The best bar in New Town! Had such a great time here and the bar staff are lovely. Would recommend their tequila selection.

A very good place to experience a Scottish pub. Very good vibes and this place does not feel touristy at all. Nice staff! Shoutout to a bartender Bella! An absolutely amazing person :)

A great place to pop in and meet a wide cross section of folk. Quirky but friendly staff and clientele. Nice beer garden and table football. Resident DJ on Thursday night is a treat! Sometimes accompanied by Callum a cocktail conjurer behind the bar if you fancy a tasty tipple!

Eclectic small bar, very friendly, comfy seats, reasonable DJ in my age group 😀 ! Sometimes they have bar food (bread, butter and decent pate).

Super cool place. Edinburgh's best kept secret!! Unlike so many pubs out there, this place is real. Just had a new owner take over too, clearly a lot of effort going into making it the best boozer in the city

Just dropped in this evening for a pint of Guinness...fine...it was NOT filled properly and looked miserable...I suggested to the barman (owner) that he could just finish off my clearly unfinished pint of Guinness.... hmmmm “Get tae F^^k” was the response!! No wonder the place is up for sale!! Cheer up and pour a decent pint would be my advice.....and well work the rest out for yer self!!! Abysmal customer service...that’s it.

Arrived to find it empty. It used to be my favourite Edinburgh bar, however after tonight’s experience no longer. My attempt at humour “ You’ll just have me to bore you “ , was greeted with “ Please don’t” £11 lighter after 2 pints , and no jukebox choice ( why I went there in the first place ) which was due to COVID ( strange reason ), although the jukebox was on , playing mindless rubbish. The owner or manager is the most ignorant person I have had the displeasure to meet, and not on just this evening’s unfortunate experience, every time I have encountered him. After saying “ It must be good to be open again “ I was answered with a shrug of the shoulders. Could be a great bar with a different owner manager. I won’t be back.

Came here with my dog for a quiet drink. This place is great if you like something a bit different in Edinburgh! Haunted? Check. Great music? Check. Relaxed atmosphere? Check! Don't come here if you're after something pretentious, chilled people / dogs only.

Tucked away on a little alleyway in the New Town, it's not hard to overlook this bar entirely - but I'm glad I didn't. Nice, relaxed atmosphere, good music, and good beer garden.

Si eres un o no snowflake pagar por bebidas en la ciudad, entonces Wspoons puede ser más para ti. this bar is sound, the barmaid (beth? steph? jeff?) was super nice and super hot i had a mini stroke and forgot how to count to £1.90 and the lovely barmaid helped me out without mocking me for being an absolute fud my only complaint is the concept of forbidden snacks in the premises. I ordered a diet coke (the unofficial drink of people obsessed with their weight, NOT UNHEALTHY) and i was mocked by a barman for ordering something “unhealthy” at least the patter was good tho

£3.30 for a grouse on its own! Robbery. It prides itself on being a sort of retro pub. I was shocked at the price of a single grouse. I hope it was a mistake in which case I'd like my money back please.

I went there last week with my husband for a pint after work. I thought drinks a bit expensive in Edinburgh however I really liked music and atmosphere! I would love to go back there sometime soon.:) 隠れ家的な雰囲気のパブでした。いい感じのBGMにアンティークの家具が落ち着く雰囲気を醸し出しています。ドリンクはエディンバラにしてはお高めでしたが、ゆっくり楽しめたのでいいかなと思います。

The Star Bar is an all time classic hangout. It's tucked away in the heart of Edinburgh's new town. Drinks are reasonable and there's a decent enough selection; something for everyone. Perfect place to enjoy some good music (on their juke box) and just hang out.

We went here on Saturday night for a few drinks, found it to be a great little local, good mixture of feeling like an old mans pub and a quirky bar. Foosball table, dart board and loads of random cool items around the bar and a good crowd of people.Well worth a visit if you are in the area!

The usual old style pub. It's hidden away in the New Town, so no tourists as it's hard to find. The prices are standard. It's nothing special, but then again there's nothing wrong with it. It's dog friendly so, if you like dogs you'll love it. I'll definitely be going back.

Avoid on a sunny day as the ponytailed barman will be too busy sunbathing in the garden to come and serve you. Otherwise nice bar with a good but loud jukebox. That is probably so the barman can hear it while catching some rays in the garden.

Tucked away, kitschy and full of folklore it may be, a good place to drink it most certainly is not. While the Star Bar may have some good things going for it (the aforementioned assets, the foosball table, the boardgames, the cheap jukebox) it is found wanting in the most basic of Bar necessities (yes, the simple Bar necessities). The beer is terrible but expensive (£3.80 for a tinny tasting Tennants). There is a poor selection of drinks whether your poison be beers, wines or spirits (and if you're the designated driver - prepare to have the bank broken...) The seating is sparse and uncomfortable (tired, worn sofas, wonky stools and scratched up tables). The toilets are passably clean but in need of a bit of a refurb to bring them out of the mid 90's. Staff are rude and like to think they are cooler than thou. Actually, it's pretty much like the place is a downtrodden 90's pub... and not in a good way.

The Star Bar is one of those pubs that you’ll first visit on a recommendation (as it's not easy to find) – but pretty everyone who visits seems to love the place. Very popular with locals and full of the type of quirky charm you can only find in bars hidden in the New Town. The bar is rather small so you don’t get a massive selection but there’s enough spirits to keep everyone happy and there’s always Deuchars on tap. A great selection on the jukebox (popular place for music lovers) and very much dog friendly with a nice beer garden at the back. If you like small, quirky pubs then this is the place for you - if you’re more of a Wetherspoons person then it’s best to stay away! The Star Bar rarely changes which is part of its charm but a much welcome improvement is the recent introduction of a food menu. Be aware that this is very limited (burgers and hotdogs) but the quality rivals anything offered by the hipster George Street bars. My Bacon and Cheese Burger was perfectly cooked, well presented and is genuinely one of the best I’ve had in a long time (and im fussy!).One of my favourite Edinburgh pubs and well worth a visit.

Hands down the best pub in Edinburgh, the drink isn't cheap but 10p a play on the jukebox makes up for it. Great for a quiet drink during the week & a lot more lively on Friday/Saturday nights.

Hadn't been here for a long time but had good memories. Visited last week and ordered 2 glasses of house white. Given three choices and charged £9.10 for two small glasses. We were there alongside just two other people on a Thursday night. No wonder it wasn't buzzing with these prices. Moved on to a pub nearby that was (and was significantly cheaper). Won't be going back.

We wondered around many other places and decided for this places because of the initial kindness of the waitress when we where passing by and had a question. Went back for lunch and had a great lentil soup, salmon with salad and green juice. We decided to go back the next day, as we wanted something different from the regular pizza, hamburgers and such offered around. It did not disappoint, great place, very small and wonderful views of the castle

This was my first time here, and It was very good! My only complaints were that the drinks came a while before the food & that the small breakfast egg was quite greasy. The food tasted great though & the presentation was lovely. The tables were cleared efficiently as customers left & it was overall a rather peaceful atmosphere. Would recommend.
