I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the pub the atmosphere was so good & friendly & helpful and l had Alfie the dog 🐕 with me whilst I was there and there were all friendly people who were good to him

No food served, but staff and patrons friendly and fun

Called in Friday evening for a pint with the kids and dog. All was welcome until 9pm. Great selection of beers 🍻 Nice beer garden around the back too.

Went for a family meal as now advertising food available, told that they are not serving food still. We had a drink, upon leaving I went to the bathroom and cut my hand open on the bathroom door that was broken. A warning sign would of been nice. Definitely won't be going back till the manager changes things or sorts it out.

The food was fantastic! There is a great selection of tapas dishes, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be returning would highly recommend to anyone.

I'm writing this on behalf of a family member who along with 3 friends ate here recently. Unfortunately the experience wasn't a good one which doesn't surprise me as I have had a bad experience here before. According to her there were only 2 options for them on the menu. Steak or Tapas. One of the dishes arrived cold and when this was brought to the attention of the staff, they were told that it was hot when it left the kitchen. Not the sort of customer friendly response you would expect. Also one of the Tapas dishes was completely forgotten about. I'm really struggling to understand how people are giving this place good reviews. Maybe they are getting lucky with the staff on the night and maybe we aren't.

We had our wedding reception there yesterday. The service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. And the food was to die for.

Went here 3 years ago with family for my sobs 40th, not good, poor menu choice, service and food was cold, no coffee!! So thought it was worth another go with a few friends. Nothing has changed!! Poor menu choice, if you don't like steak or tapas don't bother, food not hot, still no coffee!!

We were served delicious tapas and cocktails in the beer garden today. The staff were friendly and welcoming ensuring Covid protocols were followed. We will definitely go back again.

Such a lovely beer garden with attentive service and excellent food, personally I'm a big fan of tapas but get bored seeing the same things in different places but not here, the menu well thought out with your classics but with a slight twist which brings the best out of the ingredients used. Highly recommend you visit whilst in lovely Pocklington

Ate here with my son and daughter and the food was really good. Not very busy but the atmosphere was very comfortable. Nice pleasant staff in particular Gethin who was very attentive and on the ball with everything. Lovely place will definitely return

Really good sunday lunch and a relaxing place to eat and drink

We had a lovely meal here last night. The new menu is not too long but there is plenty of choice. I had the haddock and leek fishcakes to start. They were beautifully cooked tasty and only £3.95. I then had a half rack of ribs which were very tender served beautifully again with chips coleslaw and corn and again very reasonable. The decor is very good with a lovely log burning stove. Finally the staff were very good. Attentive but not over the top and friendly in a genuine way. Do give it a try.

Great food here atmosphere was really nice worth a try. The roast beef dinner was great as were the bbq chicken wings!

We went here for dinner to try out the relaunch with the new menu. We started with a selection of tapas which was all delicious. My husband and my Dad had the baby back ribs. They both love baby back ribs and these ones were one of the best they’ve ever had, really tender and again delicious. The service was excellent, will certainly recommend here and will definitely be going again.

Pretty good! We’ve been here a fair few times since it opened, and it’s usually really good. However, we’ve had the occasional visit where it’s just not been *quite* there, which is a shame as we always tell people how much we enjoy visiting. Nothing worth complaining about - just a little bit lower than their usual really high standards. Back on the plus side, they’re possibly the place to visit for the best Sunday lunch in Pocklington, and some of the steaks from here would be hard to beat in any other venue!

Me and my partner went as we were staying 5 minutes away for a weekend trip. The food was amazing, especially the steak. The waiter was friendly and welcoming when you arrived and the service was great. Would definitely recommend to any visiting

We booked a table for fairly early in the evening but were surprised to be almost the only people in the restaurant. We were later joined by another couple of tables but it was far from busy. The service was ok, but the waiter a little meek and mild. Starters and main courses were ok but nothing special. For dessert several of our party ordered the pana cotta and were surprised when it arrived still in a pot, rather than turned out on a plate. Unfortunately the pana cotta was inedible as the gelatin had solidified in the pot. We asked the waiter to check if it was supposed to be like this. Chef said yes it was. We checked again and insisted chef actually see the dessert. We then got the dessert credited from our bill. I would not say this restaurant is worth the prices it charges, it is a bit too mediocre for that.

