The food was tasty and the drinks were generous. The service was attentive without being intrusive.

It was perfect, really perfect. Gillray's Steakhouse exceeded all expectations. The ambiance was inviting, the service impeccable, and the food truly outstanding. Every detail contributed to an unforgettable dining experience. Thank you for such an amazing time.

our server was inattentive and inept. she was uninformed with the menu and did not follow up with options when available. she did not clear our plates after the starters, or replace our cutlery, leaving the servers who brought our mains to clear the table and replace our cutlery. she did not follow up with beverage service until we were able to catch her attention to order a glass of wine. once poured, that glass of wine remained at the bar until we had finished our course as she had disappeared from the dining area.

Two of us ordered the fillet, medium cooked: both fillets were overcooked and therefore quite tough. The meat dishes are served on a plain white plate, without any side dish, vegetables, potatoes, not even a leaf of lettuce just to make the dish more garnished.... Considering that it's a steakhouse and the cost of the fillet is £ 42,00.....they should really do better! Also, we had to wait very long, almost one hour to get our food. Waiters and staff were very kind and helpful: the problem is definitely the kitchen! Too expensive for what you get. The location is great and the atmosphere agreeable.

There was a lovely view of the river. The staff was courteous, and the food was good. However, the kitchen was slow in making the food, a number of items were unavailable, and overall, it was pricey, given these issues.

Pre theatre menu exceeded expectations Drinks priced in line with five star hotel pricing which puts up the overall spend. However the service was excellent. Location difficult to beat for views of Westminster.

A relatively good experience with a couple of minor issues. We were not seated at the time of our 8pm booking and had to wait in the bar area for the table to be ready. There was a delay in taking our order and it took too long for the starters to arrive. The main course arrived when the starter plates hadn’t been cleared which was disappointing! I also reported a broken lock to a toilet cubicle only for the cleaning attendant to blatantly ignore me. This was latee escalated to reception who acted upon the concern and the door was fixed within the hour. Overall it the night was a good experience but could be even better if there were not the small issues we experienced.

Fabulous setting and ambiance, very pleasant and helpful staff, let down by too slow service

We chose the pre theatre menu - great value - but sadly both courses were lukewarm. Really spoilt the whole menu experience. We did alert staff that the food was merely warm. The initial reaction was ‘ it should not be really, really hot’ !! He said he would feed it back but I don’t believe he did as we raised it again and a more senior member of staff came to the table . He was apologetic and gave us a complimentary glass of wine each . Food service very slow for pre theatre. For a hotel of this standing this really should not happen. 2 glasses of complimentary wine was a meagre gesture really but we were in a hurry to get the theatre.

Arrived for pre-theatre lunch a bit early but were shown straight to a table. To be fair the restaurant was far from full. We were planning on having the pre-theatre set menu but this was not available. Apparently it has to be booked when making the reservation and is not offered for the matinee even though the play is in the same building!! This is not made clear on the website of the restaurant or Open Table. So we went a la carte and the food, though very pricey, was excellent. Fish and chips and the Yorkshire pudding with steak were delicious. We were celebrating my mum’s birthday and the staff brought out balloons and a cake for her. A lovely touch. Overall the staff were fantastic and earned an extra star for the review. So in summary it is a nice place with views over the river with great food but the price point is a bit steep.

Very friendly staff and the food was amazing but it took longer than anticipated to come given that we ordered steaks. Had some difficulty figuring out the entrance using maps but all in all I would gladly book again, the service right from the main door even before we entered was very welcoming!

Bar and cocktails were very good Restaurant let down by its kitchen - several items not available, steaks were served at wrong temperature and when sent back we were told after 10 minutes that it would be up to 25 minutes more before replacement ( a medium rare steak?) Service in restaurant was generally slow too

Only part of the order was served initially then when the bill was brought and we refused to tip the waitress looked put out. This added to the fillet steak was really fatty and the Coke we ordered was flat. All in all it was not a very nice dining experience for quite an expensive meal!!!

Decent if slightly overpriced wine list. Good menu with broad options - my steak was superb and cooked perfectly. Staff friendly - could be more attentive - we had to pour our own wine and it took a while to grab staff attention to get the bill etc. would recommend and will return.

