What a lovely place. Myself and the family popped in while in the area and we were overwhelmed by the hospitality that we received especially from Sara. She was amazing with my 3 year old and made our visit most enjoyable. Will definitely return next time we are in the are

My husband and I ordered a drink. Sat down then ordered food. My curry was an Wednesday deal with a drink. Went to get my drink included with the meal but was told as we had paid outright and not on the tab cldnt have the drink. The bar lady hadn't offered me a drink when I placed my order. Not very Impressed

We regularly eat in the Star and in July booked a family birthday. I was very impressed that all the food came out together and for 14 people that is to be commended. We were all happy with our meals. We have been back several times since, just my husband and I and we cannot understand how the food standard has dropped. Last week I had a steak which I asked to be well done, but it had to go back as it was still mooing, and this week I was tempted by a marketing email for the “new”salt and chilli kebab. The reality was the chicken was the brown meat, and really very very fatty and slimy. I couldn’t taste the salt and chilli as it was overwhelmed by the piri piri sauce. Very disappointing so I think we will have a break for a while and hope the standard improves. In fairness, we do like the pub.

Very friendly and helpful staff, My husband asked for a jug handled glass as he struggles to hold the straight glasses as he has arthritis in his right hand , but none available, when he went back for his second pint the bar man had hunted for one and found one especially it was very much appreciated.

We were well satisfied with both the food and the beer. Crispy and tasty fish and chips and a salad full of varied, good quality ingredients in a thriving community pub with friendly staff.

From the first friendly welcome from Pete to the enjoyable beer this was a welcome hostelry close to my overnight stay. Forty seven years after my first pint of Brains SA this was to be a welcome return. I had the gammon steak dinner which was very good indeed. On Sunday evening I returned again for a third time this a drink with family ahead of a tv evening watching football and the SA served by the barman, (sorry if the name is incorrect O’Shea) from County Cork. I believe not only did he serve the pint but looks after the barrels and pipes to bring it up fresh and tasty. It was the definitive pint, the best I’ve ever tasted. Hence my comment, and I will be back.

We have come a few times and the food has always been very good. Yesterday thought it would be nice to bring our dog…checked the website and it stayed “dogs welcome”. However, on arrival we were told we couldn’t bring him in the main restaurant part of the premises, only the bar. The bar is a tiny little corner and was already full - plus we were meeting my parents for a full meal. The outside area wasn’t mentioned even though it was a lovely day so asked and was told that was fine. Just a bit unclear and left us feeling like we’d been the ones to do something wrong even though we had checked. Suggest the website is changed to reflect what actually is acceptable- or change the rules.

Every time we visit The Star we always get a warm and friendly welcome from Sara, Mike and the team. Nothing is too much trouble for them, they will always oblige with a request where possible. Today we were served by Sian, who is always a pleasant lady. We would always recommend The Star to anyone who is looking for somewhere nice to enjoy a lovely meal.

Just had to hear the Irish barman deal with one of most awkward,condescending and rude customers I’ve ever heard and he showed brilliant patience and professionalism - thought it deserved to be mentioned

As usual the food and service was exceptional. the large fish and chip was and is always good value, well cooked and a large white cod portion, better than any chip shop. Lowry was very good as our host. Thank you.

Not what it once was. Extortionate prices for average pub food. Not very welcoming unless you've pre-booked a table, even if you don't intend eating there!. Place seems to double as a crèche between 12pm and 9pm, a loud ,irratic and uncomfortable atmosphere usually prevails and the place is over due refurbishment and redecoration.

Met up with the family, Had a Lovely Sunday Roast , servers were lovely, made to feel very welcome, I had my granddaughter with me unplanned, another bigger table was found to accommodate us all, will definitely book a table again

Sara and her team were fantastic when our mum’s wake was held there last Tuesday. The buffet food was really lovely and plenty of it. The staff were as friendly and welcoming as always.

A great local home cooked Sunday lunch. Nice to see kitchen hours past 4pm on a Sunday. Would highly recommend. Staff are awesome too, very friendly.

Food and service was stunning, we just found it way too loud. Next time I think we'll ask for a table at the back.....update, just finished a meal with my boys and all food was stunning. I will be definitely coming back here

Had a most wonderful Sunday roast lunch, we went for the larger dinner and was surprised by the huge size. The quantity was absolutely perfect, there was a lovely twist to the red cabbage with the addition of apple. As per normal the staff hit it out of the park! Well done and thank you very much.

Good review, due to attentive bar staff, nice food. However I would say that your drinks are much more expensive compared to the two pubs 50 yards away. Maybe needs looking at.

My husband had the mega mixed grill, fabulous. I has a sirloin medium rare, cooked perfectly. My only disappointment was the peppercorn sauce, very thin and not very peppery. But this wouldn't stop us going back because we were able to take our dogs to the dog area. We went because of a special offer, but would pay full price, just don't have the peppercorn sauce.

Fab staff great quality of food value for money. One niggly point some of the tables and chairs could do with replacing..but cheers

Beautiful pub which is alot bigger inside than it seems! Accommodated 30 of us with ease and both the service and food was fantastic! Serving 30 people three courses plus drinks (whilst the pub was already quite busy) I'm sure is quite a challenge but Pete and the team coped extremely well! Thank you!!

