Great location and view from the terrace. Good honest pub with friendly staff, nice beer, and good, honest, great value food. Fed family of 4 with hot food and drinks for under £40 Stopped off on the way through instead of motorway services and so glad we did - just what we needed.

Been to this great local pub on a few occasions. One of the nicest pub spots in Newport to sit on a summers evening. Great views and outstanding beer. The staff are generally friendly and the Landlord is a great keeper of top quality beers and very knowledgeable when asked what choice of guest ales to choose from. The place is always full of friendly locals. I was there the other evening to watch the sunset with friends whilst tucking into a great chicken curry. However, don’t expect Michelin star food but you’ll get good food at a reasonable price. Will be back very soon!

One of the best run pubs in Wales never mind Newport!

What a fab find , lovely atmosphere. The staff were great ! Food was really good , beautiful jacket spud with chicken curry . nickerbockerglory plus drink .all for about £12 amazing value for money . Loved it ! X

Beautiful summer evening with a balcony garden overlooking the River Usk. The unset views were spectacular. There was a bunch of jazz enthusiasts having a jam session which contributed to the atmosphere. Excellent cheerful and prompt service.

This is a local, envision South Wales, venue that boasts a Thursday night jam night. So come along and offer your talents for local delectation. But, that is only if you meet the right person, (a different one each week), and don't get in the way of the organiser's 'omage to his own ability. So, having attended 15 times and being able to play 3 of those 15, I would suggest that this is a look how good I am, Jam rather than a, lets be inclusive jam. Please attend, don't expect to play. I get very few opportunities to attend. They are precious. I'll not be back. More shame the organiser.

Proper pub. Music, pool table, sky sports, Well looked after beer with 4 cask ales on tap and plenty of lager choices.. Good pub grub, homemade curries, lasagne, etc. Massive jacket spuds lol. Extra nice on a summers day on the terrace overlooking the river.

It is a nice place, but due to the shortage of staff we had to wait an hour, which rather spoilt it. We will try again.

The food there is excellent, the staff are so helpfull and friendly I would recommend this establishment to everyone

Wonderful views of the River Usk and hills to the north from the outdoor area at the back of the pub. Great real ale selection and the ones we tried were in good condition. Friendly service from behind the bar. We'll be back again and hope to try the food in future.

What a great place this is and we try to visit often. It's rare these days and especially in Newport you get a pub that has a great vibe and mix of old and young without ego and attitude. Always a nice atmosphere, great pub grub with the jacket potatoes being winners amongst our varied age family (notably the chilli, tuna & sweetcorn amd tikka chicken ones all around £5), our youngest actually knows this place as the "jacket potatoe shop". There is also a decent range of drink options and good draughts. A decent pint of guiness too. Dog friendly and outdoor seating with views on a dry day. We are yet to have a bad experience at the st.ju's.

When here with my wife the staff are very friendly and the food and service was excellent it is dog friendly small seating outside over looking the river would definitely go again

First time in to meet up with friends. Proper pub, good beer and friendly staff. Pool table, darts board and large lounge. Would definitely pop back for food and visit in the summer to soak in the views of the Usk.

Had food here today big portion size and very reasonable price will definitely be back.

Made the wake a truly happy and celebratory occasion. The scones were the highlight of a wonderful buffet.

Don’t go here if you have an English accent, I can’t think of any other reason why the cellarman and young male staff would treat you like something unpleasant they have stood in.

Great pub with some decent views over the river. Nice to have a few drinks and bite to eat on a sunny afternoon. Even live music on a Friday afternoon if that's your thing.

I've been going to this pub for over 45 years on and off, great atmosphere, staff and users. Haven't ate there for many years unless you count crisps, so I can't comment on the food other than it "looks" good and plentiful. Always a family first for us when we fancy a cheeky pint or two. Rear balcony is a must on a sunny day. Steve and his team run a great pub.

Lovely light lunch for 4 adults. It was spotlessly clean, served quickly, lovely and quiet, comfortable and very well priced for drink and food. Will definitely go again and recommend for lunch or casual evening meal.

