Spring Grove in Kingston upon Thames

We came for a family meal and the service was remarkable. The Spring Grove is a hidden gem. Alex, Rhys and Isla ensured we were all looked after. The food was incredible and the service we received was the cherry on top. Highly recommended and we will return.

I've been living in England for 10 years and I absolutely love this pub. The food is amazing, gourmet, everyone who works here is incredibly friendly and I always bring my family and my dog ​​to visit. We always have a great experience. I especially recommend the pommes anna and the rump steak (the tomato is amazing). Do your taste buds a favor and come visit! ❤️

Sunday lunch for my mums birthday did not disappoint, the food was outstanding. We were served by someone called oli who was super helpful and attentive. GET THE PIGS IN DIVET!!!

This is a beautiful, cosy little pub tucked behind Kingston University. I found the food really comforting and the staff were really friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately we had to wait the best part of an hour for our food, 1 of the 2 vegetarian dishes wasn't available, there isn't a salad option and when the food arrived the burger was burnt and the soup like warm and mediocre. Manager did discount bill but this is not the 1st time we've had a disappointing meal.

These guys are really trying with their cask beer offering. I’ve just been to the bar and they made a specific effort to pour off the overnight beer in the pump to give me the best possible experience. That’s so brilliant, and it shows that the fundamental attitude is all about quality of beer and food and everything in the customer experience.

Big thank you to Jack and all the team for a fantastic 21st birthday party for my son. (19.04.25) The hard working team went above and beyond to make the evening go with a bang! Food, attention to detail, friendliness and standard of hospitality was outstanding. Thank you all so much, my son and all our family had a ball. Would highly recommend! May return for my 60th! Easter Sunday visit for a family get together. The service was brilliant… lovely staff. The food was a mixed bag. It looked lovely but was served on cold plates so didn’t stay warm for long… the pork was a winner whilst the beef was tough and chewy… the cauliflower cheese was delicious if a little lacking in sauce. The treacle tart was about half the size of the lemon tart… I wasn’t quick enough to capture it as it was about two bites. I’m putting it down to being later in the day and hence not the best. Unfortunately, we decided to leave and have drinks elsewhere because a very talented band started to play, but were so loud it was near impossible to carry on a conversation and we were sitting near the back.

Probably the best Roast i may of ever had... I'm reluctant to recommend this establishment as I want to keep it all to myself! Rate of ten ?? It's an easy perfection on a fork!!!

Last night 10 of us attended for a birthday meal. The staff at the bar were nice however we had to ask 3 times if we could order food after having to ask for some food menus, finally the orders were taken but then be proceeded to have to wait an hour for the food to arrive, despite the venue not being very busy at all. It felt as though no one was attending to our table until we asked. The plates were only half cleared and we had to clear them ourselves and move them to the table behind for them to be taken. No empty glasses were removed from the table so we resorted to clearing them ourselves and taking empties to the bar to make room at the table. It’s disappointing as it was not busy and there were a lot of staff

Took my mother here for Mother's Day. From the minute we arrived, to the minute we left, everybody made sure that we were attended to, and it was clearly a busy time. The food was excellent (we had the roast for main and apple crumble for dessert) . The service was excellent. The pub itself had a great atmosphere. (My mother commented afterwards how nice the food and staff were, so that should be a sixth star in itself). They also have some very impressively sized dog treats. So if you want to get in somebody's good books. Take a visit to the Spring Grove!

Had a lovely lunch in the garden for Mother’s Day. Mum can be fussy but was more than happy with her fish and cold glass of Rośe. Cask was good, cellar obvs kept well, manager seemed a nice chap, attentive and more than happy to talk to customers. Wheelchair access also good.

1/5. I lived in Surbiton and the surrounding areas for 45 years and moved to Sussex a few years ago. Whilst working in the Surbiton area, I thought I'd drop into the Spring Grove to catch up with a few friendly faces I hadn't seen for a while. I turned up to an empty pub at 6pm - no atmosphere, no locals/regulars that used to be there. I had a quick pint (which was very expensive at over £7 for a Neck Oil) This used to be a community based pub, but it seems the community has gone elsewhere....shame. Sadly, I won't be returning.

