I’ve been going to Stiffkey stores for 10 years. My only question is, why have so many people got sticks up their arses ? The amount of moaning in these reviews has nothing to do with the personalities of the staff at Stiffkey Stores and everything to do with the fruitless lives of the greater British public. My favourite things about Stiffkey Stores are the staff for one, the treacle flapjack and of course the coffee. These people work hard, they work hard to maintain a business in a rural area, and more importantly, in an industry that is saturated and fragile. It’s an attractive destination for a lot of people. That’s a hard thing to achieve. What do you actually want them to do other than serve you? Fix your car? Do your washing? It’s a store, a very good one I might add.

I visited Stiffkey Stores to buy a cake and to post something. Despite there being 4 customers in the store, there was no one serving behind the counter. After calling out, I saw that someone was in the back hanging out the washing, who could see we were there but had to be called to come out. She then told me that my QR code wasn't valid for posting my package, shrugged her shoulders, computer says No. When I asked her what my alternatives were, she told me I could send it first class or 24 hour tracked. When I asked what the difference was in these services, she shrugged her shoulders again and said they were only a sub post office and she wasn't professionally trained, so she had not idea. (BTW, Wells Post Office a few miles away is also a sub post office, but wholly professional). While I was still at the counter deciding what to do, I was astonished when she walked away and went back to the washing machine to carry on hanging out the washing! Needless to say, I left without trying to get her attention again to buy a cake. Not quite sure what the urgent washing was all about, but please please train your staff, from a professional standpoint they should not be serving at the Post Office counter, and from a supposedly local friendly venue, this is a surefire way to ensure people do not visit. There are many better options nearby.

Staying in Norfolk for a week. Went here on a recommendation and it was great! Best coffee and home made cakes of the week. Dog friendly outside but they have lovely huts you can sit in with your dog if it rains. Different from the norm so give it a try.

Weird guy that works there. He seems like he has been made to work as work experience. His mardy little face pops up every time I have been there…someone please give him a job he enjoys. A strange atmosphere in the store, maybe because of mardy guy but the woman today was so much more interested in talking to the lady who admitted herself that she must stop talking when I asked for a coffee. She did want to add her coffee purchase on her business account. Yeah…nice merch but weird vibe!

Always lovely no mater the time of year. Staff are friendly and the coffee is great. The store has all the basic supplies you need, a lovely gift shop, plants and beautiful homeware. There is also a post office. The cook at home pizzas are amazing. We often stay in Siffkey and always make a point of visiting. The grand children love playing in the mud kitchen.

We are regular visitors to North Norfolk and have driven past this place many times, unaware that there was a little gem hidden here. Parking on site is limited but it is well worth finding a spot off the coast road and walking too as the coffee and sweet treats are worth it. Lovely outside seating area and if weather is a bit iffy some covered spaces. Will definitely be coming back.

We were on a walk to Stiffkey and asked a gentleman walking his dog for directions. “Are you heading for Stiffkey Stores?” he asked. We weren’t – in fact, we’d never even heard of it. “Best coffee in North Norfolk!” he said, and then he recommended the cakes. So we headed there and found a charming little place, where you sit in cute little beach huts. The coffee was as good as our guide had said, and the cakes were out of this world. The service was brilliant – friendly and helpful. The shop on the site has everything you could want – and lots of lovely things you’d never have thought of.We’ll definitely be back, and if the gentleman with the dog is there, we’ll buy him a coffee and a cake to thank him for pointing us in the direction of this wonderful place!

I have always had a great experience at Stiffkey stores. They stock lots of lovely products and are obviously trying to be environmentally friendly which is fantastic. This is a beautiful shop in a cute village. The books and kids' nick knacks were beautifully selected and there is an obvious desire to be environmentally sustainable, The food products and wine were more conventional; generally what you would find in a local SPAR, would have been nice to see more locally sourced products. Nice bread selection. We stayed nearby and visited on several occasions and I didn't find the staff particularly friendly, they kind of grunted at you about hand sanitiser as you entered the store and didn't show any particular energy or interest in being there, which was odd as it is quite a personable store, generally developed with a lot of thought and care. You kind of wanted to the staff to reflect this; to be more cheerful, personable and generally helpful.

