Went for the carvery with my family for my birthday and was very dissapointed. Roast potatoes were overcooked and very hard, the gravy was like water. Vegetables were Ok and the meat but will not go there again as very poorly cooked food.

This was the worst Christmas lunch in my 86 years, having to pay the full amount of the bill in advance, regardless of the standard of food I found very strange, then to be told by the manager that it was company policy,I had to accept . The starter was good, but as I had Sea Bass as a main and could not cut it,I turned it over to find that it was still frozen and uncooked.By the time that I found a member of staff and complained my families dinner were cold. They then replaced the fish with Turkey but got only from the man in charge that they would reimburse me for the fish. I have been back twice and the Manager {Sam} offered me two Sunday Carveries as compensation.Having spent £320 for 4 mealshttps://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/UserReview-g503821-d529369-Alton_House_Hotel-Alton_Hampshire_England.htmllus drinks that was not acceptable,as I often use their carvery, and have used the hotel for over 50 years. Never Again. The Manager has not answered my e mail and obviously has no hospitality skills. Please Mr Bailey replace him.

Below is a copy of the e-mail I have sent to the hotel management. "Having given the matter careful thought, I feel I need to express my disappointment at our Christmas Day lunch with you today. On arrival, if you are insisting on having all the car number plates registered, it would have been nice to have someone at the entrance, taking our number and showing us where to park, rather than being left to our own devices. We then had to find our own table. Fair enough, my name was on a placard on the table, but I would have thought it would be courteous if someone could have been at the door, showing us where our table was. We had booked for the 14.00 sitting, but arrived some 10 minutes early. The food was served almost straight away, so had obviously been prepared and plated in advance; this even included the soup for one of the grand-children – we had requested tomato, as he did not like the menu offering of chestnut. As this was “off menu”, I would have thought it would be prepared “to order” and arrive piping hot, but it was only luke warm. There was no ready offer of drinks, and we had to chase one of the waiters to order some. I would have thought there should be a wine/drinks list to peruse, but this was not forthcoming. I do not know what “make” the Sauvignon Blanc was, but my wife said it was unrecognisable as a SB. When the main course arrived, the vegetables were barely luke-warm, and we had to get them sent back to the kitchen, where they were presumably nuked in the microwave to get them hot. They obviously could not have been served “freshly cooked”. The menu states “To finish tea, coffee and truffles”, but we were expected to go out to another room and help ourselves. This is not the sort of service I would expect having paid £69 a head. Additionally , your brochure states “with treats for the children”. Nothing materialised! Finally, to add to the indignity, we appear to have been overcharged. 3 adults (£69) and 2 children (£34-50) come to £276, whereas I have been charged £50 deposit and £228 “final payment”. Your comments would be appreciated.

Estamos replanteando volver

We can highly recommend the Sunday roast at the Alton House hotel. The food was excellent the service and attention to detail can't be faulted. The price for 2 courses was £12.95 so we felt it was fab value for money. We will definitely be returning!!

We had a family meal here last Sunday (21st September) and it was fantastic, were had a family gathering at the hotel for my dads birthday, we had a good range of guests aged from 2 years old to 63 and the menu was fantastic.I opted for the Sunday lunch option with several guests doing the same and the children had the option of a childs Sunday roast or something from the children's menu (Burger, Fish Fingers etc) Everyone agreed the food was wonderful. The staff were so helpful and always available to help with everything including secretly storing the birthday cake until it was time to let the birthday boy blow out his candles, many thanks to every one at Alton House, you really made my dads day.

Typical pub food in the cafe/bar area, staff helpful and very pleasant. Prices for ample size dishes very reasonable indeed, but do not expect to see any AA rosetttes or fine dining!

We visited the hotel for Mothering Sunday Lunch and had as wonderful time, the menu had something for everyone and my mother in law loved the Lamb, i had the Asparagus followed by the beef and the most delicious Toffee desert I have had in a long time, we arrived a bout 10 mins before 1pm and were shown straight to our table. The staff were very attentive, I must mention in particular George who served our drinks and Ann that showed us to our table and made sure we were comfortable, everyone was so nice, we even had a change to chat to the manager who was in the hall most of the time we were there. I haven't visited the hotel in many years and it was so nice to see some familiar faces amongst the staff, they greeted me like an old friend. we didn't stay at the hotel as we only live a 5 min drive away. The icing on the cake (pardon the pun) were the little fairy cakes that they gave out after the meal, my mother in law loved it and immediately took a picture to share on facebook for her friends to see. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon, we will pop down soon and try your lunchtime deal.

Had a great lunch for three of us yesterday. The steak I had was really good for a pub offering and the others liked their fish and chips and burger. The service was excellent (well done Dillon) and we will go back again.

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. They don't seem to know what they are doing. I booked a double room with breakfast back in Feb 24 for the 15th June 2024. Unfortunately I had to cancel this and rebook for another date. Luckily I kept all correspondence relating to this because they called me on the 15th June to ask what time I was checking in. They didn't believe I had cancelled and said I would be charged. I sent them the confirmation twice before they agreed to not charge me. No apology though! I then got an email to say they were also cancelling my July booking because the price has increased and they wanted me to rebook at the higher price. I told them to shove it, there is a Premier inn down the road that was cheaper and way easier to book. Awful place.

No longer a pub - it was closed down months ago and has been undergoing a lot of construction work. There is local talk of it having been purchased some type of medical conglomerate.

We went for one of the midweek roast events and what a disappointment it was. There was a very lukewarm welcome when we arrived and we were directed to the table with a point of the finger. The food was served quickly and just plonked in front of us. There was no asking what we’d pre-ordered so two of us got the wrong meals. This was rectified when we told them. It was hot but was very mediocre. I think my lamb died of old age. I couldn’t cut it, it was that tough. The potatoes were OK, the peas were peas that had once been frozen, carrots overcooked, the gravy was like water, the parsnips were OK and the saving grace was the cheese sauce on the cauliflower/brocolli. The Apple crumble was nice but again just plonked in front of us. The custard was lumpy. How much was all of this? It was a whopping £25 a head without so much as a jug of water on the table. It was daylight robbery. We wont be back.
