St Vincent Arms in East Riding of Yorkshire

As a chef it's difficult sometimes to find somewhere which has beautiful food for great prices. Well this place has it all. It's a traditional setting with a great atmosphere from guests and staff. But the food was spectacular. No fault from any of our party. They even had take a way tubs for two of us who couldn't finish. The steaks are beautifully cooked and rested with the baked cheesecake bringing it all home. Will be returning 5*****

All was good to start had nice starter , then the main meal came out , half way through i found a piece of plastic in my pie , called one of the waiters over to let them know , no apology or anything , 5 mins later another waitress came over and took our plates , her words were can't believe you found that in your food . That was it no sorry or we will remove the cost from your bill , so we paid and left . Didn't want to cause a fuss but not to be even offered an apology was unacceptable. Fair to say I wouldn't go again.

Food beer and service excellent would definitely say get there and enjoy

Had a late lunch at St Vincents', and very much enjoyed it. Friendly welcome, Excellent service, and quality food. It's a fairly typical country pub so a good mix of locals and visitors. Wide beer selection. Heartily recommend the curry! Dog friendly and plenty of parking on site.

Staying nearby at paradise park pods and looking for somewhere to eat on the way back, what a great find, fantastic menu and excellent food. Hard to find good traditional pub these days so really refreshing to know they still exist.

We had lunch at the St Vincent Arms on the 17th October with a group of MG Car Club members who arrange a monthly drive out to meet at a pub for lunch. We arrived a little earlier than the rest of our group (approx 20 of us) and the owners spotted that I was pushing my wife in a wheelchair and they rushed out to show us a more easy access point to avoid the front steps. Then, the staff showed us into the dining room and offered to bring drinks to us so we didnt have to go to the bar. Their care continued through the meal and they were just wonderful. I chose an Amber session beer, a real ale that tasted fantastic even though it had an alcohol content of only 3.5%, but perfect for driving. Then we looked at the menu, I was pleasantly surprised by the choice of fresh seafood"Specials"on it, I decided on Halibut on a bed of curried rice and cauliflower puree and my wife had a fresh crab salad. Both were amazing, so fresh and tasty, a real surprise so far from the sea and really generous portions too, we probably could have shared one dish between us and still been satisfied. They had lots of other seafood specials too and so we are going to have to return to try them all. It is a 35 mile drive for us from home but I think it would be well worth the effort. Thanks to all at the St Vincent Arms, we will be back as soon as we can. Cheers

The food here is amazing, the service was superb, we had to wait for our starters but when the bill came they had knocked them off without us asking. What an amazing gesture. Thanks for making my wife's birthday special.

Great village pub, a good variety of food on the menu. The crab for starters and pie for mains was delicious and really good sized portions.

Found this lovely place when away for a few days at a local lodge site - had a meal and it was nice no complaints would re visit if in the area again.

Called in on a drive past at this very popular and established gastro pub when we were surprised to see a fairly empty car park on a Sunday Lunchtime. After a very warm welcome from the wonderful hosts we were soon seated in the bar area perusing the Sunday Special Menu and sampling some excellently kept ale. We all chose the fish and chips which were served in a generous portion and cooked to perfection. Overall a spectacular meal with good service in very pleasant surroundings. Highly recommended

Altogether very pleasing. Staff were courteous and attentive. Food was excellent from the scallops for this starter to the guinea fowl main (tender and delicious ). Beef and ale pie also tasty and pastry well made. Baked cheesecake beautiful (little small on portion size). All in all very happy and will be visiting again.

Wouldn’t waste your valuable time, unfortunately you are not welcome if you are not local. We were denied food, then asked if we would like food. We were then told AGAIN after we ordered we couldn’t eat outside despite the table next to us enjoying their meal outside. Very disappointed. Would not recommend.

