Half Moon Inn in East Devon

Came here for lunch with friends on a Friday. Parking wasn’t easy - had to park down the road and walk back. We reserved for 1.30 since they close the kitchen at 2pm. We had a lovely welcome and a nice quiet table. Excellent beer with Timothy Taylors and very good selection of food. We had Liver and Onion, Seabass fillet and Bely of Pork plus a wine or beer each. The quality and quantity was excellent and good value @<£25 each. Fully recommend

Had the regular beef roast, probably the best roast I've had in ages, great cauliflower cheese and the roast was massive we were really late into service at 230 on a Sunday.

I can't compliment the chef enough. I have been to this gem of a pub serving outstanding British pub food a few times with colleagues. And all our food have been nothing less than absolutely amazing. Service is friendly and fairly quick considering they get quite busy. Location is convenient as well. Juat eaten earlier today hence why doing the review. Recommend 💯 percent. Steak sandwich, pork belly, steak, burger all outstanding.

Sea bass, liver, pork belly, choice of potatoes, option of small portions, fresh veg, lovely staff. What’s not to like? Parking can be tricky- come by bus! We will return.

Just off the M5, this friendly pub is well worth a stop off. Home cooked substantial meals (a small plate was plenty for both my husband and I) and friendly service.

Popped in after my daughter and granddaughter finished the race for life .what a little golden nugget food was amazing. Lovely atmosphere will definitely recommend and will be visiting again

Needed a place just off the M5 for a food break so found this place via Google … Wow … super friendly, excellent service and food far better than any pub food we have in Bristol. This will be my go to now when travelling back from Cornwall. Minutes off the M5 … highly recommend.

This is the best pub for food excellent service, excellent food, so tasty and a lovely atmosphere 10/10 have recommended to all my friends also you must try the cheesy garlic bread .

Staying in the area and stopped here for an evening meal, really friendly staff and the food was amazing, they class the portions as small or regular but should read regular or large!! beautifully cooked and presented, extremely full when we left 😋

Stopped here on the way to Cornwall. We ordered three different meals, all were very nice and large portions. Staff (and locals) very friendly. Dog was made welcome too! Will definitely go out our way to stop there again.

Top notch pub grub - absolutely delicious food (pork belly was divine) and generous portions. Served in good time, prices reasonable. Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Please bring back the garlic mushrooms though - they were to die for!!

Sunday evening. Great meal, ample portion, good flavours, well presented, what's not to like. Would definitely visit again.

Ordered two orange fruit shoots and when we looked at the bottom there were lots of brown bits floating around so took it back and swapped for two purple. Looked over these and they were 6 months out of date. Safe to say we left.

Pub itself is great however landlord is far from….. considering it’s a pub they have a three cider limit which seems absolutely crazy to when you are enjoying the sun in the beer garden for a few hours? Such a shame as the bar staff are great. Overall I wouldn’t bother with this pub.

Stopped here for lunch on our way home from Devon on Saturday 11th May The lady serving was lovely, friendly and very attentive. The burger I ordered (beef) was possibly the most love lacking burger I've ever eaten . Tasteless, over cooked and a cheap burger, served on a soggy brioche bun, slimey lettuce, 1 slice of tomato. Waaaay too much melted cheese, no onion, relish. Under cooked frozen chips and a miniscule pot of mediocre coleslaw. Shame as the pub and service was good.

Had a meal with my parents on a Saturday evening. Very cosy and nice, friendly staff. Excellent beer. Can recommend the liver & bacon and fillet steak. Really good value and large portions of food. Enjoyed our meal and would love to come back.

We ate here one evening during a long weekend in Exeter. It was the best meal of the weekend and possibly ever. Great atmosphere and service.

Management was not up to scratch, extremely rude towards my nan. Pushed her down the stairs when she asked for some potatoes. A waiter said it was her own fault as management was showing her who was boss. We was also greeted by a girl in the corner who was looking at us oddly as we was getting meat, once we started walking away she started running towards us and creating an earthquake at the same time. Eventually she tripped over on her own fat and started to eat the carpet. Would come again.

Popped in for a meal . Great food, great service, and dog friendly. Could not have asked for more. Will definitely be back next time we're in this area.

Server was very friendly, I ordered the duck which was so gorgeous. I didn't eat the rest of the day, will be returning. Portions are massive as a heads up, but appreciated you can make some smaller which suited my grandmother. Really homley feel and local ales on tap

Found this Inn whilst searching for a restaurant near IKEA Exeter. It is just the other side of M5, so really convenient. Decor was good, service excellent, food choice good, and pleasing to be offered a choice of a Small or Large portion. The three of us each had something different, and all dishes were well cooked, well presented, and delicious. Cannot praise it enough! Everything was just right for a casual mid-week lunch. Oh yes, and parking was free. If you are going to UKEA, check it out. You will not be disappointed

Went for Sunday lunch, food and service excellent, my daughter and I had the roast pork, which was very good, the small plate was plenty for us.

My mum and I drove from Somerset to meet with family driving up from Devon coast, this was a random halfway stop and it turned out perfectly, food and service first class, and really appreciate being able to choose a smaller portion, which was excellent value, ... will definitely return to meet up again and look forward to trying sunday lunch, best wishes and a happy New Year, excellent pub,

Visited on Christmas eve, lovely people and service, lacked atmosphere in restaurant end.

Sat down for a drink only to be told that we had to move because we weren’t eating. We were told to go to the other bar which was overcrowded and had a weird atmosphere. Left.

We have just had our family Christmas meal here and it was amazing, plus the staff were wonderful and very helpful. I really recommend this lovely pub and we are definitely planning a return visit.

