Staff were really friendly and the food was great!

Visited for the quiz on Thursday and the environment is fantastic, every table book and engaged with the quiz. Food is excellent and came out in a timely manner and service was excellent. 100% would recommend this place and on a Thursday is just amazing. Highly recommend booking to ensure that you can get a table.

Personally I didn't appreciate the loud music transmitted throughout our visit but this didn't worry my wife or daughter.

It was a lovely visit. We were very lucky with the weather so the kids were able to go outside to play on the park. The food was lush as always and arrived promptly. The staff were helpful and friendly. There were 12 of us including kids so there were quite a few of us but that didn’t phase the staff. Will definitely return.

Absolutely amazing service Bar staff and waitress were super friendly amd helpful We were having a double birthday celebration my daughters 23rd and our friends 40th We ordered 9 meals and we only waited about 20mins super fast and meals were lush deffo no complaints Would definitely come back weather for a celebration or just for food and drink Keep up the good work From a very happy customer 😀

Went with my family here for lunch - the server Rhi was really friendly and helpful when I had an issue with my food - had something removed from my plate which was unwanted. The bartender Cath was lovely and super fast with our drinks. Will definitely return!

We’d booked a table for 1.30 No one greeted us and so had to find our own table. Food was ordered by 1.35. By 2.40 I had to ask what was happening as we had been waiting over an hour and no one had advised there would be a wait. I was told it would be another 10 to 15 minutes without any real explanation or any apology at all. 15 minutes later, with no food in sight I asked for a refund as the delay was now ridiculous. I was advised the food was actually coming out then and I could either take the refund or have the food with a round of drinks on the house as an apology. This was the only time anyone acknowledged there was a problem and the only reason for not scoring 1

Came today. Didn’t realise you would need to reserve a table. Every table was booked. There were tables that were booked for 2 hours later but couldn’t be used. We ordered food and waited and waited and waited. In the end we couldn’t wait any longer and got a refund and left. I think that any venue should warn customers of a wait for food if it’s going to be over an hour.

This spot is great if you're out with your family! Easy, affordable food for us all. And Seren, the little server, was so welcoming to us, she would always be there if we needed anything, really quick with delivering our food. And the sundaes were TO DIE FOR! Would definitely come again.

This spot is a great place to go for a family meal as there is amazing service. Seren and Taylor our waitress and waiter were amazing they both made sure to bring all our food out as quickly as possible. The food made by dale was exquisite and he made sure to prepare the meals in quick succession so we could all get our food at the same time

This spot is great for families for a nice meal out as the food is lovely and so is the service! We were served by a very attentive and polite waitress , I believe her name was Seren . Overall it was a lovely night - made even better by the friendly service

Went in for food with family, when it arrived the scampi was rock solid & so was the chips. I had 2 mushrooms & the onion rings were just a bit bigger than a polo. The steak was tasteless & tuff. Won't be going back .

Food took ages to come and was cold on arrival, must of been sitting in kitchen for ages before being brought out really disappointed

Lovely food, well cooked and plentiful portions, very efficient service with friendly staff, really felt at ease during the visit and my grandsons enjoyed the burgers and sundae, but the Sunday roast was lovely, one small thing we would have loved roast parsnips but that's a minor, we will definitely be back, many thanks for an enjoyable visit.

Food is always great, staff really happy and friendly, always seems clean and tidy. Nice little park outside to keep the kids busy. We always have a good time here.

Staff were helpful and friendly. The food was top-notch, lovely fluffy Yorkshire puddings, and crispy roasted potatoes, the beef was melt in the mouth, would highly recommended 😋

Friendly atmosphere for a family visit in the early evening, food was excellent especially the steak and ale pie, everyone in the group were full and didn't need a dessert.

Great little find of the beaten track

We arrived at 7, ordered our food at 7:30 and didn’t receive it until 8:45. We had 3 under 5’s with us and they were really hungry at this point. My husband and I had to check how long the food was going to come out twice. When the food came my auntie had part of her salad missing, which she questioned. The waiter informed her that there was no more left, then 10 minutes later brought out the rest of her salad (quinoa and rice). The salad had old slimely leaves in it, so did not finish it. My husband ordered the surf and turn and his came without the tartare sauce. Overall a very disappointing experience. (Party consisted of 13 adults and 3 children)

Used to be locals but hadn’t visit in a while as felt food wasn’t as good for how much we were paying. However we thought we would give it a go today and ended up leaving half way through our meal with a hungry 8 year old still. My flatbread and fries were rock hard and partners steak was blue and tasted slightly off, littluns korma had two pieces of chicken. We ate the bits we could but one of the waitresses who I can only assume is new then came and took my partners plate while we were still eating. Such a shame as this time last year was a fab place

Most of the tables left with empty glasses and plates (in and outside) the only table I seen get cleared and cleaned was the 1 that a member of staff cleared was the 1 that a member of staff wanted to play poker on, its been a while since I been here and could not believe how the standards have dropped., won't be going back.

