What’s really interesting about this cafe is that it’s part of the now closed second funicular tram at the top. Loved the Yorkshire owner of the cafe ☕️. Great bacon rolls before we checked into The Grand next door 🚪 (which we liked ❤️ too)

Decided to stop by on my way from an appointment as I have meant to for some time now. The cafe is in what used to be a funicular beside the Grand Hotel. You couldn't ask for better views. Spotlessly clean. Very good basic menu. Very good prices. Great coffee and beautiful dessert selection. They had a large hotdog on their special board and I went for that. Efficient and friendly service. Will absolutely be back to try out more.

Staff incredibly rude and refused entry and told to leave to my family and son with autuism who has an assistance dog ,very rude and unexcepting and ,made to feel awful in front of other customers even saying its not an assistance dog even when had harness signs and assistance card shown ,son has autism and takes alot for him to be in public and this has not helped his confidence in coming out in public. Would a guide dog be refused also? Totally no need to be so unfriendly also.

Have eaten in here a couple of times & always value for money with very good portions with good service too. The menu is simple which works for us & there’s always opportunity in this cafe to have cake. We like the quirkiness of having lunch in a Victorian tram carriage which is anchored at the top of the Victorian funicular, perfectly positioned overlooking South Bay. Food with a view! Plenty of personal space to eat & some outside space too. The double glazing blocks out most of the noise from the seagulls which nest close by on the ledges of The Grand. Definitely, worth a visit if you’re passing.

The terrible review isn't for the take out tea, or the young guy who made it, but for the older man who was utterly rude. We walked in for a take out and waited by the counter.... ignored for a little while, then he took our order. He asked if we wanted milk and sugar, and we both replied 'just milk please', which he seemed to object to without any reason, then began to have a go at us implying we bit his head off and were off with him. He even said 'it's not like I said 'do you want sugar, you bitch'. I was on the verge of just leaving and wish I had. Totally offensive and out of order and we definitely won't be back!!

Ordered beans on toast for myself and friend. Toast was very underdone, very soft, could not eat. Just asked for an ordinary slice of toast each instead. Wanted to charge me £2 She told me she was not going to give toast away, the toast had been made as they would normally. How very short sighted, for the sake of 2 slices of bread she has lost the custom of 2 locals who will not be returning or recommending this place. She was very arrogant and very unapologetic. Clearly in the wrong business.

First time in St Nicholas popped in for coffee and hot chocolate. Place was empty. Clean, tidy and lovely views over The Spa and the seafront yet lacked atmosphere and staff were not friendly. Hubby did not enjoy his flat white as lady behind the counter did not know what it was or how to make it so a waste of money for him. Will walk past next time.

Positioned in an enviable position this cafe is well worth a visit. We popped in just as it had started raining and chatted to a gentleman who we think was the owner. Not only did we enjoy a decent hot drink but also enjoyed chatting and finding out a lot of local information. We talked about how great Scarborough was for concerts and that we were going to see Bryan Adams in the open arena that evening, he told us that despite the forcast it wouldn’t rain and it didn’t. Not only serving good coffee but also good weather reports. Pop in for a coffee and a chat, you will be welcomed.

For anyone who loves views, cakes and coffee and funicular railways then this is the stop off for you. We were having a couple of days in Scarborough to visit the cliff lift and enjoy the beach. Caught this quirky little cafe not long before it was closing but that wasn't a problem for the gent working there. We visited on a quiet off season day so were lucky enough to enjoy a great view from our table inside what was the St Nicholas cliff lift. Both cars have been brought to the top of the lift and you can now enjoy stunning views across the bay whilst tucking into delightful cake and sandwiches. Plenty of seating outside if it is busy by the Spa Bridge. Couldn’t recommend enough if you are passing, great selection for light snacks or lunch or even just a coffee. Very clean with lovely welcoming staff.

I didn’t have any water for my dog and they are a dog friendly cafe (or do they claim ) so when I gave my pooch a drink of milk on a plate we had our tea cake on the old man came storming out and started shouting at us … he then carried on verbally abusing us to the point both my friend and I got very upset. He called us f…king scum and said he would have to disinfect the area we were sat in. I would not recommend this place to anyone and I will not be frequenting the establishment in the future. For someone who claims to be a dedicated dog owner I feel very sorry for the dog.

Visited with my disabled son who is a wheelchair. There is a wheelchair ramp, but we were shouted at not to use it as his wheelchair would broken the ramp. But why have an unusable wheelchair ramp? My son was left feeling embarrassed, I quietly seething. However we were all thirsty so sat outside and ordered a drink. They got my sons order wrong and when I asked to change it, I was related with what borders on contempt, they did change the drink. I noted bird muck on a few of the chairs understandable with the location but this looked like it had been there a while. This is a place I will avoid at all costs in the future.

