Mothering Sunday We booked here after seeing the website and sample menus Basically, the sample menu and actual have little similarity The pub is basically not trading No draft beer , lager No sparkling water etc Having come thru the hospitality troubles and lost a business I know how tough it is But be fair on your page state limited options Remain polite, and remember the customer can make an informed decision as we did and left before we ordered as frankly having seen some food going out thought it was not to our taste One last point, decency when addressing customers costs little, an off hand rude attitude in a market where other choices exist is not acceptable Much to be improved

My husband and I made a last minute reservation for dinner one weekend and they couldn’t have been any more accommodating. The two young waiters (brothers I think?) were extremely attentive and provided us with a first class service. The food was also delicious and also a very reasonable price too. 100% recommend this place - we were most impressed! We’ll be sure to pop back very soon!

We recently stayed at The Stag’s Head Inn as we had a wedding nearby. We called the morning of to ask if it would be possible to get changed at the pub first as check in time wasn’t until later, we were happy to just change in the loos if possible - however they went above and beyond and set up a spare room so we had some time to get ready properly - which was amazing after we’d just driven three hours. Gill then kindly set us up in the same room so that we knew where to go once back from the wedding. We had the loveliest breakfast the next morning, and chatted to Gill and learnt a lot more about the area. We have stayed in a few hotels since Covid and unfortunately have felt the customer service just isn’t what it used to be but all faith has been restored by our stay at the Stag’s Head Inn - customer service top notch, friendly staff, amazing setting - couldn’t have been happier with our choice - plus a comfy bed, what more can you ask for!

We booked last minute, covid has really thrown everything up in the air but the lady on the phone was confident and a table was booked for 6.30. We have been a number of times to The Stag it is a little off the beaten track but well worth finding. On arrival two of our party had forgotten their masks ( me included) the bar staff quickly sorted us out and showed us to out table. Drinks were duly ordered and then orders placed. Two of us had the starter of salmon which was wonderful full of flavour and very light the others had the starter of jerusalem artichoke which was equally good. We all had the beef rump with portobello mushroom a salad and thick French fries this was superb and the salad with its sweetness truly enhanced the meal. Unfortunately none of us could manage a desert maybe next time because we will be back. Great atmosphere too and it was good to see others had ventured out, hopefully they enjoyed it as much as we did.

Having studied the lunchtime menu on line my partner and me were extremely dissapointed to find that they only had fairly basic fare on offer for lunch yesterday (burger, ham, egg and chips, fish and chips etc.) but with the current delivery problems that restaurants are experiencing we accepted that this was all that was available, what wasn't acceptable was the childs portion of fish and chips served up for £16. In fairness, the excellent staff did apologise and reduced the bill.

Back in April I booked for a nights stay at the Stags Head on the 16th July. On arrival at the Inn they informed us that they had some bad news, we were told that two lots of people were booked in for that evening with similar names and that our booking had been cancelled. Since then someone had booked via Booking.com and that they had to honour their booking. I do not understand how someone booking after us should have there booking honoured when we had not cancelled and it was there mistake. I also asked why they had not emailed me to let me know earlier, I was told that they emailed me earlier the morning I was expected what use is that when we had to leave early for a long journey. They had booked us in another Inn in the next village and although it was cheaper and they were very nice it was not what we had booked for they also suggested we could come back for dinner but who would want to after such bad customer service. We will be travelling down that way again but I would certainly not attempt to book there in the future.

We went here for Sunday lunch a few weeks ago with friends who are local and had praised the Sunday roasts. Under normal circumstances I would never order a roast, based on poor experiences in the past at other places. But Looking at TA reviews others too praised the roasts and o have to say it was excellent. Between us we had chicken and beef ( I think there was a third option of lamb too) The chicken, which I had, was really succulent and tender and the beef was greatly enjoyed by the other three in our party - rare and melt in the mouth. All in all a very good choice. The dishes came with a wide range of perfectly cooked veg too. Of the puds we chose panna cotta & sticky toffee - no complaints there. Generous portions in everything too. A good choice and we would be very happy to make it a regular Sunday lunch venue - but sadly we live over 100 miles away .