We discovered this little gem online, perfect for lunch and just off the M5. Staff could not have been friendlier, service was excellent and the food perfect. Nightmare for parking but worth the effort.

We popped in to break our drive and received excellent service and food. We just wanted a quick lunch and they kindly found us a table and put our order through before a large booking they had so we wouldn't have to wait. We had a tuna melt and cheese and chutney ciabattas. Large portions, came with chips, salad and coleslaw. All very tasty and just want we wanted for lunch. Would recommend.

Nice atmosphere (though the room felt cold despite there being a fire, had to keep coat on and zipped up for the whole time), friendly service, food arrived quickly, excellent real ales. Fish and chips was large (too much really, with no smaller option) but the fish tasted slightly unpleasant, not actually off just not very nice, though it looked ok. Chips average, garden peas overcooked, mushy peas ok. Tuscan chicken, which I had here a couple of months ago, was ok-ish but not a patch on the Somerset chicken they used to do (with a creamy cider sauce). Lots of good reviews though, so maybe we were unlucky.

Fantastic evening meal out with some neighbours on Thursday 30th November 2023. The venue had a lovely festive appearance, a perfect ambience for our dinner party. The menu was varied with plenty of choice. I chose the soup followed by chicken tikka masala and a dessert of fruit crumble. They were all delicious and I particularly enjoyed the curry! Sadie was brilliant, friendly and very attentive, regularly returning to our table to check that we were okay which made for a very pleasurable dining experience. Been to this pub now on several previous occasions and the food cannot be faulted, an excellent venue. Highly Recommended.

We visited this pub for supper on a Saturday evening. We were lucky and got a table at short notice. The welcome was warm, the service was cheerful and quick. The food was lovely. Fish was cooked just right- in fact, everything was cooked well and served hot. The price was very fair and they happily supplied two spoons for us to share a pudding. Thank you “Team Half Moon Inn”

We didn't stay here—we just had Sunday lunch. The service and food are excellent and given that the serving size is also very generous, you just can't go wrong at their very reasonable prices. I would advise booking in advance if you wish to eat, especially for Sunday lunch.

I have been to The Half Moon with friends for lunch several times. The last 2 visits for evening meals were with family inc one from the USA. All impressed with choice and quality of meals. The waitress is very knowledgeable and helpful. Comfortable setting. There is a car park at the rear and have always managed to park. It would be great if the online sample menu could be updated. Will be back with friends later in month

Beautiful food, service and plenty of parking too. Good options of medium or larger plates on many dishes… 2 guests had liver and bacon (they always have this when we go there) was amazing, 1 curry of the day, very tasty with rice and popadoms. One sea bass, again lovely! We were the last ones in there and still didn’t feel rushed to leave. Can’t recommend enough! Is always a top choice here for us!

A benefit is smaller portions are available with the main courses. Doggy friendly. Log burner in the cosy public bar. Probably lost some of its pubby charm following refurbishment. Went therefore a meal on a Thursday evening, service was excellent and the menu options were varied and good value for money. Staff made a fuss of our dog (Jasper) and could not have been more dog friendly.

We met friends at a local farm shop for lunch on a Saturday. They were unable to accommodate so we rang around looking for somewhere close by. The Half Moon had a table. When we arrived about 1pm the place was quiet. Within half an hour we were pleased that we arrived when we did! The menu was varied. Two of us chose liver and bacon which was really good. It's not an easy dish to get right for pub grub. Nothing was too expensive. The venue is close to Exeter IKEA and the Chiefs rugby ground so an ideal location. Definitely one that we will meet our friends at again.

From Start to Finish,the staff atmosphere and Food were excellent. Waitress was knowledgeable and attentive. The Food was cooked to perfection and Hot. Could not fault them. We are staying in Dawlish and back down next April,we will definitely be visiting again.

The hotel was a wonderful find and so conveient for us ascwere were attending a show over 2 days at the West Point Arena in Exeter. The accomation was excellent ; the furnishing, fixtures on suite were done to a very high standard. The beds were very very comfortable along with wonderful duvets and pillows. The owners welcomed us and were so friendly; nothing was too much trouble. We did not experience the bar or their food due to a schedule to attending the shows however their hospitality was wonderful and the attention to detail in the room and generally is excelllent.

Fabulous pub, our food was fantastic and service was excellent. Visited early evening, table of 6 including 2 children, menu has most items available as small or regular portions with plenty of choice. Really lovely highly recommend!

All ordered Sunday roast with beef. Couldn't eat the meat, unable to cut it very very tough. Gravy watery and very little veg. A few carrots, 2 small pieces of broccolli, 4 small roast potatoes and a ramakin of cauliflower cheese to share between 3 people.

We chose to eat at the Half Moon Inn because of its very good Trip Advisor rating. It was very easy to book by phone and we were given a lovely, friendly welcome. The food was tasty and the portions generous without being over facing.

We attended a wake at the Half Moon. Just had to write a review on the food served. The veggie lasagne was gorgeous! also the Steak & Ale casserole was very nice too. Being disabled, although the loos aren't accessible they made every effort to make sure I was comfortable.

Food was very good and served hot. Service was also very good and the staff were friendly. My sister arrived first and my husband and I were running 30 mins late but when we arrived the staff were very pleasant and helpful making us feel welcome.

Been to half moon a good number of times, always lovely, but on this occasion things were different. We all had the Sunday roast, the potato’s were burnt, and the stuffing was so hard we couldn’t even cut it, and the gravy was like water....

We as a family can honestly say the roast dinner was teasless you couldn't cut the stuffing ball the pork was out of a packet for the price would not go back it use to be very good not now the guy behind the bar...

For a small pub in a small village. This is a show stopper. First impressions you would think your getting a standard pub meal. But this was well above that.
