Food is fantastic. I've eaten in here a few times now and I haven't been disappointed. There was a slightly longer wait than usual last time I went but I wasn't in a rush and it certainly didn't ruin the quality of the food. I will be back. Great effort from your kitchen team. Keep doing what your doing because it's great.

My husband really enjoyed his fish and chips but I was disappointed with my Hunters Chicken dish. I asked if I could have mashed potatoes instead of chips, yes that was fine. When it arrived I had both on a large plate which put me off because I have a small appetite and a waste of food as I only ate the mash. My chicken was small, that was ok but it was over cooked and dry and I had trouble cutting it so 1/3 was left. We’ve had good Sunday roasts before but we won’t be coming back weekdays.

Our first visit to the Squirrel, having lived only half a mile away for the last 45 years! Enjoyed an anniversary lunch date. It was almost empty at the time of our visit. Our first two courses were served in reasonable time, but the dessert took so long that we had decided to cancel and leave. An apology was offered, but no excuse. Hence only two stars for service. There are facilities for dining outdoors, and under cover, and parking is available on site.

Only one person serving in bar and restaurant. Waited 50 minutes for our main course. Lamb shank and mash and gravy very good, can't say the same for the one thin broccoli spear that accompanied. Husband had pie, very nice but overcooked carrots and parsnip that his knife couldn't cut through. Bit of a disappointment as pub nicely decorated but lack of staff and thought on the meals plus long wait not sure if we will return.

Visited THE SQUIRREL with my wife hoping for a Sunday Lunch / Meal. My wife requires a gluten free diet. I asked for a gluten free menu - Great - they have one!!! Sadly it is laughable what a poor selection of gluten free options - worst I have ever seen in a pub. They are even to lazy to create a Sunday lunch suitable for gluten free diners. For example SHARING NACHOS with Sheese (disgusting coconut cheese) and Vegan Mayo (no egg, no dairy – just coconut based disgusting stuff). People with CEOLIAC (gluten free) are not VEGAN, they simply need to avoid GLUTEN. I asked if we could have nachos with real cheese and real mayo – NO. They were too lazy. I then asked if my wife could have the GAMMON STEAK – fully aware that 2 items (chips and onion rings) would not be gluten free – everything else was fine. The very kind and polite bar staff asked chef if we could replace chips with another potato based item as an alternative – They had mashed, baby potatoes and dauphinoise potatoes all gluten free but would remove the chips and onion rings free of charge and then charge us £3.50 extra for the additional side. THATS AN ABSOLUTE JOKE - LAZIEST CHEF EVER! Most places just serve a jacket potato or a side salad is a very easy and simple change to make a dish gluten free. NOT HERE!!!! My wife then asked to leave – so we did. WHAT A JOKE.... every pub has GF variations of dishes but not thios one. The chef should be sacked for being so utterly lazy and arrogant. To charge prices like that and not give a monkeys about custonmer dietry requirements has put me right off using ANY stonegate group or Pub and Ding Group pubs ever again. I have clocked all the pubs in our area and put them onto the AVOID AVOID AVOID list. Anyway, we just left and went home to eat – my wife said she would never go back to THE SQUIRREL. They should remove the "we cater for gluten free" to WE DONT CARE about gluten free. I was utterly shocked about the lazy ignorance. Hope that helps someone else.

A week ago today, I stopped in this pub and found a quiet seat away from the hubbub of the adjacent family/kids section to look through my assortment of accrued pamphlets. First time in the venue as had been perusing the town centre for a big ticket item I was after in the Twixmas sales. 5 minutes later, these lads ( perhaps aged 30s to 40s) steadily began accumulating on a long seat just 3 or so metres away. First one, then two, and so on… As their numbers grew, so did the raucousness - fair enough, it was days before New Years. But the profanities also grew - which surprised me in such proximity to the kiddies I could hear. But it was also an indicator they had zero respect for my original presence there, just adjacent to them. It was then rowdiness suddenly climaxed in a - “you black c**t!” followed by a snigger and group mumbling silence. I was utterly shocked, and my heart started racing as I suddenly felt in potential danger. In my periphery it seemed they may have shouted it at one of themselves, though deliberately loud enough to unsettle me, being the only black male there and in their immediate proximity. If not meant provocatively, it was a blatant expression of disrespect intended to raise amusement amongst their cohort at my expense. I immediately gathered my belongings and moved to a different area. After calming down, I hailed the young barman (whose name comes up as Tori on the bill), and told him what had just happened - requesting my money back as would be cutting my visit short. He immediately and sincerely apologised, and without any fuss obliged - saying he would go and warn them about their behaviour. To be honest I partly felt a little concerned about his own safety. But just left my drink and exited. The experience absolutely ruined my day. Afraid I can therefore only give this pub an average score: (a) because of my "actual" experience visiting it, and (b) because in all a honesty, from the standoff-ish welcome of the other bar-person who originally served me I am not at all confident she would have been similarly considerate. Sorry if I am wrong...call it a time-honoured hunch.

We had our annual Christmas meal, which we ordered in advanced, but even those who wanted to make changes it wasn’t too much trouble. The food was served hot and all very tasty, not an easy task when serving lots of people. The colleagues couldn’t do enough to make us welcome, and the little touches like the Christmas hats on the table were really appreciated. Thanks for making our Christmas meal so lovely - we’ll be back next year (if you’ll have us 😄).

After telling the bar staff I had a table reserved (you go to the bar, there's no wait to be seated sign etc) I was just pointed towards the table, I had to find it myself. To order you scan a qr code to access the menu, but no one mentioned this or ever came over to check. In the end I got lucky noticing it on a menu on a different table as it was missing from the one I was seated at. The table was near the slot machines which I felt an interesting choice as normally those things are kept apart. The tables are also close enough to the bar that when glasses are thrown into the collection you have that loud clanking quite frequently while eating. The majority of the food seemed of a pre packaged chain pub quality. I will however call out the lamb as being very well cooked.

Lovely pub, very busy, great service. Enjoyed the cheese board but it needs a few more crackers and better bar snack choices rather than all carbohydrate chips potatoes or breads.

Hunters chicken ok but chicken and bacon pie almost no chicken and absolutely no bacon. As locals who have not come for years we returned hopeful but certainly not worth an evening out. Left early and won’t be back soon.

This was just perfect. Relaxed atmosphere, good food for a good price. We would certainly recommend the Squirrel.

We visited the Squirrel last night for dinner with our 2 children and my parents. This is the 2nd time we've eaten here in the last few months and on both occasions the food has been great. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is good quality and excellent value. Especially the children's menu. Would definitely recommend 😊

Drinks are competitively priced but food is bland and unimaginable.