Ate here for the first time for Sunday lunch. Booked a table in the bar as our friends had a dog. (No dogs in main lounge) Warm welcome on arrival, excellent service and delicious Sunday lunch. They put out small side tables for the side dishes, as the bar room tables were too small for everything. Very thoughtful. Would recommend very highly

Booked the Venue on 10th May for a casual lunch reunion of 14. mostly couples. We were allocated a room for our sole occupancy. Simon & Clare (Proprietors) couldn't have been more helpful. The drinks and food ordering service throughout was exemplary, very efficient and speedy. The Meal was excellent, chefs were amazing delivering 9 differing main courses without any delay. For anyone celebrating an occasion. St Vincent is an Ideal venue in a pretty location.

The st Vincent Arms is a traditional village pub with several rooms. It has a wide range of beers, lager and cider, including five hand-pulled cask conditioned real ales. The pub has a very good reputation for the real ales, and it has featured in the camra good beer guide for over forty years. The cask ale was, as always, in excellent condition when I called in. The staff are friendly and welcoming. There are no bar games. The pub is mainly a food pub, the meals are good and the pub gets very busy. The bar is dog friendly, and there is outside seating. Highly recommended. Check opening times.

Very limited options for special diets. Some specials very expensive. One of us had fish and chips and fish quality could have been better.

I can’t rate the food highly enough. A steak pie taken to another level. Gorgeous. Nice Guinness and Taylor’s Landlord to go with it. An extensive menu that I’m sure all of which would be equally delicious. I’m planning on going back to find out.

Booked a Sunday lunch . Beef roast dinner. Poor. We thought we had been given child portions . The beef ( a good vet could have revived) The roast potatoes were rock hard. The ( single ) Yorkshire pudding ( small) poor. And the vegetables, ! We did wait a short while as we thought another portion of veg was coming but nope !!! Won’t be going there again.

Absolutely lovely pub, proper no nonsense food. My wife had the chilli con carni, and I had the bangers and mash. Certainly recommend this pub for food and the people.

Excellent food, beer and service

Excellent all round. I arrived 20 minutes late due to being delayed by closed roads The staff were happy with this and didn't feel rushed. The food was excellent. Varying high prices but you don't mind paying a bit more if the quality is going to be great. Tidy car park and clean toilets. I will be back.

Visited with family, four generations, high chairs and wheel chairs included. From booking the staff could not have been more accommodating. Excellent service, menu choices and quality food. Be prepared, portions are on the large side, great value for money.

Staying in the area over Christmas, we visited the restaurant for dinner. A party of 13, including children and two infants. Service was excellent, food and drink arrived promptly. Portions we’re generous, tasty and hot. Would recommend

The food here is excellent. We could not fault any of it. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The pub/restaurant is clean and cosy. The next day we were chatting to a local lady the next day and we said how lovely the food was there and she said it is the best place to eat around here.

Wow, wow, wow, what a find! Stopped nearby for 5 nights and stopped in here for lunch on the way to our lodge. The service was second to none and the home made food was absolutely amazing. Quick service and a lovely place to eat. Good old fashioned local pub. So good we went back for lunch on our last day and took some friends who also loved the place, the food and the people. We will be back!

We enjoyed a lunch here today partway through our 6 mile walk. Happy that our dog was allowed in the bar area and a request for a drink for him was enthusiastically done with a treat too. Really good choice of wines by the glass. Good choice of food. Recommend

A return visit to an old favourite proved that quality counts every time. The Timothy Taylor's Landlord was fantastic. The actual landlord is a man who knows how a bitter beer should be kept, served and treasured. All the food is freshly cooked. The scallops starter was excellent, just as I had hoped. If anything, the curry is better than ever, according to my wife.

Every trip to St Vinnies is a great experience. The quality of the food, wine and beer is among the best we have found. The family are clearly passionate about their business and all the staff are very polite and attentive. A local jewel.

We were met with a very warm welcome, a good choice of food on the menu, I had a steak sandwich with blue cheese sauce which was excellent, washed down with a gluten free Beer. A happy man.

