This has been a stable for a long time. Have been for a while so it was nice to see it's food was still up to par. The Crab and Anchor burger with Stilton was just to die for. Succulent and tasty. The salmon was also cooked to perfection. If you are stuck for a place to go... give it bash. You just might be very pleasantly surprised! Well worth a visit.

Nice place,staff were very good,I had belly pork, which was very dry,vegetable s were nice and crisp, I believe that the menu is being completely changed as the establishment has recently changed hands.

Excellent service and excellent hot food. Very large portions. We understand that a new owner has taken over and a completely new menu is being introduced in a couple of weeks which is really sad! We have been coming for several years and it has always been good so we are keeping everything crossed that the new owner doesn’t change too much about the place! I know the head chef is going -very sadly, and the waiting staff are apprehensive, hopefully wrongly! Listen to your customers Sir - we know best!!!!

We went for Sunday lunch and it was lovely! It’s under new ownership and the food, service and atmosphere were all great. I’m gluten free and there were plenty of options for me. We will be back!

I've been going to this restaurant since it opened, which must be 25+ years. Over the past 5 years I've only been a couple of times because I've been living abroad. It was always my family's favorite restaurant so tonight I took my parents out for dinner at the Crab & Anchor. Where to begin... The service was terrible. When we arrived at 6.30pm the restaurant was a quarter full, yet after being seated we had to wait 10 minutes for someone to take our drinks order. Then 5 minutes later someone came to the table, asked if we've ordered our drinks and then asked to take our food order. Still no drinks. 5 minutes later my dad went to the bar and asked about our drinks. We eventually get our drinks, and I questioned the server. Rather than apologize, he was rude, defensive and gave lots of excuses. Bottom line, he really didn't care. Then there's the food. I had the seafood mixed grill. Something I've had many times over the years. What I was served were 2 overcooked pieces of fish, 2 half prawns so overcooked and dry they were inedible, cold mussels and about 20 bland potatoes. Thankfully mum's lasagna was good, but my dad said his belly pork and chips were not that warm. What an absolute shame. From great to mediocre (and that's being kind). My advice, go with low expectations or just don't go at all.

Haven't been here for a while but used to really enjoy it. We made our choices and gave then to the waitress, she returned a few minutes later to say our choices were not available and could we choose something else. We made our second choice, pork with Apple sauce and mash with side orders of mushrooms and veg. The crackling was quite hard but tasty. The Apple sauce contained cinnamon which was not on menu and unfortunately I am not able to have but it would have been nice to know as I would not have ordered this dish. The vegetables all tasted flowery and perfumed which we put down to some sort of cleaning/dishwasher detergent. The waitresses came to see if all was ok we explained the issues and she apologised and walked away. They did take veg off bill. As I said it's been a while since we have been there and I think it will be a while again till we go back. Such a Shame

Came to the crab and anchor whilst staying in Farnborough. The staff were really welcoming and sat us in a lovely cozy corner. Staff were really friendly and food came out very promptly. We ordered a fish and chips and sirloin stake. Both were brilliant and my brother said it was the best steak he ever had. Would highly recommend.

As a family we came for lunch on Friday 13th for my dad’s birthday. The staff serving were friendly and professional unfortunately I did not get either of their names. Two of our party had the chicken stuffed with brie & the other two had the steak Diane. Both meals were cooked to perfection & so tasty. We attempted to order dessert afterwards, however we were all too full. Altogether a really good experience & we all had a great time & hope to return again soon.

Great food, Halloumi with Honey and lemon was a nice appetiser, Chicken Gorgonzola was a nice thick flavoursome sauce and sticky toffee pudding had plenty of custard and added toffee sauce. 👌🏻

We popped in here for a bite to eat around 3pm, the most unwelcome welcome we’ve ever had, we had to grab the attention of the server as they were all chatting amongst themselves, place had no atmosphere and the food was mediocre but nice. They need to up their customer service and be grateful for their customers.

The food was nice & the female staff seemed friendly. However the male waiter we had was unwelcoming, didn’t smile & his one word responses to queries were bordering on rude. We will think twice about returning.

