Staff seemed pleasant but inexperienced. I ordered a cheese and onion sandwich to the tune of £7.50. The sandwich came with no butter, extremely dried out sourdough bread and some onion. I tried to add Mayo but nothing could save it. It was absolutely inedible. I'm not minted so losing money like that hurts. I made sure to tell a staff member how bad it was when I left and he did offer some cake or tea. At least he had some standards but whoever made the sandwich really didn't.

Tea had blobs of fat floating on the top .Sandwich arrived, cheese and tomato toastie had bacon on bottom and clearly the grill hadn't been washed as it tasted of old burnt cheese . What has happened to this place?? It used to be great and the menu was good too. They recently changed their menu … and not for the better! Just pizza n chips n stuff. Service has gone way downhill and today our experience was just dreadful. We ordered two spinach and feta filo parcels and they were microwaved and floppy (not crispy) but worst of all they were stale and tasteless. Simply inedible. We having been going there regularly for years but I’m afraid that’s it. We’ll try other places nearby from now on. Whoever owns or manages this place needs to sit up and take note. Sad.

We had such an awful experience here. It didn't help that it rained and the only available tables under the trees were covered in bird poo so clearly not regularly cleaned. I ordered a cheese and onion toasty which came out with bacon in it. I told the waitress I was vegetarian and didnt order bacon and she took it away and returned quite quickly with what looked like the same toasty but with the bacon removed. She assured me it had been changed. I then went to take a bite and saw a small piece of bacon on top and the crust had bacon melted into it, yuk! I took it straight back and she got me another one and said sorry but she should have refunded me. I've been a vegetarian for 30 years and never has a restaurant so blatantly picked meat off something, just unforgiveable and the staff need some serious training. The cake with strawberries and cream was so bland, and the rocky road was so gooey it didn't seem cooked, my kids wouldn't eat it and I couldn't stomach it either. Really disappointing as the location is lovely.

Grubby, dingy, everything looks very old and tired, soft serve machine broken, magnums out of stock, apathetic staff couldn’t care less, no umbrellas out on a scorching day, the only shade was tables under a tree covered in bird poo and ketchup, the accessible toilet now ‘maintained’ by the cafe stank, no loo roll, filthy floor, filthy sink, had to use it because my little boy was desperate but it would have been cleaner to just go in a bush! Whoever owns it has no love for this cafe and frankly they don’t deserve it.

On entering the first thing you notice is the amount of flies! The second is the attitude of the woman behind the counter. Not exactly customer friendly. An Americano coffee that one could hardly taste. Thankfully the toasted sandwich wasn't too bad. It that which has rescued it from being classified as terrible. There were a party of us for a Birthday including 2 children, the room was nicely decorated in Alice in Wonderland. Were were asked what we would like to drink, they arrived one by on? We were having afternoon tea. The tiers of food were brought out each one covererd 2 people. They looked great. The sandwiches were Salmon and cream Cheese, Cucumber, Ham and Mustard and Beef and Chilli jam. Not too everybodys taste. The scones were fruit no plain, jam and cream. the cream which wasn't overly nice and the scones tasted odd, not sure how else to describe them The carrot cake I enjoyed but not the rest. A dog kept wandering in the toilet was through the room and they wanted us to keep the outside door ajar because the fire was alight.

An unforgettable experience! It a shame as we remember it been such a nice place. It all started with the worst 'double shot' cappuccino, clearly a homeopathic version, as it only contained the "spirit' of the coffee grains. How to describe the incredible guacamole taste! with that acidic kick of the fresh and artificially composed avocado sauce with some sad tortillas, commonly called Doritos.. nothing else...! lost in a big takeaway box. The tuna 'mayo' paté involved in the panini would have been a delight for my dear cat. Sadly she was at home so no one could actually enjoy the delicacy. An extremely overpriced disappointment.

Honestamente, me habría ido si no hubiera ordenado y pagado.

I was with a friend and three small children. Queued for quite a long time to order which is difficult with little ones - made quite a simple order (chilli com carne, chips and a sausage roll) but waited around an hour to be served! And when we finally got my food, my friend’s chips were still missing and had to chase that up - and the waitress also failed to bring any cutlery! When the waitress came back with my friend’s chips, my friend (who had a baby on her knee) asked for salt and vinegar and she told her she had to go in and get it herself! Some other friends joined us and when their food was ready, the waitress came out and shouted the number in the other garden and we therefore didn’t hear it. Someone told us and our friend went to try and find the waitress who had gone back inside. The waitress then came out and in a very accusational tone said ‘I was shouting and shouting’ as if it was our fault! (Why couldn’t she just come into the left garden so we could hear and see her?!). Later, when we were about to leave, my kids started playing with the chain curtain over the door to the left hand side of the cafe. At that point a waitress who was sitting at a table shouted at my kids ‘You can’t come in here!’ The whole attitude was terrible and the staff were in utter chaos and some were frankly rude and totally clueless about the needs of people with small children. I literally cannot understand why such a simple order should take one hour. I will certainly not be going there again.

We had bought coffees and drinks for our kids and so "paid" money to have the privilege of sitting in the cafe - which is small and always crowded and full of people with dogs who don't seem to like children. My daughter is autistic and has a very restrictive diet which was why we had brought her crisps with us for her to eat. I will never go in here again after the rudeness shown by the staff. Gets busy at the weekend by 11am - so go earlier and get a seat

It's a "caff". A good one. In fact the food has gentrified a bit recently but without messing up the simple-honest-cafe atmosphere. On my last visit I had the bacon sandwich on brown bread. It was a chunky beast that sustained me for the while afternoon! I recommend it.

