St Bart's Brewery in City of London, Westminster

I’ve been here about 10 times with friends and/or colleagues and each time it’s been disappointing. Most of the times that we go, it’s fairly quiet but the service is always bad/slow. When we went for lunch today, we waited for over 10 minutes but no one came to take our order. We then had to try to flag down a waiter several times before anyone paid any attention. The first two times we were told “okay one minute”, and then the waiters carried on chatting amongst themselves. It wasn’t even busy! The food is mediocre at best. When it came to paying, the same thing - when I tried to pay, two staff members just kept chatting amongst themselves even though they could see we were waiting to pay. In the end I had to say “I need to pay and leave” and only then did one guy come over to take payment, but he (short brunette guy with a beard/moustache) was rude and told me “I’m training staff, sometimes you have to wait”. We won’t return.

The website gives the impression of a civilised restaurant, but when we walked in we were faced with very loud music and what is actually a traditional pub. This is NOT what I expected from the photos on the website. There is no table service and you have to order food at the bar. The food was actually brought out quickly after ordering and the Double Cheeseburger I had was good though rather pricey at £17. But the noise level made conversation very difficult and I would definitely NOT return

I pre-booked an Event here to host retirement lunch drinks for a few work colleagues, and was told I had to pre-pay based on a guesstimate of number of people who would turn up. Not wanting to "under-guess", I agreed to pay £150 and was assured any monies not used would be refunded to me. On the day in question, the total bar bill came to just £90 - however the Bar Manager then flatly refused to refund the difference to me saying she couldn't do that, as it would result in her tills not balancing! This is ridiculous and after some lengthy discussion, during which she clearly was not going to refund a penny of the £60 owed to me, she provided me with 1 bottle of, surprise surprise, "Balfour" (coincidence in the name?) white wine, which I have since seen retails at just £34.99. She kept claiming she couldn't balance her books if she refunded me £60 from the £150 I'd already paid by credit card. I work nearby, for a large Investment Management Company, and would strongly recommend people in this area avoid this bar unless you enjoy giving your money away for literally nothing. Clearly the Bar Management and Bar Owners need to be aware that if people pay "up front" for drinks in advance for things like an Event (which you have to do to secure an area in the bar to use), they should make it absolutely clear that any under-use of the monies paid will not be refunded, although I was assured when I paid the £150 a couple of weeks ago, anything not used would be repaid to my credit card. To be given a cheap bottle of wine as "compensation" which doesn't even cover the £60 is also an insult; but apparently that's the only way she could balance her books. Really? If the Bar's Accountants read this - could they perhaps investigate how those books are actually balanced vs stock on the premises since I paid for £60's worth of drink I didn't have, and by giving me a bottle of wine I can buy for £34.99 that means I'm still "out of pocket" by £25.01 (and I don't even like wine). I'm no mathematician, but am out of pocket and so am leaving a review on Trip Advisor and other Review sites to save some other person being caught out like this.

We were booked to play at Balfour St Barts for Meinhardt UK's Christmas party. All the staff were really friendly and our DJ and Sax player had a great time! Next time we are passing we will definitely pop in for a few cold beers. Great atmosphere and venue in London!!!

Benn and I held our wedding here last weekend and it was absolutely brilliant from start to finish. Matilda the events manager was just amazing, so attentive and quick to respond to any questions we had. She even managed to help us coordinate a blessing in the pub! The venue looked stunning, decorated in fairy lights, and everyone said how amazing the food was and how attentive the staff were. We can't thank the Balfour team enough for making our day so fantastic!

Went today to the happy hour and a bitter rude blonde girl attend me, it was such a bad experience that cancel the drink and left. It is a nice atmosphere and they should consider hide some else

My nephew held his wedding reception here on 14/10/23. The food was exceptional and staff amazing. I want to say a particular thanks to the staff that put a special plate together for me. I have a number of food intolerances due to an illness and surgery, the vegan plate they put together without any fuss was delicious, and very much appreciated. Thank you.

We had our wedding reception at the Balfour in June 2023. It was such an incredible day and we couldn't be happier. The venue, the food, the cocktails, the staff - we have nothing but good things to say. Everyone was well looked after, the food came out on time and tasted incredible. If you are looking for a wedding venue this place is perfect. Matilda the events organiser was incredible and took all the stresses away!

