We had afternoon tea today and compared to the description it was nothing like that. We had 4 tiny sandwiches each savouries were good and 3 small cakes but were was the scone with jam and cream no where to be seen. My wife normally has to take something away with her but this time left hungry. It was a shame because we had just had an excellent tour of the brewery

We had visited St Peter's Hall several times before, but only for coffee and a snack. Today we called in for a proper lunch and were seriously impressed by the quality and originality of the food. So often a menu is alluring, but the reality when served up falls short of expectations. Here our expectations were exceeded. Trios have turned this lovely old building into a professional, friendly, relaxing restaurant where it is possible to enjoy really imaginative cooking at very reasonable prices. In such a historic and peaceful setting, the (modern) background music seemed incongruous and obtrusive. Silence would have been preferable, or else something older and a little more sedate. But this is only a minor quibble. Full marks for food and service.

We attended the Hall for Afternoon Tea, having visited for yummy cakes and drinks previously on our local walk. The Afternoon tea itself was presented extremely well and was very tasty, with a varied selection of sweet and savoury. Venue was stunning and clean. Worth mentioning the ease of booking as well via email. Only thing lacking was staff communication and finesse. We received milk in a jug which had loose tea floating in it. This was quickly resolved albeit served in the same jug just dripping with water from where it had been rinsed. Fairly attentive throughout (including choice of music!) and anything we asked for was served quickly. We were told by one member of staff the table wouldn’t be needed so could stay, only to be told a short while later by another member of staff, we would need to move table or vacate for the evening sitting. Final confusion came when it was time to pay the bill, a number of items were missed off and this was blamed on another member of staff. This was quickly resolved although still thought to be unprofessional. A few small tweaks and I would happily award the final stars🙂

Had another excellent meal at this lovely, atmospheric restaurant. A beautiful building, lovely decor in the restaurant and plenty of outside seating for nice weather. Rural tranquil setting but easily accessible. Popular with cyclists as well as people like us looking for tasty, imaginative food. Good for people who like vegetarian food and aren’t after just meat and veg. I had the broccoli and blue cheese soup which was delicious followed by Tofu green curry which was suitably fragrant and authentic tasting. You can have it with prawns or chicken. The fish cakes are very good and the grazing platters are generous and tasty. There is a good selection of desserts and ice cream. Friendly attentive service!! We will be back!! For beer lovers there is also the brewery and a well stocked shop!

We visited St. Peter’s Hall yesterday for Sunday lunch to celebrate my grandparent’s 60th wedding anniversary and it was simply amazing. All three courses were absolutely delicious and to a very high standard. If you’re looking for a good quality Sunday roast then this is not to be missed. The Stilton mushrooms starter and sticky toffee pudding were personal favourites but everything was just perfect. Can’t fault a single part of the meal and it was enjoyed by all. We had some requirements for the meal and nothing was too much trouble. There was 14 of us (ranging from 16 years old to 84!) so a big party but we felt very welcome. The staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful. If you’re wanting somewhere where you can have a celebration then this is definitely the place. We will definitely be back and this is a must try if you’re in the area!

After an awful experience when St peter's restaurant was under the previous management we were very hesitant to return but so glad we did. The restaurant now under Trios exceeded our expectations. Booking was easy, staff were extremely friendly, nothing was too much trouble, food and drink was amazing. So lovely to be treated to Sunday lunch with lots of lovely flavours, colour and textures. We were warned that there was a large group in before us and expected a bit of a wait for food but service was very slow so not somewhere to visit if you're in a hurry. We had a private dining room upstairs as we were also a large group and it was perfect for passing a peaceful afternoon with family, leisurely playing card games in between courses, opening birthday presents and enough space for the children to stretch their legs. The children's menu is just smaller portions from the main menu and my children didn't really appreciate the variety of veg and flavours on offer for Sunday lunch but staff were so accommodating of their fussiness. Very lucky to have this stunning venue on our doorstep and it was a wonderfully cool place to be on a scorching hot day. We will definitely be returning soon.

This was our first meal here and we will be going back for sure. The food was very well cooked, fresh and full of flavours - quite how they served the veg so fresh is beyond me. The Hall is very pretty and the bar/restaurant well laid out, plus there is outdoor places to eat or drink. Only complaint is service. All the staff were lovely, but everything took so long. Nearly an hour after ordering before our main arrived and another 30 minutes until cold puds got to us. After nearly two hours had to go to the bar to try and pay the bill, which saw a number of other tables stand up and do the same - one couple left before pudding as they had run out of time. So great place, great food, just expect it to take some time to get through your meal.

