mew to the area went in got served straight away ordered 2 carvery meals with extra pigs in basket and got pur carvery cold not inpressed pigs in blankets not on menu got them when we finished our meal not enough staff on tables full of empty plates

From beginning to end the whole thing was an awful experience. We weren’t greeted or shown to our reserved table, we were just told table 6 so we had to walk around the whole restaurant to find our table and which was placed by the entry way for the park. I totally respect people want to go in and out with their kids for the park but it was absolutely freezing and had to keep our coats on. The table next to us left so we went to the bar and asked if we could switch table and they said yes. No one came and sorted the table for us so we had to clean the table ourselves by removing glasses and bottles and then having to wipe the table down because there food all over it. After waiting an hour and half for food we asked the server how much longer our food would be, she assured us that our food would be out after the table before us. she couldn’t be more apologetic and gave us free drinks which was a small solution to a massive problem. Our food finally came after the 2 hours of waiting. You’d think after waiting 2 hours for food to come it would be hot?? Nope, the food was barely luke warm. My husband order the extra large dinner which was supposed to be beef and turkey but was only given beef. At this point we are feeling deflated, hungry and tired of making complaints. We just left and here I am making this review. I don’t know whether it’s lack of management or inexperienced staff but we won’t be returning anytime soon. I came here for my birthday meal because when I’ve been here in the past it’s been amazing. I don’t know what’s gone wrong down the line but they need to sort this out soon or risk losing a lot of customers.

Pre booked the table in order to watch the football. On arrival was greeted at the bar and shown to table. Ordered food and drinks at the bar and there was no problem using a discount code. When the food arrived which seemed to take no time it was well presented and piping hot. After food spent the rest of the night watching the football.

The staff were helpful and welcoming. The food was very nice and arrived quickly considering how busy the venue was.

Absolutely disgusting behaviour from this staff at this establishment. Full bad review given on trip advisor. Rude, Racist, kept us waiting over 2 hours - My son’s birthday completely ruined. The staff should be ashamed of themselves. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY

Not great, the food has become average/poor. The service is rubbish and to top it off it’s more expensive than other similar chains. They think that have a monopoly because it’s the only place in glan llyn, but there’s a thing called Uber eats and just eats now.

Fantastic place - visited on the weekend with my family and the atmosphere was brilliant. Really well run and food was fantastic. Could not fault it.

Friendly staff who pointed out our prebooked table as it was easily viewable from the bar, friendly and open staff taking our food and drinks order. Thoughtful staff serving our meals. The food itself was good, I've had better, especially portion size. We ended up having dessert to feel satisfied! But will remember this the next time we visit as friends live close by. It wouldn't stop me from trying more of the menu, although the Sunday menu is very small compared to the main menu, but that's semi understandable. I couldn't find a kids menu at the table, so had to use the website. The play zone was much loved by my toddler, I do love a family friendly pub!

Best Sunday lunch in South Wales. The Roast Turkey (large) meal fills a large oval plate and is lovely. 👌👌👌

We came for sunday roast, and it did not disappoint. Service was absolutely fabulous, and the food was delicious. It's the best Sunday roast in Newport.

Having visited the Llanwern Bull many times since moving to the area, I feel confident in reviewing the new menu that’s just arrived. Amazing! We ordered the ultimate ribs and chicken platter, loaded katsu fries and cheesy garlic bread..all of which were outstanding, Arrived piping hot and delicious! Coupled with a warm welcome great service and value for money! Well done guys!

Food came out cold and when asked for fresh we were served the same food but with fresher chips and covered in so much garlic mayo the food was inedible. Kids chips were burnt and covered in grease and kids pasta was cold. When reported to manager she laughed at me but did refund our meals.

Lovely pub that we go to every Sunday for our Sunday lunch. Food is great and at a reasonable price. Staff very friendly and eager to please. Wait times at the bar and for food vary based on how busy they are, but they do let you know if there is a wait time. They will accommodate for large party of people dining which then puts the kitchens behind if you are stuck behind them, but again, they will explain this if it is going to happen. We always have the same each week, so cannot really comment on the rest of the menu, but what we have is great especially with added onion rings and cauliflower cheese… don’t forget the extra gravy, mint sauce and horse radish. Bar staff and table staff area great, never had a time to complain when we have been there.

