The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the staff very helpful and friendly. The food is all cooked by a chef and was of superb quality. We were so impressed we immediately booked to go again near Christmas! We shared a plate of scallops with a panko breadcrumb crust which had a little chilli and pancetta in. We had a fish stew as a main, along with a Lamb Tagine on a couscous base with beautiful flavours. They also have a good selection of desserts. Thoroughly recommended.

Came here for a nice evening out with my boyfriend and my father to catch up, and it was absolutely incredible. The new refurbishment has done this place justice! With a sleek design and friendly staff, we had felt welcomed. The menu had a great variety of dishes, particularly for my vegetarian boyfriend, as well as a list of specials that piqued our interest. I could not recommend this place enough. The dishes were absolutely delicious and filling. A highlight of Beer!!! I will be coming here again.

Absolutely Perfect 60th Birthday Celebration! We recently celebrated a 60th birthday at Steamers restaurant in Beer, and I cannot recommend it enough! It is under new management and from the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that every detail of the celebration was taken care of. Their genuine care made the experience truly special. The food was simply incredible— perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, fresh local produce, just brilliant. Our friends are still raving about how delicious everything was. If you're looking for a venue that offers not only amazing food but also impeccable service, Steamers is the place. It made our celebration unforgettable, and we can't wait to return. Thank you for making the occasion so memorable! We held

Perhaps the main chef was off on a Sunday night, but ours was a forgettable experience. We ordered 2 starters & 2 mains. In the end, we did not want to stay one moment longer, but were made to wait another 20 minutes for the card machine. Starters: The homemade bread was alright (country style), but the balsamic vinegar stayed stubbornly at the bottom of the olive oil, despite rigorous stirring with a fork. The Courgette fritters were competently fried, if lacking in interest. Mains: The steak & ale pie tasted alright, though the steak was a tad dry, and there wasn't enough of the stuffing compared to the pie shell. The fish & chip with curry sauce should've been an old standby that offered an interesting twist with the curry. But the fish didn't taste that fresh - in a village that has fishing boats lining the waterfront. The curry sauce was about the lamest "curry" I've ever encountered: washed down, sweetened up, and managed to be totally bland. The only standouts were the very good mashed potatoes and the smashed peas with mint. The music blared non-stop. We did not enjoy any aspect of this whole experience. The bill came to nearly the same as our last night's dinner at a different restaurant in Beer, which was outstanding.

We had a wonderful family meal here in August. Service was great. They need to tweak a few dishes that could be better. Paella for two very strong saffron flavor and could do with more base seafood stock flavor and rice was overcooked. Seafood linguine was underwhelming a few bits of shellfish and not a good sauce. Pea risotto needs some sort of lift again it's the stock bases which seem under par. Has potential to be fabulous food

They are just getting going so there were a few blips. The starter mains are good the desserts were below par. Waiting staff need a bit more training "I'll let the kitchen know" is not solving a problem. It sounds like i am giving them a hard time but I recommend going, the issues are just start up one's and they will probably already have ironed them out.

Wanted to try this restaurant as the menu online looked lovely. We were not disappointed: Upon arrival, even though slightly early for the start of lunch we were offered a seat and drink just to wait for 12:00. The menu had a good choice without being too large. Plenty of fish choices as well. Service was friendly and polite. Food was freshly cooked and well presented. It was, very tasty. The calamari that I had to start was served with a very nice fresh salad etc and my wife Bruschetta was very good as well. The mains burger and pea risotto went down very well and the pudding of peaches was good and fresh tasting. The restaurant was clean and well presented with a good ambience.

I cannot find a fault with this restaurant! From walking off the main high street you are greeted with a lovely path adorned with festoon lighting. The modern and contemporary aesthetic hints at what’s on the inside. The Steamers team have produced a wonderful look and feel internally and we were struck by the lighting that invites you through the space. The modern refurbishment works beautifully with the original Devon stone walls. By adding some bold colours with the quality and comfortable furniture adds to the ‘welcoming feeling’ of the space. To ensure the stone walls and floors don’t create a loud echoing space they have used acoustically designed lighting and panelling throughout which really helps the atmosphere. The food! Well we had great expectations given how impressive the restaurant is.. We were not disappointed. The food was exceptional, everything we had was beautifully prepared & presented. My personal favourite was the sea bass which was without a doubt the best I’ve had.. And I love sea bass! The menus are considered and focused on local produce, which we believe added to our overall dinning experience. It’s lovely to sit comfortably, with an extensive wine selection, first class service, and beautiful food. Our overall dining experience was nothing short of spectacular! I’m sure this place will be a destination restaurant that brings people from far and wide! We will be back to this hidden gem.. well done all involved.