As an 'Invitation to view' visit, I had expected to see a fine old mansion. However, there is very little left of the original hall and it was very much a promotion for the tenant to tell us about her ideas for the hall, including afternoon teas, lunches and weddings (in a very bland room at the top of the hall). The tour of the brewery was just standing around outside whilst a very knowledgeable chap told us all about the various processes. Unlike Greene King Brewery tours at Bury St Edmunds, no real feel for the brewing of real ale, and no tasting samples. In fact buying four random bottles cost GBP10.50. In my local Co-op store three of those bottles are presently GBP1.99 each with another one on offer at GBP1.50!

Candles light up the ancient tapestry and carved wall panels in the dining room, whilst the snug bar has a relaxed feel with wood burner and old beer bottles lining the walls. A great choice of St Peter's beers, brewed just across the yard, plus all the usual bar selections. The proprietor and staff are friendly and welcoming and the grounds make for a stunning setting. We have not eaten from the main menu but the selection of curries, pakoras and bhajis on their regular curry nights are authentic, delicious and fairly priced. They catered for me being gluten free (including beer!) with no trouble. Recommend sitting outside to watch the sun set over the moat on a summer's eve, or a warming brew by the fire on a winter weekend. During the day time you can even pop across to the brewery shop take take some tasty neer home as a souvenir! A special and magical place.

Tried another number, which turned out to be the office but told not able to be put through, must ring the restaurant direct again. Still no reply. Arrived anyway. Harassed bar staff (running out of beer!) gave bad impression, and was single-handed ly serving drinks and acting as waitress. Beef salad inedible - literally suitable for making shoes. One member of our party ordered mushroom stroganoff, another creamy mushrooms on toast. These turned out to be the same thing - with rice or toast! On seeing instant coffee on the menu, we decided against deserts or coffees. Even leaving wasn't easy. The credit card machine wasn't working because the phone wasn't working. Never, ever again.

A visit worth forgetting.......the very worst lunch I have ever had.A traditional Sunday lunch should not be the hardest culinary test to execute for even the most basic skilled cook/chef,but what was presented to myself and wife last Sunday can only be described as awful, abysmal, pathetic etc. On arrival at the reception/bar I observed cardboard boxes on the counter and other items,(untidy !)including unwashed glasses etc,the staff were all very young, and dressed in jeans(not a good 1st impression)Taking our order for the roast beef,I naturally expected, not unreasonably a fair portion of good roast beef,Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, maybe roast parsnips and a selection of vegetables, served hot in/on serving dishes, with accompanying gravy boat and condiments. What was eventually presented was the following,1st to arrive was a very small dish (cold) containing carrots and some over cooked Brussels Sprouts, both cold, several minutes later the plates arrived(again cold!)on which was couple of slices of luke warm beef,an undercooked (raw in the middle.....due I believe to being cooked in muffin tins!)Yorkshire pudding, and roasted (possibly in a deep fat fryer) New potatoes, very wet in the centre, undoubtedly the wrong variety of potatoes, and I suspect left over from previous days business, the whole thing was amateurish and not the work of a competent cook.My thoughts were conveyed to the young woman who appeared to be in charge and they were met with a total lack of interest or concern and did not seem at all bothered or surprised, she did in fact wish us to enjoy the rest of our day! The experience was to say the least awful, from the beginning to the end,and should this regime continue it will have a negative effect on the neighbouring brewing business, despite being unconnected,my advice to anyone considering paying £11 95 for Sunday lunch at this establishment is simple,do not waste your time, your money nor the effort to get there you will be more than disappointed. Finally, having e mailed the proprietor of our disappointment I have not as at 17/4/2015 received any response whatsoever, that I think says it all!

The location is a dream and being way out in the countryside next door to the brewery you couldn't dream of a better location. The old hall has been turned into a restaurant and whilst the food is good and the location is fantastic there is something missing....Was it the slow service, or the harsh wooden seating, or the seats being too close together or the initial welcome not being genuinely warm or perhaps rushed......it may have been all of those...But the question has to be why we don't return regularly when the location is a dream ?The answer we think lies in the fact that there are so many other places around where you can walk in a receive a personable warm and welcoming greeting - that it makes you feel like you want to return. Therefore, we shall return but not soon enough perhaps for the owners trying to run the business.Perhaps it's time to review the "customer experience".