I have been going to The Spring Grove since around 1996 and was a regular for sometime as I lived in Kingston and also grew up here in the 70’s . I thought that it would be nice to take my family there for a Birthday Sunday lunch , both my fathers and brothers birthdays. While the pub has undergone many changes and upgrades and the clientele has changed greatly we were looking forward to a nice meal and having read the website up for something rather special .. best roast lunch in Kingston hey !!! The staff are nice but the ones that served us seemed to be on a different planet. Had to ask 3 times for some ketchup for my little girls child lunch , which leads me onto what a waste of £7 that is !! One round of cheap white bread with a bit of cheese and some fries . I mean she is a 6 year old bit still likes nice food but this was poor. Cauliflower cheese !! The portions are a joke for the price !! Seriously guys at least double that and then you might be halfway there !! My partners Yorkshire pudding looked more like a burnt dogs head .. to be fair to the waiter he said “ oh thats a bit burnt “ went got another overdone one which was better BUT why would the kitchen send that out !! For the price of this outing its not on really and in the words of my mother “ Overpriced and disappointing “ Shame as it was such a lovely pub in the past and the food was always reasonable.

I don’t really bother writing reviews as I’m usually not fussed about this sort of thing but I had to document our experience of this place. We live locally and have always thought how much of a nice pub this place was - we usually go to the Antelope for our roast but thought today we would try something different, what a mistake that was! From the moment we arrived it was as if we were a bother to the staff, I understand it is always busy on a Sunday however weren’t greeted with much of a welcome. We even had to ask if it was table service as it wasn’t very clear, when we asked one of the waiters he said ‘yeh’ and then walked off 😂 We waited near enough 50 minutes for our food which never arrived, couples who arrived after us even got served!? Not one staff member came over to explain what was going on, in fact they near enough avoided eye contact with us as I think they knew this was becoming a bit of a joke. In the end we got up to pay for the one drink we had and explained that we’d been waiting too long so we were going to leave, one of the waitresses said that’s fine and that we didn’t have to pay for our drinks but even still- terrible service and will definitely not be returning which is a huge shame.

We love this pub and their roasts - they’re the best in the area - but feeling compelled to write a review after our experience yesterday as the roast fell short of our usual experience. You can’t fault the taste, but the portion size was really disappointing this time, something we’ve not felt before. 2 very small slithers of beef (albeit perfectly cooked!), 2 potatoes, a strip of parsnip and one spoonful each of mashed swede, red cabbage and greens, with the biggest Yorkshire pudding ever making you initially feel like you’re getting good value. For the price, it felt disappointing - hoping it was a one off!

Love the Quiz here! George the MC is great. One of the best Quizzes in Kingston and finishes at a reasonable time unlike some others. Good selection of Ales and always a good bit of knowledge about them from the Team.

I have been drinking in this pub for 25 years and am truly shocked at the behaviour of the current Landlord. He does not seem to be able to handle any criticism at all and immediately goes on the defensive resulting in toys being chucked out of the pram and flies into a rage in public whether it be towards regular patrons or staff. Recently I was shouted at from both sides of the bar, in front of customers, stared at in the hope of intimidating me, refused contacts to escalate the situation to his superiors, then made to feel very uncomfortable with veiled threats about having my contact details and asking “if I will continue to feel comfortable drinking here”. All incredibly unprofessional. I have never had a problem with Jack before, although many, many others have and now drink elsewhere, however I recognise that he is not a people person and does not really want to build relationships with people from the local community, however on this occasion he was being not only passive aggressive, but unprofessional, intimidating and downright rude. Not good for a customer facing Landlord. The pub has faced many issues since the refurb, no heating in the toilets, no toilet roll, broken ovens, no gas available thus no lager, the wrong gas, no fires, no wood, no coal, no kindling, limited music choice (the landlords personal selection apparently) and a high staff churn with staff leaving voluntarily or re-assigned to other venues or sacked. A series of unfortunate events or just bad management? At best a passive aggressive, controlling individual, at worst a bully.

Popped in for Sunday Roast. Very pleasant experience. 3 of us with different roasts. Beef, chicken and pork. All well cooked and delicious gravy! Service and atmosphere also excellent.

We had a small birthday get to together and it was simply perfect! We had ample time to decorate and set up. The food was delicious and delivered by the staff on time with the service for drinks being perfect. The managers, chefs and bar staff are friendly and so understanding!! The pub itself is such a lovely place to go to on regular basis too!

The food is always really lovely here and the service is great too. I have allergies and they cater for them in a way which makes me feel safe. They also have a man excellent range of beers and wines. It really is one of the best pubs in Kingston.

Had a great lunch on New Year’s Eve as a group of ten. We’d eaten Sunday lunch here before (it is brilliant), this time we had the main menu - food was great, the burger was excellent, fish and chips huge and the sticky toffee pudding a real hit. The staff were welcoming, attentive and all round lovely. The pub was busy, with a couple of roaring fires to add to the atmosphere. This is a great pub, we’ll be back again.

Even when busy the staff are fantastic and service is fast and friendly. Was in here on Christmas eve and it was packed but the staff were on it. Always a great pub to visit, brilliantly run.

