Sadly this pub remains closed. Some work has been done on the building but there is no indication that it will reopen soon. Best to check before travelling. The nearest pub is the Black Horse at West Tytherley which has good reviews.

Stopped here for lunch on our way through. The main menu was rather limited, and we did not see the specials board until after we had ordered. We both had the rump steak, and ordered it medium rare. While it was more on the medium than rare side in my estimation, it was nevertheless very tasty, and came with a good variety of accompaniments: mushrooms, grilled tomato, peas, salad and chips, all of which were nicely presented and tasted good. The chips were beautifully crispy, and I ate more than I intended! Service was very helpful and came with a smile.

Had lunch with some walking mates . Started off pretty badly with an inordinate wait to be served and we were then we jumped . With only 1 man behind the bar doing everything it's not surprising it was slow . He did later get some help . Then some of what we had ordered was not available. Having said that the beer was very good and the food good especially the fresh fish which was excellent. We were told the food service may be slow but was actually not too bad. It was also good value and service was friendly.

Eaten here a couple of times in the last month, and the food had been excellent. Went yesterday with family and again food was lovely but new bar manager was overwhelmed I feel and missed the gluten free /( no croutons request ) completely. Hope he settles down quickly!

My mum and I had a wonderful lunch at The Star today. Spur of the moment decision to go there but well worth it. We both had home made soup and bread to start - which was like a meal in itself, then home made chicken and leek pie with lots of lovely fresh vegetables. What we couldn’t eat was parcelled up for us to take home! The barman was lovely and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Definitely will return and absolutely recommend it.

Had a great Valentine evening here. Great value set menu of 4 courses plus coffee. Lovely food and generous portions from a talented chef. A lot of effort had gone into the room decorations for the evening and very friendly and helpful staff. Pub area has nice leather sofas and an open log fire so can't wait to go back!

We took the three grandchildren after a three visit at Montisfont Abbey. Arrived at 13.40 and discovered that the kitchen serves until 14.30. The adults both enjoyed Ham, egg and chips which at £11.95 is excellent value. It was obvious that the generous portion of ham was home cooked and excellent, the home made coleslaw was dominated by onion and again excellent. The green salad had an excellent dressing, almost unheard of in a pub in the UK. The homemade chips whilst numerous were horrible! A shame. The three children meals at £4.95 were very poor value. Each child did not enjoy the overcooked chicken, poor chips and either baked beans or peas. Further problems were by serving these meals on a square side plate. So most of the meal transferred to the table. The beer was the best I have enjoyed in a pub for many years. However, the interior was very tired. So not a pub to return too with children, if eating!

Like all pubs the ambiance changes over the evening but this one is well patronised by a broad spectrum of local people. There is a menu and a black-board, the latter changing during the week. There are three real ales and the usual 'fizzy' taps for the youngsters. The food is well on the plus side of acceptable and they are not mean with the portions. There is also the pint and a plateful for a tenner. Bar area, seating for eating in another area and ample 'sitting in the evening sun' provision.

Last minute decision to go out for an evening meal, not visited the Star for a few years so gave it a try, greeted by friendly staff and customers. A good selection of food to choose from, good service and food a reasonable price. Lovely county pub, plenty of parking, will visit again with friends and family.

Myself and my partner were coming back from a very disappointing visit to a nearby local pub, on the off chance we came across The Star on the journey home, decided to pop in and have a look. We're so glad we did!!! The most amazing friendly public house ever!!!! The landlord and landlady are the most warm and accommodating couple ever. The bar and the locals who drink there are a pleasure to be around, i strongly recommend anybody in the area to pop in and experience it for yourselves, highly recommend the food as well, as for Stavros, your secret is safe with us!!!!😁😁.xx

Turned up on a Sunday eve in winter with my wife and mother-in-law and understandably a quiet time. My wife is a chicatarian and we were offered a choice of meals the chef could make for us outside of the menu! All delicious and what a lovely experience - nothing too much. Happened the second time for lunch and again, no problem to make something for my wife off the menu... Great service, food, atmosphere and location - and bloody good value for drinks and food. Great stuff, but keep it quiet please...