We came off the coast path into the village today looking for coffee and facilities. There was lovely coffee and cake, fruit, veg, and other goodies, and good Covid measures in place, but unfortunately no toilets. It's almost inhumane to sell refreshments and not provide toilet facilities, in my view. Legs crossed to the next village...

Having read mixed reviews I decided to go along with an open mind & hope for a good experience. Due to the current situation , quite rightly there is a limit on how many people are allowed in at the same time & there is a one way system in place. After a browse at the home goods in the small barn I ordered drinks. Yes, they do call out your name when the order is ready but not in a rude manner . The order was ready within a few minutes & my cappuccino was lovely . The only downside is parking . The road itself was busy which at one stage came to a stand still as a lorry could not get through. We were very lucky to get one of the two parking spaces available , if we had not we would have had to continue with our journey as I could not see anywhere else to park. If you are staying locally you could definitely walk there !

Sadly the pastries aren't even made by them - they're bought in. Go to Larners in Holt and get some frozen ones cheap. The staff are incredibly rude and the sense of entitlement is off the scale! The coffee is weak and overpriced, along with pretty much everything else that doesn't have a fixed price i.e. Newspapers. From what I can gather they've made locals feel very unwelcome and prefer the holiday home crowd from London. If you're from this set you'll fit right in! LOLEssentials are overpriced but well presented. Sadly the good doesn't outweigh the bad. You're better off going down to Wiveton which is owned by an outrageous toff, but is a pleasant experience and value for money. We've been in a number of times over the years and frankly the customer service is getting worse (if that's possible!). Never forget your humble beginnings (Andy - owner) - if you tread on people on the way up, they'll stamp on you on the way down! Plus the customer is always right - without them you are nothing!Nice outdoor seating and the barn is full of decent nicnacs. BTW, the Red Lion sells coffee and the staff are really lovely and helpful.

Been visiting this place for over 13 years as a family, and have never had a bad experience. They serve the best coffee and we now rate all coffees according to Stiffkey Stores standards!...no other coffees compare. This is a family/dog friendly place that serves fabulous coffee and cakes. Outdoor seating means dogs are always welcome....unsure what other reviews are referring to? It truly is our family favourite in North Norfolk and the queues outside during a pandemic tell me that we’re not the only ones to think it’s a great place, serving great coffee and cakes! It truly is busier than ever. Chatted to another couple yesterday and it’s their favourite for good coffee too!Well done Stiffkey Stores! From Rachel and family

Apart from burnt bread and badly made coffee which are all forgivable this place has everything else good products amazing location and in a beautiful building. The customer service was awful I have never felt so uncomfortable. I made an effort, to give them a chance to be civil by asking if the knew of a local bicycle shop and was told to Google it although the main guy did actually try and help so give him his due. Patter is an art lost on this pair amounting to perfect spoof of "I've moved from my big time marketing job in London to open up a shop in country side".Staff quite happy to make disparaging remarks about other customers in front of you. They seemed to really want to shout out the coffee orders however no one could hear clearly due to the most basic sort of house music playing (zero points for culture), but then came outside and still requested customers recognise their order despite there being only 3 orders. On reflection I'd go again to see the pantomime in action. Hilarious.

Over several years of North Norfolk w/end trips, we have often called into Stiffkey Stores to browse and purchase. Upon this most recent visit, we had a little dog with us. NO signage to indicate they are not welcome inside but despite the place being empty, they very promptly shooed us out. As we were experiencing storm Dennis, we didn’t fancy sitting outside, so no coffee and cake purchases were made. One of us did however, pop back inside to order daily newspapers over the four days we were there. We had done this previously - paying in advance - collecting when convenient and at the same time, always buying other wares. Win, win you’d have thought. But no, we were advised they ‘don’t offer that service any longer’. Are they mad??! So, within the space of a couple of minutes, they lost several pounds worth of custom and needless to say, we won’t return.

