Spuds and Berries Farm Shop in Selby

The BEST Sunday lunch anywhere! I've been with my partner and various friends numerous times on different days, and always had excellent meals. Looking forward to our next visit. The farm shop is also very good, lots of fresh produce and lots to look at.

Absolutely fabulous food and great value for money. We took advantage of the Friday night 3 for £20. There’s a good choice on the special menu. We were with another couple and we each had a different starter. Everything was presented beautifully, brought out promptly and tasted delicious. Mains were equally good - the beef bourguignon was amazing and was accompanied with onion mash, a bowl of mixed green vegetables and a jug of sauce that included shallots, mushrooms and beef. The staff were pleasant and friendly, giving us time between courses but still being attentive. Desserts were delicious and generously portioned with one of our party taking their sticky toffee pudding home. Overall a lovely evening with fabulous, quality food and excellent value for money.

Dined here on the £20 3 course menu on Friday. Always amazing food, amazing staff and highly recommend booking here. You always have to book in advance because they book up very quickly. Dined here 4 times now and will return.

We feel very lucky to have this restaurant close by and really enjoy visiting. The quality of the food is excellent. On Fridays, they have a 3 course menu for £20 which is excellent value. The staff are always friendly and the chef listens to the customer. I thoroughly recommend Spuds ‘n Berries.

Spuds and Berries used to be one of our favourite spots for breakfast/lunch, seems the last couple of times it’s been a little disappointing, food still ok but just as good as other places serving similar menus. The first time we went, my partner asked if he could have scrambled egg instead of the fried egg, to which he was told no because it costs too much to make scrambled egg, he requested no egg but maybe an extra slice of bacon, his breakfast arrived absolutely piled with extra bacon, yet couldn’t have the scrambled egg because it was too costly? Today we went for breakfast, instead of asking for the scrambled egg, we asked if the egg in general could be replaced with a hash brown which was the exact same price as the egg on the ‘extras’ list, we was told no we wasn’t allowed to do that, it used to be allowed but became confusing for the chef when there was big tables… There was no big tables, in fact only 5 people in the whole place, 2 of them was us. As I work in a restaurant myself, I do understand there needs to be a line drawn somewhere but wow, talk about keeping the customers happy… definitely didn’t seem bothered about that at all, and this is no insult to the front of house, they’re only doing as they’re told. It’s sad to see you have got rid of the tea leaves and strainers with the pot of tea, that was always a nice touch, now just replaced by your bog standard tea bag. The breakfast it’s self was ok… not a great deal of seasoning on the full Yorkshire and the Hollandaise sauce on the Eggs Royale was cold but other than that, it was edible. These may be really petty issues but they’re stuff that would personally make our eating out a much nicer experience, especially when things don’t come cheap. Safe to say, we won’t be returning now, I just hope one day it can back to a place it once was.

The restaurant has become a bit of a favourite for my wife and I. Always excellent food served by warm and welcoming staff. Tonight we took advantage of their Friday evening special (3 courses for £20) and it didn’t disappoint. We can also speak up for the traditional Sunday lunch here too. I’ll never be slim!

So noisy in there; it was pretty full of guests and busy but not a relaxed atmosphere at all, people talking at the tops of their voices and more!! After a decent main, I chose the cheesecake for dessert. It tasted stale and was very soggy. The tall blonde-haired staff member came over, as she'd noticed me grimacing at my food. She asked me if everything was alright and I told her I wasn't happy with the dessert and her retort in broad Yorkshire, was, (yes, you've guessed it, that old chestnut, wait for it, you've heard it before ! ) "No one else has complained" and flounced off. What a b. cheek. She should have apologised to me and offered to change it. Why did she even bother to ask me, if she was unprepared to, at least, understand my displeasure? My friends were paying so I didn't pursue the matter. I certainly won't be going there again. These kinds of unpleasant experiences make it difficult to decide whether it's worth splashing out about 80 quid and driving 20 miles and going to the effort of preparing to go out for a meal. The owners of Spuds and Berries should not have a negative attitude towards their paying customers. If they don't respect people then why are they in the hospitality business?

I stopped in at the cafe while out on a bike ride, the member of staff who approached me first was quite rude, looked me up and down and said 'We're clearing up now'. It was a hot day, so I said, 'a cup of tea would be ok', and that I'd sit outside. Her facial expression was of detecting a bad smell. Anyway, I sat outside, a cup of tea was brought, and I came inside to pay on leaving. Other customers were being seated just at that moment, and ordering drinks, so no, they weren't just clearing up. I'd like you to know that I am not scruffy or dirty or anything like this. I was quite shocked, and didn't feel very welcome at all. Now, a couple of weeks later (more fool me) I am out with my husband now, for a bike ride in the same area. I checked on Google, and the opening hours are very clear. Sunday 9-4. So we stopped off, it was a hot day, and we were both looking forward to a pot of tea and perhaps some sandwiches. Nope. A different member of staff came out to tell us it was 'one minute past three' and they stop serving at three. And they only do Sunday Dinner on a Sunday. I asked if we could just have a drink - we'd sit outside, 'No' she said firmly. That was that. So we left. If closing at 3pm, give the correct information please. It's a real shame, the farm shop is lovely, but the staff in the tea room are surly and unpleasant. Ladies, if you hate the job, get another one. I'll not waste my time going back.

