Fabulous transformation of The Station Tavern from somewhere to avoid into somewhere to rush to! New team have made a massive improvement, and turned this venue into a first class gastropub, with great food, excellent drinks range, with welcoming service and attention to detail. Food is beautifully prepared, and delicious. As a resident of Grosmont, this is just what the village has been hoping for... Great job! 5 stars all round - visitors and locals will flock to this newly rejuvenated gem!

Called into the Station Tavern for a coffee in a "pot" cup instead of the usual paper at the station, and noted some people having Sunday lunch and it looked good. On spec, we ordered, and had a superb lunch, lovely pink roast beef, and eight (yes eight) veg all beautifully prepared and presented, star of the show were the creamed leaks which were delicious. If this is a new management team they're doing something right and we'll be back.

We were staying in the area and visited the pub on 3 occasions. We received a warm and friendly welcome each time, and the food was delicious. We were a little apprehensive prior to our first visit because of some negative reviews, however the pub is now under new management- the service and welcome we received couldn’t be further from the poor experiences people have had in the past. My wife and I have visited this pub on several occasions in the past, none of them remotely pleasant, due to the previous incumbent. However, we decided to visit again in the hope that things had changed. And how they have! The place felt warm and inviting with a lovely atmosphere as soon as we walked in. The bar has been re-decorated, a real fire was burning and the staff had a cheery smile with a welcoming attitude. We didn't eat here, but the food that was been sent out looked extremely good and plentiful. We only went in for a quick pint, but stayed for many more! We shall most certainly be back again now that Grosmont has a great pub to visit again. We wish Katie and Jack all the very best in your new venture.

If you read previous reviews it is hard to believe the the landlord could be that surly. Trust me- he is. We call in here 3 or 4 times a year when walking and travelling on the NYMR. Took some friends this time and we were spending plenty of money; not just nursing a half until the train came. We were made to feel very unwelcome and that he was doing us a favour by letting us be there at all. Shocking experience. Our visiting friends could not believe it. Good draught beers though.

This is the second time I’ve had the dubious pleasure of coming across this challenging human. The landlord is unreal. Last time I gave him the benefit of the doubt - this time he doesn’t get that benefit. Asked us if we were Gallon Walkers. Explained I didn’t know what that was. He shouted at me that I WAS A Gallon Walker so I could have a plastic glass or leave! I said that I didn’t mind having a plastic glass if that suited him - but I still didn’t know what he meant. He then began yelling - literally yelling at me that I was a Gallon Walker!! I still have no idea what this incredibly aggressive, unpleasant man was on about so we left and went to the club down the road. Seriously... this joker does not deserve your custom. I actually think he’s mad. What IS a Gallon Walker? And why is this guy so opposed to them? Absolute nutter. He doesn’t deserve your custom. Shame really because the pub is lovely - the landlord is mental though.

We called in fairly early on a Friday night we hadn't booked. The landlord could probably do with lessons in customer service and turned us away saying he was on his own, there were 2 empty tables in the bar area and the dining area was closed. We booked for the following night . The pie ok but nothing special and the pasta bake was nice. Eventually he came to clear the table we asked about desert and was told there would be an hour wait. Didn't seem like he wanted the business and not very accomodating

Arrived at 7pm to be informed that I couldn't have booked as they stop serving at 7. The incredibly rude barman told us we were lying and wouldn't serve us . We left and had to travel to Whitby by train just to eat. Told another couple who we knew, his phone had been hacked and it can't have been him that took the booking??? The lady proceeded to ring his number which surprise surprise he answered. If you get the option while doing the C2C, avoid staying at Grosmont . Stay in Egton Bridge a mile or 2 before .

We visited earlier in the year having travelled on the railway. We we “allowed in” but others weren’t. This time was totally different. When we arrived there were three other people in the pub. The landlord refused to serve us saying that they were fully booked. Really? We only wanted drinks. We went to the local mini market in the end and bought drinks there, in the hour we waited for our return train, we saw two other people go in and leave just as quickly as we did. Sorry Mr Landlord, but you simply don’t have a clue how to deal with customers. Heaven knows how you are still trading.