After a lovely walk from Morston we stumbled across this place & could think of nothing nicer than a cup of coffee & a piece of cake. We have a little dog so the first thing I did was to ask if they accepted dogs. The assistant said they didn’t but we were welcome to sit in one of their outside huts. As we were desperate we decided to take her up on the offer although there no one else inside & it was very cold. I went in first to choose what I wanted while my husband stood outside with the dog by the door. She seemed quite unwelcoming and gave us the most filthy look. Within 5 minutes she called us from the door to say that our coffee & cake was ready for us to collect. It must have taken her more effort to walk round from the back of the counter to the door & back than just to bring the tray out to us - only another five steps or so. We got the impression that she thought she was above serving us. If it was busier we could almost understand but we were the only ones in there!Such a shame as it could have been a nicer experience.

Yes, the quaint location is cute enough and it’s all very pretty. The throw away cups seem irresponsible, but what really makes this an absolute stinker is the incredibly rude man who works there. As so many other commenters have said. I committed the cardinal sin of photographing a book (to send a friend to ask if she would like me to get it for her while I was there!) and he had a go at me in front of other customers for taking the photo. Was going to buy two other books as well, but I left. Atmosphere decidedly odd, it’s as if you’ve just walked in after a family argument. A most bizarre experience. So bad that I’ve joined Trip Advisor to warm others off! Save your money and go somewhere friendly where your custom is appreciated.

Walked from Holkham to visit Stiffkey Stores, having seen some gorgeous Insta posts. But wow, so unfriendly! Was raining quite heavily and made the mistake of stepping just inside the door with my incredibly well-behaved, rain-coated and unmuddy dog. Cue looks of distaste and one young, male server beginning to say dog could absolutely not come any further! I don’t assume anywhere is dog friendly, but I was on my own and hadn’t spotted anywhere outside for the dog to be tethered to - and really - was it such a crime to literally put our heads around the door? To order a coffee and a piece of cake? How difficult would it have been. For someone to smile and say “Oh gosh, we’re really sorry, we don’t allow dogs inside, but what would you like? We’ll pop it outside to you?” Sat outside in a glorified hut and felt very unwelcome! Ate a piece of cake, downed a coffee very quickly and left - even more quickly!

Coffee arrives in paper cups which one has to collect from the counter. Do the owners not like washing up or do they have a commitment to recycling. Should the latter be the case I think this should be made clear as most coffee cups are not recyclable. If not it seems a rather lazy way to serve coffee with little concern for the environment.

You order inside where the really friendly owner makes the drinks and you can order cakes etc. We had a flapjack and blondie, hot choc and latte. £9. Cakes were fresh and possibly homemade. Choc was best ever. You get it served on a tray and disposable cups and cutlery. Yes, parking is tricky but this is a historic little Norfolk village on a narrow coastal road - so no surprise there. The coffee is the best on the North Norfolk Coast and all the better for the accompanying delicious flapjack or brownie. Not sure why folk complain about paper cups - they are sturdy ones and presumably are recycled. The store is full of unusual books and gifts for children, greeting cards and great magazines not usually available & a P.O counter..! A rare thing these days..!! As for the owner being rude - never found that to be the case at all. Why do folk have a problem not being waited on...!! It's a stones throw to the seats outside.....use your legs. It’s shocking to read other reviews and see that we are not alone in our experience at Stiffkey Stores. Having been recommended by a friend, it couldn’t have fallen shorter of that recommendation. An unwelcoming man behind the counter, who we presume was the owner, abruptly stopped us as we innocently intended to photograph the cover of a book to send to a friend to confirm that it was the correct title. When prompted, he explained that selling the books was how he made his living. Having been forbidden to take a photo, we thought that there would be no harm in writing down the title, but even this was too much for him. For someone who touts his strict rules of commerce as the key to making his living, he certainly hasn’t learned about the power of good customer service. As his brusque and unpleasant demeanour continued, we promptly left without the potential purchase of coffee, cakes, plants, baskets, and other items from his shop. Which of course detracted from the living he said he wants to make. Given that we didn’t try the coffee and the cakes, we can only attest to the nasty taste left in our mouths by this horrid encounter.

