Sunday lunch was excellent. 3 of us had beef which was melt in the mouth and plenty of it. 1 person had the nut roast which he said was very tasty. We had five different vegetables and it was lovely getting two lots between four of us so plenty of vegetables, often in other restaurants with only one shared vegetable platter it's not always enough as we like a lot of vegetables, we also liked that you are given extra gravy in a gravy boat. We had the chocolate sponge for dessert some with cream, some with custard it was nice and chocolatey. The eaton mess was great too. The price was very reasonable, and the restaurant is nice and clean and bright. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We were served by a friendly young waitress who really looked after us.

Stokesay Inn is definitely shabby - and not in a good way. Repainting and recarpeting urgently needed; mattress was very saggy. Staff friendly and helpful when asked but the room wasn't serviced daily (not even dirty cups removed). Breakfast was poor - limited selection of pre-packaged cereals and marmelade, tinned tomatoes (in July!), bacon cooked in very old burned fat.

A group of 9 stayed for B&B for a week in June. The hotel / inn is under new management with new staff etc.All staff were extremely friendly and helpful and made our week’s stay very enjoyable. It is an ideal location for walking the Shropshire Way. Breakfast and evening meals were excellent and packed lunches were available. Nice selection of drinks in bar. Would certainly return.

We tried to have lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. We went inside and there were a couple of people drinking in the bar and one couple eating. We were told that they couldn’t serve us lunch as they were expecting a large party (of 17) in an hour! They were rude and unhelpful and I wouldn’t bother eating here (we went down the road to the lovely Craven Arms Inn). Turning customers away when they have an empty pub!? Not the best business plan. At least put a sign up on the door and be polite when turning people away. Very poor service.

Called in today for sunday lunch what a gem, to be honest never thought of going there for food even though we live in Craven Arms, We will definitely be going back, the food was excellent just like momma used to make and plenty of it all piping hot. We decided to have apple crumble for dessert and boy was it good the best i have tasted in a very long time. I recommend anyone in the area to try out the food, support your local you wont regret it.

We wanted to book a room for a Saturday/Sunday stopover, unfortunately my fat finger booked the wrong dates, I called the B&B literally a few minutes afterwards to ask if they could either change the dates or cancel the booking, simply put they referred me to Booking.Com saying that I would have to deal through them as I made the booking with them in the first place. On the Booking.Com site there is an option to waive the cancellation fee which incidentally is 100% of the booking fee! This I did and then called the Craven Arms to tell them that they could re-let the room and alert them to the waiver request. Basically they said no to a waiver or even a part of it. In my opinion they were totally unwilling to even try to assist and quite short and blunt on the phone, they still had 48hrs to re-let the room which given that there was a large event nearby, would have been easy. Needless to say that I am totally disenchanted and certainly won't be recommending this establishment to anyone.. Good job I didn't book it for a week, that would have hurt!

Visited this hostelry for lunch with a walking group. There was no bonhomie, in fact rather the opposite - abrupt and bordering on rude. My meal of Beef and Ale pie with mashed potatoes and peas came without gravy - when this was requested I was informed that I did not order any (this being a first to me). I was lead to believe that this would be sorted and some duly follow - I finished my meal without further sight of any such sauce. The meal was rather disappointing, the price being average for such establishments. Table service was good considering the numbers and varieties involved (19 walkers). I

We stayed here over the weekend as we had our friend’s wedding happening down the road. The service we received by the owner was very unwelcoming, rude, abrupt. They were not helpful at all. We had to leave half way through the wedding to check in as they would not let us check in sooner. I did call to see if there was any chance and there was no offer of an early check in when I explained the situation about being at a wedding. We thought that it was just us but another gentleman said exactly the same on departure. I would not recommend to stay there at all. You defiantly do not get a service with a smile.

Today was very wet and miserable, we went to the Discovery Centre but preferred not to eat there. We spotted Stokesay Inn very close by - in fact just yards away! So we trundled the children over to try out lunch. We were met with a very warm welcome and the children felt as much at ease as the parents and grandparents. The lunch menu was nice and varied offering starters, main and deserts plus specials on the board. The managers are new to this pub/hotel about 4 months in place but were working very hard to make it warm and welcoming. We shall certainly visit again and hope that others who choose to go to Discovery Centre discover this little gem.