The pub was empty when we arrived which isnt usually a good sign. However the staff were friendly and the food was good. The burnt ends for a starter were not exactly burnt, but tasted good. The chicken was huge and tasted excellent. The service was good - prompt and friendly. Only thing missing was a dessert menu and a few more customers to give the place a better vibe. All in all, a good pub and worth eating there. Not too pricey either.

Lovely bar very spacious, amazing food and customer service. Would definitely come back and recommend to friends in the area.

The house cider is amazing. The only place I visited twice because I was craving the apple cider which is light and slightly fizzy. It is so good. Skewers and beef were excellent. Very kind service from the young blonde lady. Atmospheric with dark woods inside.

Great place, great food, great staff. Celebrated our Daughters wedding 06.05.23 and from beginning to end we had the best time resident DJ had everyone dancing from the start. Staff were just so helpful and accommodating, the food was amazing. Everything was just so perfect for our daughters perfect day. Would highly recommend anyone considering hiring out this venue - Just AMAZING!

Picture this... the beautiful historic entrance to Smithfield market, just a short stroll from the station and to your left, a welcoming corner entrance to St Bart's Brewery. Smithfield remains in view as you are seated at the comfy tables amidst the lofty bar area with mezzanine above. Being December, a stunning, floor to ceiling Christmas tree added to the overall ambience of relaxed celebration. The staff were very welcoming and couldn't do enough for us to make our visit memorable. The food was without fault, delicious and served promptly with a smile. We partook of the Balfour wines and all were delightful and expertly served by the knowledgeable manager who regaled us with details of their production. All was par excellent! Why go anywhere else? This is he venue to head for.

We recently had our reception at Balfour St Barts and it was THE BEST DAY of our lives. The whole process of planning the wedding was an absolute dream... all made easy (and fun) by Matilda! We have had multiple messages to say that the food was the best wedding food that people have had (and we have to agree). The Tempura Prawn canapes were a particular hit, as was the scallop starters, seabass and beef main and the chocolate and lemon tart. The staff were insanely great! One member of the team (I think it was Max! But I was downstairs at the time) dealt particularly well with a very rowdy table of ours and even ended up getting involved and doing a few shots with them- which the guest LOVED and encouraged! The fact this venue was minimum spend AND absolutely amazing was an absolute dream. Multiple people have said it was a great choice of venue- and we couldn't agree more. If you are planning a wedding GO HERE!!!! (And invite us!)

Our company had the opportunity to host a corporate event at Balfour St Barts. The event could not have gone any better. The staff were very attentive, and the food was delicious. Thank you to Max and the management team for an enjoyable event. We look forward to joining you again sometime soon.

Had such a great evening here at Balfour at St Barts. The staff, particularly David who was in from another branch was just so friendly and helpful. Honestly couldn't have asked for better service. We ordered a sparking wine flight which was really great value at £10 each and got to taste British sparkling wines we didn't know about. Then we ordered some skewers (tandoori chicken, Cajun prawns & salmon); all were delicious, particularly the tandoori chicken one. We also had some sides (fries, courgette fries and cheesy garlic bread) - all were great. It also happened to be wine Wednesdays so we got a deal on some wine. Will absolutely be going back. Cant wait!

We held our Christmas Party at St Barts last Friday (3/12/2021) and just had the most incredible party! This was all thanks to the amazing team at the venue from the bar and service staff who were so friendly and helpful to the chef for the delicious food and last but not least our event manager Jola! Jola was so accommodating, always quick to reply and did such great work to ensure everything ran smoothly. Not only is she fab at her job, she is a genuinely lovely person who did everything with all with a big smile on her face. The venue looked beautiful with fairy lights, a big tree and stunning table dressings. We brought in our own drag entertainers and partied until 1am. What a night - thanks again Balfour St Barts!

