Went today for a family birthday meal. As usual, the food is amazing and the staff are warm and welcoming. A perfect family village pub.

Sara and her team were fantastic when our mum’s wake was held there last Tuesday. The buffet food was really lovely and plenty of it. The staff were as friendly and welcoming as always.

The wife meets up with her sisters every week here. They have a great to.e and say the food and service are good. I have had a few meals here and yes they are not bad. Good value and the service is good.

At the Star Inn yesterday evening with a friend who is gluten intolerant, there is a gluten free menu which has plenty of choice. My friend had the chicken tika and was very impressed. I had BBQ chicken burger skinny version with the salad and we shared a portion of gluten free chips. Every thing was piping hot freshly cooked and delicious. Lovely pint of Peroni Lovely meal nice atmosphere 👌 All in all a lovely evening 😀

We had a family meal here, the staff were great. They accommodated some picky eaters and dietary requirements without a fuss. Jamie was particularly helpful. Would recommend and return.

Another fantastic evening at the Star. Usual amazing staff ready to give a warm welcome along with some new friendly faces. Food was excellent! We got to try the specials menu which was delicious, the chicken and chorizo kebab was delicious. 10/10 as always!

Thought we would drop in for early meal. Very busy just managed to find a table for 5. Ordered meals , meals came quiet quickly. Only problem asked for medium rare steak more medium than rare. Came out more medium than rare. Asked servic this was wrong. Fair play taken straight back to get new one. Was very tasty 😋 thanks nice meals. ....

I had a veggie chili with various sauces and it was delicious. Will definitely be back soon. Also the gentleman who looked after us was very pleasant. Full marks!

Called in with my kids for an evening meal.. Food was hot and arrived quickly. A proper village pub with a restaurant feel. Staff are always amazing.

We love The Star Pub in Dinas Powys. It has a lovely country pub feel, with welcoming staff, excellent service, and great traditional pub food. We’ve been here for Sunday lunch a few times and have always been really happy. We’ve been searching for a great local pub for Sunday lunch for a while, and we’re so glad to have discovered The Star. *Update* we since have returned midweek to eat from the main menu, the food was also excellent! 😊

Although we have dined here quite a few times especially on special occasions I was actually appalled at the way my friend was treated when she called in to book a table for 14 for 30 september.we have booked for the same amount of people before without any problem provided the food order in advance as requested and have always enjoyed ourselves so I'm finding it hard to understand why this booking was refused for September 30 but we could go on Oct 1st.The reason for this booking was a birthday and definitely not for the offer of 30% off - I will add that the team member was going to take this booking but the chef refused so please be prepared to have your bookings for large parties refused although the website says groups welcome -other than this occasion the food the service and the atmosphere has always been very good and Sarah the manager amazing -such a shame because we doubt if we will celebrate there again.

My husband and I ordered a drink. Sat down then ordered food. My curry was an Wednesday deal with a drink. Went to get my drink included with the meal but was told as we had paid outright and not on the tab cldnt have the drink. The bar lady hadn't offered me a drink when I placed my order. Not very Impressed

We regularly eat in the Star and in July booked a family birthday. I was very impressed that all the food came out together and for 14 people that is to be commended. We were all happy with our meals. We have been back several times since, just my husband and I and we cannot understand how the food standard has dropped. Last week I had a steak which I asked to be well done, but it had to go back as it was still mooing, and this week I was tempted by a marketing email for the “new”salt and chilli kebab. The reality was the chicken was the brown meat, and really very very fatty and slimy. I couldn’t taste the salt and chilli as it was overwhelmed by the piri piri sauce. Very disappointing so I think we will have a break for a while and hope the standard improves. In fairness, we do like the pub.

Very friendly and helpful staff, My husband asked for a jug handled glass as he struggles to hold the straight glasses as he has arthritis in his right hand , but none available, when he went back for his second pint the bar man had hunted for one and found one especially it was very much appreciated.

This was a fantastic place, the staff were friendly, the surrounding comfortable and welcoming. The menu offered a great selection of mains and sides, my daughter especially liked the specials menu.

Sunday evening meal. The food was good and served quickly . We thought everything was good value for our money. We would visit again.

