SQ Bar & Restaurant in North Devon

We had our wedding reception at SQ last weekend, thanks to Ollie, Haydon & the amazing team for a fantastic buffet, service & beautiful setting. It was our very best day! ❤️ Highly regarded & recommended, Andy & Ginny xx

We use SQ Bar and Restaurant fairly regularly and get brilliant service, personal care and a very easy atmosphere. Lovely roof garden in nice weather. However I really wanted to say how terrific they were when we chose them to cater a family 90th Birthday party. Very personal service, exceptionally kind and generous with their time for the elderly organiser of the party, very flexible and looooaads of excellent food, very fresh and delicious. Would definitely use again and recommend.

Very disappointing Sunday lunch ! We are very frequent visitors to the other establishments of this family business so thought we’d give SQ a try! One of the worst meals we have had! Long wait for drinks My wine was sitting there on the bar had to ask for it arrived then before the cloudy glass of bitter Sunday lunch the roast lamb was minced and inedible my beef was ok. Vegetables were very hard. No Mint sauce for lamb - ran out! Meal wasn’t particularly hot. Remarked when asked if everything ok as a lot uneaten and told “sorry about that” by a young lad who should have got someone to speak to us Pudding was ok nothing special Was given bill for £80 it was incorrect it was changed to £50.80 the correct charge when we pointed it out. Staff aren’t great very disinterested - they need to be trained to the standard of your other restaurants which are excellent.

Attentive staff, lovely varied menu which catered for my need for mussels before we left Devon, and my husbands hatred for seafood. Mussels were amazing. Husband had spiced chicken burger which was amazing. Wine good. All very reasonably priced. All in all a great lunch

Nice bar,prompt and efficient service but nearly £5 for a tiny tin of fries (think half a cup full) takes the p***. Decent service and a nuce atmosphere.

Accommodated us without a booking on a busy Friday night. There was a wide choice on the menu, including dietary requirements, and the food was tasty. Service was friendly and efficient. Nice separate spaces of restaurant upstairs and part downstairs and pub/bar downstairs

We Like coming here for drinks with either friends, as a family or as a couple. It's clean, tidy and hospitable. The only small downside is having one toilet for ladies downstairs and just two cubicles in the ladies upstairs.

Excellent menu with pizzas, bistro style dishes plus curries at generally reasonable prices. The platter of olives, focaccia for starter was generously sized. Really nice upstairs but got a little warm later in the evening. Cocktails went down well and it was great to see real ale served from cask as well as the usual keg beer selection. The GT on pump was really well looked after. Friendly service but it got a bit busy later. Nonetheless I will be happy to return!

Attended SQ for drinks on Saturday. The staff were excellent, friendly and welcoming but the Manager was extremely rude to several customers. He was also totally unprofessional and arrogant how he spoke to and treated his staff members. If that's the way he runs this establishment I will certainly not be using it again!

We had a lovely evening. We had excellent food, well presented at a good price with cheerful and efficient service. An extensive menu, nice decor and artwork, good wine, alcohol free Guinness, cocktails. We will definitely be back.

Had a lovely lunch today, I had Fish Pie, my wife had Beef Bourguignon. As you can see by the photos, very well presented and only £10 per dish. We treated ourselves to a cocktail as they are great !

Menu looked great and a good deal on the set menu. Hubby had fillet steak which was good but they forgot the sauce, which did come when requested.f Disappointed with the whole plaice, not much on it when you take the bone out! Very nice setting but just didappointing when staff are not trained properly not knowing what the fish of the day is, can't tell salt from pepper cellars,not checking they are full. May sound trivial but good service is as important as good food so sadly would not visit again.

Came here with my partner and it definitely didn’t disappoint, we both had the leak and potato soup for starters and it was really nice and tasty, we both had the fillet steak and both steaks were cooked to perfection, everything here was top class and highly recommended

We had a party of 15 for a bottomless brunch on a Saturday afternoon , and had a great time. The food was very good, and the cocktails were spot on too. All the staff were very friendly and attentive , making for a lovely experience . Great value too.