The staff are warm and welcoming, the venue is always clean and tidy and the food was good too! The wine is a little expensive but at least it limits how much i drink :)

Our birthday celebration proved to.be an excellent experience as on numerous previous visits The staff are delightful and nothing is too much trouble The food is hot first class cooking and very prompt service The only disappointment at this visit was the fact that we were unable to finish our meal with a.lovely coffee as their coffee machine was broken which was a great shame as we do.love to complete our dining experience with their first class coffee

Staff are pleasant and helpful. Food was nice and hot. Could do with some standard lager. The menu indicates fosters but it is not available. It was overall a lovely evening though

Booked for a Christmas dinner, the food was fine. And the waiter was excellent. However problems started with the bill. £15 was paid as a deposit and was not taken off the bill, this has now been refunded. The next problem was a child menu had gone through as a adult. After a few emails with the Star im still waiting for the £10 refund.

We visited the area for the day to meet up with friends and they booked the star for lunch I had the Southern friend hunters chicken and it was amazing The whole experience was great and I highly recommend going

What a beautiful place, staff were very polite, helpful and smart. Drinks were well poured and tasty... Atmosphere was warm, happy and relaxed. Definitely worth a visit. Going to order food next time.

An enjoyable Christmas atmosphere but not overly noisy. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating. We didn’t have the Christmas menu due to the short time span of returning from holiday a few days earlier but the food was still excellent and very enjoyable. It would have been nice to be able to have had the Christmas Fare without having to preorder but understand the logistics behind it. Will be visiting again soon

The star Inn was recommended by a colleague for our Christmas meal. What a fantastic choice! Everyone enjoyed their reasonably priced meal, it was warm and cosy. Food was delicious and the staff were very polite

Pub was very busy at 19:30 but got served quickly. Food was classic pub food, which I can't fault. The staff were friendly and efficient. My only negative is the toilets could be a bit cleaner, but in no way would this put me off revisiting.

We were a large group of 24 booked in for Christmas lunch. It was a fantastic experience from the moment we arrived, welcomed warmly by the wonderful staff, we were all served at the same time (not an easy task) with absolutely beautifully presented delicious food. My fish was cooked to perfection. Congratulations to the chef and his staff. Throughout our meal the staff were helpful and attentive, always smiling, nothing was too much trouble. A fantastic and enjoyable experience from start to finish. A big thank you to all the staff at The Star in Dinas Powis.

There were 7 of us, having different menus, all meals arrived at the same time and everyone enjoyed their food. The only thing I would have changed was it seemed to he a bit rushed with no time in between courses.

No food purchased on this visit, though the food is usually excellent here. Staff are good. What was very disappointing was the price of a very small 275ml bottle of Becks Blue non alcoholic at £4.20, which is a 7 times mark up on retail. This is clearly nonsense, though it's probably foisted upon the poor licensees by Marstons in house pricing.

My previous reviews of the Star have been very positive so it's with much regret that this review is not so positive. We have been visiting the Star for some months now and previously never disappointed. Unfortunately last Sunday 19th Nov we were very disappointed with our lunch.The carrots and swede were lacking in flavour and there was very little cheese on the cauliflower.The gravy was very salty and the roast potatoes were not freshly cooked and hard to cut with the knife.The Yorkshire pudding was flat like a pancake and again no flavour.Also there was no cabbage which we had on previous occasions,instead we had red cabbage which is a strange one for us as we've never had that on a sunday lunch before and definitely won't be having it again.Between the 5 of us we had Turkey and Beef and both were very nice along with a lovely mash.If I had to mark the meal out of 10 it would be a 4 just because of the mash and meat.My wife questioned if they had changed chefs but was assured it was the same chef as previous visits.Personally we were not convinced.We have had many a nice lunch during the week so shall be visiting again but definitely not for Sunday lunch.

Popped in for a meal on a last minute, Friday night, kitchen closing around 9. Busy, busy busy but still did well. Two portions of Fish and Chips with mushy peas were lovely. Crispy batter (no mushy batter), nicely cooked chips served piping hot. As I was driving I asked for an alcoholic free drink, and was offered a nice selection. Went for the real ale option (yep, real ale, low alcohol 0.5% almost free) Ghost Ship, fresh, fruity and very tasty. Hi to the guys wearing their very flowery shirts and for bearing with my bruvs jokes 😉😏

Came here and was slightly apprehensive due to a recent review from Susan below, but I should have ignored this as we had an amazing time, all our needs were catered for, including a severe allergy on our table, that was dealt with very professionally and gave us confidence in dining with you - Susan must be blind! Dreadful service cold reception because we arrived early food delivered Luke warm and overcooked wene I enquired about the hour wait was informed a pre ordered large party had been served this I know as I was behind them ...all Thier food had been pre ordered and booked so you knew what time , how many and Thier requirements ...that should make it easier for the kitchen not harder ...no once we're asked if everything was ok no one said thankyou as we left and we had spent almost £50 in Thier ..my grandsons chicken noughats almost burnt my granddaughter's plastic mash potato plonked on her plate gravy like water ..and yes my background is food, .hospitality and frount and back of house ...I wanted to go elsewhere after our first encounter with whomever it was ...only wish I had of ....shame on you ,!!!

A lovely warm welcome from a gentleman who asked myself and my daughter what we would like to drink, he knew we were part of a party of 4. He saw to our drinks immediately and brought them over. We were given sufficient time to settle and look at the menu before the gentleman came over and asked if we would like starters, he took our order and took note that we had only ordered 2 starters and tried to do us a favour by telling us there used to be a deal on starters if you ordered 3, he checked the menu but apologised and explained the menu had since changed, but we thought that was really nice of him to check. The food, on each course, was served promptly and was delicious 😋. Overall excellent service and food.

Went their sunday for the first time, had a fantastic lamb Sunday lunch, definitely going back and really friendly service, highly reccomend!!