Lovely place and nice staff but disappointing meal. Only ordered a simple sausage and mash - but for £12, it's a large plate with small amount of potato, 3 little sausages, and very greasy gravy. No veg. Not even a token amount. The Pipe and Glass (michelin star restaurant nearby) serves incredible sausage and mash for only £1 more, so Stamford's could really do with revisiting the charge or content of this meal.

Situated just off the square on Union St , we had our first meal here and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We both had fillet steak with peppercorn sauce and were impressed with the meal in every way. We could nor fault it, The surroundings were very comfortbale and it was cosy with the log fires lit. Staff are friendly and efficient and even the chef stopped to ask if everything was ok. We will defintely be back .

Away with work and tired of hotel food, stumbled upon stamfords and had a very pleasant surprise, best burger i have had in years! Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

Our 2nd visit to this restaurant ..we were staying at yellow top lodges nearby ...

We booked in for a Sunday lunch as we’d seen they were now serving this. The lady who served us was lovely and attentive, we ordered starters and all agreed that they were delicious, I had the creamy mozzarella and heritage tomatoes, simple but yummy. We all had the roast beef for main and this was super tasty, the roast potatoes were gorgeous and the beef delicious too. We will be back again, such a shame it’s so quiet as we were the only ones in there. Would love to see some more non alcoholic drinks too like cider as well.

The meal was really very good but the service was a little less sharp. They managed to work themselves out of of a 20% tip by their non effective service. Right down to would you like to see the sweat menu? No, just a black coffee. No coffee ever turned up!!!!

Two of us arrived around 8:30pm following a three hour drive. We were both looking forward to a good meal and a couple of drinks upon reaching Pocklington.

Excellent food. We had the Wednesday special as above. Superb, steaks done as requested, properly cooked, the trimmings and a decent bottle of wine. Faultless.

Visited this restaurant on Sunday for family meal, late lunch/early dinner, 6 adults and 2 young children.

Returned to Stamfords, this time for Sunday Lunch with some friends from Canada and once again it was without fault. It was quiet and I can't understand why as everything was really good. Anybody in any doubt this is a genuine revue, get in touch!

My brother and his wife visit Pocklington just once a year and we have very been happy with our dining experience at Stamfords. But this year ....oh dear !! .... I should have read the reviews. What has happened ? Half of our choices were not available, my chicken was pink on the bone, and the meal wasn’t hot. It was very disappointing and way over priced.

Upon looking at reviews at places to eat in Pocklington, we decided to try Stamfords bar & grill, however it begs the question how many of the reviews have been written by members of staff!! We arrived, four adults and two children in to a restaurant which was almost empty on a Sunday afternoon. We were seated at 3 tables that had been pushed together, each table at a different heights and which looked like they had been picked up at a local car boot sale, maybe [shabby chic] We were handed our menus, then promptly informed that a third of the menu was unavailable for one reason or another. From ordering to receiving our main course took two hours. Four of the main courses were served, the fifth we was told it would be a further 10 minutes before it would be ready. Not wishing our food to get cold we began eating.. After all its only 10 minutes!!! Nearly 25 minutes later after four of us had finished our meals the the fifth one was served, leaving one of our party dining alone.

We’d heard good things about this restaurant so decided to visit on Father’s Day.

Rang to book table for 2 was advised could only be fitted in at 630pm or 8pm as you cannot book other times.

A friend had booked a table for six based on a previous visit, and a recommendation from another friend that the vegetarian options were to die for. Imagine the disappointment therefore when the veggie amongst us was told that the options on the menu weren't available, The alternative eventually offered by the chef sounded distinctly unappetising so she settled for a fish dish, which while not outstanding was probably the best choice of all of us. Four of us chose the pork cheek which was hard and overdone. I thought that with my choice of a medium rare sirloin steak I couldn't go wrong, but I was sadly mistaken because it was tough and stringy and at £22.00 decidedly overpriced. We had decided to opt for just a main course and a dessert, but having waited an hour for the main course, which left us all feeling very disappointed, decided to cut our losses and call for the bill. Very disappointed, slow service and poor food. Will not return. Oh just one final point, the restaurant, while advertising wheelchair access has a very steep slope on the ramp!!

