Spring Espresso in York

£10 for a breakfast roll? £4 for a croissant? Am I missing something? I mean the coffee was fine but the abrupt man working there and the overpriced food just means I wouldn't go back if I was in York

I ordered their pastry, and it tasted great. The tartness of the lemon balanced out the sweetness of the blueberries. The coffee was at the perfect temperature—nice and warm.

Just got back to our hotel so glad we decided to have breakfast here , husband had spring breakfast I had poached egg , perfect, food service atmosphere and staff. Dawn

Heyo coffee addicts!! Absolutely amazing coffee here. If you are visiting York do stop and say hi to Shaun(the barista that did our coffee) and the team. Their coffee got into my top 5 best uk coffees that I’ve had. If you’re passing by in York definitely recommend to stop for a coffee and brunch. Peace you all ✌🏻

I’m definitely adding Spring Espresso to my preferred list of places for coffee/ lunch when I visit York. It’s a good size with plenty of seating and different table sizes across 2 areas, one of which is a step up. Choose a table then order at the counter. There’s a very tasty looking menu with quite a lot of egg dishes but it was too early for lunch so I just ordered an Americano and a piece of millionaire shortbread. My order arrived quickly. I asked for oatmilk on the side and was pleased to get a really good amount. The shortbread was delicious; probably the best I’ve eaten anywhere, a very light base, creamy caramel and quality chocolate topping. The cafe was busy but there was plenty of room for more; customers were across the age range and included people working in laptops. Toilet facilities are on the raised level and tucked away. I will definitely be visiting again!

Lovely little independent place coffee was amazing !!!!!

It was a lovely brunch. Food did take a while and portion sizes were a tad small. Food was divine though! The best part of my order was my chai latte! It was beautifully spiced and just the right balance. Nice place and would go again, service could have been quicker!

The worst place ever! We had come here before enjoyed a nice coffee , however when we returned today the coffee and food were disgusting! The coffee was supposed to contain an extra shot however didn’t taste as even having the initial amount in! When asking the staff for an additional shot said would have to charge for a full espresso. Food arrived an hour late by which the coffee was cold- the order was wrong - the pancakes were like bread- was dirty and humid inside! Do not recommend really rubbish service from the staff especially the barista - will not be returning again and don’t recommend

Overpriced and Underwhelming Not great value for money. I ordered the potato hash with chorizo for £13 and was genuinely shocked at the portion size. The bowl was barely bigger than a side plate, and the potatoes—supposedly roasted or fried with rosemary—were disappointingly soft and lacking in flavour. The coffee was fine, but nothing special. As a York resident, I won’t be returning. There are far better options in the city that offer quality food at a fair price.

It was okay, not bad, but definitely not great. Avocado on toast was pretty bland, also felt expensive for the quality. .

I decided on my last trip to York, I'd swing by Spring next time I was in the city and actually get brunch - today was that time. On a reasonably busy Tuesday in February, myself and a friend rocked up to Spring for something light and quick. I opted for the Eggs Benedict and she went for the Soup of the Day. Eggs Benedict comes with two poached eggs on top of an English muffin with ham, hollandaise and garnish. I really hoped to be adding this to my 'you need to go here' list, but unfortunately my choice today doesn't quite get it there. The bacon (swapped instead of ham at my request and no extra cost, a nice touch) was crisp around the edge and tender across the rest. The hollandaise was creamy and had a nice flavour, not too overpowering and definitely added to the dish. However unfortunately the eggs themselves were overcooked, probably only by tens of seconds, but ultimately that resulted in almost fully set yolks which turned the eggs into a far drier affair than they should've been. With the number of dishes they offer explicitly stating poached eggs, this needs to be addressed for me. The flavour was there, but the texture and creaminess in the dish came solely from the hollandaise and that is a shame. My friend had the soup of the day and was really chuffed with her choice. It came with sourdough and butter. It looked and smelt the business. Coffee was pretty good, but came far too soon to have in tandem with our food. I don't often think much on service times, but my friend pointed out that we'd been waiting a while and looking back, it feels like we were. A bustling little brunch spot that maybe I caught on a rough one, I'd love to return and see it improved on what we had today, but it's hard to justify giving it a second chance over the other variety of businesses in York. It was ok for us, but it's hard to say any more than that.