"Yes." (curtly) "Are you open on Mondays at the moment?" "No." (again curtly, then 'click' as the phone hangs up). Absolutely no need for this kind of rudeness - civility costs nothing. I had taken family on holiday for Otter Falls for my birthday and for my treat on the special day they took me to this restaurant....to ensure my shark like ‘I’m having fish tonight’ tastebuds were satisfied! In these COVID-19 days, any form of eating out can be a strange experience, but this was inoculated as I had my loved ones around me!To be clear, this restaurant is not cheap....but when the quality of the cooking and service is that good then it is understandable. Is it value for money? In my view undoubtedly so....and then some!It had a limited menus but between us managed to consume prawns, sea bass, monkfish and every desert on offer. One note to consider, you could not add gratuity to the bill if paying by card so if you wish to tip (and they so deserve it) take some old fashioned cash to ensure it goes where it deserves to go!I shall be back!

I spent quite some time researching places to eat near our holiday cottage at Kilmington to celebrate my birthday. Steamers seemed to be fairly easy to get to and had a nice looking menu. When I called to book (at least a couple of weeks in advance) I was disappointed to be told they were not open on my birthday, so had to settle for the following day. We really enjoyed the food, but the ambience did not seem to be entirely warm and welcoming. I think a lot of places struggle with the restrictions imposed by COVID and this seemed to be one of them. The atmosphere was not improved by the excessively raised voices from the open kitchen which gave the impression of a rather unhappy environment. I can only hope things improve for Steamers once COVID is under control, but on the experience we had we would not want to go back anytime soon.

We visited Steamers whilst on a family holiday for my future father-in-laws 52nd Birthday. After a recommendation from a close friend who had visited Beer before, we settled on Steamers for the Birthday outing. After tonight, it was evident that we chose wisely!Upon entry we were met by the kind, welconing staff who promptly showed us to our table. Drinks were quickly served up as we browsed the entising menu. Once we had narrowed down each of our orders, it wasn't long before our food was sitting comfortably infront of our excited, hungry faces! With every bite, you taste how fresh this seafood is and how much love and attention has gone into each dish. Truly delicious from starter through to dessert. Upon overhearing it was a Birthday gathering, one of the staff tending to us went out of their way to organise a few candles and a little singalong for the Birthday Boy, which prompted a few other diners to join in! Was visiting beer for a night and had heard good things about steamers. Emailed as per instructions on the website to make a reservation. No reply. Called on the day we were arriving and was met with an answer machine message stating that there was availability all week including the Tuesday night we hoped to eat. I left a message asking if they could confirm the booking I'd requested online and call me back. No reply. We turned up at 7:30 as per the time we had requested and were met by "we're fully booked". We were also told email can "sometimes go missing" and that steamers don't have a website which I argued I'd visited the day before! Felt like we were being fobbed off and had nowhere else booked. Really disappointed and the customer service was way below standard. Would not go back no matter how good the food is.

Overall this was ok. Certainly a nice feel to the place even considering the reduced table numbers for covid. And the staff we're very covid aware - masks, cleaning equipment, keeping distant, reduced handling of items etc. The first issue I had was making the booking; I sent and email from the website - got no reply so phoned to be told they often don't get emails. Also I will point out website is way out of date. The menu seems very reduced from normal - so be aware of that. The portions too were a lot smaller than the photos on here and on the website show; I had scallops and bacon/mushroom starter just 3 very small scallops. The fish mains were well cooked if little too much butter/oil in the plate for my liking. Would I go again if in Beer - probably.

I had the Brill. I have never tasted this before but it was a real treat for the mouth, as were the beautifully seared scallops. The food is reasonably priced and the service is excellent. Ate here on a Saturday night in August after reading all the reviews on tripadvisor so was quite surprised how average this was. Admittedly the prawn and crab cocktail starter was very good but my main of lemon sole was ok at best and came with fries. Strange choice in my opinion. My wife had breem which again was ok and a few roast veggies on the side but very few. A lack of atmosphere in the restaurant led to a very average experience. The food is nothing more than most people could do at home and the bill of nearly £140 certainly was overpriced.

So overall a great meal, but a couple of observations, the restaurant was quite empty when we were these so lacked a bit of atmosphere, I would recommend some light background music to help, also the waiter that was really polite, took my plate away before my wife had finished so in my opinion this should not happen until both have finished.

When the waitress put to the chef my polite ask of any vegetarian option, it was abundantly clear the chef was laughing hysterically at my request and therefore me. So rude. To boot, the plaice option my partner had was old fish not the fresh fish you would expect from a sea-based restaurant. They had raved about the fish specials so we were slightly disappointed that there were no specials on offer when we ate there. In fact the menu was very limited. By far the best food we’ve had during our holiday in the Beer area. Took a while to sort out what we were going to eat as the menu only lasts as long as the daily catch! Most of us had substitute fish to what was on the menu but at least it shows the food is fresh & seasonal! Our party had the goats cheese strudel, monkfish/scallop/king prawn curry, grilled brill, deep fried whiting & hake fillet. The food was stunning! Simply presented, fresh & delicious. The fish was so fresh & tasty (the homemade complimentary bread to start was also delicious especially the curry bread). The menu was great as not too big, everything sounded lovely so was difficult to choose. We had apple/berry crumble, chocolate/brandy creme brûlée, lemon drizzle sponge, vegan ice cream with berry compote & Irish coffees for dessert - again all fantastic. Our son is gluten & dairy intolerant & the chef was very helpful & accommodating, he made a special gf batter which was so light & crispy & also gf biscotti to go with dessert. Would love to live closer so we could go again!