We thoroughly enjoyed a very tasty chateaubriand. Quiet Sunday evening but very satisfied with the service and quality of the food.

After having an amazing Sunday lunch here six weeks ago we decided to come back. Unfortunately this visit we were very disappointed. Sunday lunch time and the place was empty for our whole visit, food was mediocre and nothing like the standard we had the last time. Won’t be rushing back!

Upon arrival we asked for a table of two. The waiter quickly replied there would be in 20 minutes. We said we would wait, then we returned and he looked surprised and then asked his colleague if there was a spare table(there had been this whole time we think) we sat down and within 5 minutes he asked what food we wanted.. but he hadn’t brought over the drinks menu. It seemed they were rushing us. (As it was about 8.30 at this point) I wanted a ribeye steak and he said they had sold out. He didn’t say if there were any alternatives (seen as it was steak night) all over just uncomfortable and unpleasant experience so we just ordered drinks and left. Going hungry..

We had 2 fabulous steaks with all the trimmings

Due to a change in circumstance we needed to find somewhere to eat for 5 of us on New years Eve. I rang and was told yes, it was possible to eat there but they were aiming to close by 8.30pm so would 6.30 be ok as alarge party were due at 7, which was fine as 2 of our party were "seniors" who don't eat late. We arrived and were not rushed to order, we sat and had drinks in the bar first and got to the table for 7 . As usual the meal was tasty and some of the specials were a real treat. The only failing was my steak but much apologies were given and it was removed from the bill. I should say we regularly come to the steak evenings so i know this was the exception not the rule! WE had a lovely evening and look forward to our next meal there - thank you team.

A friendly, informal and comfortable restaurant, tastefully decorated in a fresh, modern style. The menu was interesting, catering for a wide range of tastes. Well-used by local people, which speaks volumes about how much the place is valued as part of the local dining scene. We used the restaurant several times and regarded it as a reliable place for excellent food. Highly recommended.

As my title says, it was without fault. Even the most demanding customer could not find fault with this place. The food, the staff and the venue were excellent. We ate there on 13/11/18 and the chef, for that nigh, deserves the highest praise. My venison was probably the best I have tasted - and I have eaten this in many different establishment and everyone else's meal was equally good. The waitress showed the utmost patience with our group as we insisted on talking instead of ordering. Even when we were the only people left in the place they showed no irritation or haste to get us out. Thank you for an enjoyable meal and a very enjoyable evening.

I visited Stamford's on Saturday 27th with my family to celebrate my 40th Birthday. I have been a few times before the last time a year ago and my parents have been too so my Mum booked a table for 6 of us at 8pm. I'm not sure what has happened, whether it was a one off bad night or something but it was so bad it was almost funny.

This is a great little restaurant ! Friendly staff and even got to speak to the chef. We had my three year old goddaughter with us and was offered the choice in the main restaurant or private area. So we chose the private area so she had more room . I had the fillet steak which melted in the mouth asked for a side of veg which wasn’t on the menu but when asked if I could have some they were more than obliging and received creamy leek and bacon which was delicious. Chose sticky toffee pudding and the dark chocolate dessert which is made in house. I have eaten is some lovely /expensive 5 star restaurants in London and Stanford’s is just as good.

We eat her regularly when we are staying in Pocklington (about 8-10 visits a month to see a family member) and we have never been disappointed. I work in London and eat out a great deal and this is one of my favourites. From Louis to Ian the chef to all the staff, there’s a warm, relaxed ‘hosting’ atmosphere in keeping with the market town and a strong menu of diverse local food, based on heritage but with clever interpretations.