Went to a wedding last weekend. Multi national. Irish, French, English, Belgian. We had the most amazing day. The venue was fantastic. The food so delcious. All the food was just delicious. Canapes were devine, chicken and avacado on bruschetto, arranchino, tomato and mozzarella, Smoked salmon. Then the wedding feast, and it was a feast. Scallops with gorgeous black pudding hash and apple puree, fillet steak with dauphinois potatoes and creamed spinach. I don't like spinach but I was practically licking the plate! A few hours later we had late snacks of mini burgers, pizza, pokes of fish and chips and I have to say they were better than any chip shop, ever. Outside of the amazing food, the location was brilliant. The staff were fantastic and I have to thank them all but in particular Marion and Amy who were on their feet working all day with smiles still on their faces and so happy and pleasant right to the end. Thank you St. Bart's staff. After over a year and wary about being out you helped make it a day to remember, from the food, the staff, the location, couldn't have been better.

I attended the venue for a wedding. We were a bunch of merry folks happy to see each other again after 18 months of Covid Travel restrictions. The staff was absolutely amazing, attentive and very smiling. All guests were thrilled by their service.

I wanted to leave a review for St Barts’ Brewery. We had a Christmas event there for 75 people. From the moment we made the initial enquiry Grace was so helpful and accommodating to every request we made. We had a lot of fussy eaters in our party and St Bart’s were more than happy to accommodate these. The spare is absolutely perfect, it has a very rustic feel and was beautifully decorated for our event. On the morning of the event I arrived early to find the room ready to go and met Pam who was managing our event. She was incredibly warm and welcoming and ran through some last minute changes I had sent over the day before and was in a bit of a flap about. She made me feel really at ease and I had no doubts that she was totally in control and knew what was happening, as an event organiser for many years for different companies, this is the only time I felt I could take a real step back and actually enjoy the event myself and I can only put that down to how well Pam and her team had everything organised.

Just another City pub with OK beer and food. Baffled why it calls its self brewery as it isn't and its not particularly good beer selection.

I held a surprise 30th birthday party in Balfour Bar at St Bart's Brewery. It went exceptionally well. The team were extremely helpful and the canapés and finger foods were delicious. A big thank you and would recommend to others.

I attended a friend's party here last night and the staff were fantastic. Food and drinks were well presented and delicious, but it was the service that stood out. One member of staff noticed that my blazer had a ripped sleeve, and she took it away to see up there and then! Absolutely amazing. Will certainly be back with friends soon.

We had our wedding reception at St Bart's Brewery on Saturday, 25 August and it was honestly the best day. We had a relatively short lead up time of 7 months to plan and organise everything but Grace Ryan, our reception planner at the venue, was amazing the entire way through. She took all of our worries away with her calm, personable and super helpful manner and put us completely at ease, particularly in the more stressful moments - especially in the couple of days before the big day.

We attended a wedding reception at this venue. Conveniently located just opposite a public carpark and nearby Barbican station. As the wedding was privately catered for, I can only comment on the bar service which was great. Staff were courteous and professional. Toilets were reasonably maintained throughout the party. The only negative would be that there should be cigarette bins outside to reduce the pavement being littered with cigarette butts!

Celebramos nuestra boda en la calle. Bart's, y no podríamos estar más contentos con el servicio atento que recibimos. Cada touchpoint subrayó cómo bien equipadas son de eventos y cómo comprometidos son para la fidelización del cliente. Cada interacción más allá de amable y servicial, incluso con la mayoría de las prep hecho de larga distancia, y con un cambio en el administrador de eventos en el medio de las cosas. Menú degustación del día a nuestra historia como el mejor día de mi vida, y nuestra cena en el día no me decepcionó. Incluso capaz de albergar una adición de última hora a nuestros clientes vegana con un desarrollado 3 platos sin siquiera pestañear. Nuestros clientes son aún entusiasmado, y nuestros corazones están aún desde la noche perfectamente orquestada. Me gustaría casarse de nuevo para tener otra recepción aquí.

Went for a sandwich and drink. The food was very average. £10 for a sandwich. It was extremely busy with hardly anywhere to sit and eat. Music was okay. I wouldn’t rush back.