Great setting but was pricy - £420 for 4 people for Lunch. Food good but not that good

Been multiple times before albeit a long time ago and was always amazing, but sadly the passage of time has not been kind. Food was good but we all agreed it didn’t live up to expectations or the premium prices charged. I distinctly remember the giant cheese filled Yorkshire puddings offered as an appetiser being a highlight of the experience, so was understandably disappointed with the small cheese free replacements. That point may sound insignificant, but I think it somewhat underscores the fall from grace I felt across the meal. Service was excellent, very attentive and well paced throughout the meal, not easy with larger tables, can highly commend them there.

Pre theatre dinner - lovely food, nice relaxed pace and staff were great. Table was overlooking the river. Only criticism ( and it is picky) the windows were really dirty. Otherwise I’d highly recommend

We started with the pea and asparagus soup, which was very good. For a main course I ordered filet and my husband and I ordered two sides dishes to share. We requested no added salt. The steaks and side dishes had EXTRA salt and were almost inedible. I sent back my filet and the sides and it then took a half hour to get the food. The dishes did not have too muc salt but the filet was tough. The potatoes were very good.

The staff were very helpful and attentive. The setting is very nice, next to the Thames. The food was reasonable although the steaks should have been a little warmer. The variety of vegetable side dishes was limited. However, the food was well cooked, tasty and well presented. It was my husbandºs birthday and the staff gave him a cake which was lovely of them. The wine was good. the prices are as you would expect for central london

Sharthank was an amazing guide through the menu and experience! The service was superb and the food matched the vibes. The view was stunning with Big Ben directly before us. So glad we were able to enjoy a fine experience!

I received my meal after my family had already completed eating, my husband had to wait a very long time for a second drink, and the overall service just wasn’t great… The ambience view, however, was spectacular

Amazing venue and ambience. Food is excellent - feels like a hidden gem in this location. I want to love it but sadly service isn’t good. Waited ages to place drinks order and didn’t see the same staff member twice. The staff aren’t knowledgable about the food. “what kind of steak is this on the set menu?” generated blank looks and the response „steak“. We had two children with us - no kids menu offered. Very sharp practice. Strangely the service was so inattentive that we could not order second bottle of wine. It was a test run for us of a larger party booking for 40 but we won’t be making that as they could not manage 6 of us on a saturday afternoon at less than 30% capacity. Also saw bar staff eating behind the bar then serving drinks without washing hands. Needs radically better management and wait staff.

Outstanding meal, great service. Love the location and view. Staff not only in the restaurant but also the hotel was so helpful. Was a great place prior to the show making sure we had the time but not feeling rushed.

Expensive but the food quality didn’t match it. You pay for the lovely service and small glimpses of the river from across the hall. Amazing staff but I wouldn’t go back as the food was definitely not worth it. We had 8 different items on the menu and the rosemary and salt chips was the only thing I would write home about. Bar was great and lots of drinks variety and recommendations were spot on.

For a Marriott hotel, the quality of service was insufficient. We are used to this chain going in several hotels and also in the W hotels. We were very surprised and disappointed with the quality of service at the restaurant level. But today the breakfast service was impeccable

We had a most enjoyable experience. The best meal was the Ratatouille!!! The steaks were very good and the mushroom topping was tasty. The view of the Thames and Big Ben added much to the atmosphere.

We booked our table at the last minute, so we're surprised that there was availability. We ran into problems on our way to the restaurant and contacted them to advise on our delay. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, they held our table for us, and didn't complain when we did eventually arrive. The food was very good, tasty and hot

Stayed at the Marriott, Gillrays is the in house restaurant. Went downstairs and they said an hour wait 😳 so I used Open table and reserved in 30 min 🤔 sat at the bar during our wait and the restaurant was half empty. Got seated and had a great waiter Sarthak, he was very attentive. The food was amazing! Restaurant was never full. Same people there the whole night. Thank you Open table!

Went for our 27th wedding anniversary. Service and food was outstanding. Had the thickest juiciest t bone I've ever seen.

I’ve been coming here for years - always consistently good cuisine. The Marriott Bonvoy sign up pitch by our server was clumsy and ill-timed and interrupted a business meal conversation. Please cease this practice. Sorry you’ll miss the employee sign up incentive but ugh, you’re better than this.