The location is as nice as you would want a country pub to be. The food is prepared with care and it’s of a very high standard. The food is more expensive compared to the other pubs in the area however it’s also significantly nicer and in that represents fantastic value for money. We’re definitely going to become regulars here and we look forward to enjoying your amazing pub , fine company, and delicious food soon.

We moved into the area last November but have only just started going out to eat (covid put the kibosh on eating out for many months!).We decided to try the Stags Head at Tarkington on the eat out to help out ticket so we booked (a week in advance as they were full) and arrived early evening. Already there were several couples eating. We had a drink whilst we studied quite an extensive menu. We decided to pass on starters although the bubble &squeak Minny bites with black garlic ketchup sounded very interesting, maybe next time!I settled for their burger which had everything cheese bacon lettuce etc slaw and triple cooked chips which was full of flavour moist and very filling! My wife had vegetarian risotto which was full of colour and came with cheese croquettes again very filing. My mother in law had fish and chips which case with picked onions chunky chips tartare sauce and proper mushy peas again very filling certainly beat her . We could have chosen a desert but we were too full next time the cheeseboard looks favourite and included the Yarlington blue cheese made across the road!!We are in the restaurant which was great but equally the pub area and on a nice day outside were equally welcoming. Our first visit but it won't be our last !

The Stag's Head is a pretty pub in a pretty location. These days this can be spoilt by the Covid-19 regulations but the owners have maintained the charm and friendliness of the restaurant and the food is really excellent, traditional bar meals. My triple fried chips stayed crispy and the crunchy batter on the cod was very well accompanied by tasty cornichons and tartare sauce, with "real" mushy peas. Delicious locally produced cider made this the perfect pub supper.

Egregious: New owner Gillian Margaret Sarah Gould will cancel your non-refundable booking repeatedly when the Inn is nearly empty - nothing of which to be proud nor is it welcoming as she bills Stag’s Head on their website. Stag's Head was a historic pub good for cozy evenings by the fire. It had good English country pub fare, does no longer. The Stag’s Head has been under Gould’s new ownership since April 2017. She has refurnished the pub stripping it of its historic interiors and named the rooms. One is called ‘The Hadspen’ seemingly to capitalise on The Newt (formerly Hadspen House and recently opened) and the growth of the area. The room has not the furnishings of 18th century aristocracy - more false advertising on Gould’s website. The rooms are overpriced for the area, the food is fine, nothing 'fantastic' as it is billed on their website despite the new chef. Beware: Gould is local, talks of her customers to others, also noted by another reviewer. - Somerset Reviewer

Six of us dined here after reading several good reviews. Unfortunately this wasn’t to be the case. The menu was very limited but we all felt if freshly prepared that would be ok. Three of us chose the fillets of sea bass as a main course, the portion consisted of one fillet only, it was a portion suitable for a starter. Never have I been given one fillet for a main course. If you have anything of an appetite do not choose sea bass. One of our party had a coffee which had that much of the ground coffee in the cup it was awful. There was no atmosphere, we had to ask the waiters to take our order. There were only a few tables occupied for a Saturday night and we can see why. We won’t be returning.

Sunday lunch of a beef, a lamb and 2 pork roasts, and it was all cooked to perfection. We'd heard that The Stags had a new chef so we thought we'd give it a go and see how it compared to before. I can only say that for a family who talks a great deal, we were silent for much of the meal, pausing only to say how nice the meat was or how perfectly the veggies were cooked. The soup they offer is also amazing. Sadly we are unable to comment much upon the desserts because we were all too full, but to show willing we shared a cheesecake between three of us (the fourth just couldn't manage it).

We called in at the Stags Head for lunch on a hot day. I am a vegetarian and neither of the vegetarian mains appealed, so i asked if i could have a larger portion of the vegetarian starter (beetroot carpaccio) as a main course. When it arrived i thought they must have made a mistake and served me a starter portion. I queried it and was told that no, this was the main course size. On the plate were 4 quarters of cooked beetroot, a number of thin slices of raw beetroot, a spoonful of goats cheese curd, a scatter of walnut crumbs and a few dabs of puree. It all tasted lovely and i would happily have paid £10 given that the starter was priced at £7.50.