Lovely starter and delicious dessert. However, the highlight of our meal was by far the fillet steak. At most restaurants the steak is not to my liking. I like steak briefly introduced to a pan then plated up. I ordered my fillet blue and it came just to my liking. They even came to check that it was rare enough for me. My husband and I went for a meal last night to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary. Its a beautiful place and we enjoyed our starter and main course, but unfortunately the dessert let it down. My husband had the cheese board priced £6.95, he was very disappointed with it. I had the marshmallow brownie with ice cream, the brownie was nowhere as good as all the other brownies I have tried (and I've tried a lot).I certainly would go back to try other things off the main menu, but I'd probably skip dessert. Their chips are some of the nicest I've had in a restaurant. I don't usually have chips, but I saw some being served to another customer and they looked so good I just had to try them. I would recommend St Peters Hall to others, and we certainly will be going back again. Next time I think we will try lunch, as it would be nice to see it in daylight.

We visited here for our 12th Wedding Anni just before Christmas. Usually we tend to go elsewhere in the UK for a night or two but this time we wanted to stay local.Anyway, we arrived a few mins before our booked time and were promptly ushered in to the bar area where we got some drinks and were given menus to peruse. After about 10 minutes we gave our food order and were then seated in the dining hall. Woe, what an impressive room! For starter, the wife had pate. She said it was simply delicious. She couldn't fault it at all. I didn't have a starter because I'm more of a pudding person so I wanted to make sure I left room! For the main, I had the steak and ale pie and this was very nice. The pie came with some seasonal vegetables which too were nice. The only gripe I would have is that I would have liked a little more pie. It wasn't small, just that it was so tasty I wanted a few more mouth fulls!!!!The wife opted for the beer battered haddock and I have to say that portion of fish on her plate was one biggest I have every seen, It was served with home made chips and a good dollop of mushy peas. She could only manage 1/2 of the fish and chips as there was just too much for her, but what she did eat she thoroughly enjoyed. I had a taste too and it was very very nice! For pudding I had the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and that was just divine! The services was very good and non intrusive. ie: you hardly knew they were there and yet the plates got cleared and we always had drinks! :)As for price, it was a bargain and I think I paid about £55 for the lot. In fact I drove home thinking I mustn't have paid for something but my wife assured me I had paid for everything and it's just that the prices weren't astronomical like some of the places around here! Excellent work St Peters staff!!!!

In fact, it was all so enjoyable that we returned the very next night. The medieval manor's great hall boasts Gothic traceried windows, an amazing tapestry, and a huge chandelier and fireplace. Some of the 'chairs' are actually beautifully carved church pews. And as for the food, well we almost forgot our manners and licked the plates clean. My spinach, cheese, and red pepper tart was delicious, and the salad was dressed with a very moreish herby vinaigrette. My partner's chicken liver pate came with red onion marmalade and this, and his fish pie main course, all disappeared rapidly. Perfect puddings were a summer fruit pavlova and a plum crumble with custard.

Saturday evening was our third visit to the stunning and unique surroundings of St Peter's Hall Restaurant - the previous two being for the Thursday Fish Supper and Friday Steak Night - so we knew we could expect another excellent meal.Having completed earlier in the day a gruelling 300 mile drive from the very soggy Western Lakes our need was for good food and plenty of it!!! The recently appointed Chef certainly delivered - and more!!We started with the Anti Pasti Platter - all our favourite foods on one enormous wooden board - Prosciutto, Chorizo and Salami meats, Mini Sweet Red Peppers stuffed with Feta Cheese, Shell-on Prawns (with lemon slice), assorted Stuffed Olives, warmed Ciabatta with a selection of dipping oils - a feast in itself - and not to be forgotten - the Finger Bowl!!For our main course we both chose the excellent Steak, Ale & Mushroom Pie with Flaky Pastry Top, served with probably the best mashed potato I have tasted and a great selection of seasonal vegetables - cooked to perfection with that subtle al dente "bite" to them - why can't I cook veggies like that??Our pudding was Spiced Apple & Plum Crumble with Custard - so tasty and followed by Cappuccino coffees. Not to be forgotten of course is the local brew from the on site St Peter's Brewery! In all a very satisfying meal - perfectly prepared and served by charming members of staff - and greatly enjoyed. To complete the evening as we drove down the long drive away from the Hall to the road a Tawny Owl perched in the moonlight on a fence post bade us "goodnight" - a fantastic end to yet another perfect dining experience at this great restaurant.

My partner and I are a big fan of St Peters' beer and not much of their selection is available in the supermarket. We often head up here to buy a case of beer and always stop off at the restaurant for a drink if not a meal. The food we have had here so far has always been good and very reasonably priced. When the weather is warm, we love to sit out by the moat - it is very peaceful and we enjoy watching the ducks. Otherwise, the bar area is cosy and the banquet hall very tastefully done. I highly recommend this place.

