Standard Balti House in Tower Hamlets

This was my first visit to Brick Lane and I was really looking forward to having a quality authentic curry ... I was severely disappointed with Standard Balti House... I went with my brother & his wife ..... The starter was ok, but the main Chicken Korma with Aloo Gobi was barely warm when it arrived ... Besides that the chicken in the Korma was not seasoned at all and it looked like chunks of chicken had been put into a Korma sauce ... Very little taste to the curry at all .. I had to ask for the waiter to take the dishes back to heat them up ....I would not recommend this restaurant ...

Ahmed was amazing and recommended an amazing dish that we all loved. Definitely coming back!

My first time visiting here with family. I really enjoyed my meal. Food was tasty and flavour with just the right amount of spice. Good portions. The atmosphere was great and the service was impressive. Standard Balti House but not standard at all! 🌟

Full Desi Vibes, menu was amazing. Had sag paneer,chana masala,brinjal bhaji, awesome taste and the whole staff was friendly. Cheers highly recomended.

Wow I can't believe that this place is rated this highly. Maybe London doesn't have decent Indian food, because if this place is rated 4.6, wow. We had tikka masala and garlic naan and onion bhagi. The tikka was horrible. It seriously tasted like Campbell's soup with 7 small pieces of chicken in it. Completely tasteless. Zero spice, not heat, spice. Do they not know what Indian spices are? The naan was dry and tasteless, and we had garlic naan. Zero garlic flavour at all. The onion bhajee dish was also tasteless and greazy. If I wasn't so upset at having to eat such horrible food I would be laughing at the fact they had a sign saying the chef had received some top award! Please stay away in fact leave this area as fast as you can and go eat some other cuisine in London. I have a feeling they are all terrible and no one knows what Indian food is who are rating these places...

Of the cuff decision walking past this restaurant. Decided to pop in and have a meal. A warm and friendly welcome the atmosphere is amazing. The food was amazing and full of flavours. Both Ahmed and Rahul were amazing !!! 5 stars is not enough !!

I have had the pleasure in working in the Brick Lane area for a number of weeks, and my colleagues & I have eaten at The Standard several times. The staff have always been polite and courteous, and above generous. The food is excellent. I would happily recommend this restaurant, and I look forward to returning again soon.

We were naively enticed into their £18 per person meal offer by a pushy employee outside. Restaurant was mostly empty on a Saturday night which says it all. Service when we got in was non existent. Starters came out almost too quickly and then followed by a 40 minute wait for mains. Curry’s were tasteless, lacked sauce and naan was dry and tasted reheated. Avoid this place - plenty of better options nearby.

First time at this restaurant and was not disappointed. Food was delicious, lovely calm ambience in the restaurant, great prices and looked after by the lovely Ahmed who showed real interest in his customers experience. The Baileys on the house at the end was a nice addition also. Would definitely recommend and return again.

This meal was disappointing. I hope the restaurant does more to deliver a better dining experience in the future. The appetizer portions were extremely small and tasted like they were cooked from frozen, and the naan was lukewarm by the time it was brought it to us. Also, the server was quite rude and was visibly frustrated when we didn’t personally hand him our dishes from the other side of the table, instead of him simply walking around to pick them up. We got the Balti specialty dishes and they were extremely mid - the lamb was very dry and the sauce was not well balanced. We were haggled into coming in and I wish we had stuck to our plans rather than let ourselves be argued into posting up here. It was basically empty and we should have taken that as a sign. When the appetizers were brought out with a very campy salad and flavorless sauces, we should have paid and left. Come here if you’re fine with less than average or a good deal (which we did get, I will give them that). But you get what you pay for. You’d be better off at a busier restaurant on Brick Lane.

I visited with the family for a curry, my brother in law booked using the taste card, so the family meal was an absolute bargain! I was sad that the crab puri was not available, but I enjoyed the prawn puri immensely. I also had bombay aloo, a chapati, mushroom rice and a chicken bhuna, and it was all delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a traditional Brick Lane indian.

**Standard Balti House Review** I recently visited Standard Balti House and, unfortunately, had a disappointing experience. The service, particularly by a staff member named Ahamed, was very unsatisfactory. It was clear that he treated Indian and white customers differently, which made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. The food was just okay, not meeting our expectations overall. However, we did enjoy the Lamb Sali and Lamb Vindaloo, which were quite tasty. Given the poor service and only average food, I would not recommend Standard Balti House. There are many other Indian restaurants that offer better service and more consistent quality.

After eating at this restaurant, my friend unfortunately suffered from food poisoning. Initially, I intended to write a review about the lacklustre service and mediocre food, but these issues pale in comparison to falling ill. I rarely give a one-star review to a restaurant, but our experience was truly disappointing, and as a result, I would never visit this place again. I suggest you steer clear of this one.