The Stag's Head gets a justifiably good rating as a restaurant (as I elaborate below); as a place to stay, it is less good. So, a - perhaps harsh - verdict might be: 'eat, don't stay'. Or, perhaps, the restaurant is the finished article, the accommodation is work-in-progress. We booked to stay for 2 nights in Dec. Getting there, late on a wet mid-winter afternoon, was a bit tricky, on narrow winding country lanes, with some unforeseen no-entries close by. Having got there,a little ahead of our 4pm scheduled arrival, we found the place closed (no sign of life). We sat in the car park for a bit, then I managed to rouse the chef, who was, I think, having his afternoon siesta (and why not?). He was very helpful, let us in, and made us a cup of coffee. The manager (who had been clearly told we would arrive by 4pm) finally turned up at 5pm, apologising for her mistake. I think she said she would then give us a bigger room. Trouble was, the room was very chilly (61 degrees F). When we got there (gone 5pm) we turned the central heating up to max., which seemed to have a sadly slow effect: in fact, the temp. rose rose by 2 degrees an hour so, by 8pm, when we went down to dinner, it had struggled up to 67F. Just about bearable (I was under the bedcovers by then). At least things then looked up. The dining room was, at least warm; and the food was good (the TA reports are correct on that score. Let's hear it for the chef). At least by bedtime the room had become habitable and thereafter the temp. remained fine. One other wrinkle: we asked if we could have a hair dryer (possibly it was not part of the original room particulars); when it came, I switched it on and smoke began to curl from the nozzle. To be fair, the manager collected the offending article and, next day, came back with a brand new one.Indeed, Thereafter, our stay was fine. The breakfast was very good (especially the excellent porridge), as was the dinner. Very good cheese board - small but select bits of local cheeses, not slabs of mousetrap and dollops of gooey camembert. Very good sirloin steak and decent pint, too. Once warmed up, the room was pleasant (if done out in a a rather bland combination of greys, with a new but rather rickety bedside table); so we enjoyed our stay. Perhaps the fairest conclusion would be that the restaurant is well worth a visit (as TA shows) and the accommodation is work in progress. We would certainly go back (and check out this assumption). The 4 star rating is, I should clarify, a compromise between the two experiences (3 + 5 = 4).

I knew that there was a pub in the village and decided to drop by just for a drink..the newish landlords are extremely friendly and we ended up just having some light snacks at the bar. The menu is excellent with a good choice, beers well cared for and the wine selection should cover most tastes. Good car parking opposite and rooms are now available. Although tucked away its easy to reach from A303 and Castle Carey, Glasto, Yeovil and Wincanton all in easy reach. More emphasis now on it being a bar as well as a restaurant where the previous management rather treated bar as a waiting room for diners. Definitely one to add to the little black book and return to.

Found this little gem of a pub whilst camping in the area near Sourhead Estate. The staff without exception were incredibly polite, welcoming and professional, and the owners both excellent hosts. On a Friday night the restaurant was full with a 50 cover private party so we ate in the bar. Even with such a large party next door thanks to prior planning and a great team, our service was still fantastic.

Visited on the off chance a month ago, and had a very good pub lunch, which on the strength of that alone decided to go back with my family on one occasion and with some friends on another. Atmosphere, welcome and food choice and cost was as good as ever. Ate all three times in the bar area of the pub, but the restaurant looks probably even better for having a leisurely meal. Definitely recommend. Car park I notice is nearly always full - always a good sign.

