St Johns Fish Bar in Warwick

£11 for cod that must have been put in the freezer years ago. Very very poor.

The best fish and chips in the area. Always fresh, generous portions, friendly staff.

Used to go here and the food was good but unfortunately has gone down hill. The kebab was dry and me and my partner both agreed the chips was mushy and oily. The women that served us seemed to be very inexperienced and did not seem eager to learn. We won’t be coming back.

Food was barely warm. Certainly not freshly cooked. The fish and the chips had obviously stood around for some time. Mushy peas had no taste whatsoever.

Still the best around after all these years.

Still the best Fish & Chips in Warwickshire. I live closer to other chip shops but it's worth driving the extra 10 mins into Warwick

The food was basic and poor. The only decent thing about the chicken burger was the salad that came with it! It was way over priced for a cheap patty with no flavour.

Popped in after a day at the castle. Everyone wanted Mcdonalds but I fancied Fish & Chips. In the town with loads of free parking at the front. Service was super quick and the lady serving was lovely. They have loads of deals, I went for the mini fish, sausage, chips and a drink for £8.50. It was huge and delicious! Wrapped up with salt and vinegar!

Used to love this place, the staff are still amazing but the switch to cardboard boxes and Uber eats etc has left it lacking, have had a few recently as wanted to be sure wasn’t just a bad day but after a good few visits now I regretfully have to say I miss the pre covid version, chips are cooked at too low a temp meaning when salad on top it just soaks through them, donner meat is now cut thickly and end up spitting gristle out every other strip which pretty much never happened before, it’s still better than many near by as doesn’t taste of chemicals but the quality has nosedived while price has skyrocketed, used to be a much loved treat, now I don’t think I’ll ever go again which is a shame after 15 years of loving this place, seems like they’ve joined others in putting increased profit ahead of quality

Doner kebab was shocking. Service was shocking. food was rubish. I will leave a photo so people can see Doner was tastless and so thick and it was shockig to eat and i was charged 7.90 for this rubish food. 👎🤮

Food was cooked fresh to order and was really tasty and good quality. The place was spotless and the people we spoke to were extremely friendly and helpful. Couldn't be better.

Terrible chips. We used to always get chips from here and either we've been spoiled by our new local chippy or St John's standards have gone downhill, but the chips were hard and just awful. I had the chicken and chips and the chicken wasn't great either. I don't think we'll be going back. Shame really

Wow what a find - you deserve the title 'award winning' and your 5 stars hygiene. Totally caught us by surprise on our way driving 'past' from Heathrow on a long journey up north. With post holiday blues and in need of food x 2 fish n chips hit the spot - we genuinely enjoyed our meal, tasty batter, beautiful fish and perfect chips. Highly recommend - and you are in our favourites for the next time we are passing!

The staff was friendly, bubbly and very helpful.i had a large cod and cone of chips every thing was absolutely bang on . Every one must aleast try it once you will not be disappointed. Enjoy yum. Yum

Good fish and chips - my fish was bit to oily and had too much batter but overall good. Kebab good as well. Portions ok - not too much and enough to fill your stomach.

I have a house in Warwick but live in Devon for work. I drive from Devon to St Johns to have Thier fish and chips, scallops, fried chicken, and kebabs. There are great places in Devon like Rock Fish buy St Johns is the best. Only open till 9pm though so be quick. It's a circa 200mile drive but when I taste those chips and the superlative fish cooked fresh, its worth the drive.

Only had 4 PC chicken but for a chippy it was excellent very busy do I'd imagine everything as good all looked superb 👌

I was with my partner and some friends we had been out to visit Clarksons farm feeling hungry on the way back we came into the town of Warwick we was looking for a chippy and seen St.Johns Fish Bar.. that when it went downhill my partner wanted naked sausage and chips that was ok two of us had just cod mushy peas and gravy and mate had fish and chips.. The staff didt make us welcome one member who served me I had to tell her what I wanted four times and then her boss had to do the order.. got back into the car to enjoy our food.. all three of us said the batter was very bland and the fish had no taste and didt looked cooked enough and the size of a large fish was about 2in wide but fitted in the box that cost £9 the gravy was poor and peas cold.. if this place had an award for the food we all said the only place for the food was the bin .. very expensive for me and my partner the bill came to just over £24 for small naked sausage and small chips/ so called large fish gravy and peas plus two bottles of drink .. definitely won't be back this place was a joke

This is my favourite chippy. The food is delicious no matter what you order and the chips are like heaven.. spot on everytime like proper seaside chips!! We don't live in Warwick either so we travel here knowing our food will always be fantastic. Thank you St John's fish bar

Best fish n chips and even fried chicken within Leamington and Warwick! And Kenilworth! The latter is closer to me but I still go to St Johns to get my fish n’ chips! Highly recommended!! On a diet atm and having withdrawal symptoms…

I popped in the other day and was charged £9 for chips and two sausage in batter. And I've just looked at the menu on just eat and it should have come to £6.10?