Excellent 3 course meal offer for £20. Friendly service too. Only downside it was rather noisy. Starters included basil and tomato soup, garlic mushrooms with mains haddock and chips, burgers, chicken breast plus, Eton mess, sticky toffee pud, baked cheesecake plus all beautifully presented.

Three of us had the 3 courses for £20 last night, dishes included mushroom, butter chicken starters, burger and fish and chip mains and Eaton Mess, Lemon Cheesecake, ice cream absolutely spot on, very tasty and great service

We visited spuds and berries on Monday. The food is all home made and the variety on the menu is out of this world. Very well thought through. We had such a incredible time. As a local family of 5 we decided to come and try the market menu for lunch and what a wonderful lunch we had. Steaks were cooked perfectly alot better than some from other local restaurants pudding beautiful and at a great price 17.99 for 2 courses. Staff all polite and friendly and couldn't have been more helpful.

First time we have called here and I'm afraid it will be the last. We had been walking locally with our dogs and decided to call in for a much needed coffee (and possibly a snack). We sat outside with our dogs , it was around 2.50pm, when the waitress came out she informed us that we would have to order any food in the next 5 or 6 mins as they stopped serving at 3pm ( which was fair enough as we hadn't checked beforehand). I said that's fine I only want a latte, she then informed us that they don't serve hot drinks on a Sunday, it's Sunday lunch only...so you are telling me that those customers in for their Sunday lunch don't have any hot drinks at all 😕 We were really disappointed as we were going to buy produce in the farm shop as well, so you have lost all that possible business as well as the 4 lattes we were going to purchase ( and snacks if had been allowed ! ) We have never been anywhere that has refused to do a hot drink on a Sunday, whether you are eating or not 😡 I think this establishment needs a little training on the customer service front !!

Stopped here on the way from Hull to Leeds as there was little choice anywhere else. £6.99 for a tuna pannini and a few lettuce leaves was a bit much. Most other places would serve with coleslaw and a few crisps! Pot of tea was nice using real leaves and needed a strainer.The place was a big conservatory, nice views, bright and sunny, Busy but staff were helpful and attentive. The tables were clean but the floor really grubby with food waste and needed a good sweep. Toilets were clean at least!

We have had lunch here with friends on a fairly regular basis and have always enjoyed the experience.Recently, we enjoyed the Christmas Lunch which was ‘average’ and did wonder if they were running short of food as they were extremely busy (as usual). Interesting to note that a group of cyclists arrived (in full wet weather gear) who were afforded the same courtesy as someone who had booked a table as a regular diner. The group elected to sit outside due to their clothing and were served without any problems.Noting that ‘gluten-free’ food was on offer, we decided to book for Sunday lunch between Christmas and New Year for our daughter and partner who is on a gluten and dairy free diet. We acknowledged that this could be fairly restrictive and was very pleasantly surprised how attentive the waitress and manager/owner were to make sure they got it right. Separate dishes were presented specifically to isolate the ‘special’ meal including any sauces, etc. Each serving was described to ensure compatibility with our specific requirement without any hint of being a ‘nuisance’ - and this was during a very busy lunchtime.Suffice to say that we all enjoyed a good lunch which was served hot and in good portion sizes. The starters in particular were presented in a fashion that would grace any four star restaurant table and all at a price which represented good value for money.The attached farm shop is always worth a visit for those extra treats and good wholesome vegetables and cheeses.

I went here with six other people for the Christmas Lunch menu - £19.99 for 3 courses - really good value, there was a choice of starters mains and puds. The service was a little on the slow side to begin with, but the restaurant was full, but as people left the service got quicker. The portions were generous, the food piplng hot and delicious. I would definitely recommend.

I took my daughter and family, including two young children, out for Sunday lunch. I chose Spuds and Berries as it's near where my daughter lives and we've been there before. I enjoyed my roast turkey dinner with trimmings, in fact, we all enjoyed our meal...especially the swede and carrot mash. The other veg was lovely too and plenty of it. I did find the cranberry sauce a bit sour, but that's probably me. I did expect mash potato, but I think the swede mash was instead of. Anyway, we would have been too full with mash potato as well as roast potatoes. Staff attentive, but not over the top. I also don't find chairs comfortable when I'm out for a meal, however, the chairs there are really comfortable. All in all, very pleased...and that's a real compliment coming from me. Oh yes, just one thing, the pot holes on the drive do need filling in.

