ‘Turkish classic’. The actual classic, chicken shish, had 0 flavour. Should’ve know this whole meal was going to be crap when we got served rice that resembled the rubbish they feed to you in kindergarten - little frozen bits of carrot and sweetcorn. Minging. I don’t even write reviews but this meal actually annoyed me. What is the point of going to the effort of a restaurant if you don’t care about the food you are serving. The goats cheese starter was the only nice thing.

Great food and exemplary service. Three of us walked in without a reservation and were seated promptly and without fuss. Had mixed starters which were delicious. We’d tried to order for three but were told that two would be enough, which it was. Decent Malbec wine and great mains (I had a melt in the mouth lamb shank - superb. ) Had some puddings which we rarely do - brilliant meal.

Absolutely disgusting for what we paid for..£23.50 And got told .. we don’t need your custom … If you really think this was gonna feed 2-3 people.. well it’s sort of a diet plan … … we had a number to send photos too but no reply.. ..

Delightful place. Brought my mum as a late Christmas present. Staff very friendly with a great sense of humour. Mum is a vegan, and they were very helpful in identifying suitable things on the menu for her, and as a non vegan i was in paradise! Food tastes fresh and rich with flavour. Can recommend the sharing platter as gives you a great base to start and the vegetarian kebab was outstanding. Our waiter Tolgay was friendly and fun, and made us feel very welcome. Good selection of wines and really nice atmosphere. Will definitely be back. Thank you guys

Excellent evening meal for three. Waiters excellent service first class. I would recommend this restaurant. Starting with a welcome smile door opens as your service begins. Split level layout - street level then half a dozen or so steps to the rear seating area. Past the bar server. The toilets are a further flight down. One note toilets are down two flights of stairs so no disabled facility. Level access off street to street level layout. Food is sublime. Starters:Turkish sausage, Mediterranean prawns and Mucver fritters. Simply delicious. Mains:Mixed kebab - Selection of lamb, chicken and Adana kebab served with rice and saladIskender lamb shish - Chargrilled lamb shish, garlic with yogurt and butter sauce served wirh rice or salad A more traditional Turkish dish of Et Sote - small Cubed lamb stir fried in spicy tomato sauce with garlic, herbs, sliced onion,red & green peppers, fresh tomatoes. Sublime and very moorish!Dessert:Homemade Baklava with cinnamon ice cream, Ottoman kadayif - shredded pastry with pistachio and syrup, with cinnamon ice cream,Chocolate brownie with vanilla Ice cream and raspberry sauce. Just yummy delicious. A must for a superb Turkish meal.

This has become a favourite of ours when visiting family in the area. Two of us dropped in for an early supper. We shared the mixed meze and each ordered another hot starter. I had two glasses of the agreeable house red. We shared a dessert, with coffee and just about managed to finish it all. Great value for money. And as always, very friendly and attentive service.

Popped in for a quick lunch. We had 2 main, 1 lentil soup and tap water. The bill was £40. I was honestly shocked.

It's not the first time actually for us in this restaurant because my daughter love it and always bring us over here when we are visiting her. I have to say the staff is very friendly and always make us feel more like a guests than a customers.

This place is OK, the service and team was nice. What let this place down was the food portions in comparison to what they were charging for meals. The salad portion was tiny. It was not the best experience to be honest.

I found the staff friendly, they remembered my name, after an absence of 2 months. I rembered some of theirs, they all seem to be called Ali. The Turkish food is excellent, and if you want they do a full English breafast. The glassof House wine was pretty good for £4.50. Plus if you drink enough (over several vists) you can work up to a free glass or eventually a free bottle. Nearly there now. Happy tobe in their on my own.

Have eaten here three times in past couple months. Can highly recommend the excellent food and service with a great ambience. This time we were joined by four of my family. Came across this restaurant since we were in the area and there is a bit too much choice. A bit unsure at first from the outside but step in and you'll find a Turkish cave theme. Brilliantly decorated, we sat near the doors of the restaurant which they opened up and then had seating outside. We had the meze for two and a special mixed grill - both were superb and we finished it all. Service a bit moody though. I show pictures and forgot to take a pic of the food when it arrived but you can see we finished the meze!

