St James Social Club in Wigan

This is a brilliant venue for a party, nothing too much trouble and I am fussy! Buffet was excellent, lost of positive guest comments, china plates and Silver cutlery. Lovely staff who helped set up/take down, beautiful and clean. Couldn't fault it, and a credit to the owners.

**DO NOT BOOK THE BUFFET FROM HERE, GET AN EXTERNAL CATERER**!!!!! We payed 13 pound head for the buffet, and apparently we paid for 65 but they catered for 68! When it came, me personally, i had 2 sandwich triangles, a pork pie, a skinny slice of quiche, 5 chunky chip, 2 snack sausage rolls, a chicken drumstuck and a chicken skewer! All this for 13 pound WOW! They ran out of food and blamed people over eating yet, at least 10 people didnt even get a plate as there was probably 30 chicken drumsticks and 30 chicken skewers between 65 people!??? Absolite disgusting, when i asked if more food was coming out i was told that they catered for more than enough, but yet, having ran out of food people qere paying to order food! Avoid this like the plague and since the takeover it as gone downhill and the manager wasnt even bothered!

Kids and owner doing drugs, they sell food which is disgusting , vile place thought it would have been good due to the area but this place is awful

Second visit but with my family this time. We all had the full English which was cooked to order and excellent. 2 of almost everything with good quality products.

We decided to try the breakfast having heard good things. Arrived at 10:15am and ordered by 10:20am. Not much choice - nothing special like avocado or eggs Benedict etc. just full breakfasts and breakfast sandwiches. Ordered two full breakfast with an extra hash brown instead of black pudding and a sausage and egg barmcake. Drinks arrived 20 mins later and then food arrived a further 25 mins after that. Not busy so not sure what the delay was. Food was lukewarm at best, but tasted okay. No extra hash brown, had to ask for them. Also breakfast sandwich came on toast when we’d asked for a barmcake. Probs won’t return to be honest.

I came across on facebook and decided to try. Very nice refurbished social club with pleasant interior. I had a full breakfast which is not the biggest they serve but was still huge and really well cooked and presented. It comprised 2 bacon, 2 sausage,2 eggs, black pudding,2 Hash browns, mushrooms, beans, plum tomatoes and 2 slices of toast. Everything is cooked fresh to order. This was my first visit but will certainly not be my last. Very large adjoining car park as well.