Went as group of four the place was half empty the staff kept pestering us every five minutes asking if we needed anything. Food ok but again not as good as it used to be won’t be going back. The waitress asked us to work out how to split the bill in four didn’t really know what she was doing. Shame used to be amazing not anymore

I celebrated my 70th Birthday there yesterday with 31 of my family and friends and they couldn’t not be more welcoming, helpful and very efficient and the food is amazing. I certainly will be going back again and recommending them to others.

Had 31 of us in our party wonderful staff couldn’t help us enough . Food was lovely cant thank them enough . Well done to all the staff and thank you for making my sisters Birthday special xxxx

The service was offered with no smiling faces, felt unwelcome, were offered seats and orders taken with no enthusiasm and infact we all just made to feel we were a hinderence. The food was pricey, so cooked from fresh was expected. The chicken with pasta was clearly processed, and didn't even look like real chicken, clearly all microwaved, and totally inedible. All 4 meals put in front of us were extremely poor for what was charged, along with the service, and will not ever go again.

Staying in the nearby Premier Inn and after a quick visit/pint at the attached Brewers Fayre……. I decided I needed somewhere else to eat. Checked out the ‘nethersooons’ app to find a non-chain pub. This was an easy and safe walk up the road (dedicated foot/cycle path mostly set back from the 40mph road) and a lucky find. Beers were a little limited but at least they had Doom bar (sadly free pour not draft) and opted for a pint as I perused the menu and saw other dishes go by. -All looked and smelled good. Boringly I opted for Scampi and Chips which was perfectly cooked and with great Tartar Sauce. Atmosphere was relaxed and you could sit near the bar (as I did) or at table clothed tables. All set to a 1980s soundtrack (which made me happy). Desserts looked good too, but was no longer hungry.

Came here last week for dinner, amazing food and service. I had the Thai green curry and my partner had the Steak Dianne. Food was delicious as always and huge portions!! Service was quick and the staff were lovely and very accommodating. Bora went above and beyond for us and we had a great evening!

The staff are very friendly and the food is tasty. I had the Ceasar Salad. It was lovely, well presented and was a generous portion . Plenty of all of the ingredients . Hubby and daughter had the lamb shank which they said was gorgeous. My son in law had the roast chicken. It looked lovely. The roast potatoes looked nice and crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Some of the family had the crumble and again, looked lovely. The custard was plentiful.

When we visit Farnbourgh we always go here to eat . We stumbled on restaurant and discovered excellent food , beer is a clean pint . The venue is spotless and the staff are welcoming, very friendly and accommodating to my food requests. Worth a visit. Really need more advertising on main road to get different customers. Thankyou to the owners

This place is a true hidden gem. We saw the sign and decided to pull in as we were quite peckish. Great beer, friendly staff, the food was lovely and incredibly generous portions provided excellent value for money. We will definitely be returning.

Amazing food, bit pricey but worth every penny

We popped in Sunday for lunch, Used to be a real busy restaurant and you would struggle to get a table. Unfortunately this certainly isn’t the case anymore! You couldn’t fault the service as we were one of only two tables in there - food was a 6/10 at best - roast was definitely pre cooked and not what it used to be. Overall very disappointing and won’t be returning.

A party of 19 guests went to the Crab & Anchor on Sunday May 19th. The food was excellent and plentiful and the service was good too. We would certainly recommend it to family and friends as a nice place to eat.

Quite often come here for a meal. Food is always lovely and a wide selection of different meals compared to other local restaurants and pubs.

Even with the lights, there were windows that were letting in some gorgeous sunshine from outside. The service was great, but unfortunately there were only 2 members of staff for a full restaurant! There definitely needs to be more because it did take things like paying and ordering a bit longer than ideal. However, the staff were still great, checking on us and if we needed any drinks through the meal. The staff also were lovely and accommodating for my father, letting us have a take out box because he couldn't finish his meal. The food was great value for money and was delicious. The portions were very generous and the quality was lovely. My only suggestion would be to have some more veg on the chicken and pork dish, but overall, absolutely delicious and will be back!