Stopped in St Julians Inn on the way back from our walk to Caerleon today we came here around 2:10pm and l don't usually write reviews like this unless I really feel the need to but I'm not impressed by the "traditional nice feel" as some people have stated in previous reviews about this pub that it certainly isn't! I felt my dad and I were unwelcome as we walked in and cos we aren't regulars, clearly not locals known to these people who were in there we were met with odd stares, miserable looking people who need a few light bulbs thrown their way to blooming lighten up! We had just been out walking for a while and wanted a nice cold drink to cool us down but I think I'd have preferred to be dehydrated than stop by here now tbh Don't think there is much customer service skills in this pub sorry not sorry if my honest opinion offends anyone who lives out there or visits it often but to me it has a very snooty atmosphere to it, an old school place that is maintained by the type of people who go there so anyone who isn't a regular isn't made to feel welcome or invited to stay long even if you do have anything off their menu My dad paid £6.80 for 2 pints of coke and we just felt awkward uncomfortable sat inside or outside of the pub we simply sat away from smokers or punters at the bar in a quiet corner hoping to enjoy our drinks in peace but felt on edge with people looking over at us and staring which was weird as we never had this in any pub we've stopped by before at different trips/areas Not the first time we've had a bad experience here either we ate here on a previous trip to Caerleon in 2021 we gave this place a go as we fancied food before heading home and it was around mid summer when we went and I remember spotting mould on my baguette when I had a hotdog and chips soon as I saw the blue bits on my bread it put me off the rest of my meal and we haven't ate there since that day (and we did inform the waitress back then 2 years ago who said "well the bread was made fresh this morning" but to us that looked like it was leftover from days before as we know what we saw- blue mould up the side of the baguette which put me off eating anymore of my meal, nothing was done about it dad felt embarrassed to ask for half of a refund or anything we couldnt be bothered to argue or have hassle after spotting mould on our food back then so we left the food and pub still hungry) the place is clearly aimed at a specific audience of well off people on your way to Caerleon who don't mind paying high prices for food and drink.. not really great value at all imo especially when there isn't any good customer service to give to people After our second visit today can safely say we won't be back not even for a cold soft drink didn't feel like they appreciated our custom, doesnt seem like they go out of their way to make outsiders feel welcome, definitely one of those pubs that has a member only feel to it (even if they say "everyone is welcome") so I won't recommend this place to people you're better off going to pubs further down Caerleon Road/Chepstow road area towards town there is plenty of social clubs, RFC clubs left in Newport where you're more likely to be served with a smile, welcomed by regular happy punters at affordable prices too and have a comfortable time in them If you don't mind having people gawk at you as you try to enjoy your drink, snobbery about whether you're wearing clothes to people's high standards, don't mind paying what I would class steep prices then you'll be fine to go there Only reason why I gave 2 stars is for the views that we tried to enjoy in peace outside for a short while before leaving as we felt uncomfortable staying any longer than half an hour whilst trying to rest our legs

Haven't been here for a good few years ... I wasn't disappointed ! Classic pub with reasonable priced food & drinks was here not long after opening time & food & service was quick & served by pleasant staff ; within an hour it got much busier.moved outside for drinks & coffee.which was lovely with the views & sunshine ..will definitely be visiting again soon 😊

I chose this place because I was looking for a dog friendly pub that did a roast beef sandwich. St Julian obliged and had lovely views over the river and plenty of seats on the balcony and on the grass. Staff very attentive and pleasant.

I've never been here before. But will be going back.

Enjoyed an afternoon with retired friends and had an enjoyable Bar Meal priced very competitively. Comfortable surroundings and great views of the Usk River and Caerleon Roman Fortress of Isca. Well worth a visit. There is plenty of parking space. Just be careful when leaving the Car Park as it is on a bend.

Absolutely amazing place, all the staff were wonderful and so so helpful. We held my Dad's Celebration of Life here. The girls who work there told me the buffet was lovely and plentiful and they weren't kidding. All our guests said what a wonderful choice and so professionally done. When I went up to settle the bill I was thanking them and passing on the compliments they said others had thanked them and said about the food. So a very big thank you guys for everything you all did yesterday for my family and friends. Excellent all round.

This is very much a traditional pub. No airs and graces as they say and very much what you see is what you get. A stunning view across a valley greets you in the bar which I find worth the price of a pint. Where else could you find such a beautiful backdrop for a pint. They have regular music nights and as a lover of a traditional pub, I find this place to be a real joy. I can understand how other visitors might find the food to be lacking. I find it friendly and welcoming and appreciate its charm. Worth a visit for the views alone

Had my mums wake here, the staff were polite, efficient and very helpful. The buffet was excellent. It was varied, fresh and great value for the money. Thank-you for making a difficult day better. Would definitely recommend it.

I wanted to have some light snacks ,but it was Sunday ,they didn't serve meals on Sundays ! But,the server gave me a piece of chocolate with my tea ! Some regulars were having a pool tournament there for a championship !! A must visit !!

Been many years since we last ate in the st julians. Will be a few more years before I eat there again, if ever. Just had Chicken Madras Curry. Should be advertised as mushrooms and tomato in a bowl with a hint of chicken and curry powder. Totally tasteless ! Plate was watery from the rice, thankfully had some chips, not half and half. Had more tinned mushrooms than chicken. Nan bread had no taste either. Very dissapointed. Number of year's ago it use to be the best pub curry around.

Lasagne…..burnt, microwaved for too long, not much of it. Came with “Garlic Bread” - 2 very small pieces which weren’t worth having! Chips were ok but the salad barely covered a chip Cheap but still not worth it! Very disappointing!!

Had lunch there. Sat inside, but they have a terrace overlooking the tidal Usk river. Very low level so more mud than water, but would be very different on another day. Food, service and prices were good.