Had the steak pie and really enjoyed it

I have been going to the Llanwern bull from the day it first opened every Saturday I take my friend who is 93 years old, he always chooses something from the lunch menu as he finds the main menu food to much for him, today (3/8/24) I ordered fish and chips from the main menu and my friend wanted the gammon from the lunch menu, I was told that I could only have items off the lunch menu on weekdays not on weekends I explained to the manager that we always have been able order meals on the lunch menu in the past he promptly showed me the menu where it stated that lunch menu meals on week days only. So I am guessing that this must be something new that has been introduced by Marsten recently (in the last week) as we were able to order from the lunch menu the previous Saturday. If this is the case could the lunch menu be reinstated for week end as I am sure a lot of pensioners prefer the smaller meals. I regularly frequent a number of Marsten pub/restaurants in my area such as the Green house, fox and hounds And Blaine wharf, we have always enjoyed the food and service at these establishments. Hope you will consider my request GMJ JONES

Pub quiz cancelled at short notice. Pizza menus out in display to be read only to be told no pizzas could be made when I went to order at bar - just take them off to avoid confusion. No cider on tap. 45 minute wait for food which in reality was 1 hour When I asked for cutlery I was told I could collect my own from front door. Pool cues falling apart. I think each employee is trying their best but it is a poorly managed place that leaves a lot to be desired.

Been here many times and had a great experience. Really felt today for my grandsons birthday was disappointing. The place was quiet as it was a Monday lunchtime but still felt the male member of staff that served us was in the wrong job. Firstly I asked for a receipt of my bill as it seemed more that I was expecting to be told "sorry I can't print it off as it's broken" so no receipt was given. Food turned up with cutterly and had one serviette in there for four of us so had to ask for more. The vegetarian nachos with the chilli turned up and had just salsa and cheese and no chilli on the dish. Another trip back to the bar and the same member of staff just took the plate and made no apologies or showed any concern just went of to the kitchen. He returned 10 minutes later with the chilli placed on the top of the same plate and no conversation or apology from the staff member. I really thought hospitality was putting the customer first and being friendly and enthusiastic. I also made a quick visit to the bathroom but was surprised as to how messy they were. There was rubbish on the floor empty toilet rolls everywhere on the floor with two of the toilets having no loo roll in there. Won't be going back here anytime soon.

Visited this pub for first time, food was lovely, staff were busy but friendly and polite, had a really nice evening, well worth a visit.

New management and their remaining staff are absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for making my family feel so welcome on our first visit! We'll definitely be back! X

Food is quite nice but seems to be a problem with staffing levels as things are not tidied very quickly and rubbish tends to be left on the floor. The place would also benefit from being decorated. Saying this, the staff that are there were very nice and do their best

Lovely looking pub which has potential. The drinks we had didn’t have any consistency the one server did a single vodka and Pepsi perfect but the 2nd one did so much Pepsi I had to pay £3.85 for an extra shot of vodka rather than just change the drink for a smaller amount of Pepsi. I wouldn’t recommend the lunch menu as the portions even thought cost £7.50 are smaller than a happy meal from McDonald’s and the oil needed changing as chips were full of little black bits from the bottom of the chip pan. The atmosphere in there was great though

Called in for Sunday lunch, only turkey available, which was fine, but was missing pigs in blankets and cranberry sauce when delivered 🤔

Food best I've had in long time, service good but order not followed to instructions but have same issue in most eateries.

Food was good when it eventually arrived, but there was a family with extremely noisy children that was not only ruining it for us, but for others as well. The other family should have been asked to reduce the noise level, or to leave rather than asking others to move to another table to continue their meal.

Food was ok, it used to be better! Considering they weren't busy with food orders we waited nearly an hour. In terms of atmosphere staff allowed a bunch of children sit on their own away from their parents making so much noise we couldn't hear each other talk so had to rush our late meal so we could move to a quieter party of the pub. We weren't the only ones changing table either, I would have expected the staff to control the issue rather than just move us and others to other tables.

Great service from the team even when busy! Lovely food and range on the menu to suit everyone! Desserts were great as well. Definitely a good idea to book a table as the pub was really busy and seating is limited

Great atmosphere, lovely place but my food was disgusting, my steak smelt like dog food and it was burnt on the outside which tasted disgusting. Also many flies inside which was not nice, fighting the flies for my food, i understand summer and flies but this was stupid!. Won’t be coming again sorry.