On a narrow road in Stiffkey, with traffic created by lines of cars having to wait for oncoming traffic to pass, is this curious little cafe, tiny food shop and home wares shop where pretty much everything is in beige or muted colours. The buildings create a long narrow courtyard in which sit a few tables and 2 adorable painted tool sheds where a few people can sit and eat cakes and drink coffee. It’s all very pretty, well-staged and magazine-photogenic. They make a very good cup of coffee and pain au chocolate. We enjoyed our stop here very much, sitting in the sun at a picnic table. Beware there are only 2 parking spaces directly next to Stiffkey Stores; the rest are a little walk away. (However, directly opposite is a bus stop for the Coasthopper.) The coffee was nice just a shame it is served in paper cups. There is a courtyard to sit in whilst drinking your coffee. Worth a visit if passing by.

What a lovely place to find tucked away in a pretty village. Great coffee and flapjacks, a wonderful general store attached with lots of beautiful homeware products and a very pretty courtyard garden, nicely shaded and planted. One of the highlights of our Norfolk trip.

I am not usually a fan of coffee in paper cups, but this is a post office and store, with drinks and eats as a sideline. But the paper cups were posh, and beautifully presented on a tray, and the coffee was good. I loved the two beach huts in the courtyard which would give shelter or shade if required. Fortunately, it was sunshine all the way on our visit. A good stop on the coastal path. Strangely, for such a small place, you had to collect your coffee when your order was called out. All seating is outside, apart from the beach huts.

Called in here on the off chance they might have croissants for breakfast. They did, but at £1 each for what turned out to be very poor croissants which were left, it is not somewhere I would recommend.

We stopped in Stiffkey as it appeared to be a really quaint little village. The store has a good range of locally-grown products, honeys, baked goods, and drinks. It's a good place to pick up snacks while driving along the coast road.

I dropped by this place a few weeks ago when I was in need of a cool drink on a hot day. I have now called in several times since as I cycle past. This place serves some of the best peanut blondies I have tasted and the coffee is excellent. The other cakes are also good. The people serving are always polite and friendly and this has become my number one place in Norfolk due to the quality of food and coffee. If you are looking for delicate food on nice china then this isn’t that but if you are looking for an informal place to have great coffee, excellent cake, a sheltered courtyard and nice people serving you from the counter then I would recommend this place very highly indeed. The shop also sells interesting range of food and things for the garden etc. I love it!

I visit stiffkey stores every year when I’m on holiday in Norfolk and it’s a lovely shop that I would recommend to others. It has a great outdoor seating area and the staff are really friendly. Thanks.

Such a busy little place in Stiffkey that is ideal for topping up energy levels on a long walk. Good coffee (even though served in takeout cups) and marvellous cakes. Lovely atmosphere in the courtyard with novel seating huts and rustic benches. A small shop sells a range of rustic home wares and the local post office located here too. Parking is an issue so a visit on foot or by bus (bus stop immediately outside) is highly recommended. Really well worth a visit.

Really lovely young couple who have a great ethos. Paper cups and wooden utensils, no plastic. The coffee and croissants are the best. Haven't tried the cake yet, next time! Super courtyard and store. Would thoroughly recommend a visit.

Wanted a light lunch after doing a stretch of the coast path and before catching Coasthopper back to starting point. Got sandwiches/savouries from their grocery section then added fantastic coffee and cake from the cafe. Lovely setting.