Need to update my review as the past 2 times ive been here the food has gone down hill. The chips are as if they are stale and cold, portion size has dropped for the price you pay. Kebab meat is hard,dry, and cold. Unfortunately we wont be back again and im disappointment to be honest. We usually spend £35 + a time aswell. Great food and always served with a smile. Great place

Been living in Bristol for 13 years, was visting Warwick castle and decided to pop in with my son, had large kebab meat & chips, and chips for the little fella…£13 !! ….best part is the owner recognised me, had a good chat with him and his colleague, same friendly staff & atmosphere, good quality food and portions, some things don’t change….but for all the right reasons 👍👍

Fantastic fish and chips, but also does all the extras just as well. We had a slight issue with our order today which was fixed quickly and professionally. My boys love the kids meals, especially the extras that come with them. All in all a great place with good service.

We have been using St.Johns Fishbar for many years, it is our go to chippy. Never had a bad thing to say about the food apart from today, I have to say the chips were very over cooked and not very warm at all, plus an extremely small amount for a large portion. I’m hoping this is a one off and will give them another try.

Quality has dropped lately. Used to be best chippy in town but have gotten measly on portion sizes and too expensive. Upon getting home (2 minute drive) chips we’re pretty cold (fish was still hot but quite soggy) Was so so. Not bad enough to throw out but not good enough to enjoy. Been going here for 7 years but think it’s time for a change.

Love this chip shop I actually travel from my home in a totally separate region for this chippee it’s by far one of the best Chippee there are and the atmosphere is always on point but more so the food is the tastiest and freshest

We had the fish and chips (cod and haddock) and chicken. Would highly recommend a visit. The chips were perfectly done, as was the fish and chicken was nicely seasoned. Enjoyed ours with chili sauce and garlic mayo. Only thing is I would have enjoyed them more if a portion of the chips weren't drenched in the sauces and instead the sauce came in a little thing on the side. Otherwise lovely and would definitely come back

The staff were either extremely welcoming and chatty or very disinterested it depends on who you get to serve you. The food was good quality but the price tag was a little above the norm.

BEWARE. The prices they have on their website are not you will be charged if you pop in for a fish supper. The actual prices are at least 36% higher. Just a scam to get you in there.

Since when should a highly priced mini piece of fish be brown and slimey just because (its the end of the fish)... that disgusting the wife took it back on a busy saturday night. Instead of new shop fits, and serving food in fancy boxes how about sourcing better produce or realising some stuff should just be thrown away. For a place that does a lot of trade, pretty unbelievable.

This is the best fish and chip shop in the Warwick area and I've tried a fair few! The chips are always tasty as are the kebabs, fish and everything else, we've definitely eaten are way around the menu. We've only ever had one bad experience where we paid for but were missing an item, however after speaking to them they put this right for us. They do get very busy here at weekends so go early. The staff are always friendly and the food is always freshly prepared, if they don't have something they will let you know how long it'll be before it's ready. They also do collection orders.

I bought 2 x haddock and chips last week and sadly as soon as we cut them open, both haddocks gave off a foul smell and we couldnt eat them. It had clearly gone off. The batter was extremely thick/stodgy and greasy too (notice this several times here as of late). I will not buy fish here from now on. Shame, as the chips were good.

Very nice cod and scampi, really enjoyed them. Bit of a shame for the service as my two cod fillets were wrapped just in a paper, with no box. This meant that when I went to unwrap them, the cod was literally glued on the paper. This is also not ideal in case you wanted to have it outside.

UPDATE: this has now happened twice. I no longer come here. Normally have a good experience here but this time was very disappointing. I asked for a medium cod and chips but got told they were out of medium cod - I could have large or "mini". The mini cod looked pathetic so I asked for large cod with small chips. The portion of cod is the smallest I have ever had there and the chip portion was definitely small. The only positive to being charged more money for less food than I normally get there is that the quality was up to its usual standards. Please do better next time - I feel fleeced. If you need to put up your prices, at least be honest abou it.

Great takeaway service. Owner let me buy the leftovers at a discounted price. All tasted awesome. I went back the next day to show appreciation, bought a doner kebab and it was perfect just the way one would expect. Hardly any fat on it and a good size for the price. Thanks and will buy again when I'm in the area. Just a note, the owner tells me his Fish & Chip shop is in the 50 in the UK. I can believe it.

We are regulars to St Johns and normally receive really good food. We arrived 15 minutes before closing to just get our usual; salad kebab and doner meat. However, almost everything was already put away and we had to change our order as there was limited stock out. Instead, we ordered sausage and chips and a salad kebab and specifically asked for no onion. We live round the corner but by the time we got home the pitta was very soggy because the salad was dripping wet (it’s never been like this before!) and the lettuce was basically the shreds off the end of an ice burg lettuce that normally gets thrown away. There was barely any sauce and it was rushed and careless. We also were given lots of onion (which we asked for it to be without!) This is a concern if someone has allergies! Normally our order is great which is why we go there all the time but this was really disappointing. I ended up not eating it as it was practically inedible and all I had was £4 worth of salad!

LOVE the chicken meat and chips from here, it's definitely my go to takeaway and every time I have been it's been delightful! Really tasty food, lovely friendly service and very fast as well! Food isn't expensive given the portion sizes you get. Only critique is on the last visit the chicken was dry and the chips were soggy but I'm hoping that was a one off fluke as it's been faultless every other time! Will definitely not stop me from returning

Really poor meal - large cod was tiny, chips tasteless, illuminous green mushy peas and so expensive. Wish we'd gone to our favourite Chip Shed like we usually do. Will not be returning here.