Hace poco asistí a un almuerzo de Navidad en fábrica de trabajo Street BART'S y tiene que estar allí como uno de los almuerzos más decepcionante de navidad que he asistido. El lugar era muy frío, así que por desgracia no empezar bien y estaban atestados en a tablas, literalmente tuvimos que esperar por la persona junto a mí para cortar su comida, por lo que podría empezar en el mío. Porciones muy pequeñas de la comida de Navidad (que incluía una patata asada y dos brotes como las verduras), sopa tibia tibia vino blanco, proyecto de (que era una nueva en mí, y tenía un ligero de espuma en la parte superior, lo que no era atractivo), el personal no es demasiado agradable. Como un bebedor no había agua en la mesa y eso fue todo. En un momento estábamos tan frío pedimos una taza de té, pero me dijeron que no. Me cuesta recomendarlo como un lugar y sin duda no volvería!

St Barts hosted our wedding party, and we couldn't have asked for a better venue or more helpful team. We took over the place, decorated it, and set up quite an elaborate night. Throughout the St Barts team were on hand to help, and we have absolutely no worries about things running smoothly.

We hired St Barts for our wedding in August 2017 and couldn't have been happier with our choice! The staff took charge of decorating the venue so we didn't have to do anything on the day - it looked great. And they added extra touches which we wouldn't have even thought of!

Comida realmente encantadora, con un precio razonable y el personal amable, pero la comida tardó media hora en llegar, lo que significaba que tenía que apuraron como regresar a trabajar. I did some research on this place before arriving and I was excited at the prospect of visiting. Without exception over the course of 8-9 hours, the members of staff without exception were always friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. English wines and some craft beers are featured here. Wearing my nerd's hat, the excellent quality of both is something I have been banging on about to family and friends for years. The food was excellent - in particular, the main course lamb was cooked to perfection.

I booked this for my friends' engagement party. Fabulous venue, and the staff were so friendly and helpful, ensuring we all had a great night!

Had a very good hot dog. The St Bart's Ale is really good too. The waitress who served us was super friendly and cheerful. They also have free wifi.

Usually stick to proper Ale pubs but was intrigued by the mix of trendy and traditional plus their meaty food selection. Booked up a nice table upstairs away from busy bar area. Nice comfortable area with simple and smart decor but still retaining some urban feel. Everyone in group enjoyed various meat dishes plus sides that filled a big hole. Loved my hotdog. Ask for cheese to dripped over it adds that little bit more. Chips tasty but not as good as the dog. Some good trendy Ales. Nice waiter service too. Or just pop in for drinks. Certain nights there is live music or DJ. We went Wednesday and was nice and relaxed. Cool place. Seek out if in area.

This is a beautiful pub, with wonderful large windows and pretty mezzanine, let down by the abysmal music that it mostly pays and the terrible food. Previously, the food has actually been quite good, but of late it has become pretty poor despite charging Gastro pub level fees for it. If the management got its act together, this could become a popular spot all week around for food and drinks. However, the staff often don't really seem to care and this shows in the quality of service and food

Doesn't look like a pub from outside but it has a good range of beers and a good atmosphere. I went there on a Friday night. We were outside because it was a bit loud, but it is a good joint. They had a DJ

Attended a wedding at St Bart's. I have to say that the staff are wonderful and will go over and beyond to help you on the day. The food was fantastic and drinks were perfect. Stunning venue inside, very clean. I look forward to visiting again.

What a difference the new menu has made to the entire venue . Things make sense now .......... everything seems joined up and clear We popped in with a group of mates for a drink and a catch up and ended up eating . The new menu launched this week , cleverly simple and tied into the meat market with the classic roasted beef sandwich , burnt ends , and the best hot dog , called a Londoner that I've ever had . I loved the slightly sweet breads and spicy salsas . Apart from the dirty soul food there are lovely fried sprats , salads , fresh prawns and corn et cheese ( spicy ) . The point of difference is the smoker they have in the kitchen . The waiter gave me a heads up on how this adds flavour and authenticity - good knowledge One last thing . Not many places have the balls to have one desert . The knickerbocker Glory - your way . Absolutely off the radar . Don't take my word for it .

Popped into St Bart's Brewery for lunch today as we are fans of the other restaurants in this group. We were not disappointed! After a very warm welcome we were sat at a table with a great view and very comfy chairs. Our waiter, Andrea, was a superstar: friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, respectful and quick! The roast chicken was delicious and plentiful (went brilliantly with the Smith's slaw) and the smoked brisket was even yummier. Sweet potato chips were perfectly crispy and so moreish. It will be difficult to top our choices next time, but we will definitely go back and try! Oh, and great wine list, too! It's concise and covers all tastes and price ranges. Thank you, St Bart's Brewery!

excellent food and staff were very efficient and friendly but being a northerner found the drink prices a bit steep otherwise really enjoyed the evening!

