Crab and Anchor in Rushmoor

A wonderful evening at the Crab and Anchor. We’d been told it had changed hands (about 3 months ago) with a new menu Greek/Mediterranean influence. We had a delicious meal, good value and decent portions. I had the calamari as a starter - the best I’ve tasted locally, followed by stuffed Bifteki (grilled lamb and pork kofta stuffed with feta cheese, delicious👍👍 Eddie, Nadia and the team looked after us very well, attentive but not intrusive, all fantastic. Thanks for a great evening, see you all again very soon.

This is a gem of a restaurant in Southwood, on the outskirts of Farnborough. Although a little more costly than other local eateries, the food is always amazing & the selection of beers is extensive. Always impressed when I visit the Crab & Anchor. Highly recommend.

Amazing atmosphere it was just nice food, lovely lighting and very Christmassy . There were a lot of people there but you could have enough privacy and hear each other which was great for our catch up. Service was extremely fast. Will go again.

9 of us ate here yesterday (Christmas Day) the food and service was excellent nothing was too much trouble for them. You weren’t rushed to eat it was nice and relaxed. Thank you for your hospitality.

We visited as a family of 4 today to have the festive menu and wow the food was amazing! All of the dishes had so much flavour and the meat just fell apart. There was also lots of it so it was very filling but well worth every penny. The cheesecake was one of the best I have ever had and I would say this has probably been one of the best meals I've had out in a while. The staff were lovely and attentive and it was just a nice atmosphere. Thank you for an amazing meal, we look forward to coming back in the new year! Merry Christmas to you all

First time to visit this place. Spoiled for choices in the menu. Portions are good . Food was superb. Staff were lovely and polite.

Visited with a big group of friends for a festive lunch. The service was excellent - quick and friendly. They couldn't do enough for us. The food was fantastic!! Fresh and well cooked. Particularly enjoyed the Calamari. Will certainly be going back and recommending to everyone.

Just had team Christmas lunch on 10th December. Eight of us in attendance all ordered different starters and mains. All food served piping hot and all delicious. Portion size was very generous for both starters and mains. A couple even managed a pudding. Great food, great service and brilliant value for money would highly recommend.

Went for a Christmas meal, have to say one of the nicest meals I’ve had for a long time, all homemade and each course delicious. So refreshing to have a local place that isn’t just a chain menu. Far surpassed any expectations, would throughly recommend, just chained hands too so I hope you go and give it a try !

New management, new decor, some new dishes. Sunday roast, different but still very good. I'm looking forward to try all the new dishes.

We had a fab meal tonight. They food was exceptional - can highly recommend the pork belly. Marco is always very attentive. Loving the new decor - it’s looking a lot more sophisticated now.

I have been here many times in the past but certainly not again, sadly it has gone badly down hill. The staff were incredibly rude, the food was of a really poor standard and they have no clue how to cater for allergies.

I recently dined at the crab and anchor, and it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we stepped in, the ambiance was enchanting with elegant decor and soft, inviting lighting. The staff were incredibly attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly, making us feel right at home. The menu featured a delightful array of dishes, and I opted for the lamb shanks , which were cooked to perfection and bursting with flavour. Each course was beautifully presented, showcasing the chef's artistry. The dessert—an exquisite tiramisu—was the perfect way to finish an amazing meal. I can't recommend the crab and anchor enough; it's a true culinary gem that I can't wait to revisit!

Well where do I start!!! I loved this restaurant! Until tonight! Think it has had a change of management. I ordered a Doombar ale! Anyone who knows Doombar will know if it was cloudy it is off! I said to the young waitress the doombar is off! She said no it’s not. I said it’s not drinkable, she took it to the bar. The manager and barman said it’s not. I went up to the bar. He said it was a new barrel. I said it’s off. It should be clear. so rude! So then the main course arrived. Lamb Kelftico. So eating through my way through the dish. Looked quite dry, but hey hoo. Anyway I got to the bottom of the dish only to find a chicken nugget!!! I separated it and put it on the plate and continued to finish the meal. The waitress came to the table to take the plates away, I asked her why there was a chicken nugget in my dish? Her reply was (I don’t know I didn’t bake it) Shocking! I then asked for the bill and the manager came with the bill. I asked why was there a chicken nugget in my meal. He replied with… I’m sorry it must of fallen off a child’s meal. I said I don’t think so, as it was at the bottom of the dish!! He reduced the bill by £13 taking the bill down to £40. He didn’t appear to care at all.

