The food used to be great here, but has really gone downhill during the last couple of years. I met a friend for lunch and we ordered the festive turkey sandwich. It looked good on the plate, but was seriously lacking in filling. The one turkey slice looked like the cheap, processed chicken roll usually found in supermarkets. The slab of stuffing was tasteless but bulked up the sandwich. Very disappointing. I can honestly say that a supermarket sandwich is far superior in taste and generosity. £8.95 for a skimpy sandwich is a ripp off.

Great menu until lockdown, now very depleted. Gone are the pannines and focaccias As a vegetarian just wanting a sandwich lunch there were only 2 available. Now the egg sandwich is gone although I believe it is on the afternoon tea menu. I tried the soup which was always good but that was thin and tasteless. The prices have gone up, £8.95 for a sandwich with a bit of greenery is outrageous. I've been coming here for years and I will be sorry to look elsewhere but other local places have more choice and better prices.

Went for Sunday Lunch. It was like 'home cooking', if your mum is an indifferent cook. My wife is not a fan of crunchy veg so she asked if they can be tender (ie nuke for 1 min in the microwave) the waitress asked and returned with "The veg come as they come" Well your review has "Come as it Comes" The Garden Centre itself is outstanding though, the Christmas display would shame Harrods.

Visited your Twickenham branch today to have a drink and a snack - scones crumbled to next to nothing but what was worse was the two overbearing management staff shouting derogatory remarks and instructions to the waiting staff. The cafe was not busy and in fact half empty due to holidays meaning there was no pressure on these people. We found this unnecessary and off putting- as in Years gone by when staff cannot manage they bully. We reassured our waiter that he had done nothing wrong but he still looked dejected. May we suggest these staff attend a customer services course and get proper management training

Food average. Coronation Chicken sandwich had more cucumber than chicken. Bread dry and tasteless. Miserable male staff member ordered me to sit down for table service, looked in charge, not a hint of a smile or seasons greeting. Sandwich arrived with side salad but no cutlery or napkin. When I asked where the tea was, ordered at the same time, was told drinks and sandwiches are prepared by different teams and would come later. It did. About 5 minutes later the tea arrived. Lots of young staff doing their best but no real control. Classic example of a customer facing operation run with the manager interests in mind and not the customers. Overpriced sandwich at £7.95. No dressing with salad. Poor experience and won’t be back.

I had scambled egg, 2 pieces of bacon, 2 sausages, mushrooms, very yummy indeed, def would recommend & very good price. Thanks to Louise & other staff. Popped in for coffee and cake on a rare day off from work. Used NHS app to check in then waited And waited. And stood. One server said her colleague would seat me. Stood , waited. Then original server came back and took me to table. Order taken. Then a considerable wait to receive it. Bearing in mind that only half full at the time. Coffee ( which was very good ) arrived as did cake. Server remarked it was all going wrong at the coffee machine at the moment.! She left and then I noticed no napkin or cutlery. Tried attracting attention from my table to no avail so, mask back on to go back to the counter to request them. I chose to come here to support a local business instead of a large chain. I wouldn’t want to come back if they are any busier !

On arrival, was given the wrong menu. After waiting an inordinate amount of time for the supposed table service that had to be prompted (as no one came), we could not order anything as it was the wrong menu. Eventually I revived another menu, and once we had made our choice, we were told we could not order the drinks we wanted as the food was supposedly not substantial enough. We therefore changed our drinks order. After 45 minutes of waiting, our drinks arrived (but no food). The cafe was certainly not busy or understaffed! After another 30 minutes of waiting our food arrived with an order missing. I therefore had to re-order my food again, and wait even more time. Absolute joke!!

We have eaten here in the past and it was fine so we thought we would have Sunday lunch. I ordered roast chicken with fine beans, roast potatoes, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, carrots, cauliflower, and an onion gravy with an apple crumble and custard desert to follow. £14.95 for the main course. The restaurant had good covid measures in place so no concerns there. The main courses arrived without cutlery or condiments and I initially noticed that there was no Yorkshire pudding. I asked why not and the waitress went off for some time whilst we watched our lunch go cooler. I then noticed no fine beans and no stuffing however some peas appeared to have been put there to replace the three other missing ingredients. I was told they had run out of Yorkshire pudding. No reason for missing the other ingredients. It looked like a child's meal bulked up with peas and carrots. The chicken was ok albeit a very small portion the veg a bit on the hard side although edible. No sign of the apple crumble. My wife had to catch a waiters attention and ask for it. The desert was ok but again a small portion for the price. I would say don't bother eating here. The Sunday lunch just isn't good enough for the price. There are better places to eat locally. The service us sporadic and to simply replace 3 key ingredients with peas and think that is acceptable is not on. Overpriced and underwhelming.