Disappointing tonight. I appreciate it's the first week of reopening, but half an hour before our drinks arrive? Then we wait another half an hour after we finish our mains for one child's dessert. Food pretty good as always, basic pub fayre. Staff were clearly under pressure, but a couple of them were needlessly surly. Won't be coming back in a hurry.

Sunday lunch was excellent. The beef in particular was very tender and surpassed the other Marston Pubs we have tried in and around Cardiff

From the first friendly welcome from Pete to the enjoyable beer this was a welcome hostelry close to my overnight stay. Forty seven years after my first pint of Brains SA this was to be a welcome return. I had the gammon steak dinner which was very good indeed. On Sunday evening I returned again for a third time this a drink with family ahead of a tv evening watching football and the SA served by the barman, (sorry if the name is incorrect O’Shea) from County Cork. I believe not only did he serve the pint but looks after the barrels and pipes to bring it up fresh and tasty. It was the definitive pint, the best I’ve ever tasted. Hence my comment, and I will be back.

We have come a few times and the food has always been very good. Yesterday thought it would be nice to bring our dog…checked the website and it stayed “dogs welcome”. However, on arrival we were told we couldn’t bring him in the main restaurant part of the premises, only the bar. The bar is a tiny little corner and was already full - plus we were meeting my parents for a full meal. The outside area wasn’t mentioned even though it was a lovely day so asked and was told that was fine. Just a bit unclear and left us feeling like we’d been the ones to do something wrong even though we had checked. Suggest the website is changed to reflect what actually is acceptable- or change the rules.

Every time we visit The Star we always get a warm and friendly welcome from Sara, Mike and the team. Nothing is too much trouble for them, they will always oblige with a request where possible. Today we were served by Sian, who is always a pleasant lady. We would always recommend The Star to anyone who is looking for somewhere nice to enjoy a lovely meal.

Just had to hear the Irish barman deal with one of most awkward,condescending and rude customers I’ve ever heard and he showed brilliant patience and professionalism - thought it deserved to be mentioned

Met up with the family, Had a Lovely Sunday Roast , servers were lovely, made to feel very welcome, I had my granddaughter with me unplanned, another bigger table was found to accommodate us all, will definitely book a table again

Not what it once was. Extortionate prices for average pub food. Not very welcoming unless you've pre-booked a table, even if you don't intend eating there!. Place seems to double as a crèche between 12pm and 9pm, a loud ,irratic and uncomfortable atmosphere usually prevails and the place is over due refurbishment and redecoration.

A great local home cooked Sunday lunch. Nice to see kitchen hours past 4pm on a Sunday. Would highly recommend. Staff are awesome too, very friendly.

Had a most wonderful Sunday roast lunch, we went for the larger dinner and was surprised by the huge size. The quantity was absolutely perfect, there was a lovely twist to the red cabbage with the addition of apple. As per normal the staff hit it out of the park! Well done and thank you very much.

It's a pleasure to visit The Star. Staff are always friendly and welcoming. Food is great and don't have to wait long. Atmosphere is chatty and friendly. Always enjoy it here.

My husband had the mega mixed grill, fabulous. I has a sirloin medium rare, cooked perfectly. My only disappointment was the peppercorn sauce, very thin and not very peppery. But this wouldn't stop us going back because we were able to take our dogs to the dog area. We went because of a special offer, but would pay full price, just don't have the peppercorn sauce.

Beautiful pub which is alot bigger inside than it seems! Accommodated 30 of us with ease and both the service and food was fantastic! Serving 30 people three courses plus drinks (whilst the pub was already quite busy) I'm sure is quite a challenge but Pete and the team coped extremely well! Thank you!!

The staff are warm and welcoming, the venue is always clean and tidy and the food was good too! The wine is a little expensive but at least it limits how much i drink :)

Our birthday celebration proved to.be an excellent experience as on numerous previous visits The staff are delightful and nothing is too much trouble The food is hot first class cooking and very prompt service The only disappointment at this visit was the fact that we were unable to finish our meal with a.lovely coffee as their coffee machine was broken which was a great shame as we do.love to complete our dining experience with their first class coffee
