Called in with my partner and mother & decided to grab a coffee and a scone! I love scones and I am getting to try them in all kinds of places! Tee Hee!! Well, I was met with a mountain of the biggest scones I have come across in my scone searching travels I can tell you! I promptly picked the best looking scone I could see! I cannot say this was not without a sense of trepidation. All too often, I find places that try to wow us with massive items for sale which sadly fail to satisfy us. All pomp and no substance. But I'm glad to say not here, no sir! The scone was lovely, a 9 out of 10 (If it was warm - a 10 you would have scored) All the same, Lovely Maybe I'll have to come back and try some other menu items, Once I have finished my search for the best scone!!! Thanks & well done - great place!

Really disappointed, change in menu isn't for the better. Salad is just a large pile of leaves and a topping now. Not even cucumber and tomato anymore. I used to go here all the time with friends but we are going to find a new venue to meet up, having tried this a couple of times since the new menu.

Very disappointing. We had sandwiches and the garnish was a little bit of watercress where it used to be a salad garnish. The Crisps were almost crumbs barely the size of a finger nail and the chips were scooped out almost like mini skins. Waited ages for the food to come out and when queried was told hot food comes first and sandwiches can't be made until the paninis are served. So order of service is not related to when we ordered and paid.

I've been twice recently, both early afternoon (13.15 and 14.00) and on both visits there were no cheese or plain scones left. When I asked if there might be any more later I was given a very abrupt "no". The staff here used to be really friendly and helpful. You say to raise concerns or give feedback during the visit, but to be honest I wouldn't want to if that's the response.

Visited for Birthday cream tea, to find one sad scone was left. As the special cream tea Perspex sign advertising these was on display we asked the young lady waiting to serve us, if there were any scones put aside for these teas. We were abruptly told no as they are too busy to bake any more and once they are gone they are gone. We mentioned this had happened last time we were there and her answer was: 'there are lots of cakes available so it's not like there isn't anything else'. Then obviously walked off muttering to a colleague something about us. I note that you say raise concerns at the time and they will be addressed. Basically if there are no scones, there are no scones so nothing could be done apart from take the sign down, maybe apologise instead of putting us in our place and take note that stock management is missing a trick as I would assume this is a popular afternoon treat for people. No worries as lots of other places to go.

When I meet my friend in Devon we always come here for food. The food here is delicious and a small sized portion is just enough for us, although it seems rather pricey for a small one. We visit this garden centre 2 to 3 times a week. It hasagood menu, reasonably priced and usually produces the best fruit scones in the South West. Lately, we have noticed a change in attitude of some of the staff members, and the scones are regularly under baked. There must a aultan shortage as well. Because my fruit scone today had approx 5 sultanas in it. It was more like a plain scone and it was well underbaked. Change of staff perhaps. We sincerely hope that this is rectified soon.

Our family recently had lunch at St. JOHNS . We have been here on many occasions and have been very satisfied. However on this occasion my elderly mother had cause to complain that part of her cooked lunch was cold. She asked if it could be reheated. The waitress response to my Mum was quite stern. She took her lunch away. After 20 minutes she had not received her lunch. By this time tge rest of us had almost finished our meal. Again my mother politely asked where her lunch was. She was told they were making her a fresh one. Approximately 10 minutes later another waitress brought out her lunch and banged the plate down in front of her and not very courteously in fact said rudely," Be careful the plate is very hot. There was no apology for the cold food! A very disappointing Luncheon experience for an Elderly lady. Come on St. JOHNS, your staff's manners need to be improved.

We popped in to St John's to have a look at their flowers and displays. We had spent so long looking around, as it was lunch time we decided to take a pit stop and have some lunch. It was a much bigger restaurant than I imagined and so much seating. Being a Sunday there was a carvery on which seemed to be more than popular! As we were only looking for a light lunch, we decided on a panini each. Well, light lunch is not on the cards in St John's it seems. The paninis were amazing. So we'll prepared and yummy but also served with the tastiest side salad I have ever had and some chips. We had looked at the delicious cakes, but after gorging ourselves on a fully loaded hot chocolate and the paninis fit for a king, we just had to say no. We were too stuffed to carry on with our shopping do will to return again and sample some more of their menu & try again!

I was so disappointed nothing like it used to be Appreciate the cost of produce going up but instead of having a sandwich packed with good quality gammon ham it was barely a slice of paper thin ham with fat on. Served with a token bit of lettuce & small home made veg crisps made from veg peelings which were soft The relish is delish but again portion massively reduced - previously served with I nice side salad a good handful of crisps & nice portion of relish with the gammon ham of course! Brilliant fruit scones with delicious jam and very decadent clotted cream. Lots of tea and coffee washed the meal down...wow! Sat in the conservatory and enjoyed the sunshine.