We have been delighted to return for our regular refreshments at Squires. The new brunch menu which includes toast, juice and coffee with a generously filled plate of the traditional breakfast items is a happy move and is strongly recommended. Plus the lunch menu has some new items which are very much to our taste. Above all, the coffee maintains it's high standard including a delicious iced latte on a baking hot day - two actually as we had one each. Perfect flavour and just the right temperature. Booking on line is recommended but not essential although the cafe is starting to get really busy again. Health requirements are fully complied with. Above all, you are made to feel welcome.

Although there were few customers in the cafe we were told that if it rained we could still not sit inside with our small dog but they would put our cakes in a box to take away! It seemed a very inflexible approach. The outside area was shabby and table/chairs were chipped and worn. The cake and drinks were good and we were just able to consume them before the heavy rain started. Phew!

Squires Garden Centre seemed like the perfect location for our gardening groups annual festive lunch. The centre was well organised taking our menu choices in advance and providing a heated marquee attached to its regular cafe. But you either roasted or froze depending on the location of your seat! The starters were delivered promptly and were generous and tasty. There then followed nearly an hours wait for the main, which was beautifully presented but the food did not match style with over cooked turkey and some uncooked veg. The deserts were delicious and the waiting staff worked hard and couldn’t have been more accommodating. So a mixed experience, would I go back - probably not. Sorry Squires.

The garden centre is lovely and the cafe should be nice, the food is straightforward and pleasant - but we had a problem. We ordered at 14:04 on a Saturday in May four basic meals: a jacket potato, flatbread, plate of chips for the fussy child and child’s macaroni cheese for the other one. The jacket potato came out at 14:30 - but on its own: leaving one adult eating while the children whined about not having theirs (a somewhat stressful eating situation!).I asked a waiter if he could find out how long it might be so I could tell the children, but he shrugged, said he didn’t know and that “the kitchen is busy”.At 15:04, an hour after the original order, I went to the till and asked about it again. This time they realised they’d made a mistake and redid the order. They also refunded our bill in full in cash. The food arrived at 15:19 - just 15 minutes after our reorder. I want to like this place - and once we spoke to the right person, we were taken seriously and the mistake was dealt with. It’s regrettable that the waiter wasn’t empowered enough - or didn’t know what to do with a question like mine - to resolve things 20 minutes earlier.

First of all the Garden Centre is good and well worth a visit. As mentioned it is good for parking, so I used to take my mother there for lunch from time to time. The food is adequate - whilst not being at all adventurous it appeals to the older palate I would say. You have to queue to place an order and pay then and there but then it is delivered to your table. Service is variable but the staff are generally lovely. If it's busy - and it often is - service can be slow. Over the past year I would say the quality and quantity have not improved and it could really use a makeover.

Unfortunately, (for a cafe) the menu is on the pricey side and in the past when I was served an extremely bitter coffee the staffs' reply was "that's how it comes". "Really? you mean gross?" The restaurant is very popular with older diners, and if the coffee has improved the 2 for one-morning special before a browse in the shop seems a nice way to start one's day.

Having eaten here informally throughout the year, I was determined to try their special three course Christmas Lunch. There wasn't a booking available last year, but the three of us bagged a table in November. We all took the standard Roast Turkey and all the usual accompaniments, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, carrots, parsnips, sprouts and red cabbage served by a very attentive and professional Georgina who had set up Christmas tables with crackers, name place card, and napkins. It all looked delightful and tasted delicious, arriving on large platters with a Yorkshire pudding held high by two servers! There was hardly room for the pudding, which fortunately was a petite round of tasty Christmas pudding, served with hot fresh custard. A really traditional treat and not a sign of 'fine dining', just good old fashioned cooking - hot and plentiful. You might get a booking in this Café if you phone now - but bring a big appetite - three courses for only £18.95 each and wines/beers at reasonable prices PLUS really friendly, efficient and homely service.