I had the absolute pleasure of visiting llanwern bull, and I can confidently say it’s now one of my favorite spots in town! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm, inviting atmosphere that made me feel right at home. The staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and they really know their stuff when it comes to recommending drinks. The beer selection is fantastic, with a wide range of local brews and classic favorites. I tried their house-made IPA, and it was incredible — perfectly balanced and packed with flavor. For food, I went with their signature burger, and it did not disappoint. Juicy, flavorful, and paired perfectly with crispy fries. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients.

I've always ate here and give a high review but I was served this jacket looks like been left under light no sauce to the beans verry dry meal awful and I eat here often and I ordered 4 meal not just 1 that is how it came not once was asked if the food was OK poor service today

A Pleasant experience compared to a visit a year or so previous

Mental service, barely anyone in here, ordered 50 minutes ago, still waiting. Rubbish. Stick to what you know and don't change.

Have been here many times for food/drink. Never been this bad before. Went on the 30th December so still a fairly busy time of year and only 2 people working between bar, clearing tables, running food and probably cooking it too! When i looked through the windows of the kitchen i couldn’t see anybody at all!! No signs or pre warning to say they were short staffed and the wait for food would be over 45 minutes ! Food was Mid and didn’t taste nice, chicken tasted and felt reheated so couldn’t eat it. Ordered an adults hunters chicken and looked more like a child portion, came on the same size plate as 3 slices of garlic bread, with no more than 20 chips!The guy who served us on the bar (his colleague called him Shaun) was miserable and didn’t apologise for the original 10 minute wait to order drinks. He then brought us our food, he wasn’t very friendly. One of the burgers we found a hair in so we asked for a new one, Shaun returned 10 minutes later with a fresh burger but didn’t say a word when he placed it down, no apology or anything. Shaun just doesn’t want to be there, no customer service or any urgency for anything. Just plodding along. The poor woman who he was working with was so stressed and just went red in the face when dealing with complaints (because it wasn’t just us who complained). It wasn’t her fault and i didn’t think she should’ve been left to deal with it. We waited over 30 minutes for our desserts to the point we upped and left and told them don’t bother. The desserts were taken off the bill along with a few drinks and 40% discount which was kindly given by the poor lady who was dealing with all the slack. Not a single clear table around the pub as no one else was working. We had to clear our own dinner dishes off!! There was no polite notice for any delay or any warning they were short staffed. I am surprised around this time of year you expected it to be able to run with just 2 members of staff. When we were leaving, we heard another customer ask “is there a wait for food” to which the woman replied “no there won’t be”. I just hope they’re not still sat there now! Appalled by this visit, i’m sorry to say, this has put me off ever returning again. I hope Shaun finds a smile and i hope the poor lady he was working with gets a rest!

What an absolute shambles of a pub/ restaurant. Booked a table for 7.30 Christmas Eve when we arrived the floor just inside the door covered in crisps food paper and plastic toys. Order are drinks then shown to our table which was still full of dirty plates unfinished food and unfinished drinks. The girl then said to us “ we will be back to clean it “ but waited 10/15 minutes. Ordered food at the bar sat back at our seats looking at the table opposite which was still in the state we found ours ( bearing in mind the place was very quiet, not many in there ) anyway after finishing our meal the company I was in decided they would order dessert so up they go to the bar (this was around 20.50) asked for their dessert only to be told that the kitchen was closed. My wife questioned why and the girl behind the bar said to her “that the kitchen was now closed and in fact I should not have taken your order for food because it lead to me having a blocking )bearing in mind we had booked the table between 19.30 and 21.30 for the purpose of dining …. Anyway enough of that all I would say in conclusion is that the place was a absolute SHAMBLES!!!! Never to return when you have harvester and even Mac Donald’s nearby ☹️👎👎👎

The atmosphere is always great at the bull. We come every week for the pub quiz which is by far the best in Newport. The staff are brilliant and treat us really well. We particularly love Rhi who kicks people off of our table every week.