Pleasant staff and delicious yet unpretentious coffee and snacks. My go-to!

Ordered Eggs Benedict, the feedback I would give is that hollandaise sauss is quite rich, and therefore shouldn't be poured like gravy over a sunday lunch. It was quite difficult to eat given the richness. The eggs were quite well made, however I couldn't enjoy the yolk as it immediately got overwhelmed with sauce. On the plus side the hashbrowns were perfect. (Also its my belief that all good breakfast places should have tomato juice, but thats just my humble opinion)

Brilliant breakfast food, filled me up perfectly after a night shift

El café blanco plano en Spring Espresso siempre es agradable y fuerte. Sin embargo, a menudo no hace mucho calor, comenzando solo tibio y terminando frío. Pero buenas cosas para comer. Sería mejor si no hubiera música, especialmente cuando es fuerte, es difícil mantener una conversación. De todos modos, la mayoría de los clientes están chateando o están trabajando en sus computadoras portátiles.

Fui a desayunar aquí, y tengo que decir que fue genial. El té en la vieja tetera china era genial. Mi marido tenía un sándwich de salchichas, y había una buena cantidad de salchichas en él. Me encanta la música que tocaban, un poco de rock antiguo.

A nice place but can get pretty noisy when busy. Coffee, tea, porridge and fried breakfasts both good and staff and service friendly and quick. A bit pricey but so are most places in York

I only leave a review if something is excellent or really bad. This coffee was fantastic, smooth and to the temperature I asked for! Don't go to the awful mainstreams , come here. The ginger cake was also exceptional 👌

This place has potential but is mediocre at best. We got a bad first impression when we walked in and no one greeted us or acknowledged we were there. Then sat down for a while and figured out we have to order at the bar as it’s not table service. Big portions of food but unfortunately very bland/tasteless. Tables were sticky/dirty and the place just lacks atmosphere. Overall a very disappointing experience.

Bonito lugar para desayunar en el centro de la ciudad. Mi esposa y yo paramos a desayunar el lunes por la mañana. Tomé la tostada francesa y mi esposa tomó los huevos florentinos con un té / café y jugo de naranja. El plato de tostadas francesas fue delicioso al igual que el café blanco plano que tomé 👌 Los huevos florentinos podrían haber hecho con más condimento y desafortunadamente las espinacas estaban 'arenosas' presumiblemente no se lavaron adecuadamente. Por lo demás una experiencia muy agradable.

Encontré este gran lugar en la mañana del maratón de Yorkshire y hacía mal tiempo así que muy agradecido de encontrar un asiento aquí. Personal amable y encantador. La comida era fabulosa, las tortitas americanas eran enormes y esponjosas, la salchicha y muffin de huevo y espinacas de huevo y muffins de desayuno de setas eran preciosos. Todos disfrutamos del café también. Había algunos deliciosos cocidos caseros en exhibición también.

One of the best (if not the best) croque monsieur I have ever had. I will never forget the size of the ration either. And the flat white that I had was pretty good, too. Plus comfortable chairs, nice atmosphere…five well deserved stars to this coffee shop. Bravo!

Visita decepcionante con la familia. Bonito café y pastel de frambuesa y limón muy sabroso pero brownie de nueces al horno y el servicio no es amable o acogedor. Mezcla de decoración y muebles, un poco desaliñado en algunos lugares, algunas mesas pegajosas. No es un lugar al que volveríamos, al lado se veía mucho mejor!

Esperamos fuera por una mesa, ya que parecía muy ocupado. Pronto nos sentó una camarera que parecía más interesado en charlar con colegas y amigos que realmente sentarnos! Pedimos nuestra comida y un par de cafés. Uno de los cafés era genial, el otro estaba mal! Finalmente cambiaron esto. Llegaron los 2 Croque Monsieur, después de 2 picaduras quedó claro que no eran comestibles y se desmoronaban. El jamón era la oblea más barata de la propia marca delgada presupuestada cosas procesadas del supermercado. El queso, que había un montón de él era insípido y de nuevo sospechar de la marca propia del supermercado económico. Le dimos nuestra opinión a nuestra camarera que acaba de encogerse de hombros, acabamos de salir! ¡York merece algo mejor!