You'll need to be a bit creative with your parking if travelling by car, as they only have two spaces, but this is a little gem of a shop in the north Norfolk village of Stiffkey. They have a small well stocked general store at the back, with the village sub-post office squeezed in. At the front of shop are an assortment of gifts and books (all a little bit "right on", but I guess that reflects the interest of the owner, so no harm in that). And they served great coffee which you can enjoy in the very well appointed outside courtyard seating area. A gem.

Good cake & Coffee and a perfect location if your walking the coastal path, my easy walk is to park in Morston or Wells walk to Stiffkey, take any of the 3 paths into the village and after you've visited the shop, get on the 'hopper bus' back, the bus stop being by the shop, perfect ! And the village itself very nice, the author Henry Williamson who wrote Tarka the Otter farmed in the village prior to the second world war.

A lovely courtyard to spend a while sitting in the sunshine eating and drinking. Fab coffee and wonderful chocolate brownies (nearly as good as mine)! Almost excellent. Why only 4/5 - only two parking spaces / a nightmare exiting the parking area / paper cups. Sorry but paper cups are not my thing.

Visited here with my husband on a Friday. Such a cute little shop! It's got a section at the bottom with groceries and dry goods (perfect for if you were on holiday!) a post office and then a little coffee shop. They sell some lovely children's books. Good to see books still as so much is getting computerised and children are given tablets to use instead! There is one large table inside to share, or other tables outside. There was a steady flow of people whilst we were in there. Good selection of drinks, coffee is some of the best I've had! My hubby had a hot chocolate which was also good. There is a selection of cakes/ pastries to choose from too. All reasonably priced. We resisted this time but the chocolate brownie looked sooo good!

Stiffkey Stores is a bit of a gem stone find. Its a delightfully quaint little village store selling all sorts of wonderful local things as well as being an incredibly good coffee shop.We sat at the large shared table drinking our coffee's and eating the most incredible carrot cake....its really that good!! whilst also browsing the goods on sale within the store. There are some quirky little books and pieces of art along with bits for the garden and home.I suppose the only thing that lets this place down is the lack of car parking but this wouldn't deter me from visiting here again. This really is a delightful little place and one that comes highly recommended by me, i shall definitely visit again very soon as i simply need more of this carrot cake in my life!

Stiffkey Stores...even the name...the branding...the set up and what they offer is basically exactly what we want. Everytime we visit Norfolk we pay this place more than one visit, my Dad can't survive without coffee and this is his refuge. The cakes and coffee are spot on but every now and again I can't resist buying a book for my nieces and nephew as they have an old school selection, usually beautifully illustrated, it's a pleasure buying one from here rather than just robotically ordering it on line. Hurray for Stiffkey Stores and keep doing what you're doing. I even ordered the same trees they have outside for my garden, in blossom all winter so thanks for that!

I had lunch with my elderly parents today. My father enjoyed his sausage but my fish pie filling wasn’t nice and some of the fish didn’t taste fresh, the mash topping was nice but the filling was a poor attempt at what can be a lovely tasty dish. My mum had the beer battered fish and chips. The beer batter was overpowering to the fish and tasted like the oil was old. I tried some of my mums and agreed with her. It’s two years since I have eaten here and it was a disappointment.

If you want to eat awful and not healthy than best you camp in. Food is cold, staff are rude and faces like they don't wanna be there. Short woman was very rude and you could hear them shouting out the back. Some man who appeared to be friends with them messing around outside. This isn't what i like to see when eating out. HUGE let down girls. They need to be more polite and have a better manner and not shout so much!!!

Stayed overnight, dinner was good, breakfast was atrocious! Over cooked bacon, sausages, hash browns and eggs, whether, poached or fried were hard and burnt. The toast was beyond crispy, frightened to eat the crusts in case we broke our teeth. The room was nice, Myrtle, needs a long mirror on the blank wall near the plug points. Staff friendly and accommodating at dinner.