Went here with some colleasgues for some drinks after work. We had reserved an area which was great. Service was fine, except when we asked for a white russian. Initially, the barman told us thast he couldn't make it as he wasn't allowed to put two spirits in the same glass!!! We got over this, only to be told they didn't know how to make one. Eventually, the manageress intervened and we got what we wanted, but it was a long winded process. As the it got busier, the atmosphere built up and we had a great night.

This brewery / restaurant has great food and an extensive variety of beers. The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the beers they had available and were able to recommend many to match my taste. Definitely ticked all the boxes for my experience and I will most certainly be visiting again! Thanks guys!

I came here with my family a few weeks ago, and left a very happy customer. This was my second visit. My first time at St Barts was just for a couple drinks. The bar staff were attentive and the beer selection superb. My latest visit was lovely. It was fairly busy so the waitress comfortably sat us upstairs. I believe her name was Sofia. She went out of her way to explain the menu in detail and give her recommendations. We ordered one of every tapa and a few other dishes. Super tasty and inventive. I especially loved the brisket. We felt well looked after. The atmosphere was buzzing and positive. The manager, Eddie, also came over to check on us and told us about the history behind the beers and wine. My parents are wine-lovers and particularly enjoyed his enthusiasm. I will definitely be coming back and can't wait to try some new things in the menu.

Came here late Saturday afternoon with husband, son and his girlfriend. Sat on table by the main door - which is on a high plinth ( maybe 12 inches ) ordered drinks - before any of us had a sip my sons girl friend managed to knock a whole pint of beer over which headed my way. A normal reaction for me was to push my chair away from the table whilst she tried ( and failed) to rescue her beer. my chair was only 6 inches away from the edge of the plinth so that went along with my full glass of red and me !!! I'm sure you can imagine legs in the air, chair and me on the floor and a Big Bang on my head - it hurt like crazy but I was brave and tried to laugh it off. A member of staff came over to help clear up rather grumpily although she did ask if I was ok. I mentioned if she would mind giving me some red wine as we hadn't touched any of the drink - couldn't hear her reply ( apparently she said you spilt it ) when I had recovered I went to the bar and asked for a top up of wine as although the beer spilt was someone's fault my fall and spilt wine wasn't really ( and the chair and table is in a very dangerous place ) she said no you split it so why should we - I said ok really don't worry if that's your attitude....sons daughter went to ask for the manager and said she wasn't complaining about not getting the red wine replaced,but was about the bar persons attitude ( others in the bar came up to her to check I really was ok - yes the fall was that hard and spectacular ) the manager straight away said no problem I can easily give you a glass of red wine although this was not really the point - he really didn't seem to listen was just very quick to fill up the glass with wine - terrible attitude - a simple are you ok, is there anything we can do would have helped ... This review really isn't about wanting a top up of wine ( I hadn't had even a sip of the first one) it is about how you should treat your customers - I am not a young girl but a mature woman who was put in an embarrassing position,( yes everyone in the bar saw me ) hurting myself quite badly in the process, I feel some customer service training needs to take place - along with either a warning or preferably rails around the plinth - will not be returning to what appears to be a nice pub.

Lovely friendly welcome, delicious food and gorgeous beer. We had the soup, spicy prawns, chips and stout- yum!

This is a very good and actually classy and spacious pub! No grubbiness! Great location and very good service and I definitely recommend it if you're in The City / the Barbican area.

Charterhouseを見学した後にここでお茶しました。平日３時頃だったため、お客さんは少なく静かでした。店内は広く小綺麗な感じでした。

The staff were exemplary. We handed over our decorations and they made it beautiful.The food and wine were excellent as was the service.They really helped create a perfect wedding.

The wait staff were terrific and quite attentive given the physical layout of the restaurant and the level of noise. I had the brisket and it was fine but the light level in the restaurant did not allow me to identify which bits of meat were meat and which were fat. The menu is effectively pub food with some minor attempts at gastro-pub.I would suggest this might very well be a great place for a pint but skip having a meal here if you a) want to have any sort of conversation; or b) see what you're eating.