Had a wonderful evening here celebrating my husband’s birthday. We had a super table, decorated especially. The food was fantastic and they catered for our young children. The entertainment provided by the Chef’s son was an added bonus, performing magic tricks certainly kept our children amused. We would definitely go back.

We’ve been coming here for years and after leaving the county we returned this week and it’s as good as ever. Fantastic mussels, scallops and delectable mango cheesecake. Good Chardonnay and a very reasonable bill.

Place needs updating and kitchen closed off as hearing staff in the kitchen is not always good. Lady serving was pleasant enough, but unfortunately the food and overpriced menu leaves a lot to be desired! I was expecting this to be a real fresh fish treat, but was so disappointing as what I received was a overcooked small portion of something! Such a pity. Get it together Steamers, as this could be a really nice place to visit when in Beer.

We ate here on a Thursday evening and it was so good we returned the following evening. Great value, excellent food and service. The fish taster plate (starter and mains) was superb as was the prawn and monkfish curry and the lemon sole. Good wine list, informal / friendly ambiance, it seems popular with both locals and visitors. Would recommend booking. They are also open for lunch.

What can I say about Steamers ? So So much. We had a fantastic meal and evening. The food that the Chef created was awesome. We are fortunate to have eaten in some of the top eateries around the world, and have to say the food at Steamers compaired highly with other restaurants that we have had the privilege to eat in. A real hidden secret in Beer. The staff were excellent, very professional as well as warm and welcoming. With a table of 10 of us, all choosing different dishes from the menu its not the easiest table to wait on, but all food was served together and all hot and in a very professional way. A massive thank you too Steamers for ensuring we left with wonderful memories of our evening. See you again soon.

Went to Steamers for wife's birthday expecting fresh fish specials as the video shows owner talking about the fish straight off the Beer boats and selecting catch of the day. Even though the birthday was marked on the seating plan, nobody mentioned it or enquired about her day etc. There were a few stars scattered on the table. Just before we left we complained about the food and service (see below) and how it was a birthday. The only response was "nobody tells me anything" but then still no "happy birthday".

The coffee is excellent , very reasonably priced, served with a biscuit . The service is friendly and efficient. The music -1960s- is right up my street. The toilets are impeccably clean. I call whenever I'm on holiday on the area.

It was wife's birthday, which was recorded on seating plan. Nobody said "happy birthday" let alone any special effort. Pavola looked a mess with a hard base. Tarte Tatin was stuck to the plate. Soup bland, no bread until too late. Mussels okay but discard dish was late coming. Main courses okay but no better than average for a specialist fish restaurant.

Celebrating my wife's birthday. And Steamers was a was the place to be. With locally sourced fish, veg & fruit. And it made full use of its repertoire. Of which we enjoyed. I would recommend Steamers as a place to visit if you are in Beer.

I visited this lovely restaurant , so much choice on the menu, staff most helpful and accommodating. We both had the homemade bread to start, delicious, followed by the main course taster which was simply divine, the taste was out of this world, presentation stunning. Great value for money, definitely a must to visit, I know I will be going back there very soon.

This restaurant could be fantastic, within the village of Beer, but what you have is a restaurant which is very confused. We checked in on a Saturday evening to the sound of the chef hollowing to the waitress that he had ‘lost the plot’ so I was not expecting a great deal. I am not sure what this restaurant is about, plastic flowers with curtains and light fitting from the 90’s, dark teak tables and paper napkins , red and lavender chairs all just a mishmash , it was such a confused restaurant. The food was not great, the portions were very small, my husband had the main taster fish dish, which was the same size as the the starter taster, a tiny piece of cod and tasteless other fish, My brill dish was ok but smothered in a sweet marmalade which totally destroyed the taste of the fish, the veg were covered in grease and oil and the whole experience was disappointing. We did not stop for a sweet or coffee, and the best I can say is that the restaurant needs gutting and redecorating using Beer as a theme. As for the chef he needs to be cooking well away from the guests who can hear all that is going on in the kitchen.

Great little restaurant with lovely staff and devious menu with lots of seafood. Good value too with decent sized portions.

Having not booked we were surprised to not only get a table but also some wonderful food and service. With only one member of staff serving and the restaurant almost full you would have thought that service could be slow but no, not only efficient but pleasant and smiling under obvious pressure. The food was excellent and well presented and well thought out. Had we stayed in Beer longer I would have revisited.

Visitors to Sidmouth. Soup was amazing with gluten free bread. A lovely glass of red wine too. Tom was exceptional, he welcomes everyone with kindness and a smile. A real asset to the business!!!