Me and my friend popped In for lunch on Friday, I arrived slightly earlier and was greeted very friendly by the owner . We sat outside as the weather was nice very lovely garden and nice decor inside . I had the goats cheese salad which was beautifully presented and my friend had the burger which again was lovely . Very friendly staff who were very warm and welcoming !! The only reason I didn’t give this 5 marks is I think there should be more sandwiches on the menu I work in a very similar inn and although the menu was well thought out and not to badly priced there were only 2 sandwiches which is fine but a lovely pub like that I’m sure you get a lot of requests for sandwiches . The owner was lovely and very helpful would definitely go back with my husband one day for a meal

We had thought of going to the White Horse in Cheriton nearby where we were staying overnight at 12 Landseer Cheriton with Airbnb but our hosts recommended we take a 10 minute drive to the Stags Head Inn in Yarlington as they’d eaten there themselves and said it would be “memorable”. They kindly phoned to book us a table even though it was a Monday night. Yarlington is way down a long winding narrow hedge-lined lane, seemingly in the middle of nowhere, but in fact not far from Castle Cary. It’s a tiny tucked-away idyllic village....well there probably aren’t more than 20 houses in total, a few farms, an old red telephone box containing a defibrillator, a postbox and the Stags Head Inn. It’s calm, serene, gloriously quiet. All you can hear is the birdsong. We were warmly welcomed by the landlord’s wife, I suppose the innkeeper’s wife to be exact, a friendly, chatty, cheerful lady who overflows with her enthusiasm for her job, the Inn, the food and drink they serve. We sat in the garden at the rear, a beautifully lawned area with neat borders, a million light years from the hustle and bustle of our Tonbridge home in Kent. I ordered the mixed cold meat platter with crostini and chicken skin butter and onion relish. Superb! My main was locally made sausages with mashed potatoes and spring greens. Now I’m no world renowned expert on sausages but when I get really delicious ones, I know it, and these were simply incredible! My wife had char-grilled asparagus with crispy-coated duck egg and Parmesan followed by the day’s special, chicken breast with bubble & squeak. Now she’s now t generally a woman of superlatives but she did say it was the best meal out she can remember. With 2 Corona lagers, the bill came to a tad under £50 which was cheap for the quality, presentation and service, not to say the beautiful setting. So thank you to our hosts Bruce & Sheila for pointing us in the right direction for the evening, thank you to the Stags Head Inn for a really memorable meal with our praise to the inn’s sous chef who created such beautiful food ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️➕. This place and the food made our stopover night one to really remember. Pub food can often be overpriced, preprepared, mass-produced stuff that’s just microwaved and served up as home-cooked. If you want the REAL THING, make your way to the tiny micro-village of Yarlington in Somerset for a real treat.

This was a wedding anniversary meal for four of us. The meal was excellent, could'nt fault anything, very tasty, cooked very well and presented very well. The staff very very good. The restaurant itself is very tastefully decorated. Enjoyed everything will be back again and would say to anyone, pay them a visit, you won't be dissapointed and I am fussy. Some reviews have mention lack of atmosphere, not for us, we made our own, lol.

We heard that yarlington had a great pub and restaurant but I wasn’t convinced until I actually arrived into this very cosy dining room on a Saturday evening in this beautiful small village. The staff and owners are particularly warm and welcoming. I expected good pub food but this was way beyond my expectations. The food is really excellent so hats off to the owners and chef. We will certainly be back as didn’t have time for dessert!

Food was excellent. Friendly staff and service. Only downside was lack of others in the restaurant. It is off the beaten track but worth the visit. We will recommend to others and return.

6 of us had The Sunday lunch menu today. Plenty of options for starters, mains & desserts. No complaints at all from those of us who had the lamb, chicken & pork roast mains. Starters included asparagus, smoked salmon and the soup whilst desserts included sorbets, chocolate tart, bread & butter pudding & figgy pudding. 6 times 3 courses & all cleaned plates! Very good value. New owners have already brightened the whole place up & have ideas for the future. Recommend.

We popped in on a Saturday lunchtime, probably shortly after half twelve. It was a wet day so it was not too busy. I was brought up in Yarlington 30 years ago, which led to an interesting conversation with the new people about how things have changed. We started with the pigeon, and followed with the gammon egg & chips. The pigeon was a lovely starter, but filled us much so we could not finish the main course! Everything very clean and tidy, we will be in again soon

New landlord taken over from this what was a very popular eating establishment, usually full of diners but today only six people in restaurant. The room was cold and although our waitress was friendly no one else staff wise was welcoming and the atmosphere was cold and unfriendly compared to what it had always been. Food hot and tasty but no pasta dishes.toilets were freezing cold and no hot water to wash hands.