Booked a week in advance to be told it was cancelled when it wasn't. then played musical tables because thay kept putting us on booked tables. Just to finish it off thay took almost two hours to give it our food. Absolutely shocking hospitality and service. Avoid at all costs

The manager and chef wS extremely helpful in organising our meal. I am gluten free and they was extremely helpful in pointing out what I could and could not have from the menu. The service was fast and all the staff very accommodating.

We had a great meal the plastic cutlery was fab for the children They loved both play areas The food was lovely and the bar staff was lovely helping me put a candle in for my daughters birthday Only negative was I ordered a coffee but it never arrived- wouldn't put me off returning though.

You can’t beat the atmosphere in Llanwern Bull; always relaxed and friendly. It doesn’t matter how busy it is Kane and the team work really hard to make you feel welcome and valued. The food comes out hot and tasty, it can be slow to come out but that’s only at very busy times. Dedicated play area (inside and out) for the kids to let off some steam. Can’t fault the place. Would 100% recommend

Sunday lunch was ok missing items service was sub par as never came back to ask if food was ok.

The staff confirmed they have a dedicated fryer for gluten free food, which as someone with coeliac disease is so good to hear!

We booked our table online which was easy to do with an emailed confirmation. On arrival there was no meet and greet to show us to our table, we weren't sure what to do as no signs so joined the queue at the bar. The young lady behind the bar asked if we had booked, which we confirmed and was I formed she would check once the laptop had booted up !! Once she had the information, she confirmed our booking and pointed across the room to where our table was. When we sat down the table still had bits of food on it from the previous occupants and the table and menus were sticky to the touch. We, like others in the room used a cloth and a spray bottle of fabulosa to wipe our table down. Ordering of food was easy enough and our order taken though I did find it unusual that it wasn't confirmed back to me. I ordered mixed grill with a medium cooked steak but was disappointed to see that the meats on the plate were all slightly burnt on the outside. My gf's hunters chicken was cooked to her liking. After we finished our meal I ordered another round of drinks at the bar. I know we all have bad days and wish we weren't in work etc but on both occasions I visited the bar and was served by the same young man he never spoke to me ref my order, or even confirmed what I owe him, I had to use the screen on the till for that. Surely if you choose hospitality as a career move then please be hospitable We didn't try the bathroom as we felt the tables and menu condition were enough of an example of what we may expect. There was plenty of car parking spaces and outside seating too though most were occupied due to the sunny weather we had.

It was a weekend but very loud with football on the TV and the football fans shouting like they were at the actual match

Very average experience, need to up their game, firstly ordered drinks and was a bit bewildered why the draft lemonade on came in pint servings??? Never heard of that before and obviously a tactic to milk more money out of our custom, this doesn’t leave us with a good feeling when considering it again. Only wanted a light snack, nachos and wings, no guacamole with the nachos, basic ingredients and should probably keep a better eye on stock, no offer of a discount. Food tasted ok, just felt a little let down. Will try again in the future but if it’s the same experience then probably leave it there.

Excellent service with the time our meals were served. We all ordered different meals but all enjoyed our food. The fish and scampi were cooked perfect as well as the pie and curry. Will definitely return again.

Food and staff attitude awful ! Busy Friday night unable to cope.

Busy on arrival & told to find a table and order at the bar. After we located a table, we used the QR code on the table & ordered through that. Within 5 minutes, drinks were delivered & within a further 10 minutes, food was served. Hot & cooked perfectly. Staff also, couldn’t do more to assist. Will definitely visit again.

There was one gentleman who worked here (likely the manager) who made the whole thing. Top bloke!

Arrived at lunchtime, the table we initially went to hadn't been cleaned from previous diners. Menu choice was okay, special menu and light bites. On ordering we were told our choice was off the menu... Three out of four meals arrived together the fourth meal was a littler later which the staff did apologise for. Overall a okay experience.

Very underwhelming experience, food was average at best,

It was only for drinks, but the seating had been reserved and was great, the only drawback was we were seated by the tv that is used for the quiz and some guy came over and started trying to turn it on, didn't say excuse me, just leaned over and tried to turn it on. We found this rude. My stepson found the plug and switched it on so the guy then proceeded to flip the channels. We had booked til 8.15pm, but left earlier because of this guy and the tv situation. But lovely evening and the play area was a hit with the kids.

The food was good. However, the drinks were expensive (over £7 for two large Pepsi max). Even with the 30% the meals weren't much cheaper the comparable venues.