My neices wedding reception was held here and the whole experience was excellent. The tables were beautiful and the food from the canapés to the main meal was very well presented and tasty to eat. The staff were very helpful and polite and the dinner service was great. All in all I would have no hesitation in recommending St Bart's Brewery for a visit or function.

A functional pub with some good real ales available .. A popular spot with the local workers ! A nice menu available , did not eat myself but the food did look good ..

Not sure why this is classed as a brewery. They do have brewery fresh lager from Greenwich brewery. The burgers were excellent. Only one ale was on with all other hand pumps out of use. We ordered drinks at the bar, sat at a table and then got very good service for food and further drinks. We were not impressed with the service charge of more than 10% of the bill. Didn't read the small print but I am sure there will be an explanation/ disclaimer. Shame as we would have tipped but not under when forced .. the burgers were very good .. shame ..

despite having booked weeks in advance for a business lunch, and my booking having been accepted, St Barts telephoned me an hour before my booking to say it had "only just appeared" in their system and in fact they were closed all afternoon for a private function. They must have known before then

I feel I am being generous by giving this two stars - I would not recommend this bar at all. I attended for my girlfriends birthday celebration mid-week after work (14th September). From the moment we arrived, and then right through the night, it became apparent that the bar staff were going to make every trip to order a drink an unpleasant experience. I live in London and am no stranger to the occasional blunt bartender. However, the level of indifference and sheer rudeness displayed by the staff at St Barts was astonishing to the point of being laughable (in the end thats all we could do - make a joke about it!).In addition to this, St Barts is supposed to be a BREWERY. The did not have a single cask ale, as they were all empty, so it was just the usual fizzy beers that you see all over London, including some good ones may I add (still disappointing though).On top of the staff rudeness and lack of interesting beer, I suppose another challenging aspect of the night was that the cheapest pint I managed to get was £5.50 with most being £6.00. I recall large glasses of the cheapest wines being £10. Fine you might say, this is central London, which I guess I would too if the service or substance was in any way impressive.On a more positive note I would like to mention that the space is reaIly open & pleasant and the food was great (but I guess you want a burger to be good when it is £14!). I would also like to point out that I did have a really good night as I was with friends, however, I still felt that this review was needed to point out the severe problems with this place.

Staff devotion to our needs and hard work were exemplary. Food was first class: cooked to perfection. Uniformly high standard of service, considering the various needs of our party of 120 guests. All facilities worked seamlessly. At the end of the evening we felt the venue was our home and the staff were our family.

Big do. The food was fish and chips served hot and was fantastic all the service staff wee attentive and for London the drinks were reasonably priced. What really disappointed was as a 'brewery' in the name the expectation was that the real ale or as it is being sold currently as craft beers were cloudy and ended up on a Kentish cider which was crisp and fresh.

Fantastic in every way. Nothing is too much trouble and every member of the team does an excellent job with a smile on their face. The food is outstanding for a big function and the choice of drinks is just as good. A great ambience within St Barts and the location is the icing on the cake. Try it out and see if this is the venue for your celebration.

The meal was quite disappointing. The food was nothing special at all and service limited. St Barts is a very busy pub and the food is nothing more than very mediocre pub food.

This is quite a nice place to stop off for a beer with a reasonable selection on tap. Service was also attentive, however I would say that the food is of an average standard and in some cases overpriced for the quality / portion size provided

Would not recommend for dinner, maybe lunchtime is better. A friend and I weren't welcomed or seated and the establishment was full of people drinking rather than eating. We had a drink and them moved on to a restaurant.

Big, open place with astonishing choice of beers, interesting menu with huge, good value dishes, friendly service, no noise or music (at lunchtime) and no hassle.....lovely mixture of pub and restaurant and almost private club.

Overall we had a nice meal at this restaurant however the timing could have perhaps been better. We booked for 13.45 on a Sunday and the place was empty, leaving little to say about the ambience. The staff were friendly and attentive. The main meals were good value and no complaints about the food which was cooked to perfection and really enjoyable. The dessert was nice but tiny tiny portions were disappointing. Drinks were on par with the expected London price.