Had a most enjoyable dinner with friends. Menu and cooking is modern, if you want your meat cremated this is not the place. Sharing platter for starters is a good option. Attentive staff and pleasant atmosphere.

Food was awful. It was wonderful when first opened. The staff were lovely and changed my food. It's a lovely place and I always used to enjoy and look forward to eating at Stamford. I wish you would stop trying to be fancy with your dishes and just stick to what you set out to be , quality, locally sourced food that is tasty. By the way, it is not acceptable to serve a chunk of cauliflower and call it a steak and serve with more cauliflower!

Our previous experiences here had been good - a bit pricey, but the food was good and the service better so we decided to go back here with our friends ... however .. as the saying goes ... "what a difference a year makes" .. the service was at best poor and the food average.

We stayed at stamfords for a night whilst visiting York on business. The food was really good and the service was very professional. We had a special fish tasting menu put together especially for us. It was perfect. We asked to meet the chef who was extremely friendly and greatful for our well wishes.

There was a warm welcome for our party of four, we sat and had a drink in the bar and made our choices regarding the food. The young man who served us made some suggestions and upon his recommendation two of us chose the Scotch Egg starter, another the Crispy Monkfish the fourth abstaining. We were shown to the table and after a couple of minutes our waiter came back and told us there was only one Scotch Egg left so I went for the Monkfish. Lesson 1. Check on availability before you recommend something. The friend who had the Scotch Egg said it was very nice the Monkfish was tasty but the portions were tiny. For mains two of our party went for the Pock Reuben, both were satisfied with the taste and the portion size, one went for the Stamford Salad with Salmon it was tasty but there wasn't much of it. I went for the Rib-eye and asked for it to be cooked medium as it should be because of the fat marbling content, it came on the rare side of medium which was ok but the steak was extremely fatty so I had to leave a good chunk of it. I mentioned the quality of the steak to the waiter, he apologised and then told me they'd had a number of complaints about their steaks. Lesson 2. If people complain about the meat it's time to change your supplier. We only had two puddings, the Chocolate Torte which my friend said was the best part of the meal, and the Cheese Board. Usually with cheese the server goes through the cheeses with you and explains what they are, this didn't happen maybe because the cheeses were nothing special. We were debating on a coffee but decided against it much to the relief of the waiter as he then told us the coffee machine wasn't working so it would've had to be instant. Stamfords could be a decent little restaurant but it needs a bit of work to sort out the niggles and be more relaxed on portion control. A reduction in the price for the poor quality of the steak would've been nice and I also noticed whilst looking at the bill during this review was the fact we were charged for the original two Scotch Eggs and not two Monkfish. the Eggs are more expensive.

A vain attempt at haute cuisine. It failed. Vaguely warm dishes served on cold plates. The mushroom soup was good. The rump of lamb came out raw in the middle (perhaps the kitchen porter tried to cook it?) The monkfish, ordered as a main course arrived as three pieces, breaded looking like three scampi, which was plainly taking the fish. Belly of pork had had the rind removed and that had been separately deep fried.

Was expecting lot more from photos, place was lovely, staff were good, bread for table was particularly lovely, starters were ok runny scotch egg was meant to have black pudding crumb but didn’t, partner had monk fish which was ok.

We visited this place the day before a large wedding. Staff were attentive, and my food was nice enough. They have some good gin on offer too. As we were a large party (30+) over 4 tables, the food came out per item order. This was then served across various tables as it came out, which resulted in people at our table receiving their food after we had finished. Which is never great when you’re out to eat together. Maybe next time it would better to serve a table at a time.

this place would have got 5 stars from us if it wasnt for the missing items from the menu - it's great to finally have somewhere decent to go in Pocklington! however I was disappointed to hear that, during our visit at 7pm, they had run out of the scotch egg, the lamb ribs and, bizzarely enough, skinny fries. I asked the waitress why this was and the reply was that they had sold out, as it had been a busy lunch. There are several very good butchers within walking distance of this restaurant so perhaps they could have sourced the meat from one of those for evening service? It would have been good to have a specials board (Oh and the menu I had was a little grubby which is never a good start) However, I had to say that what we ordered was delicious. The wines were also good. Good value for the quality of food too, we will definately be back but I hope it will be a full menu this time!