Came here Saturday night with a group of 5. All had mains and desserts. Everyone said how delicious their meal was. Tasty, well seasoned and well presented. A bit chilly in the restaurant but we were informed there was an issue with the fire that would shortly be resolved. All in all lovely meal, great service and pleasant ambience. Would definitely recommend and revisit.

All required components of a classic British country pub are to be found at the stags head inn! Welcoming new hosts, attentive staff, crackling fires, good range of well kept beers and reasonably priced wine list, menu ranging from pub classics to fish and a couple of interesting specials. I had the venison faggots with mash and red cabbage which were fantastic, as was the beetroot starter and local cheeseboard - enough to share BTW.

I enjoyed a delicious fish and chips and sticky date pudding for a "light lunch". My friends had the venison faggots which were similarly superb. The bar and waiting staff were friendly and the beer excellent. The menu is varied and refreshingly not encyclopaedic and is both obviously very fresh and local. The pub and restaurant are highly recommended and I will return. Well done the new owners.

After hearing nothing good locally (mostly from people who haven't actually visited) about the Stags Head we went as a foursome for dinner. . Yes it has changed but for the better. The menu is no longer a mile long of 'pub grub',just beautifully prepared and presented food, cooked to order and served by the nicest most professional of waitresses. The only reason I have marked it down a bit is for the coffee which wasn't great (they did offer to take it off the bill), The new coffee machine cannot come soon enough. Definitely be coming back and recommending to the local doubters.

The Stag has to be one of our favourite restaurants. Every time we come here, there is a lovely warm welcome, great ambience and top quality food at very sensible prices. We have never been disappointed in 3 years! Parking can be slightly problematic when the restaurant is busy however, but it's worth it for the experience. The wine list is extensive and not over priced, and the presentation is not at all pretentious and all gussied-up like so many restaurants which aspire to call it fine dining. This is great food which is lovingly prepared and presented, and is worthy of a top restaurant. Long may they thrive!

Went on a Monday lunchtime, and were treated with incredibly hospitable service and excellent food, despite being one of only two tables on a very quiet wet day.The staff were all lovely, very polite and friendly, but never obtrusive. Even during booking they helpfully advised the best table for my disabled mother and our accompanying dog.Being a quiet day, we weren't expecting too much for the food, but both a set lunch menu and their full a la carte were available. Although from a business sense this seems unnecessary, every single dish we ordered was cooked perfectly, tasted fresh and arrived promptly. Desserts too (again from a choice of over a dozen over both menus) were seriously good. Not just 'pub' good, but very decent restaurant quality. Can imagine when the place is busy and bustling it's a seriously decent place to eat and socialise. We will be back any time we are in the area.

We both were recommended to come here. We are so delighted that we listened to them because the food was absolutely delicious. We both had different meals but we enjoyed trying ours as the quality is superb. We didn’t want to finish my dinner as we enjoyed it so much. We decided to come back again on the following day, while knowing that the food will be definitely appetising and exquisite. The atmosphere is also so friendly and staff are so lovely etc. We couldn’t have asked for more! If you happen to be in the area, please do come here! We do highly recommend this place!

Booked for dinner but on arrival, they thought we had booked for buffet, fortunately they had a table for us within a short time so we had a pre-dinner drink in the bar, which is fabulous and then went for a lovely meal in the Bistro, it is a small and intimate restaurant and quite modern and food is served on hot rocks, which you cook yourself to your own taste. Nice concept and food was really lovely BUT find that it gets pretty smoky when it is very busy. This is not a unique concept to us and it was a very nice change. Service was attentive and good and wine selection is great. Little pub at the Langport Arms is friendly and wonderful for pre or post drinks too.

What a delightful place to stay at. We stayed for a couple of nights to visit the surrounding area and had the friendliest welcome and comfortable stay. James, the waiter in the evening, was a credit to them. He helped you choose what to eat and was attentive and friendly. The food was outstanding, especially the fish dishes. The breakfast was the best we have ever had and was cooked to order with local produce. Cannot wait to return.

The chip shop has been closed for a while due to staff going on holiday. Last night we very much enjoyed our chips, chicken and curry sauce.