Been coming here for years. Veggie breakfast, cheese on toast, sandwiches and jackets are all well cooked and great value. Good coffee and traditional tea with extra hot water. Decor is a bit 60s retro but people sit outside and enjoy the great setting, even in winter. Can be a bit of a queue at peak time and feel quite crowded so choose your time. Dog friendly with bowls of water outside and allowed in one part of the cafe ("paws on the floor" rule). Feels funky and homely.

The decor is fairly basic but we always visit when its a nice day for a walk and sit outside which is very pleasant. The food is always good and the cafe is dog friendly which is great for walkers. Personally I'd recommend the Welsh rarebit or their sandwiches which are always generously filled and on nice bread

Stanmer Park is very English- it is set in beautiful grounds and the tea house is quite grand. The scones were freshly baked when we arrived and came with decadent clotted cream and very nice jam. The almond croissants are also very nice.

Where do I start? The setting upon entering is beautiful unfortunately it is seriously let down by a very basic cafe, with uncleared messy tables all around, ridiculously overpriced food of very basic quality worthy of a roadside cafe. I was shocked at the single cube of sugar in the sorry looking bowl (when we actually found the sugar) Understaffed, and the staff who are there look dazed and uninterested - you almost feel sorry for them. Does not live up to its opulent surroundings in any way at all. Avoid.

Perfect location in Stanmer Park. Decor is miserable but could have such potential. Just lots of signs on the walls saying what you are not allowed to do. No dogs on table, no muddy shoes on the floor, no using the toilets which apparently are for staff only. Customers have to cross the street and use the public toilet! The last sign was bright yellow reminding you that you are being watched by 6 cctv cameras. Everything shouts out that customers are an inconvenience to the staff. Nice little building which could be wonderful if run by someone who wants to run a tearoom.

Since it's no longer possible to get a breakfast at The Grand "Proud Stanmer House" during the week at least.....it was breakfast at "Stanmer Park Tea Rooms" this morning, £6.95 for a Full English with a hot drink. This is just round the corner from the main house.

Stopped off after a lovely walk on a gorgeous day. Great location but food disappointing. Cappuccino was out of a machine and shortbread a little stale and dry. Staff friendly.

I love to come here on sundays after walking my dog for a few hours and having a breakfast and coffee, It can be very busy but thats what gives it the charm. The cakes are also amazing another plus for me is you can bring your dog in with you when its raining.

Friendly, personable staff - felt very welcome. Nice quality food and a cozy atmosphere. Stanmer Village is quaint and charming and the tearoom bustling with locals and walkers.

Mean overpriced portions and disgusting toilets. As the "only shop on the block", this establishment clearly feels that it doesn't need to try. My partner and I have been coming here for years at the end of each walk in Stanmer Park.

I have visited here a few times as it is very handy, and the food isn't bad, but the managers attitude certainly is. All she need to is approach people with a smile rather than a scowl and a telling off one would only expect from an 19th Century school teacher!!!

Good selection of home made cakes, but value for money is a little poor. But with plenty of seating it's a good quick stop spot.

We prebooked a table for afternoon tea yet our arrival seemed to take the staff by surprise. Literally our waiter had no idea we were sitting down for afternoon tea.

A very good cup of tea and delicious homemade cakes, dogs are very welcome inside and out. It can get quite busy but it is worth the wait.

We had lunch today in the Library at Stanmer park. Lovely surroundings and a very relaxed atmosphere. Staff were friendly and very professional. We had the asparagus with egg and the mushroom burger. They were both beautifully presented and very good. The coffee was excellent. Very good value to.

I have used the cafe on this site on and off for about 15 years. Whilst never really keeping track of owners and not so often visited in recent years due to changes in my job, I have been twice recently. It's present standard is very good.

I use this tearoom lots and although its not cheap (thanks probably to all the rates being hiked by the council!!) its cheaper than the café in Stamner House and its a welcome stop all the year round when walking my dog. Love their leek and potato soup and farmers breakfast, and their mugs of tea or coffee are always hot. You can even buy a small bag of dog biscuits for your pet and there is ALWAYS lots of containers of water too. What a shame some reviewers are getting Stamner House café and this well established tea room confused?? this place is around the back by the stables and cow sheds, NOT next to the big house !!!! YES especially on a good weekends, and school holidays you may have to queue but don't you always for popular places ??

We spent about 3 hours walking around Stammer Park and we needed to have something to eat for lunch. We first visited Stammer House but they only serve hot food and it was an expensive option so we walked onto the Tea Rooms. It is about 5/10 mins away. The menu choice was very good - a good choice of sandwiches or hot foods and the prices were more appropriate for lunch. The service was excellent.

I'm sorry I have to leave this feedback but I hope it gonna help to improve your kitchen work.Since I saw a new menu with loyalty card I wanted to try a few dishes.First was smoked salmon and eggs and the taste was very poor. Had a few bits.Today I tried my luck with Full English. Ahhh...The eggs were raw, bens cold, mushroom watery and uncooked. Presentation worse than in a builders cafe where you can close your eyes on it as food really tastes good and costs £5. So for £11 I ate bread and 2 bacon slices + small sousage which was the only thing which tasted good.No mayo at all, all other sauces empty - 5 bottles available, all empty...Thank God coffee tastes good.Really disappointed guys.

Consiglio

I'm very happy when visiting the FCB. A great team led by Neville, that always makes you feel happy when visiting them. They make the best coffee and have a great selection of quality pastries to accompany it.