Food was completely underwhelming. Totally overpriced! The only saving grace were the friendly and helpful staff.

Food was great and so was the atmosphere. Swanky but approachable. Food was great and accommodating toward my husbands gluten allergy. Higher end prices but yummy and an amazing view. Service was good but slow but that seems to be the standard at the higher end steak houses. We had our food about an hour into sitting down. We didn’t order starters only soft drinks. Overall food was flavorful and well presented. Higher end cost but on par for other higher end steak houses we’ve visited in the UK.

Menu choices are limited but steaks are good quality. Service is mixed - some servers are very good, others not so much. Meals take long time to arrive but were nicely presented. They ran out of ingredients for their limited choice of non-alcoholic cocktails so one of these wasn't available. Ordered chicken Caeser salad with no anchovies, got Caeser salad with no anchovies and no chicken :-D. Other meals were fine. Great view

The staff were professional and friendly. The food was very good my wife had the lamb chops they were the best we have ever had and we order them frequently. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

We were terribly disappointed in Gillrays. The steak was worthy of a mass market, inexpensive place and certainly not worth the cost. Our server, who was apparently new to the job, was terrible, unintelligible and not diner oriented. Tremendous disappointment.

An oasis of calm right next to the bustling London Eye. Very attentive service, child-friendly, all our wishes were fulfilled with a smile. There was even a little birthday surprise for our son at the end.

What was good: the wine, the cocktails, the side dishes, one of the steaks. What was not good: service was not up to standard for this type of restaurant. The first round of drinks took about 40 minutes to arrive, two sharing steaks had to be cut by the diners, plates were not cleared quickly. One of the steaks was too chewy.

Overall, this was a nice dinner. The views and setting were nice. The food seemed high priced for the quality.

They didn’t answer the phone when I needed to change my booking and could only call them. Justin at the front desk of the Marriott was very helpful in getting the booking changed, so don’t rely on the advertised number. I also just didn’t see it as value for money despite what is a lovely location

Food quality is just below average. The service quality is very poor

Food was excellent. Ambience was inviting, with the River Thames view. Sadly, service was sub-par and well below expectations. Trainee who served us appears to be a novice student trainee. Wine selected on the menu differed from actual bottle brought to us. This said error was repeated 4 times. Request to split a shared order of appetizers prior to table serving was ignored. There are no wet towels to clean soiled fingers from BBQ sauce from chicken wings dish. If such service levels are perpetuated, restaurant makes for a good family dinner venue but not for hosting a formal business dinner event.

Poor service. Poor quality. Poor everything. Should be ashamed of the name steak house. Honestly. Go do something else. This is not your calling.

When you order a steak medium rare and comes out medium well wonder about their staff. It was even marked medium rare. Finally received my steak when my wife finished her meal. The server made sure I had a steak knife, but had to ask for a fork two times.

Great location; natural daylight with lovely Thames view. All staff were polite; respectful; helpful and responsive. Food was excellent- well prepared; delicious and attractive. Good size portions. Most of us had salmon!! No pressure to leave table !

Gillrays was an excellent spot for a business dinner and drinks. The drinks were well made, and the food was great, too. There are lovely views of the Thames and a great cocktail bar to relax in post-meal.

Had a wonderful breakfast! Everything was delicious! Also for those with mobility issues, they couldn’t have been more accommodating! They carried my scooter up a flight of stairs! Truly wonderful service all around.

The food was lovely the food was very tasty and well presented, I thought it was a little overpriced. The staff were miserable only one of the male staff looked happy. Our view of the Thames was ok but we could hardly see through the window as it was dirty. Lovely old building and grand but the interior decor especially our table was old , it was right at the end of the restaurant all the tables were wooden ours was metal with glass ring marks on it , the floor could do with being refurbished.

The atmosphere is absolutely beautiful with great views. Our server had some challenges with our order such as for still water and trying to describe the serving if the lamb, but these were very minor. The service overall was lovely and such a nice suprise dessert for our daughter's birthday. The dishes were delicious! Great memories made for sure.

Simply not worth it. The quality of the food doesn't match the price. Nothing special at all. Not big portions. I really don't recommend.