Great looking cafe. Manager asked our family group to leave before we'd even sat down as he misunderstood an innocent remark. He accused me of being rude, but wouldn't accept that he'd misunderstood. Ideally situated at the bottom end of St Nicholas square, just passed the Grand Hote and at the approach to Valley Bridge, you will find the Tram cafe converted from what once was the cliff tramway. The two trams have been anchored at the top of the incline and the adjoining ticket office and trams have been rebuilt as a very clean and spotless cafe with excellent views of the South Bay. The trams are an integral part of the cafe design and are part of the seating area. The menu provides light snacks, salads etc, ideal for a light lunch and service is very good. Toilet is also available. Prices are good and premises are very clean and well lit. A good place to recover from a walk from the South Bay and Spa or from the centre of the town going the other way. Well worth a visit.

Stunning views! The cafe is constructed on the site of the old cliff lift so has lovely uninterrupted, elevated views of Scarborough. Because of it being the old cliff lift, it is very small & I assume would get very busy in high season. The food is excellent but choice is limited (mainly paninis & cakes) but if you're just wanting a light lunch with superb sea views this place is perfect. I will definitely eat here again next time I'm in Scarborough.

missed potential! a totally average place, although such a lovely view of the harbour and sea, and lovely (potential) space! upon entering I just wanted the £5 sandwich and soup. menu isn't extensive, incredibly basic as is the decor. two lads that gave off the impression of surly schoolboys were stood chatting when I came in and didn't seem too eager to please a paying customer, I sort of felt like I was intruding? I ordered a tuna sandwich and soup. when it arrived (pretty quick) it was clearly tinned Heinz tomato soup and the sandwich was super lack lustre, brown bread slapped with margarine with a tin of (not very well drained) canned tuna, sandwich was wilting and look pretty sad. tasted alright when dipped in soup and i was so hungry and cold I would've eaten anything. Just generally not the best place? ultimately, needs to have more choice, friendlier staff, warmer surroundings and better food. upon exploring I discovered much better places and felt sort of bitter that I'd eaten here instead of further into town

We called on a Saturday lunchtime and have been several times before for a snack and always found it very good (apart from not having a high chair). On this visit I enquired what the soup of the day was and was told it was vegetable, which I ordered. When it arrived with one slice of bread from a sliced loaf, it was clearly Heinz vegetable from a tin. As we were leaving I queried why it was tinned soup and was told it's always out of a tin on Saturdays. I found this very disappointing. Home made soup is quick, cheap and tasty. Serving up Heinz tinned soup is unacceptable in my opinion.

The view over Scarborough's South Beach from this cafe is amazing. We called in for no other reason than because it was the first tea and coffee shop we came to after crossing the pedestrian bridge from the south cliffs and because of the view. There is plenty of seating outside for when the weather permits and we found the inside to be clean and tidy. The windows stretch the whole length of the building so ever table benefits from a sea view. The food on offer is the standard cafe type. Nothing fancy or out of the ordinary, but the prices were low enough to reflect this. My coffee and scone were absolutely fine. I could have stayed a lot longer gazing out of the window but we had more exploring to do. Tip: the cafe is only about 50 yards from the upper station of the funicular coming from the beach. It is worth the ride just for the views.

Lovely warm and helpful people with home baked cakes, freshly made snacks, hot and cold. The indoor sitting areas are fantastic with awesome views of the entire bay.

First visit, saw couple leaving sea view table . Told we couldn't sit there as they wanted to sweep floor. We explained we wanted that particular table. We were willing to wait. Young woman said we would have to leave. Older man serving was very rude, threatening and offensive to us! Incredibly shocked at our treatment, can't believe any business would treat customers in such an offensive manner!Avoid at all costs!!!!

I don’tknow if this place is any good. After 15 minutes waiting at the bar, only 1 person got served - by the 2 staff. The 1 ‘serving’ then left 6 of us waiting and went outside to wipe down tables. Rude, surly, we up and left.

We had the unfortunate "luck" of spending a night at this place. Got a "suite" under the creaky flooring of the pub with noise-channelling ventilation ducts overhead, a substandard kitchen with no cupboards and wobbly table, a toilet with no ventilation, exposed pipes and disjointed faucet and a door with no handle in sight... All this came with a delayed check-in and service that leaves much to hope for. While the rooms above the pub may make for a better night's sleep, there is little hope that could improve this establishment's culture of hospitality.

We had a nice English breakfast for the start of our walk. Not the best ever perhaps, but enjoyable and open at 7:30. Prices are reasonable, but cash only

I came here during each visit from Canada and we were just getting ready to return again. I am just shocked to find out that they have closed permanently and I can only live with my memories. I wanted to bring my wife there for what I hoped would be another incredible weekend. I can only hope the very best for the family and say thanks for all of the memories and the fantastic bar towels that I still have after 20 years Thank you. Muchas gracias. Hvala, arrigoto, Merci,

Had a great Rioja wine tasting experience. A great range sampled and super snacks to go with each wine tasted. Well done. Fab afternoon out!