We approached this pub with trepidation given some of the recent reviews, but as we were in a B&B just around the corner this was the only obvious place to go without driving. The landlord was welcoming however so we ordered pie, chips and peas - now it wasn't actually haute cuisine but it was hot and well-cooked and the chips were especially nice. Two real ales on offer and the one I had was excellent. We called in for a drink only on our second night having stuffed ourselves with fish and chips in Whitby and again he came from behind the bar and chatted with us. he seemed quite positive towards coast-to-coasters (which was not us) and had some staying at the time. Absolutely no discourtesy or unpleasantness. So I'm not sure what's going on - is he very variable or is there some vendetta with untruthful reports?

We are staying in a cottage close to the station tavern and attempted to visit for our Sunday lunch. The landlord made it perfectly clear we were not welcome. We tried to sit down at 3pm to be told food will not be served for another hour and half, when we said we would have a drink and wait he changed his story and told us he is fully booked for the evening and to go elsewhere. There was one couple in the whole pub who had a menu infront of them! We had been warned prior to visiting that the landlord can be a bit miserable and I had read a few other bad reviews but thought we would give him the benefit of the doubt and give the place a try. The only thing I can think of is that we had our 2 children with us. We are staying here for a week but needless to say we won't be spending any money in there and we'll take our custom somewhere that actually wants our custom.

The landlord would appear to hate tourists and walkers a little strange given his chosen location….. he may be happier in a pub on South Bank Middlesbrough. He would appear to discourage walkers and tourists. We live 15 miles down the road and have never experienced such an unwelcome feeling. Upon discussion with locals apparently this is well known….. he just doesn’t like customers, unless you are in his club….. and you wonder why country pubs in North Yorkshire (I was borne and bread here) are closing down because of attitudes like this.

The barman, who I’m assuming having read the other reviews is also the landlord, is frankly a top class bell 🔔🔚. We stopped here for a pint whilst out on a walk with some friends and partners (all polite and respectable). When two of us...

Rude and difficult landlord, obnoxious to a Belgian student who wanted to charge his phone... Definitely would not recommend, but it's the only pub for miles and he knows it.. As someone has already said here, he needs to get a job he enjoys.

Ordered 4 roast dinners, the cutlery was loterally plonked on the table, when the dinners arrived at the table, we were quite surprised at the small portions, then a small bowl of overcooked vegetables arrived, probably enough for 2 people at most. Rude attitude from...

Seven of us called in for a pint the other day to be greeted with the most unfriendly, inhospitable bar man that we have ever encountered. His philosophy must be that the customer is always wrong. Told us that we couldn't stand at the bar,...

Barman was remarkably unwelcoming and grumpy. In an empty bar immediately after receiving our beers we were told by the barman to get away from the bar and bizarrely used the excuse that they still observed social distancing. As his pint was settling on the...

Went here with 2 friends from Uni as a special treat after exams. I don't really want to go into much detail, as I'd rather forget it, but half way through our meals, my friend had to go to the toilet and was physically sick...

La pasamos muy bien aquí anoche. Hemos estado visitando aquí desde hace un tiempo tanto para las comidas como para las bebidas. Mi pollo tandoori con verduras asadas estaba delicioso al igual que mi bistec de gammon de socios. Personal amable. Esperamos con interés nuestra próxima visita.

I have never seen such blatant racism in my life. This is 2024. People of colour and like minded people walking into this Jim Crow, antiquated backwards establish please be aware. To put a note not to offend is outrageous. We should be all tolerate of each others differences. Obviously a person who's not well versed and travelled. How can society move on when we have people who think that it's reasonable to offend people who are just enjoying their vacation. White privileges allows one to laugh, turn a blind eye or to offer a rationale for their inherent racism. Being White I can only apologise and say that the majority of educated White people just want to live in peace and unity. Should be ashamed. Schools visits! How do teachers explain gollywogs in todays society as being acceptable.