We popped in here for a drink on a week night with a view to eat. The place is filthy and basically a boozer just for drinkers. If you aren't local or love getting sloshed then don't bother. It is unwelcoming and not worth visiting wouldn't recommend and wouldn't bother going back. Nothing good to say about it.

Where to start, this venue is in a quiet location by the village cricket green. Arriving in the carpark there is a small pen with 2 goats and some chickens and before entering The star there is a pen with 3 pigs, a real country feel even before you go in. The pub has a great feeling, a roaring log fire and everyone was very welcoming and friendly. Now the food, the menu is limited for lunch consisting of a snack and mains on 2 chalk boards so was a bit worried about the selection but it works so well, the food was great, home cooked and well presented. The Tempura prawns were to die for, home made pie mash and fresh veg (my mum is very critical of food but she loved it) and gammon with egg. The cost is reasonable for that quality of food, I understand that the menu does change weekly so that is why they do the chalkboards. Would I go here again? Most definitely and would recommend it to anyone who wanted to go somewhere that was a lot nicer than your run of the mill brewery owned pubs with a standard menue and microwaved food.

Interesting daily specials on chalk board but we passed these over for light lunch menu, choosing panini. These came hot and generously filled ( more so than average) but what set this apart was the garnish- a small bowl of chips on wooden platter with a home made salad, lightly dressed. Excellent presentation. Very comfortable bar with comfy armchairs and sofa with magazines on coffee table. Good range of real ales- one from Itchen Valley brewery, one from Upham( tasty light summer beer) and one from Ringwood I recall. Pi mms available by glass or jug. Nice terrace to sit out- and cricket to watch just beyond the carpark. We wished we had been able to stay for dinner. Another time - though pub is off the beaten track.

Two of us ate here, stopping half way through a cycle ride from home to have a pint and bar food. For early on a Friday evening the pub was doing a good trade. We ordered beef lasagne and sat outside to wait. For pub food the 40 minute wait was too long but when it arrived the meal itself was delicious. Our biggest issue was the area around the door, outside the pub entrance where we sat. There was a pile of four ashtrays and a bucket sized pot nearly overflowing with cigarette ends. There must have been weeks worth in there and as we sat saw people throwing, and often missing, their cigarette ends into the pot. We'd go back but would like to see the outside area cleaned up a bit.

Portway Inn, was the best place for breakfats for my family and I. we use to go each week. Todday we were turned away and was told they no longer accept outside customers only residents only. I have taken a picture of each of these. There terms and conditions, there website, their menu and when you walk towards the reception entrance from car park, no where does it say residents only can get breakfast. what a waste of time and fuel. I am so disappointed.

My daughter and I found this cafe by accident. Here are our thoughts. 1. too small to allow dogs indoors. 2. could do with a bit of a refresh. The chair pads were stained and there were grease stains up the wall by our table. 3. toilet was very clean but on the first floor which meant climbing some very steep steps. Not disabled friendly. However my daughter who is vegetarian had a really good choice of foods and thoroughly enjoyed her meal. The young staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The coffee was delicious as was my hummus platter with Greek salad. The prices were good and I would highly recommend but I think it could be even better with a bit of a refurb. Didn't get to see the garden as it was too hot to sit outside but from the photos it looks really nice.

Lovely pub, full of atmosphere and really old (grade 2 listed with parts from 16th century) we had perfectly cooked sirloin steaks. Ladies in heels beware, the paving between the car park and entrance has some missing pointing with deep gaps, enough to either wreck your shoes or test your ability to resist gravity if it's dark or you aren't watching where you walk. Lovely pub, masses of parking although no disabled parking bays to be found (although there may be one which is almost faded out so hard to be sure) which is a shame and they could certainly add a couple more as if you are disabled the walk across the car park would be too far for most.