Lovely little place - we went after our usual wasn’t open. It’s an order at the till and pre pay kind of place but that wasn’t made obvious when we came in as who I can assume was the manager was too busy chatting ! We looked at our menus and went up to order - the poor waitress tried to tell the manager that we were there but he just told her he would get to it and carried on chatting. He was quite rude to her and it was a little uncomfortable We had the spring breakfast and the spring veggie breakfast. The spring breakfast was delicious and very well priced. The spring veggie breakfast was cold.. eggs very under done and under seasoned. Such a shame ! Felt so uncomfortable with the manager that didn’t complain. Coffee was very good - I would advise coming for a coffee and a cake but leave the hot food !

Started queuing up for Rise, then noticed this place right next door. Delicious food (French toast) and coffee. Nicely spaced tables (we got a window seat, great for people watching). Very friendly staff and quick service. A great start to the day and much better than queuing!

I'm sorry but the size of the bacon/egg muffin is completely out of touch for 6 quid... Omelette inside totally tasteless as well

This place has really good coffee and a lovely selection of cakes. The cafe has two units so there was plenty of space when we visited. Service was friendly and quick!

The Yorkshire Rarebit was yummy, maybe a bit too rich. Hot chocolate was outstanding, especially as it had chocolate foam.

This might be the only open one for Sunday early morning breakfast, food is great, the waiter (should be the boss) is so handsome, will come back again, loved everything about this place

Nice coffee and hot chocolate. Beautiful croissant 🥐, but not baked at the cafe. Overcooked poached eggs 🥚. The portion of the spring breakfast needs a smaller portion of bread, good-cooked sausages and bacon. Too much black pepper on top of the plate, impossible to eat, not worth it 13£, need to improve chef skills. The porridge was cooked correctly. The waiting time to way long. P.S. Miserable staff and you are charged a tip before having the experience. The mens urinal is right next to the paper towels (no regard to health)

We came based on good reviews but we're disappointed unfortunately. The flat white coffee milk art was good but lacking flavour in the coffee. We had a couple of cakes; a brownie, which was just ok, and a bakewell tart which was dry and lacking flavour. There didn't seem to be a lot of interest in seeing us come, or go.

I’ve visited spring espresso a few times and have always had a lovely time. The coffee is excellent the atmosphere is very friendly but busy, always a buzz and they seem to have a lot of regular custom. A lovely added touch is the man remembered me from previous visits knew my drink and offered me a loyalty card with stamps from coffees I’d bought before!

Boy oh boy. What a place. Me and my laptop had a lovely time drinking lattes and connecting to the WiFi. What made the experience extra special was when the lovely behatted gentleman behind the counter (the manager perhaps?) made eye contact with me and told me that he really liked my vibe, which made me feel very welcome and added a certain je ne se quoi to my experience. I will come back. Every day

We ordered latte, egg florentine, pancakes, sweets, and bread. The food is delicious, the place is crowded and cramped but over all good and they have bruch also. I recomended it.

The environment is comfortable, the coffee is very good, but the toast is not good enough .

It's a shame I can't leave a review without a rating, but it was ludicrous for a family of four to be turned away 30 minutes before closing. All we wanted was two teas. We ended up going next door (very nice) and when we walked past after 5 o'clock and see customers still sat there.

The food arrived after 30 minutes. The egg of the eggs benedict was not few but hard. The bread was an untoasted slice

We had a full English at 8am when they opened on a Saturday. The barrista was lovely and kind. The breakfast was great quality. The lattes were delicious and a work of art. Highly recommend!

£16.50 for a small breakfast and a pot of tea. Disgraceful. Most of the plate was taken up by a portobello mushroom.

Visited at about 9am on Easter Monday. It was busy so there was a 20 minute wait for food. It was definitely worth the wait though - everything was cooked to perfection! The staff were lovely too. I'll deffo be back.