We stopped in at Stamford’s for dinner on Friday, it was not our first nor last visit!

4 of us ate here last week and it was superb, the new menu really is something new for the area, very well thought out and well presented. the monkfish starter was spot on, very fresh tasting, the scotch egg as good as usual and the cured sea trout very delicate and refreshing. the mains were excellent also, seabass with beetroot gnocci was tremendous, the lemon sole, light and fresh and very large, belly pork had all the right trimmings and was light, and the lamb rump cooked perfectly.

I can really recommend an evening here. Great menu and friendly staff. We shared the porterhouse steak, which was cooked to perfection. Great choice of sides and sauces.

Fabulous sharing steak dinner. Well cooked, well presented and staff were excellent. Highly recommended! I’ve eaten here before, but it was the first visit with my partner, who was very impressed. The new menu is impressive and prices are reasonable for the quality of food.

I visit this restaurant on a regular basis and whilst the food is good the menu was in need of updating, a new Head Chef is now in place with a new menu, I had the slow roast pork belly and it was excellent, the best meal I have had for a long time, the whole plate of food worked together and complimented the excellent pork, staff are excellent and attentive but not overbearing.

Atmosphere, Staff and food all excellent. We called here quite by chance and hadn't booked. We were advised that the restaurant was fully booked but we could eat in the bar area. The bar area was lovely so this was not a problem. We had fillet steak hanging Kebabs and they were amazing!

I visited this restaurant with an old school friend , we had many memories of pool tables and crisps as the only food source .

Over priced very small portions for price rude staff

Way overpriced for bland boring food and the interior looks straight out of the 90’s. Staff were lack luster and the whole experience was generally....well....sad. Seriously, this place charges more than the incredible streak restaurant I go to in London....how come? Overheads and wages are lower up here and we have the best meat in the world on our beautiful doorstep.... and this place charges top cash for bad food.....AVOID!!

We had my mums 96th birthday meal here we were a party of 7. Lovely layout and decor. We all enjoyed the food and the place was busy. I took in a cake and we had that as desert complete with candles. Would definately return next time we visit.

We attended here on Saturday for my partners birthday meal, the place is a lovely set out and looks welcoming. The gentlemen who served us was polite, but when we had our meal the staff was stood around near our table all having there own conversations and then the man who served us started painting the walls. We found this rude and quite intimidating with them all been stood around. Not somewhere we will be re attending.

Not often that Scotland win the Calcutta Cup and so we accepted an invitation to dinner from some English friends! Never made it to Stamfords before but can heartily recommend it. Friendly, helpful staff who showed some patience as a lot of beer had been taken by some of us.

Stamfords is surprisingly elegant with well thought out decor and furnishings let down by inexperienced and indifferent staff.

I visited with a friend on a Wednesday night. We both had a 3 course meal with steak for the main course, this was cooked for both of us to perfection accompanied with chips, onion rings, mushroom, salad and a sauce of choice. The service was friendly and quick. Would highly recommend and would probably book in advance.

Booked in for New Years Eve at 6.30 in advance. Really loved the feel of this place, although it wasn't too busy the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly and the decor was really lovely. The venue has a restaurant side and a side where you can just get a drink. All the waiting staff seemed happy in their work and this reflected in the service. Portions were not huge but very tasty. £51 for 3 courses and a couple of drinks which we thought was reasonable. Recommended!

Been here a number of times. Cozy decor and excellent food. Friendly and efficient service from the staff. Steaks are their speciality but are pricey. Other food is very good value. Nice place to go to now and again. Not as prominent due to the location but great nonetheless.

Went with friends. They had lost our booking but the manager called Mark showed us to the bar and bought us a drink. By the time we had finished our drinks we had a table. Went for the porterhouse. 52 quid including sides for 2 people. Runny yolk scotch egg was a great starter. Staff very nice. Place was clean with a nice buzz. Had a great evening.