Atmosphere is always amazing along with food!!! First time coming on a Sunday and having the Sunday roast and it was so tasty!!! Always come down mid week and we can never fault it!! Staff are always there to help. Overall we love coming to the llanwern bull and is our favourite place to eat

Great to nip in for a daytime bar snack/meal.

So we had a table booked at 5:30 on a Sunday 8th December, the people were nice, we ordered our food (1 starter and 2 mains) 1 hour later the manager came over and said we would get a drink on the house for our wait, we hadn't got any food yet! Then after our food finally arrived bare in mind it was not busy at all, we ordered 2 desserts, 50 minutes later they hadn't arrived yet, I had to ask if the desserts were coming or if I could get a refund, no investigation of were the food was they just said to get a refund straight away, we were they until 8:40, for what ?? We went there to celebrate our anniversary and it turned out to be a horrible experience.

Very poor service, only one member of staff behind the bar doing both drinks orders and serving and food orders people everywhere so she was unable to tell who had come first etc, stood at the bar for 15 minutes before getting served. Eventually ordered on the app. Waited 20 minutes for drinks before going to the bar to ask for them. Waited 50 minutes for our food after already waiting 15 minutes to order. One member of our table swopped her fries for chunky chips and this didn’t come with her meal. Didn’t mention it as waited long enough anyway. Waiter came over to our table on 4 different occasions with someone else’s food. When we did get the food it was lovely and isn’t like the service we normally get here. Lady behind the bar was lovely very apologetic which we know wait wasn’t her fault she was trying her best but only one member of staff wasn’t enough.

One of the best pub meals I've ever had. Had a voucher for 30% off mains which was good. Only negative was £7.80 for 2 cokes. Ridiculous.

Having had a bad meal not long ago we decided to try again! What a difference meal was super hot well cooked and the chips were to die for. A good recovery and well worth visiting again

Great pub, plenty of space and good service

My brother and who had Pies etc were sick the same evening. We can only attribute it to something wrong with the Pies or fillings.

Lovely place for food and drink, staff are lovely and very welcoming, pet friendly and reasonably priced.

We pre booked a table and were disappointed that the waiter came back twice to say a particular order was not available, so we had to have another look at the menu. When food was delivered, no cutlery was brought to the table, so we had to ask. This happened every time an order was brought to the table. There were six of us. Some of the drinks were also incorrect from what was ordered. Don't think we will go there again.

My third visit to the Bull I travelled from the west of England and had as always good Pub food. Nice choices and varied so something for every one. Very worth a visit.

Didn’t even get to eat server decided to put a reservation sign on the table we was already sat on and then ask us to move we arrived at 2:15 and the reservation wasn’t even until 7 she also had a terrible attitude

Visited for the quiz on Thursday and the environment is fantastic, every table book and engaged with the quiz. Food is excellent and came out in a timely manner and service was excellent. 100% would recommend this place and on a Thursday is just amazing. Highly recommend booking to ensure that you can get a table.

Ate here earlier in the year & it was good value. Today disappointing . Steak baguette & chips,- no salsa, so onion, couple of small pieces of pepper, no chive on top. Both meals came out looking uninspiring & slung on the plate. No guinness zero, no orange juice, cmon guys, someone dap down Tesco & grab some to get you thro.

Personally I didn't appreciate the loud music transmitted throughout our visit but this didn't worry my wife or daughter.

It was a lovely visit. We were very lucky with the weather so the kids were able to go outside to play on the park. The food was lush as always and arrived promptly. The staff were helpful and friendly. There were 12 of us including kids so there were quite a few of us but that didn’t phase the staff. Will definitely return.

Went with my family here for lunch - the server Rhi was really friendly and helpful when I had an issue with my food - had something removed from my plate which was unwanted. The bartender Cath was lovely and super fast with our drinks. Will definitely return!