We got the set menu for 4 which came with a bottle of wine. You get plenty of food for the price and it was all really fresh and tasty. The restaurant has a really nice atmosphere and the staff were all lovely. Would definitely recommend going here!

We visited the Stone Cave for my daughters birthday evening meal. The food was fabulous, great portion sizes and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and efficient. If we lived nearer it would certainly be a place we would visit regularly.

My daughter, one-year-old baby grandson and I stopped in to Stone Cave for a quick supper midweek. The staff could not have been more friendly, welcoming and helpful, on a busy night with the restaurant crowded. We decided to go for the mixed mezze, more than enough for two. Followed by delicious baklava with cinnamon ice-cream. Our red wine by the glass was lusciously tasty. Excellent value and friendly service. A perennial favourite venue. If you're in east London, don't miss it.

Went for Turkish wine with it, also very drinkable and good value. Service was attentive and friendly too. Really good find, especially with so much competition in the area.

Just admiring the demise of Tesco's Kingsland High Street (Dalston). Felt like a break from heavy shopping load. Went in very friendly, nice traditional, Turkish I believe. Free wi-fi and quality menu. Only had a coffee, but will certainly come for a meal sometime soon.

This is a great place for a pre theatre dinner - alone or with friends. Eight of us needing feeding within a 1.25 hr time slot. And they succeeded. Happy diners.

La comida era excelente y era una manera excelente de probar cosas nuevas. Nos sorprendió lo bueno que era también la ofrenda de postres - el baklava hecho en casa con helado de canela era encantador.

Tasty Turkish food at the Stone Cave restaurant in Dalston. Quirky decor but authentic cuisine at this long established venue. Good for carnivores, pescatarians, and veggies. Commendation also due for beautifully clean loos.

The service at Stone cave was outstanding, food delicious (especially the king prawn starter) and we loved the decor of the venue. Portions are generous and well priced, the menu extensive offering something for every taste. Great vegetarian options too, will return!

I was looking a restaurant in Dalston, I found this gem. We shared starter meze for 2 it was very fresh and tasty. For main course Special mixed kebab and Hunkar begendi (sultans delight) was really delicious, meat was very tender. For dessert we tried spiced apple crumble and homemade cheesecake both of them was outstanding. Must try If you are in Dalston

We have been coming here regularly for a few years now and it never disappoints. Outstanding food, fantastic service and very friendly staff. If you haven’t been, get down there! :)

I just called to book a table at this restaurant for next Thursday and one of my guests that I was hosting is blind and has a guide dog... I advised the person on the phone that I needed a table of four and that we would have a guide dog with us and was advised "we don't allow dogs in the restaurant".... I repeated... "but it's a guide dog for a partially blind person"... his response... "yes but we don't accept any dogs even if guide dogs"...

We had a late lunch there last Sunday. We are vegetarians and there was a good selection. The manager was helpful in explaining the menu. We had 3 different main courses which were all tasty. So nice to get away from pizzas and pasta.

I am really glad that I have found this gem of a place in London. The food is amazing, stuff are extremely kind and it is reasonably priced as well. I booked a table at this place and we arrived 20 minutes late, their kitchen was almost closed but they gave us a table and they served an excellent food.

It had a few lads when I got there. The lady in the bar was very friendly and guided me to my seat. The food was lovely and piping hot. The service was fast and the venue is clean and of course the wash room was looked after. The piece was average. I would recommend solo or groups.

The staff are really nice, friendly and helpful. They are really welcoming to families with young children too. However the portions are really small for the cost and my meal came warm at best. I have been here many times before and found portions used to be more generous and most definitely hot.

I’ve given this restaurant five stars for every department. Well deserved . Firstly, the staff are charming and fully attentive.they just adored and interacted with my baby great niece and all purely natural. A real joy.

The food was delicious, great service, very interesting styling of the restaurant to give it an authentic feel. Was playing the world cup on a large tv screen in a more casual dining area in addition to the main dining area. Would definitely dine here again.