I fell in Love with St peters Hall and its surroundings, whilst searching for my wedding venue, When we finally got to visit, it was a winner hands down just for its beauty. Having yet to try the cusine, We took my mum out for her birthday lunch, and oh what a lovely day for it. 4th July, flowers were blooming and sun was shining, we were welcomed in and their were freshly picked wild flowers on the tables, the food was cooked quickly and was a complete delight, We made use of the 2 courses for £10 offer and all had a bit of everyone elses it was just so yummy. I cannot wait for my wedding breakfast now, I am extremely confident in the menu and the chef to make my day very special.

Yesterday evening my husband and I dined, for the first time - but definitely not the last, at the beautiful St Peter's Hall Restaurant, South Elmham, near Bungay. On arrival we were greeted by charming members of staff. After enjoying our first drinks sitting outside in the glorious Suffolk evening sunshine, we were seated in the Great Hall in this most attractive 13th Century building - so were able to admire the stunning architecture and furnishings whilst also enjoying our meal.We both opted for the Friday night "Steak Night" menu. The very generously sized rump steaks were cooked to perfection and accompanied by delicious chips, large mushroom, grilled tomato and salad. It was delicious!!We were definitely spoiled for choice with the "Home Made Desserts" menu but after much deliberation my husband opted for the sticky toffee pudding with locally made vanilla ice cream and I chose the chocolate brownie with stem ginger ice cream (again locally made). Two great desserts and again very generous portions!! The service at table was excellent and the whole "St Peter's experience" was fantastic. We shall definitely return and very soon too - I hope!!In all - a superb meal, in beautiful surroundings at a very affordable price. A great experience!!

We visited this restaurant for lunch last Saturday 22nd of June . I made the booking on line and found it a very friendly process . The table was only for the wife and myself but upon arrival we were welcomed and taken straight to our table where we were offered drinks . The most interesting thing about this place is the St.Peters Brewery is right next door and offers the range of drinks which they brew on site . I decided on the English Lager and my better half tried the grapefruit beer . We both decided they were very good and a second glass was ordered . The starters ooked very good but instead we moved straight to the main course for me the St Peters burger topped with cheddar and the better half going for the pan fried plaice and saffron pots. Both plates were quickly cleared and I liked the way the chips were served with the burger in a large tea mug good touch .Just room for a dessert for both of us strawberry cheesecake & Rich chocolate pot . Can recommend prices very reasonable and a lovely country drive to reach this wonderful eating place . We have decided on our next visit to try the Friday night steak night looking forward to it already .

I visited with a party if 5 on a Sunday and had an early lunch. The meals were a reasonable cost, staff friendly and beautiful surroundings. We all enjoyed our meals - delicious desserts - although the cheese board could have had a bit more fruit with it. It's a bit difficult to find but well worth the trip - and the brewery shop next door has good deals on the beer.

This was my second visit to St Peter's Hall. On this occasion I was pleased to take my parents along to also sample the excellent dining experience on offer. No one was disappointed. The welcome was very warm; the food exquisite and the service exceptional. I cannot rate it high enough. Thank you; I look forward to coming again.

I’ve been here for a few afternoon teas and lunches. The food is always lovely and cooked well, the themed afternoon teas are always really fun and a great treat for the local area. However the staff are not very attentive, they give you your food/drinks and leave you! It states unlimited drinks but they don’t ask if you need more, they don’t even check if your food is okay or if you need anything. At one point my friend said ‘excuse me’ and tried getting the attention of staff at the table next to us and the staff member just walked away, when we finally managed to ask for more tea they huffed like we were an inconvenience. There were also loads of hairs on our food, I think they were blowing around because they just kept appearing, maybe because they allow dogs. It’s a shame because I love the afternoon teas but it has put me off.

We were staying in wrentham for the weekend and called in for a pint on the Friday and saw that Saturday was a tapas evening. So we booked a table for Saturday. Both the food and service were excellent. We would definitely visit again when next visiting the area.

Super friendly and the burgers are amazing. Would probably travel back here just for this place. Chilli loaded chips are also fantastic

Sadly our recent visit didn't live up to expectations. 3 of our 4 diners had problems with their dishes. Whist we were offered replacements for the steak dishes it would have meant 2 of the diners would be eating their main courses at different times. Lets hope it was a one off experience. Disappointing as it was a birthday treat.