Had a delicious lunch here, the food was really good quality at a great price. I'm glad we booked, as it was very busy (it was a Saturday), but we weren't rushed to vacate our table, which was good. The service was very good, although we did have trouble catching the eye of one member of staff at one point. But another was much more observant and came to us instantly. Will definitely be back for lunch and also for dinner at some point too, as the menu looks really good!

The menu is impressive. the only downside is that it doesn't give enough description of what else is served, i.e., mushrooms , pepprs !. The restaurant has a good atmosphere and is well decorated

Was very disappointed they didn’t cater for ceoliacs - they said they could make something gluten free for me but I experienced stomach pains in the evening so something must have been contaminated.

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to Harry and Sophie for the excellent service they have both provided tonight, the food was delicious followed By our drinks, will definitely be coming back, first time here so definitely made a good impression. Would recommend!

We didn’t have to put a deposit down ? Birthday meal with friends Excellent friendly service and food was good the size of the meals are more than enough . The staff even bought out the birthday cake with candles and sang happy birthday will be back for a visit real soon

Foods were great, however i can't say the same for service. It was bit slow. It took us 3 hours to have starters and mains for table of 4.

We have been coming here for around 10 years. We went to order and as I was not very hungry I ordered a starter ( £7.00) a side dish ( 4.50 ) and then asked for a child's spaghetti Bolognase. The waiter said I can't order a kids meal. I explained I wasn't hungry enough for a main and that I was also ordering a latte ( 00) and a cocktail ( 7.50 ). He said the kids meals are only for kids otherwise every one who came in would order a kids meal. ( i seriously don't think people going to the crab and anchor are looking for chicken nuggets, fish fingers, hamburger, with chips and peas or beans ). Should add my partner was ordering a soft drink and burger from the main menu. After an uncomfortable few minutes the waiter said on this occasion he would let me order it. I didn't get offered any beans or peas, total bill came to 48. It left an unsavoury feeling, and I won't be returning for a long time.

Had a lovely Sunday dinner today at The Crab and Anchor, food was excellent and the staff were really attentive and helpful, just wish the waiters and waitresses would smile a bit more. I have not been here for a while, but will definitely be back again soon as I had forgotten how nice this restaurant is and how good their menu is !

Such a shame they want £20 up front to reserve a table. Unheard of! We went to the Ivy and they don't ask for payment to secure a booking. Imagine trying to get that back if you have the cancel the booking. Shocking!

Lovely family meal in pleasant surroundings

Order a medium rare fillet steak, the chef clearly has no training in how to cook a thickly cut steak. Dry, burnt and inedible. The chips were poor too, greasy and exploded when you stuck your fork in. The mussels were obviously a microwave pack and not the best either. 12 of us went and most said they wouldn't go again.

Had Christmas meal today (17th December). It was absolutely amazing. When the menu said ‘with all the trimmings’ they weren’t kidding. Everything was also cooked to perfection. Thank you for a memorable Christmas dinner. We’ll be back soon.

Had work Xmas lunch last week. Decent food and friendly staff and service. Nothing to fault. Good pub restaurant.

Chose the Crab and Anchor for our work meal this year and they didn't disappoint. Pre-ordered from the christmas menu and usual menu for 13 people. Food came out hot and delicious. We all had a great night.

Had a lovely Sunday Lunch with my family for my dad's birthday. Most of us had a roast. I had the roast beef dinner and it was very Well presented. and tasted lovely meat, cook to perfection. Plenty of vegetables. Everybody enjoyed the lunch staff were very good at clearing the table glasses in coming up and asking for drinks very friendly and professional. Very good value for money. The wife & I have been coming to The Crab & Anchor for many years & have always enjoyed an excellent meal. The menu is pretty extensive, beef, chicken, pasta, sea food & vegetarian so there really is something for everyone. We usually visit during for weekend lunch, we don’t book & have always managed to get a table OK but I suspect it may be busier during the evening. Located tucked away behind Morrisons in Southwood Village Centre. Great for large family groups or as a couple. The staff have always been polite & friendly. This is a great local independent restaurant & so much better than the pub chains. We will return again soon :O)

OMG what a find!!!, I had possibly the BEST fish and chips I’ve ever eaten, lovely and fresh, with herbs running through the batter, huge portion ( which regrettably I couldn’t finish), lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, definitely worth a visit