Enticed by vouchers given with previous purchases, we have done the trip from Epsom on three successive weekends to have breakfast. Very good and at a reasonable cost, served by friendly staff. One gets to choose six different dishes. I am 'difficult' in the sense I don't like eggs and some other standard breakfast offerings but there was plenty nevertheless to choose from: bacon x 2 (with the server picking out at my request the crispiest pieces), sausage, mushrooms, hash browns and fried bread. All very tasty and generous. We will probably go back even without any vouchers. We did encounter queues on one of our three visits - one to pay and get tea/coffee, the second to be served. A sign of how popular breakfasts here are. I agree with one previous reviewer though that coffee can as a result cool down too much.We haven't.had lunch here but on one occasion I did have Welsh Rarebit, which seems to be a standard Squires offering, at another branch. It was really just cheese on toast. Perfectly decent cheese on toast but not what I would call Welsh Rarebit.

We often visit for a snack lunch during the week. It can get very busy at times but the kitchen now copes well and we are usually served within 10-15 minutes. We usually have the hot sandwiches which are well presented, fresh, tasty and generous portions. It is good value and we reckon on around £7.50 per head including a hot or cold drink.

Lovely place to go and see even if your not buying! Really nice to see a garden centre isn't just for buying plants but you pretty much can buy anything and everything. But you can't help yourself and buy something, but well worth it.

Back to try other items on the menu at this newly discovered informal lunch stop. We thought to try the fish and chips £8.95 (listed as a main) and the blackened fillet of cod £10.95 (under light bites) with cider as our chosen beverage. Both were excellent value, and I particularly would recommend the cod loin with wild rice as a healthier option to battered fish and chips (although this was well cooked and tasty too). Squires Garden Centres have several local branches, so we may go on tour! As said in a previous review, a good place for all the family to drop in and with the bonus of the Christmas goods now in store.

We were a family of 5, you just have to pick up a menu whilst either standing around or trying to find a table which is a challenge. Several tables free but all dirty, no one was clearing the tables. So I had salad and a warm slice of Spanish omelette as a deal for £8.95 got in the long chaotic queue which was now amongst the tables where people were trying to set their food, not very relaxing with a queue next to you. The other 4 members of my family were stood in trying to decide what they wanted. There was only 2 people serving, it was 1 but a 2nd person came along after about 5 mins of us queuing and by then the queue was about 15 people deep. The two servers were also doing the hot drinks as well as the food ordering and taking payment. There were people standing around and my Spanish Omelette was now almost cold and we were still about 10 deep in the queue. We gave up, I put the tray down and we left. It was chaotic, expensive, no clean tables and certainly not relaxing.I would be very reluctant to return which is a shame as my lunch did look very appetising.

I visited for breakfast, you stand in a queue to pay for your meal, and order your breakfast. You then go to another queue to select your breakfast options. I waited about 5 minutes in the second line and having got the meal and sorted a table took the first sip of a 5 minute old coffee.......not the hottest.I can think of better ways to organise the system, ensuring a hot meal, and drink. Two queues is one two many.

Squires Garden Centres have a good local reputation for their wide stock of plants, aquatics and accessories. We are lucky to have a few Centres in our area - but this is the first time we have eaten in the Twickenham Café. This is not a 'fine dine' experience, but has well priced and home cooked food all served hot and tasty. I have heard good things about the Sunday Lunch, but today, being a Thursday,we tried fish and chips (a reasonable portion of fresh cod) home cut chips and served with garden peas and tartare sauce.(£8.95) The atmosphere, style and decor is rather uninspiring but clean and comfortable. Suitable for both young families, couples, singles and the elderly or disabled, as tables arranged widely spaced - all on one level. We finished with a shared ice cream sundae - using Movenpick Swiss ice cream, it was delicious and was abundant with walnuts and maple sauce. (£4.95). Must return on a Sunday to taste the home cooked Yorkshire pud.

We went here on our way home from a birthday outing with my dad, and fancied a cup of tea and cake so we went here. There wasnt much choice in terms of cake , which is a shame so we opted to having just a pot of tea. The queue was long, and eventually one of the staff opened the other till. the queuing system could be better as I hate to be there when its Breakfast or Lunch as in my experience at the Shepperton one your food is cold by the time you get to a table. Perhaps food should be ordered at the till and they bring it over like at Longacres? However the member was apologetic and dealt with our order quickly