We’d booked a table for 1.30 No one greeted us and so had to find our own table. Food was ordered by 1.35. By 2.40 I had to ask what was happening as we had been waiting over an hour and no one had advised there would be a wait. I was told it would be another 10 to 15 minutes without any real explanation or any apology at all. 15 minutes later, with no food in sight I asked for a refund as the delay was now ridiculous. I was advised the food was actually coming out then and I could either take the refund or have the food with a round of drinks on the house as an apology. This was the only time anyone acknowledged there was a problem and the only reason for not scoring 1

This spot is a great place to go for a family meal as there is amazing service. Seren and Taylor our waitress and waiter were amazing they both made sure to bring all our food out as quickly as possible. The food made by dale was exquisite and he made sure to prepare the meals in quick succession so we could all get our food at the same time

This spot is great if you're out with your family! Easy, affordable food for us all. And Seren, the little server, was so welcoming to us, she would always be there if we needed anything, really quick with delivering our food. And the sundaes were TO DIE FOR! Would definitely come again.

Came today. Didn’t realise you would need to reserve a table. Every table was booked. There were tables that were booked for 2 hours later but couldn’t be used. We ordered food and waited and waited and waited. In the end we couldn’t wait any longer and got a refund and left. I think that any venue should warn customers of a wait for food if it’s going to be over an hour.

This spot is great for families for a nice meal out as the food is lovely and so is the service! We were served by a very attentive and polite waitress , I believe her name was Seren . Overall it was a lovely night - made even better by the friendly service

Went in for food with family, when it arrived the scampi was rock solid & so was the chips. I had 2 mushrooms & the onion rings were just a bit bigger than a polo. The steak was tasteless & tuff. Won't be going back .

Lovely food, well cooked and plentiful portions, very efficient service with friendly staff, really felt at ease during the visit and my grandsons enjoyed the burgers and sundae, but the Sunday roast was lovely, one small thing we would have loved roast parsnips but that's a minor, we will definitely be back, many thanks for an enjoyable visit.

Food is always great, staff really happy and friendly, always seems clean and tidy. Nice little park outside to keep the kids busy. We always have a good time here.

Friendly atmosphere for a family visit in the early evening, food was excellent especially the steak and ale pie, everyone in the group were full and didn't need a dessert.

Great little find of the beaten track

We arrived at 7, ordered our food at 7:30 and didn’t receive it until 8:45. We had 3 under 5’s with us and they were really hungry at this point. My husband and I had to check how long the food was going to come out twice. When the food came my auntie had part of her salad missing, which she questioned. The waiter informed her that there was no more left, then 10 minutes later brought out the rest of her salad (quinoa and rice). The salad had old slimely leaves in it, so did not finish it. My husband ordered the surf and turn and his came without the tartare sauce. Overall a very disappointing experience. (Party consisted of 13 adults and 3 children)

Used to be locals but hadn’t visit in a while as felt food wasn’t as good for how much we were paying. However we thought we would give it a go today and ended up leaving half way through our meal with a hungry 8 year old still. My flatbread and fries were rock hard and partners steak was blue and tasted slightly off, littluns korma had two pieces of chicken. We ate the bits we could but one of the waitresses who I can only assume is new then came and took my partners plate while we were still eating. Such a shame as this time last year was a fab place

Most of the tables left with empty glasses and plates (in and outside) the only table I seen get cleared and cleaned was the 1 that a member of staff cleared was the 1 that a member of staff wanted to play poker on, its been a while since I been here and could not believe how the standards have dropped., won't be going back.

Had the steak pie and really enjoyed it

I have been going to the Llanwern bull from the day it first opened every Saturday I take my friend who is 93 years old, he always chooses something from the lunch menu as he finds the main menu food to much for him, today (3/8/24) I ordered fish and chips from the main menu and my friend wanted the gammon from the lunch menu, I was told that I could only have items off the lunch menu on weekdays not on weekends I explained to the manager that we always have been able order meals on the lunch menu in the past he promptly showed me the menu where it stated that lunch menu meals on week days only. So I am guessing that this must be something new that has been introduced by Marsten recently (in the last week) as we were able to order from the lunch menu the previous Saturday. If this is the case could the lunch menu be reinstated for week end as I am sure a lot of pensioners prefer the smaller meals. I regularly frequent a number of Marsten pub/restaurants in my area such as the Green house, fox and hounds And Blaine wharf, we have always enjoyed the food and service at these establishments. Hope you will consider my request GMJ JONES