This is quite a large pub with a car park conveniently situated nest to the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre. We went at lunchtime and all 4 of us were extremely happy with the quality of the food served. I had the best cooked and most beautiful tasting rib eye steak that I have had for years. Another had the wild caught cod in batter which was also pronounced delicious along with the other 2 meals. Service was quick and the landlord friendly. The real ale was superbly kept and enjoyed by all. We didn't sample the delicious sounding desserts but finished with an excellent cup of coffee.

We booked in advance to eat here on Saturday evening as we were staying in a bed and breakfast nearby. The restaurant was not very busy and it was rather lacking in atmosphere, although I enjoyed the 60s music playing in the background. The menu offered plenty of choice at reasonable prices and the service was very friendly. We decided not to have a starter. For mains I chose the vegetarian tart - Shropshire blue cheese with mushrooms and broccoli which was served with a good variety of well cooked vegetables. My partner chose smothered chicken served with chips and coleslaw. Both mains were really good - tasty and well presented and good value at under £10 each. The dessert choice was quite limited with traditional puddings. I had a lovely peach sundae and my partner had the sticky toffee pudding. We enjoyed these very much. The portions were generous and we left feeling very satisfied.

Went for lunch. On entry we were told there would be a twenty minute wait for food as it is all freshly cooked. That's OK - we ordered, noticing other people also waiting for food. After twenty five minutes one of the waitresses came and said the steak pie I had ordered was not available. Why wait 25 minutes to tell me that? Another couple close by were commenting that later customers were being served before them. Their main courses arrived, but they had ordered soup to start. When challenged the waitress simply stated, "You didn't order soup from me"! Rubbish. When our food came the fish and chips were OK, but the fish portion small and still with black skin attached. The chicken breast was also small, although the garlic sauce was very tasty. The waitress who took our money said we should have been told immediately about the pie option not being available, as it had not been available the previous day either. Only go here if you've time to waste.

Stokesay Inn is the best choice to sit down for a hot meal if you are visiting Stokesay Castle nearby or another one of the local attractions. The environment is newly refurbished and clean, quiet but still cosy. There is an inglenook fireplace you can sit right next to. Service is great as well. I had steak and chocolate brownie, both of which were good. They agreed to swap the chips for boiled potatoes, which was nice of them. The steak was really good as well. Not much choice in wine but sufficient for the needs of the menu. All in all, I enjoyed the food and atmosphere at the Stokesay Inn and would go there again. The seat by the fireplace was way to cosy though and I had to run for my train back to London in the end. Ha! So beware!

The taxi driver who took us here told us that it wasn't to late to go elsewhere to eat sadly as I booked the table I felt obliged. I should have taken his advice. Upon entering the Stokesay it looked dated and empty not a good sign. we grabbed some drinks from the bar and then we seated ourselfs only to be told that the table was reserved but no sign was on the table like the others that had been reserved so we moved tables to one by the window. The light outside of the window must have been faulty as it was flickering like a strobe light. We was given menus by the polish waitress. When she returned to take our order we both ordered the breaded Brie wedges the waitress then told us that it was Camembert so we said we would have that instead then off she went to the kitchen. She came back and said that it was Brie not the Camembert like we had said when we pointed out that we said Brie she the started to argue with us about who said what. We then stopped her and said we will have the Brie. When the deep fried breaded Brie wedges came out we were suprised by the large size of the starter but it was really tasty. For our mains I ordered the beef and pale ale pie with the dumpling crust and my girlfriend ordered the pulled pork. When the dishes came out they looked pityful and tasted just as bad as they looked. The dumpling crust was dry and tasteless as was the rest of the pie. I not sure about triple cooked chips but the Veg tasted like it had been triple cooked. The pulled pork was really really sweet and not enjoyable. The staff need to be better trained and need to know whats being served from the kitchen and not keep running backwards and forwards to find out whats what. Would we eat here again NO.

Very unhygienic - there must be a way to stop them coming into the tearooms. Never encountered it anywhere else. Health and safety would have a field day!