Too long waiting, seafood was cold. Wouldn’t recommend it. Beer was good.

We are an Australian couple 9 weeks into a 12 week European and UK Holiday. Our travels have taken us North of London to Yorkshire where we are staying in superb Air B and B accommodation in a little village called East Cottingwith. The Air B and B owners strongly recommended we visit St Vincent Arms Pub in the nearby village of Sutton Upon Derwent. What an absolute treat we experienced at this delightful Pub this evening. The Pub / Restaurant have been owned and operated for 33 years by the same family- who must have been doing something extraordinary to survive the challenges of owning a Country Gastronomic Pub for that period of time , particularly in the recent times of Covid. Survive they have - in fact thrived would be a more apt description. The service provided by the wonderful staff of Emily, Joe and Scarlett was exemplary, whilst the Owner Chris came by our table to introduce herself and give us a brief history of the establishment. All were fabulous. All of our courses were faultless. My wife's entrée was twice baked Leek Souffle whilst I really enjoyed the Gratin Queenie Scallops. For mains we enjoyed a lovely fillet of sole with vegetables whilst I enjoyed a very hot and tasty Madras curry. As I said, all were faultless. The wine list was also extensive and real credit to the owners for their willingness to provide many options for diners. If you happen to be travelling to Yorkshire you should certainly experience the delights of this Pub, situated in a lovely village to the south east ( about 8 miles) of the City of York. You will not be disappointed . We were delighted

Why do so many placed find it so difficult to do a Sunday Roast nowadays. It seems so many are cutting corners with bought in food etc. Thankfully, this place is just consistently great. Delicious Sunday roast, home made Yorkshire Puddings, fab beef and roasties and lovely service.

Great service; welcoming, very friendly and efficient. While the food was good, it seemed a bit overpriced.

Celebrated our golden wedding anniversary with 23 family members and friends. Fantastic evening, staff were brilliant and the food was superb. Dont know how they managed that number of meals without a hitch but they did, so thank you Clare, Ade, Chris and Si and your wonderful team for making it a night we will never forget. If I could give you more than 5 stars I would.

I would put 0 if I could can't believe somebody would actually surve steak with so much fat and grisl for nearly £30 it was disgusting. Every steak on the table was the same and definitely ruined what was supposed to be a celebration. Thank god for alcohol.

Called on the way home from work and had a steak pie with red wine and shallots peas and a rosti was so tender enjoyed it and the old peculiar was so cold went down a treat will call again well looked after

We have been coming here for more than 30 years as we love it. It is a fabulous friendly pub. The food is always wonderful & a good selection of daily special meals on top of the regular menu as well as a large choice of beers. You will not be disappointed

Our food was excellent. For starters my wife had scallops and I had pate. Both were terrific. The fresh bread that accompanied them was delicious. For mains, my wife had the coronation chicken sandwich and I had the chili con carne. Both were great but I will caution that the chili is as described on the menu, VERY spicy, but still very tasty. The restuarant is classic old pub style. Authentic and cosy. For reference, our lunch (2 courses with soft drinks) came in at just over £50. This restuarant is definitely worth a visit, you will enjoy it.

Table for four mid week. A bustling pub that is very dog friendly, in 1 of 2 bars. Drinks and food were excellent and we’d be happy to return when visiting our friends again. Great outdoor space for the summer too!

Review based on lunch in the bar. Great first impressions, smart clean pub, welcoming staff, pre-booked table ready for us. Excellent and interesting specials menu, in addition to standard pub stuff. Food very freshly prepared, and restaurant quality. Very good range of bevs. Prices comparable with similar places, but value better than many, because everything was just how it should be. We’ll be back!

Never eaten here before live locally , cannot fault service or food this was very professional . The reason for low rating was the gents toilet appalling smell had to open window for ventilation . If these facilities are over looked hope all others are up to scratch..