My wife and I have just come home from having a roast dinner here. I had the lamb and my wife had the beef. I must say this was the best pub roast I think I have ever had. Compliments to the chef. I am usually a very fussy eater with at least something to complain about but not in this case. Well done to you guy's. 👏 😊

I can’t decide on 2 or 3 out of 5. This place used to be a regular for us but since Covid have only been back in on few occasions as has not been as good. Tried again this weekend, roast was tasty, other mains no longer come with vegetables so you have to pay extra, plates were not very well cleaned/dried, waitress rushed us through each stage of visit, didn’t pay any attention to what we were saying so wrong drinks on both rounds, the man who struts around is unfriendly and unhelpful. Tasty beef, tasty chicken, but no atmosphere (was very quiet for lunchtime), poor staff…. I assume other customers have given up too. Can get better elsewhere so we’re done with Crab and Anchor once and for all.

Amazingly diverse menu, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented food!

As locals we used to come for dinner most weeks pre-pandemic, having had years of fantastic meals with equally fantastic service, but some disappointing experiences afterwards stopped us for quite a while. We decided to book an early-ish Saturday dinner at 7pm thinking The Crab must be back to standard. Sadly this wasn’t the case. Despite a half empty restaurant and plenty of waiting staff, it took over 30 minutes before anyone took our drinks order and it continued like that. The nachos starter which used to be fabulous had a weird processed dip instead of real sour cream, and instead of salsa we had sweet chilli dip. Mains were over cooked but the chips with two mains were almost raw. We were asked if we wanted pudding and the waiter said he’d bring the board over; 15 minutes later he’s chatting with the barman and we’d had enough. Sadly for The Crab there’s more local choice now, with well trained staff, so that’s where we’ll be.

To be honest, I was a bit disappointed with yesterday's visit to the Crab and Anchor, which is a shame, as I have been there a few times before and it's been better. Yesterday, when we arrived, it took at least 5 minutes of standing by the "wait to be seated" area before anyone came over; plenty of staff looked at us, but all ignored, when someone did come over and ask if we had a booking, the manager then whisked them off to do something else! Finally we got seated and were immediately asked if we knew what we wanted to drink, we did so the drinks came pretty quickly. We also knew what we wanted to eat (Sunday roasts and a kids beef burger). The order was placed within 10 minutes of sitting down. However, it took another 50 minutes before we actually received our food. By the time our food came out, the whole area where we were sat had cleared out so, although they were pretty much full when we arrived, there were probably only 5 tables waiting for food when we finally got ours. The food was ok, the vegetables were very nice, except the parsnips were obviously very old as I physically couldn't cut through them, but the meat was over cooked and the Yorkshire's looked like they had been deep fried. All pleasant, just not really nice. After mains we chose and ordered puddings pretty fast. The girl who served us was obviously new, but was nice enough and trying, however, she wrote one of the puddings on the second page of her pad and forgot to put this through on the machine, so my pudding came out 10 minutes after everyone else had finished theirs and after I had chased them. Overall, it's a nice pub, and I would probably eat there again but not on a Sunday as i don't think they can handle the busyness yet. I saw they were advertising for waiting staff, so maybe it's just that they're lacking staff, or a lot of the staff are new and training, so I would give them the benefit of the doubt and try again as the pub itself is very nice.

Always like the Crab & Anchor. Its not a large place but that means you get better service; all the staff are obviously well trained. Good menu with vegetarian options and perfect portion sizes.

This was my choice as I haven't been for a number of years as I live in Australia. I must say it didn't disappoint. We had a waiter who had a sense of humour and was joining in with some banter which was refreshing. I had scampi and it was lovely, my cousins had a chicken breast dish and Moules Mariniere which were both incredible. Would definately recommend. In fact I have booked again already...maybe I will see how many visits I can get in before I go back, try a few more things on the extensive menu..bravo Crab and Anchor.

