I had one of the worst meals I've ever had, the food took ages to get to me, and when it did it was cold and under cooked, the staff wasn't apologetic at all and I found the whole experience disappointing

Richard, the owner, was incredibly helpful in booking and confirming four rooms for my three friends and me as we motorbiked around the southwest. The village is perfectly situated for exploring Dartmoor and the coast. Richard generously offered us secure parking for our four large bikes in the side patio area. Our one-night stay was exceptionally comfortable. The rooms and beds were fantastic, and the showers were truly outstanding. The evening dinner was a delightful experience, with excellent food, friendly service, and even a special off-menu lasagne for our fussy friend. Richard and his chef were wonderful hosts. The complimentary breakfast on the first floor offered a delicious buffet of cereal, croissants, fruit toast, yogurt, fruit, and plenty of juice, tea and coffee. For those craving a full English breakfast, it's available downstairs at an additional cost. The overall experience provided by Richard, Donna, and the team was simply excellent and incredibly good value. We'd definitely stay again with friends or family on our next trip to DevonExcellent overnight stay and donner

I drove all the way from Plympton for a cream tea after a rainy day, to be told that they had just closed over an hour early. Apologies given but no cream tea. I'm not impressed. What has been a favourite venue for many years has just thrown away my goodwill and lost custom. I'll take persuading to trust them again unfortunately.

A night in the Station House while we visited relatives in the area. We had the Brent room for the first time, which had a bath and shower. Quiter than other rooms so less easy to hear the trains on the nearby mainline. Seems to be at the rear of the building. The room system works for us because it gives us the freedom to come and go as we like. My wife and her guests had a light lunch there, veg soup, which was very good.

We waited over 40 minutes for lunch. The jacket potatoes were cold and solid (very undercooked), the chutney was missing from the curries, the poppadoms had been switched to onion bhajees, the sandwich was missing the coleslaw and the cutlery was dirty. I will certainly not be coming back.

What a treat this place is! We were served by Iona who was delightful and cheery and served a perfectly balanced decadent and indulgent slab of cake! I went for the special of the day which was the chicken salad and it was sublime! Brilliant atmosphere, a real cosy treat!

Always use this cafe and never been disappointed until today . My breakfast sandwich was brought out with brown seeded bread when I ordered it on white .the man who brought it out never said a word and walked off bringing it back on white bread 5 mins later only for us to discover the bread was mouldy to which again he said nothing picked it up and took it away. On his return he gave me the sandwich with fresh bread without so much as an apology not a word. On this showing I will think twice about going back which is a shame as the usual staff that we have dealt with in the past have always been very attentive

Lovely old fashioned setting and a good choice of tasty dishes and cake. However, we consider the prices to be a little excessive and doubt we will return for food just perhaps, a coffee.

Not at all sure why we have only just discovered this place! The most amazing cheese and red onion paninis presented very differently alongside small pots of pickle; coleslaw and a side salad. More than enough for lunch. We also came the next day for hot chocolate and home-made carrot cake. Huge slices and delicious hot chocolate. I can see this becoming a regular place to meet up.

The chicken curry was terrible - the worst my mother in law had ever had. It was watery, flavourless, hardly had any chicken in it. Such a disappointment.

Came here with a cycling group and had a ploughman's and banana milkshake made by Trevor in the kitchen. Milkshake had bananas in it, on top with the cream and a wafer - may have had ice-cream also, it was really cold and the best milkshake I've ever had. Came back again with another group and had the milkshake again but it just wasn't a patch on the previous (no biscuit, no bananas, not cold) - when I mentioned this was not what I was expecting - was told different kitchen staff make it in different ways. Will check who's in the kitchen if I come again.

Been here several times now since January 2023, mostly for their fun quiz night that runs fortnightly on Fridays. Also came here for Sunday lunch for Mother's Day. The food and atmosphere are fantastic, especially the Sunday roast: one of the best we've had with loads of freshly prepared, perfectltly cooked veg. I shook the hand of Trevor the cook. The quiz has become our new family fun night to look forward to. We've learnt to book a table to eat food because it can get very busy. My partner and daughter have chosen pizzas so far (freshly made dough and proper thick cut bacon if you order a meat variety). I've now had their lasagne (tasty, but maybe slightly dry) and their tuna melt panini. Richard, the manager, writes and reads the quiz in his own fun, quirky way with multiple silly hats for music bonus questions. He's got a penchant for Beatles questions. Everyone in the Station House, including customers, are friendly and considerate. The decor's really nice. The staff are brilliant. And it's dog friendly too

Went for lunch today. I ordered a homemade chicken curry which looked fine but when I started to eat I came across a whole cardamon pod with seeds. Thinking it was a one off I carried on with the meal and found 16 WHOLE CARDAMON PODS altogether in my meal. I spoke to the waitress who consulted with the chef, agreed that they should not have been there and asked me what I wanted. I asked for a refund on my meal but I was told they could not do that as the till as locked. The best they could offer was a slice of cake to take home. Not good enough.

If you want the very best homemade everything from delicious cakes to savoury meals, this is your place. The café is just gorgeous - vintage china, beautifully set out tables, sofa areas and a lovely atmosphere. Staff are delightful and can't do enough to help. Probably our favourite café because it's just great and we've never been disappointed.

Called in here for dinner one evening when staying in the area. Inside and outside space was limited due to Covid separation needs but luckily managed to find seating indoors when another party left. Young, enthusiastic staff but seemed inexperienced. Ordered pizzas but dough had run out ( 6.30 p.m.) so offered panini pizzas instead. These were good ( and perhaps should always be on the menu?). They stop serving food quite early so you could be caught out if you usually dine late. We enjoyed the experience but felt it will be better when staff have settled into their roles. (Need to re- think the placing of some outside tables in narrow sloping alley beside the building- doesn’t work...)

This location used to be a pub which was closed down (allegedly by the Customs and Excise) in 2019. Revitalised by the new owners that are trying really hard to make this a success. Give it a go.

Total lack of customer service. Walked in to order takeaway coffee and absolutely no acknowledgment of presence. She continued preparing orders without even acknowledging me or saying ‘I’ll be a moment’ which is not taxing to do. After 5 minutes of being completely ignored I left and got my coffee elsewhere. At least acknowledge customers when they’re waiting!

Not visited for a while and there’s a new manager in place. On arrival we were told that your booked table “was in there with your name on it”. The open fires have been replaced with what looks like dog baskets so the atmosphere seemed cold. Food was ok by the way and as the evening progressed we were being pushed to move on. At this point the restaurant was less than half full with no one waiting to sit to eat. I asked for an Irish coffee and the reply was simply “no”.Then out of the blue he exited from the kitchen grabbed our glasses which weren’t empty and said” we are closing in 5 minutes please leave” . This was at 9.55 pm with other drinkers still in the bar. Bloody ignorant and rude I think and won’t be returning