Pretty good cafe to visit for brunch / a small snack. Our party ordered the pancakes with bacon and the french toast, the french toast was lovely. Coffee is nice here too.

Coffee very good. Large croissant although a bit overbaked. Excellent that there was no music. It's often difficult to have a conversation when there's loud music; not very relaxing.

Nice food, the male staff could be a bit more friendly. Portions of some meal could be a bit bigger. But overall a nice and affordable meal.

Coffee is great, but not a great atmosphere to drink it in. The manager? was swearing at a staff member about some problem with a previous customer. This altercation could be heard by everyone in the half of the cafe near the till. Not what you want to hear when you’ve popped in for a coffee. I won’t be going back. Very unprofessional.

Met a friend here at a cafe I'd never been to or been on my radar. It's large and not cramped with plenty of space for chatting. The convivial atmosphere made a warm and welcoming pace on a winter's day. Pay at counter and service to table worked well. Little choice on sweet stuff for my sweet toothed friend. But my hot chocolate hit the spot. Toilets are available.

Amazing coffee, great breakfast

I'm afraid it's lost the intimacy and attention to detail of former years. The suspended ceiling with LED panels give it the feel of a tired office cafeteria.
 We ordered 2x flat white, 1x americano, 1x decaf cappuccino, and 3x hot chocolate.
 The flat whites tasted ok, but the milk art on one was very slap-dash. Had to go back to ask for chocolate sprinkles for the cappuccino.
 The chocolate was nothing special (powdered, not melted) and the kids would have liked the option of cream and marshmallows.
 Last time I was here I had to send back a stack of pancakes because they were uncooked, and far from fluffy.
 Service then and now was curt and slow. With the pancake episode. It was almost as if it was my fault.
 Expansion is not always a good thing. Definitely not the best in York any more. Roberto and Chocolate & Co are much better.
 I have a few full loyalty cards, but apart from take-outs I don't think I'll be bringing people here again. Sad.

I live in York but haven’t been this side of town for a while. I was out shopping so popped in for coffee and breakfast. Luke warm coffee served quite quickly. Then a long long wait for breakfast. Then a bowl of porridge arrived. I’d ordered a full English. Further delay. Eventually it arrived. Bacon burnt and overcooked poached eggs. No sign of any customer service or care. This place used to stand out as a good place to go. Now it’s fallen into just very very average. There are so many better places to go in York so not sure why you’d bother with this.

I have been a regular visitor for a long time the service has always been excellent so I took a few friends for coffee and cake they were impressed and will now become regular visitors I need gluten free cake and wasn't let down by it and my friends loved the cake I would recommend this coffee shop to anyone

Stopped by for a quick breakfast. Worst pancakes ever. Too thick, uncooked in the middle, we hardly ate any. Too busy to complain at the time.

I had a pleasant experience at Spring. Prompt service. Quiet, clean, and modern environment. Good coffee. Pretty basic breakfast sandwich, but overall really nice. I'd return!

Stumbled upon Spring and ventured in. So glad we did! The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. Our food was brilliant!! The Croc Monsieur was particularly good.

My expectation for the coffee was high unfortunately it wasn’t met. The atmosphere was ok. Staff is not too much friendly. Overall, it wasn’t a good experience at all.

We came here for breakfast two days in a row while staying in york. Coffee was one of the best I’ve ever had! The food was good, I had a full English and pancakes and my girlfriend had the French toast on both days. Service was very friendly and they even remembered us on the second day.

Cooked breakfast was one if the worst I've had, bacon seemed like it'd been boiled, sausages were only browned on one side and both poached eggs were raw which meant I got raw egg whites all over the rest of my food when I cut into them

Visited Spring today for lunch, enjoyed the coffee and Yorkshire Rarebit, but come on,£10.50 for a small slice of sourdough topped by an agreeable mix of cheese sauce with a few salad leaves with balsamic! Afraid there was no value there, should have been two slices of sourdough at least. Don’t want to be negative, but afraid the value was just not there.