Thank you to the Management and all the staff at the Crab & Anchor for a lovely evening and dinner. Myself and my goddaughter had great food, good service and left feeling satisfied and happy, will return to try some other dishes on the new menu. Taxi next time so can have a few of the tasty cocktails on the drinks menu too. 😋

This was a work's meal and I wasn't too bothered about the chosen place because my husband and I had previously been here for a meal and weren't impressed. That was a while ago, so was happy to go as that could've been a one off or things have improved, as everyone said the food is really. Unfortunately, things hadn't changed and this was probably even worse! First problem was the booking. I phoned and made a booking and then had to change it to the following week. I left a voicemail about the change but didn't get a reply, so I phoned up. I spoke to a man with a strong accent and having now been in there, I am pretty sure I know who it was. The man wasn't paying any attention and not listening, and when I said I hadn't had a response to my voicemail he said they're very busy and doing a refurb. I gave the details for the new booking and followed it up with an email. No reply. When I turned up, when I got inside the first thing I noticed was there was no change in the decor. Not sure what was meant by a refurb. What surprise, there was no booking for us, the place was empty and the gentleman that spoke to me was clearly not happy. I pointed out that I sent an email and I told they have been very busy. I added that the email was sent a week previous. No apology or anything, just a miserable face. Food was average. I had prawns to start, delicious garlic sauce. We all had steaks and all requested rare/medium, they were all rare. I don't mind too much but it was a bit too under cooked for me. A side of mushrooms ordered and not received. Side of potatos look yummy, but didn't taste it. Puddings weren't anything special either, especially at the price. One was a brownie that had clearly been microwave and was tiny (as in the height), looked very flat. Another was apple crumble and custard. The custard was in a pot which wasn't even full to half way. None of this was anything special. When it came to paying, I asked to pay X amount by card, they put in the wrong amount. So, did another payment. They had a tip, but it wasn't a lot, which under the circumstances, I'm fine with because none of the gave a service deserving if one. Would I go again? Definitely not.

This has been a stable for a long time. Have been for a while so it was nice to see it's food was still up to par. The Crab and Anchor burger with Stilton was just to die for. Succulent and tasty. The salmon was also cooked to perfection. If you are stuck for a place to go... give it bash. You just might be very pleasantly surprised! Well worth a visit.

Nice place,staff were very good,I had belly pork, which was very dry,vegetable s were nice and crisp, I believe that the menu is being completely changed as the establishment has recently changed hands.

Excellent service and excellent hot food. Very large portions. We understand that a new owner has taken over and a completely new menu is being introduced in a couple of weeks which is really sad! We have been coming for several years and it has always been good so we are keeping everything crossed that the new owner doesn’t change too much about the place! I know the head chef is going -very sadly, and the waiting staff are apprehensive, hopefully wrongly! Listen to your customers Sir - we know best!!!!

We went for Sunday lunch and it was lovely! It’s under new ownership and the food, service and atmosphere were all great. I’m gluten free and there were plenty of options for me. We will be back!