Party of 18 visited for Christmas Lunch today. Very well organised. Food was lovely. There was one query about a meal that was rectified politely and quickly. Service and attention was great. Very relaxed and easy. I was visiting as a member of staff from a family support charity with our wonderful volunteers - a Christmas team building lunch to say thank you for all they do.

I always come here for either a take away coffee or sit down meal. The weekly Friday night menu is fabulous - who doesn’t love a Curry Night?! The staff are friendly and know exactly what you want. The owner is hands on deck himself which I love and the Chef loves to do new things which are always great. If you’re wanting a lovely country place to eat for lunch or a weekend dinner, then here is the place to be!!

Conveniently located on the road between Hull and York, this could be an ideal chance for a respite. No such luck - arrived very close to closing and was promptly informed of the fact. Menu (once reluctantly given to us by the hostile waitress) was overpriced for such a bucolic venue. And the farm shop which is just adjacent to the coffee shop offered some cute farmsy fair, but again hardly exceptional and expensive at that. Great spot for a wee..... Spend your penny and then promptly head elsewhere.

Second time visiting and once again poor customer service. First time I thought I won’t do a review as I’m not one to do them as I hate people moaning but I definitely think it’s worth doing a review one.

We called in here for lunch following a visit to Howden. The cafe was warm and welcoming. We were soon seated at a table and our order was taken. There is plenty of hot and cold options on offer and tea is served in generous tea pots. We had tuna mayonnaise sandwiches and chips which was very nice. My only suggestion would be is that decaffienated tea should be offered. Many people cannot have drinks with caffeine due to medical conditions.

We booked a table as we were meeting up with family and didn't want to risk not getting in. The service was really good and the food was great. They didn't skimp on anything. The only slight thing was that the pudding looked good but was a little disappointing. I had the white chocolate cheese cake which had a very thick biscuit base and it felt as though I was just eating cream cheese. Please don't let that put you off though. There were other choices that might have been much better. The prices are good.

This is a smallish new property on the south side of the A63 from Selby to Hull. The size belies it's superb food, both taste and high level presentation. Service is excellent and the food is prepared to order. I had a steak and ale pie with mash and a side of cabbage with carrots. Absolutely superb in all respects. My wife had a steak sandwich which was cooked to perfection. The farm shop is packed with high quality commestibles and fresh vegetables. It is as well to book, we hadn't but we were fitted in. Staff were very good and attentive. Overall -- EXCELLENT.

14 of us went here for afternoon tea and were very disappointed. We were told the food was ready shortly after arriving, 45 minutes later the sandwiches finally arrived. Cheese, ham and tuna. Selection was poor but quantity was even poorer.when ordering the afternoon tea with Prosecco there was only one white one left. Some of the party only had the one sandwich so the others could have them. The whole experience was a sham from start to finish and felt let down.

Ive supported shopping and eating locally for 12 ywars since buying a house in East Yorkshire. Thus little gem of Farm Shop and Restaurant has got it all. It knocks the spots off other local combined Farm and Coffee Shops in the area. It is a while since Ive had such a super Sunday lunch, attentive service and what great value. The pork we had was delicious and local, free range and the crackling was tasty and crispy! Shop local and support local and give Spuds and Berries a whirl... whether it be coffee and cake or a three course lunch. You won't be disappointed. They also have dinners night such as Friday night Fish and Chip nights...

Great food and service, always welcoming and friendly in the cafe. Shop not the biggest but all the fresh produce always looks fresh.

Visited for lunch. The food was excellent, well cooked and beautiful presented. However the staff waiting on tables could do with completing a customer service course. They were abrupt, rude and slow. Very off putting. We won’t go there again as a result.

Arrived first thing for breakfast, it was well cooked and good quality ingredients. Service was also good.

Came here for coffee cake and PYO strawberries and it's a great place with helpful polite staff good food great farm shop and the fabulous strawberries

The basic principal appears to be fine and the idea of sharing two platters between four (with extra Chips) should have worked but it didn't really. Perhaps the idea of brunch outside on the hottest day of the year didn't help; particularly with the fish platter which was eaten nervously as it warmed on the table. Of the meats; I didn't get a lot out of the pork pie and the ham was a bit fatty. I think expectations were too high.

We have been here a few times and the food is really good. It's a great place for lunch, the dining area is spacious and has modern yet welcoming décor. The choice of fare is just about right with a good selection of dishes to suit all tastes. The quality has always been excellent. Service could be a little quicker but at the end of the day all dishes appear made to order and therefore a reasonable sacrifice to make.