My partner and I have always loved The Spring Grove for Sunday roasts and eagerly anticipate every visit. As big roast enthusiasts, we’ve tried many, but nothing ever compared to The Spring Grove—until yesterday. Unfortunately, we were heartbroken to notice a decline in quality. The chicken, once beautifully stuffed and wrapped in pancetta, has been replaced with plain chicken. The delicious vegetable purée has been swapped for basic cabbage and peas, and we were given just two potatoes each—disappointing for the price. We know that they change the menus between seasons, but it seems to have been made more basic this winter. The atmosphere also felt off, with a nearby group of children climbing barefoot on furniture, which was distracting and unhygienic. While we understand it’s a family-friendly venue, some gentle intervention from staff to maintain a respectful environment would have made a big difference as these kids were definitely old enough to be wearing shoes and it's not nice to see their feet where people eat! That being said, staff are always stretched on a Sunday so they took a little while to give us the bill. As a nice touch they took our drinks off the final bill which was very kind of them as they are always so nice and hospitable. Another reason I am so sad to have to write this review! We’re sharing this feedback out of love for The Spring Grove, in hopes it can return to its former glory. We’d be so sad to stop coming to what has always been a favourite spot.

I had the best leaving party at The Spring Grove in Kingston, which accommodated all 90 of us comfortably. From the off, Jack and the team were really helpful with planning the event - great communication and all the right information being given so we knew what to expect on the night. The staff were amazing on the night too - so friendly and welcoming to everyone and it really made the night special. We ordered platters of food which catered to all dietary requirements (everyone was saying how delicious the food was) and the venue itself was homely, well designed and perfectly suited the theme of my party. I was even able to put up a few decorations and move the tables to personalise the space. Massive thanks to the team, it was a party I will always remember!

I hosted 60 people in the area at the back and everyone has said how great the venue was. This place really has the wow factor. Came up to London to catch up with an old school friend of mine, to chew the fat and enjoy a few drinks - generally decompress from a busy work week. Fantastic experience; talked through each beer, whilst being looked after with friendly and humorous staff. To be honest I was made to feel like this was my local! Ended up staying far longer than expected and didn’t want to leave. Ps. Recommend a sausage roll, woof!

This was my first visit to the Spring Grove, no doubt, being local, I will call again. The clientele was an eclectic mix: parents with children in tow, pensioners who will be unaffected by the loss of fuel allowance and people who wear woolly hats indoors, vote Lib Dem but tell everyone they voted Green. The decor is smart and varies as you move through the pub. The seating inside is predominantly leather, and the outside offers wooden benches. The garden has some well-appointed sheds/booths at the bottom. I presume that pets are welcome, outside at least. The bar had a good selection on offer, the wine was reasonably priced, I ordered a bottle though drinking by the glass would not have been much more expensive. I didn't have a meal there however I did order the snack option, Sourdough and Caerphilly Cheese the Gorwydd variety. Being a native of said town I thought my partner should try this posher version of the product that made my home town sort of famous. To be fair the barman did say that it wasn't really a big enough portion to share but c'mon lol mice have give their lives for larger portions. I understand that to a Londoner the provinces would appear to be savage, dangerous places where cheesemongers have to battle nationalist hordes, vicious footpads and highwaymen but this particular brand of Caerphilly Cheese is produced in North Somerset! A nice pub, I would suggest a visit but bring your own cheese.

We had a very enjoyable meal at The Spring Grove, choosing typical Pub grub - sausage and mash and ham, egg and chips. The food was well prepared and presented and enjoyed by all. The ham in the ham, egg and chips turned out to be a very substantial ham hock that my friend enjoyed very much. The servers were attentive and friendly and made sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive. We would return again.

Great renovation at the Spring Grove, always a warm, welcoming and clean pub. The blonde land lady was lovely as are the two new editions Casper and Ollie. I’d call it the best pub ever. Yes, you heard me. The best pub ever. The attentive staff amazed me. An ‘Ollie’ looked after us. Very good. Handsome too! Makes a mean lime and soda. Casper brought me my food. He placed it down very gently which I appreciated (I won’t explain why). I highly recommend.

I decided to get out of the bussle of Kingston today being a Saturday it's usually packed. Go to the Spring Grove I thought quite and peaceful. It didn't disappoint. This pub has been a main stay of our family for a long time. It's had its ups and downs the food hasn't been great. But today it did so where praise is due I'll give it. I had a pint and sausages n mash. And as a treat I had apple crumble with custard and pudding wine. Beautiful and tasty 😋 just what the doctor ordered.