Popped in for a quick lunch with my mum on our break, we both had ham sandwiches, the ham was really thick and so good!! It was well presented with a nice side salad, I've eaten here a few times now and never been disappointed!

The St Johns Garden Centre is a large area with a lot of parking. There are also associated shops on the site. The restaurant area is large and spacious. It is also child friendly with high chairs available. There is a large menu with many meals featuring local produce and of course a West Country theme. The food is freshly prepared and served to the table. Hot food is hot. The portions are of a very good size. For young children there is an small exhibit by the restaurant where they can walk in Jungleland. On Sundays there is also a carvery operating. A great place for a meal in a relaxed atmosphere.

As I was meeting my friend she asked if we could meet here. Not being from the area I usually park in Tesco and walk across but I decided I would try and find the proper car park. I would not have found it without my sat nav but I think I would find it again now. The cafe is spacious and clean. I had a ploughman's lunch which was enormous but didnt realise you could order a small main meal, which is intended for a child, or i would have done that. Staff are friendly, service great. i just wish I'd had time to look round the store afterwards

Arrived here to have breakfast a group of us,only to be told had to wait outside of restaurant as didn't open for 10mins,bearing in mind its winter and kids with us,where is the harm of getting a table to wait? On getting in the restaurant it was freezing in there, where was the heating?! The breakfast wasn't worth it at all not impressive, poor quality and price over the top, extra bacon £1 a rasher day light robbery! Wouldn't eat there again!

We had two cream teas; which included one scone, jam, cream and a small pot of tea for one. The setting is very pleasant (we sat in the rear conservatory). Staff are friendly and helpful. Portion size of jam and cream were good and nicely presented in little glass pots. Scone was a little small though warm and fluffy and very tasty. Jam tasted a little cheap. Overall a positive experience and I would definitely recommend.

Went to St Johns to see Father Christmas with our daughters , we all enjoyed Father Christmas and it was good value, we then decided to have lunch in the cafeteria we all had jacket potatoes with various fillings, my wife and I had the chilli bean , no taste of chilli just overwhelmed by the taste of tomato, over all the food was a poor quality and over priced for self service, I informed a member of staff that I had paid twice for my coffee which she agreed , she took my receipt and said she would rectify it , that's the last I saw of her. Father Christmas good value , the cafeteria poor and expensive

Used to come here every week, for several years. Half the Jungle Land has disappeared and the restaurant has got pricey. It all seems like one big department store instead of the specialist nursery and peaceful place it once was when one could spend a quiet and pleasant time relaxing and choosing plants. It has got hectic.

One of the best Sunday carveries that we have experienced, with a wide range of vegetables & meat; welcoming staff, especially Kim & Wendy, nothing was too much bother

Location wise excellent. Unfortunately, this tired old looking pub has definitely seen better days! Need of major investment, but it would definitely be worth it. Years ago, this pub was full of customers all of the time.

Bad first (not that bad ..😆) A bit old and dated, dispite the newish tile panelling Batter was nice but a little oily on the fish (soaked into the batter) The good.. HUGE battered fish - (suggest you just get the small one) cooked perfectly Sirloin steak was tender and cooked perfectly (ordered medium) I was pleasantly surprised on the quality, as it's a basic takeaway with a restaurant attached and it was under £20, so no top steak restaurant - but kudos to the chef, best £20 steak I've had, and better than some classier $$$$ places I've been, For that £20 I also got onion rings (perfect), salad - quality greens, few cut up bits of capsicum a couple of mushrooms, tomato, fried tomato too and plenty of chips cooked perfectly and very nice. (but best chips in UK I've had is at Lochgilphead - Scotland) Constructive criticism only - I was VERY happy given the price, Way better than a lot of places I've been to so far in the UK, and would definitely eat the same dishes again. Staff were friendly... This is at the end of the tourist season too. (Oct'24)

Me & my partner came here on 5/9/24 on a very rainy day. We both grabbed a little drink and a treat here and relaxed in the lovely cafe after a long wet walk from Croyde bay. The staff here were wonderful and all really lovely! The millionaires shortbread was the best I’ve ever had and the cheesy chips were delicious! There is a wide variety of drinks to choose from, both hot and cold. Really lovely vibes and will definitely come here again!