I've been going to this restaurant since it opened, which must be 25+ years. Over the past 5 years I've only been a couple of times because I've been living abroad. It was always my family's favorite restaurant so tonight I took my parents out for dinner at the Crab & Anchor. Where to begin... The service was terrible. When we arrived at 6.30pm the restaurant was a quarter full, yet after being seated we had to wait 10 minutes for someone to take our drinks order. Then 5 minutes later someone came to the table, asked if we've ordered our drinks and then asked to take our food order. Still no drinks. 5 minutes later my dad went to the bar and asked about our drinks. We eventually get our drinks, and I questioned the server. Rather than apologize, he was rude, defensive and gave lots of excuses. Bottom line, he really didn't care. Then there's the food. I had the seafood mixed grill. Something I've had many times over the years. What I was served were 2 overcooked pieces of fish, 2 half prawns so overcooked and dry they were inedible, cold mussels and about 20 bland potatoes. Thankfully mum's lasagna was good, but my dad said his belly pork and chips were not that warm. What an absolute shame. From great to mediocre (and that's being kind). My advice, go with low expectations or just don't go at all.

Haven't been here for a while but used to really enjoy it. We made our choices and gave then to the waitress, she returned a few minutes later to say our choices were not available and could we choose something else. We made our second choice, pork with Apple sauce and mash with side orders of mushrooms and veg. The crackling was quite hard but tasty. The Apple sauce contained cinnamon which was not on menu and unfortunately I am not able to have but it would have been nice to know as I would not have ordered this dish. The vegetables all tasted flowery and perfumed which we put down to some sort of cleaning/dishwasher detergent. The waitresses came to see if all was ok we explained the issues and she apologised and walked away. They did take veg off bill. As I said it's been a while since we have been there and I think it will be a while again till we go back. Such a Shame

Came to the crab and anchor whilst staying in Farnborough. The staff were really welcoming and sat us in a lovely cozy corner. Staff were really friendly and food came out very promptly. We ordered a fish and chips and sirloin stake. Both were brilliant and my brother said it was the best steak he ever had. Would highly recommend.

As a family we came for lunch on Friday 13th for my dad’s birthday. The staff serving were friendly and professional unfortunately I did not get either of their names. Two of our party had the chicken stuffed with brie & the other two had the steak Diane. Both meals were cooked to perfection & so tasty. We attempted to order dessert afterwards, however we were all too full. Altogether a really good experience & we all had a great time & hope to return again soon.

Great food, Halloumi with Honey and lemon was a nice appetiser, Chicken Gorgonzola was a nice thick flavoursome sauce and sticky toffee pudding had plenty of custard and added toffee sauce. 👌🏻

We popped in here for a bite to eat around 3pm, the most unwelcome welcome we’ve ever had, we had to grab the attention of the server as they were all chatting amongst themselves, place had no atmosphere and the food was mediocre but nice. They need to up their customer service and be grateful for their customers.

Went as group of four the place was half empty the staff kept pestering us every five minutes asking if we needed anything. Food ok but again not as good as it used to be won’t be going back. The waitress asked us to work out how to split the bill in four didn’t really know what she was doing. Shame used to be amazing not anymore

I celebrated my 70th Birthday there yesterday with 31 of my family and friends and they couldn’t not be more welcoming, helpful and very efficient and the food is amazing. I certainly will be going back again and recommending them to others.

The service was offered with no smiling faces, felt unwelcome, were offered seats and orders taken with no enthusiasm and infact we all just made to feel we were a hinderence. The food was pricey, so cooked from fresh was expected. The chicken with pasta was clearly processed, and didn't even look like real chicken, clearly all microwaved, and totally inedible. All 4 meals put in front of us were extremely poor for what was charged, along with the service, and will not ever go again.

Staying in the nearby Premier Inn and after a quick visit/pint at the attached Brewers Fayre……. I decided I needed somewhere else to eat. Checked out the ‘nethersooons’ app to find a non-chain pub. This was an easy and safe walk up the road (dedicated foot/cycle path mostly set back from the 40mph road) and a lucky find. Beers were a little limited but at least they had Doom bar (sadly free pour not draft) and opted for a pint as I perused the menu and saw other dishes go by. -All looked and smelled good. Boringly I opted for Scampi and Chips which was perfectly cooked and with great Tartar Sauce. Atmosphere was relaxed and you could sit near the bar (as I did) or at table clothed tables. All set to a 1980s soundtrack (which made me happy). Desserts looked good too, but was no longer hungry.