Couldn't say enough about this place! Wonderful food and great service. My wife loves the cocktails but for me it's all about the draft and they have a great selection.

The spot is great for an amazing night out, the staff are lovely and efficient and the bar has a wide variety of drinks which are all great. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone travelling though North Devon

SQ is an asset to Braunton, Olly and Hayden are always very welcoming and make every effort to accommodate their customers. The atmosphere is warm and especially feels a safe and comfortable place to go either for coffee, lunch or cocktails and dinner, even if you are a female on your own. Not many places where this is the case! The menu has something to suit everyone and the prices are reasonable. I am Coeliac and they make sure there are suitable gluten free options at all times

Will be avoiding in the future. Very expensive for what was an average, underwhelming meal. Service was poor, slow and there was food left from previous diners under the table. Overall a truly disappointing experience.

I had the worst experience here! The manager who I believe was called Olly, was so rude to me and my friends on entry puffing and sighing as if he didn’t want to do his job or be there. We were taken to our table where we were again rudely sat and told if we wanted to be there to order at the bar. Some of the waitresses were lovely but I am really disappointed that the establishment allow someone as rude and unwelcoming as the manager to be doing that kind of role. As for setting an example for his staff I think the workplace are better off hiring a better manager who cares for the work place

We had a lovely meal and red wine at SQ. We chose from the specials menu which is always changing and great value. We both had the prawn and monkfish skewer for starters and followed by the fish of the day which was a whole place, lovely ( see photos ). It should be a quiet Wednesday night in the village but the reputation of SQ being so good means that there is always a lovely bustling atmosphere, especially as we like to sit near the immaculate open kitchen. The owners of SQ do not ever serve low quality wine, and they regularly check that the best wine is available but not at a rip off price which is admirable:) We are so lucky to have to have SQ in the village and looking forward to the summer, up on the open terrace 🌞

I use to love coming into this establishment with friends and family but after the last couple of recent visits, I am sad to say I won’t b returning. The way members of staff are spoken too is unacceptable and considering I see myself as a ‘local’ and that I come into this restaurant often, newer customers seemed to be ignored over what I assume is the ‘regulars’ (groups of older men with pints by the bar). I want to eat at a place where I feel like my presents is wanted not where I’m pushed into a corner and ignored.

Dinner and breakfast the following day as staying at Sleep Squires. Really nice relaxed atmosphere, attentive, welcoming service and delicious food on both occasions. Steak cooked to perfection, daughter’s pizza delicious - recommend the truffle fries! Same stellar service and well cooked breakfast in the morning Will definitely return and recommend

I enjoyed nice food with 2 family members, we all had different meals and all were very nice, waitress who served us was very pleasant, however, overall the one hour wait time for food was extremely poor (only main meals ordered). We were not informed of the wait time at any point and did ask after around 40 minutes if our food was coming and was told it would be with us shortly. As stated the food was very good, but with no apology or explanation for the long wait, I would not consider eating here again.

An extremely busy night, fully booked. What can I say, it was exceptional from start to finish. Birthday celebration and so glad we chose SQ. The attention to detail, and the thoughtfulness for the birthday boy was far and above the expectation. Thank you so much once again. Keep doing what you’re doing !!

Had a fabulous time with delicious food. We were very well looked after. Would like to give our waitress, Amy, a special mention. She looked after our table, as well as others, very professionally. A definite asset for the Restaurant. I lost my ring but next day Amy phoned to say it had been found. She is a star. Thank you SQ for making our afternoon so very special. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

Fantastic evening wreath making and the food was absolutely amazing..as usual the staff were very welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. Excellent value for money...we will definitely being going there again. Thankyou and Merry Christmas .

We had a lovely Christmas brunch and were thoroughly looked after by Amy who kept checking we were happy and kept us topped up.

Affordable dining in comfortable surroundings. Extensive menu and generous portions and great to find somewhere on a Sunday that doesn't just serve Roasts all day! Be careful if using the adjacent car park, it has a reputation!