Despite arriving at our booked time and numerous tables sitting empty we were asked to wait. 20 minutes later got table. Service was VERY slow. We ordered drinks that never came. Even after ordering them again they never arrived. Bar waitress had no idea what they stocked and said they didn’t have things that a later waitress said they did. Food took over an hour to come and we did NOT order steak or anything complicated. It was not busy there at all. We weretold the food was being plated. It came thirty minutes later. Ridiculous. The food was decent when it finally arrived. We will never return.

Order mixed up. Took a long time. In the end the manager did make it right by deducting the incorrect order from the bill. Maybe just a one time error. Hamburgers were very good.

My 2 guests were served inedible steaks fortunately my South African client was made hungry enough to eat his steak while my colleague couldn’t eat more than 2 mouthfuls. Tough and full of gristle Also no bottle lagers. Just cans! Ridiculous. The Marriott should completely review this restaurant. The service in the bar was poor (rude Eastern European lady) while the restaurant service was very good

Expected more from this place. Booked it to celebrate our anniversary. The atmosphere there was poor would not go there for any special occasion. Food was ok but overpriced for what you got. Would not go back there again.

This restaurant is in the Marriot hotel. It's decor is hotel-ish. Good cocktails (esp. the Jubilee). Tomahawk steak was a good choice for 2 people with a couple of sides and a salad. Food was prepared well and tasty. No complaints, just expect a hotel atmosphere rather than a cozy steakhouse vibe.

The best bread with butter I tried in my life (every little detail counts? Then the meet was just fantastic, the flavor was amazing. This could easily be my favorite restaurant in the world so far (And I have travel a lot). The staff very nice with an international background, making the ambient very interestingly inclusive, and super nice. Kudos Gillray’s team !

We were staying at the hotel for 3 nights. This review is purely for the dinner we had at Gillray’s and does not reflect on the outstanding service and food we received during our 3 day stay. There was a very rude person on the front desk. Our server was showing us to our table and the front desk person was trying to stop her saying the table was reserved. Yes it was reserved for us! I did not like the way she looked at us and spoke to our server. She did not smile she was quite off putting. I wanted the lobster. I was told no lobster. I ordered a fillet steak. People who ordered after us got lobster. Our steaks were poorly cooked. I asked for medium rare. My very small steak was cooked medium in places, medium rare in places. It had no taste. The side order of chips were dry and unappetising. Quite pleased I didn’t get lobster as I can’t imagine it would have been done well. The service was very slow indeed. By contrast our breakfast servers and food were brilliant in the same restaurant. The evening servers and chef need to take lessons from the morning chef and servers!

Beautiful restaurant with view over the Thames. We had the pre theatre menu and it was good value for money. My only comment would be that the steak was warm but the chips were the best. The brownie dessert was delicious.

From arriving at the restaurant, I was warmly welcomed. The greeters, the staff and server was excellent. I found the chicken wings so delicious, squid yummy and the fish and chips very tasty. I loved looking at the view of the river from my table. It was a wonderful experience before seeing the play. I hope to return soon.

Steak was delicious, sides were disappointing. Non alcoholic drink selection was abysmal. Service was awful. We were never sure who our waiter was, it took forever to get the check and no one checked on us once we received our food.

The setting is wonderful overlooking the river. It is a fabulous old building with a great charm. The food was good and we were given a complimentary chocolate dessert to celebrate our anniversary. Highly recommend if you are looking for a bit of elegance.

Great food and lovely staff, really helpful and nothing was too much trouble

The food was undercook, we sent it back and we got the same steaks back, they simply grilled it again. This lead to dry and poor steaks, they tried to make up for it by giving us 1 free soda. But the food was not something I would come for again. Nice view though.

Good food and very good service. Right near the Aquarium, Wax Museum and Shrek experience. If you’re a Gin drinker it’s a must try.

Terrible! Made to wait 20 mins for table - Steaks came out cold and had to return steak Instead of fresh they heated it up and meat was tough and chewy No apology and no offer of some thing else Terrible

How can you serve such poor food at that price ? Steak barely chewable, 'potted' shrimps completely tasteless - BLAND. Chips dry.