We had a Sunday lunch here as a spontaneous decision, we were there for the garden centre but decided we were hungry. You wouldn't choose this as a destination or for it's atmosphere- it's like a garden centre cafe not a restaurant, but boy was the Sunday lunch good!A huge portion of chicken, with roast potatoes, a large Yorkshire pudding (a proper one, not a ready made frozen one!) and so many veg- carrots, peas, green beans, broccoli, parsnip and red cabbage as well as 3 pigs in blankets, all topped with gravy! You order at the counter when they serve the drinks and then bring the food out to you when it's ready. It was a bit of a wait, but to be honest I'd rather wait and have it freshly cooked and as tasty as it was, but we weren't offered any options, so if you were fussy about not having something with your meal or wanted to know which vegetables you'll get you'll need to ask. The staff were fine, the kind of service you 'd expect in a cafe rather than a pub or restaurant- nothing bad, just nothing outstanding. However I did ask if I could have half my chicken wrapped in foil to take home and the lad was happy to do so and came back with it in a little plastic container which was nice! I'd really recommend coming here if you don't fancy cooking a Sunday lunch, it's probably not the right place for an occasion meal but certainly good value and yummy food. Other food we saw coming out also looked good and generously portioned.

Came in conjunction with a voucher they give out after a purchase. Recommend the 6 piece breakfast. Tasty and even the mushrooms were eaten, which is often not true. The smoothies are ok but not amazing. They're mixed with apple juice and frozen fruit and taste predominantly of apples. The staff are pleasant but the atmosphere feels flat in there.

This is probably the best garden centre around the staff appear to know what they are talking about, and if they do not there is a resident expert who knows everything. Of you want to get inspiration and make your garden fabulous come here. However the prices of plants and in fact everything is very high probably the most expensive in the TWICKENHAM area.

Often go for breakfast at Squires, and I find that the staff are ok, no recognition that you are a regular, it's hard work to get a rapport with them, they are just doing a Job and don't come across service minded , breakfast is generally good value but sometimes eggs are too greasy. It's a shame as we now go to a more expensive place for breakfast and they are one step ahead with their service delivery which makes us feel valued for the £340 a year we spend on take out breakfasts as a family . Check out staff on the other hand are gems . Hit and miss needs more consistency please for me to return .

We have morning coffee at Squires three or four times a week (before 10.00 it's two for the price of one and we're pensioners so....) and it is our cafe of choice because of the quality of the coffee used (Illy) and the trouble put into preparing it by the staff who additionally are all very friendly. It is very good coffee and well worth visiting the cafe for it. In addition, we are regular lunchers and breakfasters there too because the food is good quality, a decent choice, well-prepared and extremely well-priced. Even better when one of the regular offers is taken advantage of! Oh yes, it's also rare for us to get away without buying something in the garden centre as well

We took my mother-in-law here for afternoon tea as she wanted to buy some Xmas presents. The service was very slow as not nearly enough staff. we ordered scones which were awful, possibly the worst I have ever had. We took them back and were told it was probably a bad batch as they bought them in - they claimed to be hand-cooked! We were eventually offered a refund but rather begrudgingly. The manager wasn't available and the lovely girl we spoke to looked shattered. The tables weren't being cleared and were dirty, someone came up whilst I was waiting to ask for a table to be cleared so she could eat her food. On the plus side the freshly squeezed orange juice was good. More staff needed, fresh scones and a manager who will talk to customers. We won't be coming back.

It took us 20 plus minutes to order 3 coffees and 2 scramble eggs on toast and we were at the front of the queue! Bazaar system - choose table, order food giving selected table and wait an inordinately long time for them to get your order together. Meanwhile your table has been taken by someone else and confusion reigns. Scramble egg was generous but watery. Service is awful.

Squires Cafe is really rather good whatever time day you go. During busy periods, you may have to queue for a while to order food but it will be brought to your table so at least you can sit down while waiting. Squire's Magazine regularly has special offers and the ones for the cafe are definitely worth taking up.Today I went with a friend for Festive Afternoon Tea. I had to book and also decide which sandwiches we wanted and which scones. When we arrived our table was waiting for us in a separate part of the seating area. It was decorated for Christmas with crackers and festive napkins. Our drinks arrived and then the tiered plate rack with sandwiches, scones, cream and jam and lastly mince pies. The scones and mince pies were warm and delicious. It was a real treat and all for £6 each with a special voucher. You can't do much better than that.

Squires is a great place to buy anything 'garden' related and pet related too, it is pricey but I have found the plants last well. The cafe has a good selection of food although waiting times on a busy day can be long, the breakfasts and children's menu are a personal favorite for us as they are good value for money and a good portion size. We also love the 'overseas good' section, lots of sweets from America if you fancy treating yourself. Also sell local wine and honey. The only downside I would say is the fact they sell animals, without any home checks, who are kept in small cages under bright lights. I think there is enough floating around in rescue already, it seems it is very easy to turn up on a whim and buy pets from here.