Came here last week for dinner, amazing food and service. I had the Thai green curry and my partner had the Steak Dianne. Food was delicious as always and huge portions!! Service was quick and the staff were lovely and very accommodating. Bora went above and beyond for us and we had a great evening!

The staff are very friendly and the food is tasty. I had the Ceasar Salad. It was lovely, well presented and was a generous portion . Plenty of all of the ingredients . Hubby and daughter had the lamb shank which they said was gorgeous. My son in law had the roast chicken. It looked lovely. The roast potatoes looked nice and crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Some of the family had the crumble and again, looked lovely. The custard was plentiful.

When we visit Farnbourgh we always go here to eat . We stumbled on restaurant and discovered excellent food , beer is a clean pint . The venue is spotless and the staff are welcoming, very friendly and accommodating to my food requests. Worth a visit. Really need more advertising on main road to get different customers. This place is a true hidden gem. We saw the sign and decided to pull in as we were quite peckish. Great beer, friendly staff, the food was lovely and incredibly generous portions provided excellent value for money. We will definitely be returning.

We popped in Sunday for lunch, Used to be a real busy restaurant and you would struggle to get a table. Unfortunately this certainly isn’t the case anymore! You couldn’t fault the service as we were one of only two tables in there - food was a 6/10 at best - roast was definitely pre cooked and not what it used to be. Overall very disappointing and won’t be returning.

A party of 19 guests went to the Crab & Anchor on Sunday May 19th. The food was excellent and plentiful and the service was good too. We would certainly recommend it to family and friends as a nice place to eat.

Quite often come here for a meal. Food is always lovely and a wide selection of different meals compared to other local restaurants and pubs.

There definitely needs to be more because it did take things like paying and ordering a bit longer than ideal. However, the staff were still great, checking on us and if we needed any drinks through the meal. The staff also were lovely and accommodating for my father, letting us have a take out box because he couldn't finish his meal. The food was great value for money and was delicious. The portions were very generous and the quality was lovely. My only suggestion would be to have some more veg on the chicken and pork dish, but overall, absolutely delicious and will be back!

Had a delicious lunch here, the food was really good quality at a great price. I'm glad we booked, as it was very busy (it was a Saturday), but we weren't rushed to vacate our table, which was good. The service was very good, although we did have trouble catching the eye of one member of staff at one point. But another was much more observant and came to us instantly. Will definitely be back for lunch and also for dinner at some point too, as the menu looks really good!

The menu is impressive. the only downside is that it doesn't give enough description of what else is served, i.e., mushrooms , pepprs !. The restaurant has a good atmosphere and is well decorated

Was very disappointed they didn’t cater for ceoliacs - they said they could make something gluten free for me but I experienced stomach pains in the evening so something must have been contaminated.

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to Harry and Sophie for the excellent service they have both provided tonight, the food was delicious followed By our drinks, will definitely be coming back, first time here so definitely made a good impression. Would recommend!

We didn’t have to put a deposit down ? Birthday meal with friends Excellent friendly service and food was good the size of the meals are more than enough . The staff even bought out the birthday cake with candles and sang happy birthday will be back for a visit real soon

Foods were great, however i can't say the same for service. It was bit slow. It took us 3 hours to have starters and mains for table of 4.

We have been coming here for around 10 years. We went to order and as I was not very hungry I ordered a starter ( £7.00) a side dish ( 4.50 ) and then asked for a child's spaghetti Bolognase. The waiter said I can't order a kids meal. I explained I wasn't hungry enough for a main and that I was also ordering a latte ( 00) and a cocktail ( 7.50 ). He said the kids meals are only for kids otherwise every one who came in would order a kids meal. ( i seriously don't think people going to the crab and anchor are looking for chicken nuggets, fish fingers, hamburger, with chips and peas or beans ). Should add my partner was ordering a soft drink and burger from the main menu. After an uncomfortable few minutes the waiter said on this occasion he would let me order it. I didn't get offered any beans or peas, total bill came to 48. It left an unsavoury feeling, and I won't be returning for a long time.

