The Black Horse in Kingston upon Thames

We have made 2 attempts to eat in the black horse in the last 6 months. Firstly we visited on a Sunday to be told you had to book for a roast in advance. We visited again on a Saturday, there was one party of 8, another table of two and our table of two. The pub was empty apart from these three tables. We ordered some food but were told it would take 50 minutes, when asked why it would take so long when the pub was empty the staff member said there was a big party in (8 people?!) and that they had too many online orders. The pub is now running a takeaway(Sin City) from the pub which means there is a stream of takeaway drivers coming in and out to deliver burgers and they are therefore unable to meet the expectations of customers who are actually in the pub. A real shame as we have always loved this pub but now won’t be giving it a third attempt. Hopefully it will be taken over by someone who can make it work just as a pub and not as a takeaway place.

Stunning good in this place, general manager Charlie is amazing, always looks after me and my friends. Their range of beers is the best

We had a fantastic night at The Black Horse they had an Abba tribute, was so much fun we also had various dishes and they were all yummy. We sadly found out that Chris & Tony the managers were asked to leave by the brewery shame on you, as they are amazing managers and really turned this place around. They are both so warm, friendly and welcoming. To the brewery YOUR LOSS ! we will not return to this pub without Chris & Tony as they made this pub, so sad but they will be amazing in their next venture as in 6 months they have turned around this pub so much. All I can say is Good luck to the new tenants as you have HUGE shoes to fill !

Great pub, warm atmosphere with excellent staff who are helpful and cheerful. Went for the Thursday quiz, had a lovely time.

This place is on the up & up! Hadn't visited for a while as it was down in the doldrums. Sunday lunch was awesome, get in before 3pm as you may be disappointed 😞. Management super friendly, been here for 7mths & it's defo going in the right direction.

Lovely Sunday roast! Extra roasties and Yorkshire’s, which are always welcomed! Staff were super friendly and attentive. Pub has been through some ups and downs over the years but under the new management and chef, it’s such a brilliant local. Definitely recommend.

Gorgeous, deceptively cosy pub considering the size with amazing service and a cracking Sunday roast. Can't thank Tony and Steve enough for their attentive service and hot, tasty food. Great drinks list too! Looking forward to our next visit.

Very friendly pub, plenty of comfortable seating in various areas. We have visited several times both during the day and in the evening and it is always welcoming and very clean. The floor in the ladies loo survives the close examination it inevitably earns from anyone visiting who lives in Kingston!

Impeccable service with an awesome pint of Guinness from Alice! Has a dartboard so come down and try get a 180! Highly recommended

I rarely do google reviews, yet this pub gets a 5 star across the board from me. Popped in today for the first time to have Sunday Roast. I could comfortably say it was the best pub Sunday roast I’ve had to date. Food was exquisite. I had the Turkey roast. Turkey was lovely and tender, the parsnips were delicious, couldn’t fault it. Unlimited top of roasties too. On top of this, it is very nicely decorated, tartan carpet, fairly lights inside, quirky ornaments and a cosy snug area with a dart board and board games in the corner. I will certainly be back for more Sunday roasts, and would like to come try their quiz night on a Thursday. The service was excellent too, the owners and staff were very friendly and easy going to talk to. Can’t wait to come back soon! Thank you 😄

This is a great pub. Simple as that. Very friendly & welcoming atmosphere. The food is great. Good selection of drinks. Plenty of space and well decorated. It's a bit of a gem. The roasts are outstanding!

We love coming here, it's such a cosy and well looked after pub, the roast (especially the mushroom wellington) is always really good and you can see that a lot of care goes into it. The best I've had in a long time. The pub never gets super loud or full on so I always feel really relaxed.

We came here for the first time for our son’s birthday the owners are extremely friendly and Tony is such a hospitable host. We felt so comfortable and not rushed at all. We had several roasts they were all delicious I will go as far as to say this was the best roast we’ve had in a pub. One of our party had the gammon he said it was delicious. Honestly it’s just so lovely at The Black horse., just felt so homely. Thank you so much we are already booked to return next month. What more could one want delicious food in a family friendly pub. Enjoyed a lovely couple of hours at the Black Horse sharing a festive afternoon tea with the family. Having passed this pub frequently so delighted to have chosen to book for afternoon tea. Tastefully decorated and furnished with choice of bar, high tables or standard tables with 3 - 4 different areas depending on your requirements. Lovely outside area too, for when the weather gets warmer. Polite and efficient service from the bar team and great value afternoon tea (£22.50 including prosecco) served attentively and detailed in person by chef Jamie. Food quality was excellent and menu innovative rather than standard. Plan to revisit to enjoy drinks / Sunday lunch / bar menu in the near future. Metered street parking, or very accessible from Norbiton station (5 minutes) or buses stopping less than 1 minute away.

Jamie the Chef was friendly and extremely accommodating.A member of our party couldn't attend, due to illness. Jamie boxed their portion up for us. The food was of excellent quality and on par with a 4*/5* London Hotel.

The pork was cooked nicely and it tasted amazing 10/10 the Yorkshire puddings were crunchy and juicy.

Visited here today with my wife, what a beautiful pub, with a wonderful atmosphere, great decoration, a wonderfully welcoming owner and excellent food! Steve the owner was wonderful the moment we walked in, he was caring, talked us through the beers and was really great at showing us all the pub had to offer. There are boardgames, a dartboard, an outside area at the front and an outside area with booths at the back. There are also events for everyone, sportsgames shown, musicians, drag, it's an inclusive place with a wonderful vibe. The food was amazing, it tasted fantastic, was plated really damn well, much much better than you'd expect from a pub and the value for money was definitely there. I wish the Black horse all the best in its future endeavours because it deserves to be successful.

An incredibly friendly welcome, fantastic food and a great range of drinks. We loved our visits. The pub is huge with several different seating areas. The landlords are working very hard to make the pub a success. 😁

Had a lovely meal at The Black Horse, I'm vegetarian and I chose the butternut tortellini, it was delicious. Beautifully hot. I'm impressed that the management go out of their way to make sure that vegetarian dishes are not the normal run of the mill, but have a different twist. The rhubarb crumble is amazing. In fact the whole menu is different. Steve is the most accommodating host and we received excellent service from team leader Jo with a friendly smile. Our 4 legged friends are given a special welcome.

Excellent food and great service, we really enjoyed ourselves and were made very welcome by the staff and Manager. We appreciated the seasonal decorations and general welcoming feeling. Will come again soon as made for a great night. Would highly recommend.

This place is brilliant! Joanne is an absolute legend and will make your visit amazing beyond belief, The prices can be a bit excessive but the service makes up for it.

We are a big family and we know it can be a hustle to sort us out, but the staff were amazing. The portions were much bigger than we expected and the food came out really quickly. Met up with a friend here for the first time. We where well looked after by the friendly staff. Food was particularly good and catered for my difficult needs. The pub has a great atmosphere and is well looked after.