We booked to come here based on TA reports and were delighted. The dinner was at the end of a family day so included our 2 year old granddaughter two kids and husbands/partners as well as us older wrinklies. The service was friendly especially for our 2 year old. The whole group loved the food including one vegetarian. We created our own meze and I think we cleared evey plate. Had a super baklava etc - would defiitely return

Este tiene un ambiente encantador con luces y un estanque y te hacen sentir como si estuvieras realmente dentro de una cueva acogedora. Está abierta a la calle, así que puede disfrutar de buen tiempo. Nos pareció que el personal era atento y la comida de tres platos por una muy buena relación calidad-precio, además de estar caliente y sabrosa. Seguido por un buen café, este es sin duda un restaurante que volvería si estábamos en esa zona de nuevo. Está cerca del teatro,Arcola si alguien está de visita para un show.

Detenido en aquí para la cena y explorar la zona alrededor de nuestro hotel y no podíamos haber estado más contentos! El lugar es acogedor y precioso y la comida era deliciosa! También se puede comer afuera en el abierto si te gusta. Los camareros eran todos amables y serviciales y la cerveza fría! Lo recomiendo encarecidamente.

Después de haber caminado por la High Street y el centro comercial, mantener los ojos abiertos para un lugar para disfrutar de un almuerzo tranquilo, nos instalamos en la piedra de la cueva. Fue una buena elección tuvimos una comida sencilla de moussaka y vino turco rojo, con servicio amable y agradable ambiente.

Visited this place just a few days ago and had a late brunch. The service and food was delicious and the price very affordable in comparison to some other places. Would totally recommend and i will be returning!

Great service waiters very helpful regarding dishes on menu, food is very traditional of Turkey, gorgeous dips and main so tasty.

Me encontré con este encantador restaurante en una tarde de sol sábado cargados de bolsas de compras. Fue uno de los 3 restaurantes turco en una fila y por lejos la más concurrida, que tomamos como una buena señal y nos alegramos de haber sido probada a la derecha. Nos dieron una cálida bienvenida de la camarera y se sentó al lado de las puertas que estaban abiertas con asientos al aire libre. Ambiente agradable, ya había un montón de gente, no de música demasiado alta y el Mundial mostrando en la pantalla gigante en la parte trasera del restaurante. Pedimos el meze mixta para 2 que era increíble relación calidad-precio, a tan sólo 12 libras. 95! Hay 9 tipos diferentes de pan caliente y además meze cada tema era perfecto - sabroso y no demasiado salado. Tuvimos un par de bien mezclados y té turco. demasiado desorbitante Nos quedamos tan impresionados con la calidad de la comida que nos decidimos por el postre. Recomiendo encarecidamente el baklava con helado de canela. Sin duda volveremos aquí!

Happened to find this restaurant after a visit to another bar - lovely food ,staff just fabulous ,great service ,price reasonable. We sat outside on a sunny evening the place was nearly full loved it will definitely go back.Loved the hummus & Turkish bread & our chicken & bread in yoghurt sauce just lovely

I visited Stone Cave last night with a group of friends, we sat and ordered some drinks. The staff is very friendly and professional... we asked for draft beers and we were said that the beer is bottled but the label says draft so they consider it IS a beer from the tap (a bit confusing don't you think? but obviously the price is like a draft pint...any way we ordered some food and the waiter suggested to get some calamari as starter on the top of the set menu. The cold mezes was very nice (apart from the microwaved falafels) and portions were ok, however the extra plates were shocking in quality and quantity. then the main mix grill arrived and to be honest, after visiting and eating at many Turkish restaurants I was pretty gutted, 2 pieces of Chicken shish, to pieces of lamb, 1 chicken wing and a little bit of rice and salad?? I thought it was a joke at first, but we had to face reality and pay a very high bill.... I left the place very hungry and I will never visit again... Plus the atmosphere (which is super advertised on the website) is no where to be found......SHOCKING DON'T GO!!!!

Mi hermana y yo fuimos a este lugar porque nos atraía por el olor del café turco dos caballeros estaban fuera bebiendo. Fuimos en el café (Té turco de manzana que tenía) y después de charlar con el camarero era encantador y persuadido a tener postre, que era delicioso helado frito (que tenía hielo y mi hermana tenía pudin). Estábamos apurados, y acabé teniendo que ir antes de que acabamos disfrutando de lo que había pedido (mi hermana fuera su pudding de pulido en tiempo récord). No tengas miedo, que sin duda volveremos porque este lugar vale la pena. Me encantó la decoración y el ambiente también.