Had a lovely Sunday dinner today at The Crab and Anchor, food was excellent and the staff were really attentive and helpful, just wish the waiters and waitresses would smile a bit more. I have not been here for a while, but will definitely be back again soon as I had forgotten how nice this restaurant is and how good their menu is !

Such a shame they want £20 up front to reserve a table. Unheard of! We went to the Ivy and they don't ask for payment to secure a booking. Imagine trying to get that back if you have the cancel the booking. Shocking!

Lovely family meal in pleasant surroundings

Order a medium rare fillet steak, the chef clearly has no training in how to cook a thickly cut steak. Dry, burnt and inedible. The chips were poor too, greasy and exploded when you stuck your fork in. The mussels were obviously a microwave pack and not the best either. 12 of us went and most said they wouldn't go again.

Had Christmas meal today (17th December). It was absolutely amazing. When the menu said ‘with all the trimmings’ they weren’t kidding. Everything was also cooked to perfection. Thank you for a memorable Christmas dinner. We’ll be back soon.

Had work Xmas lunch last week. Decent food and friendly staff and service. Nothing to fault. Good pub restaurant.

Chose the Crab and Anchor for our work meal this year and they didn't disappoint. Pre-ordered from the christmas menu and usual menu for 13 people. Food came out hot and delicious. We all had a great night.

Had a lovely Sunday Lunch with my family for my dad's birthday. Most of us had a roast. I had the roast beef dinner and it was very Well presented. and tasted lovely meat, cook to perfection. Plenty of vegetables. Everybody enjoyed the lunch staff were very good at clearing the table glasses in coming up and asking for drinks very friendly and professional. Very good value for money. Early evening mid week so quiet. The salmon & fish & chips were good. Only 2 draught ales, 1 was okay.

The wife & I have been coming to The Crab & Anchor for many years & have always enjoyed an excellent meal. The menu is pretty extensive, beef, chicken, pasta, sea food & vegetarian so there really is something for everyone. We usually visit during for weekend lunch, we don’t book & have always managed to get a table OK but I suspect it may be busier during the evening. Located tucked away behind Morrisons in Southwood Village Centre. Great for large family groups or as a couple. The staff have always been polite & friendly. This is a great local independent restaurant & so much better than the pub chains. We will return again soon :O)

OMG what a find!!!, I had possibly the BEST fish and chips I’ve ever eaten, lovely and fresh, with herbs running through the batter, huge portion ( which regrettably I couldn’t finish), lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, definitely worth a visit

My wife and I have just come home from having a roast dinner here. I had the lamb and my wife had the beef. I must say this was the best pub roast I think I have ever had. Compliments to the chef. I am usually a very fussy eater with at least something to complain about but not in this case. Well done to you guy's. 👏 😊

Had a lovely meal there this evening. Food came quickly and large portions. The French onion soup and fish pie were so good.

Decent food, chilli crab linguine great, fish and chips average.

Popped in for early dinner without a reservation. Was seated and served quickly. Had a great meal and a couple of drinks. Was quiet for a Saturday. Friendly staff

I can’t decide on 2 or 3 out of 5. This place used to be a regular for us but since Covid have only been back in on few occasions as has not been as good. Tried again this weekend, roast was tasty, other mains no longer come with vegetables so you have to pay extra, plates were not very well cleaned/dried, waitress rushed us through each stage of visit, didn’t pay any attention to what we were saying so wrong drinks on both rounds, the man who struts around is unfriendly and unhelpful. Tasty beef, tasty chicken, but no atmosphere (was very quiet for lunchtime), poor staff…. I assume other customers have given up too. Can get better elsewhere so we’re done with Crab and Anchor once and for all.