This restaurant used to be great. My family and I booked a table for my brothers birthday, we hadn’t been for a while so we were really looking forward to it, the food was always delicious and the service good. We were so disappointed. We waited nearly two hours for our food, it took almost an hour for our drinks to arrive. When we did eventually get our food the roast meat was poor but we were so hungry we didn’t complain until the end of our meal. We were presented a full bill with a service charge! Not even an apology. When it was raised about the length of time we waited and the quality of food the waitress was quite rude and not even empathetic. It’s not even like they were busy. Such a shame as this place used to be fantastic. We won’t be going back again.

Wow and not in a good way , I had a sea food grill ..too salty ,deep fried mussels were dried up and hard . It was our wedding Anniversary meal ,didn't want to make a complaint ,so when Marco came to see how our dinner was ,I told him how it was and said I'm hungry so eaten some of it, he shrugged his shoulders and said OK and walked off , no sorry for that . When we went to pay the bill husband said are you going to take something off as my wife didn't eat everything , he said well your wife saud she is hungry I will eat ,so you didn't give a chance to do anything , by this time I said to my husband don't worry pay for it its clearly my fault the food was bad and left .. very dissapointed no wonder the restaurant was dead !!!

What an awful place. They have stolen the donation tin from HappyCats Rescue and refusing to return. Their manager even assaulted our volunteer when she went to collect it. Reported to the police as stolen. Avoid 😡😡😡

When my friends come to visit me from Cambridge, I always bring them to the Crab & Anchor & we have always enjoyed ourselves. Today was no exception, the restaurant was very clean, the food was 1st class & the waiter service was excellent. They loved it, & can’t wait to come down again.

This was one of the most awful experience I've ever had. I went out for dinner with my family and with us was my 4 year old (who has special needs). The waiter took ages to take our order then with that our food took ages to come too. My child's food was last to come even when I ask for it to come as quickly as possible. The food was below average. After my child had finished his food he made a scream of delight with his Grandad who he was enjoying himself with. After this the waiter came up to me and said we don't expect behaviour like that in here and pointed my child and then asked us to leave. This was humiliation at its worst. We then asked to speak with the manager. The waiter had been told by the manager to tell us that my child wasn't well behaved which simply wasn't true. So I kept asking to see the management, the waiter then swore at me and told me to leave. The manager did end up coming and said he would only have this conversation outside which we agreed in the end. The manager then ended up being really rude and took a fighting boxer pose to my husband and dad like he wanted to fight them rather than talk. All in front of me and my very upset child. We walked away without getting our point across to say how humiliating it was and how out of order it was to be told to leave because toddler with special needs made a scream of delight. Also I wanted to ask why the two tables either side of us (all adults) wasn't asked to leave when the were a lot louder than us and we're swearing away. Don't come here especially if you have children.

After this the waiter came up to me and said we don't expect behaviour like that in here and pointed my child and then asked us to leave. This was humiliation at its worst. We then asked to speak with the manager. The waiter had been told by the manager to tell us that my child wasn't well behaved which simply wasn't true. So I kept asking to see the management, the waiter then swore at me and told me to leave. The manager did end up coming and said he would only have this conversation outside which we agreed in the end. The manager then ended up being really rude and took a fighting boxer pose to my husband and dad like he wanted to fight them rather than talk. All in front of me and my very upset child. We walked away without getting our point across to say how humiliating it was and how out of order it was to be told to leave because toddler with special needs made a scream of delight. Also I wanted to ask why the two tables either side of us (all adults) wasn't asked to leave when the were a lot louder than us and we're swearing away. Don't come here especially if you have children.

The food is amazing.. the menu could use some upgrades like a QR code on the table or pictures on a tablet

I love this pub! All family (my husband and two teenage girls) really enjoy the food freshly cooked and very friendly atmosphere. The staff is so friendly and I definitely can mention a lovely lady that always looks after us and greets us with a smile (Buruka - I hope I remembered well!). We will go back tomorrow for my younger daughter’s birthday, I highly recommend this pub! Elena, Farnborough.

Visited yesterday, it was busy and that made a nice atmosphere. Good menu with plenty to choose from. Food was amazing as it always is. Staff were friendly and attentive. We were there with friends and stayed chatting for ages but never felt we had to leave. Will be visiting again soon.
