Great food. 2 of the party vegetarian well catered for. Quirky surroundings. Staff fabulous. One girl (sorry we didn’t get her name) just so lovely, always with a smile. Asked us how we were enjoying our holiday and where had we been. When she was on her break she wrote us a list of suggested places to go. Thank you for a lovely experience

This place is a little gem, tucked away at the bottom of St Edward's Street. You walk into what just looks like a small bar, and only when inside can you see that it extends to the rear and upstairs. Received a very friendly welcome and the service throughout was excellent, despite the fact that it's Christmas party season and people were arriving all the time after my early (5pm) booking. The menu is short and eclectic, and the food beautifully cooked. I particularly enjoyed the Vietnamese sweet potato and prawn fritters but frankly, I could have eaten anything from the menu. Personally I would have preferred a longer wine list, but the owners clearly know their market and they specialise in a wide range of beers. The place had a lovely, friendly, buzzing atmosphere throughout and I'm sure I'll be back soon. Highly recommended.

We had popped to Leek for a wander around the various antique shops and were looking for somewhere dog friendly for lunch. We spotted this place at the bottom of the hill and it was great. Charming and individual decor with very friendly and welcoming staff, only tried one of the many beers but that and the food were both lovely. Will pop back the next time we're passing!

We decided to pop I to try the new lunch menu as we were told the chef has changed. The vegan option felt disappointing, unfortunately. The non- vegan sourdough toast/bagel options come with eggs. The vegan option is simply vegetables on toast. Although it tasted fine, there was nothing replacing the egg's protein and fat. Therefore, I was pretty hungry shortly after leaving. When one pays £10 for lunch, it is frustrating to leave hungry. It would help to have some source of protein and fat added to the meal, e.g.: Tofu; hummus; beans; lentils; pesto; nuts. The butternut squash was also lacking in flavour, sadly. It would really help to have some extra herbs and spices added. I would love to come back and try again for lunch when the vegan menu sounds more filling and more flavoursome. I also feel that the lunch options are slightly too expensive for what we were given. My family members tried two non- vegan options and enjoyed the food but also agreed it was a little too dear. I think for £10 many other places would offer a small side of crisps, chips, or salad, which would help soften the blow of an expensive lunch out.

We had lunch here before a meeting in Leek and then returned after the meeting for a beer and cake (IPA plus Orange/marmalade cake turns out to be a great combination). Spout manages to be traditional yet modern, eclectic and quirky without feeling that it's trying too hard to be any of these things. It's a lovely, relaxed place. But, most importntly, the range and quality of food is spot-on for a cafe like this. The cakes - baked by the owner - are particuarly good. The staff were also really friendly and accommodating. I just love finding independent places like this - if only there were more cafes like this, Starbucks and Costa, etc, would be empty and our high streets would be better for it. We will definitely return next time we're in Leek.

Spotted this interesting looking cafe and decided to stop and try it. Friendly welcome which always starts off on the right foot. It's a quirky, rustic place, making great use of the mis-match trend that's popular atm, tiles to the floor, bare plaster, old paint, you get the picture, somehow it's cosy, it works. There's art work, lighting and bits and bobs for sale to with a jewellery design studio up the beautiful original staircase. The menu isn't extensive but does have something for everyone, better to do quality than quantity, the Staffordshire oatcakes were very tasty and filling although I'd have preferred the food presented on a vintage plate. Prices I felt were a little on the high side, especially coffee prices considering the small cups. Enjoyed the visit and the walk up the road enjoying the antique collectable shops.

I called into this place two weeks ago with some of the family. When my younger son is home from London, he loves to spend several hours chilling here. The decor may not be to everyone's taste- I think it's described as 'urban'- but the food is very, very good; a range of food with individual flair, fresh, chunky bread, unusual fillings, hot or cold; crockery is quirky, rarely matching, and for one from the Potteries, a game of "who made that?"Well worth a visit when next in Leek.

We discovered Spout only recently as it's slightly away from the market place and pedestrianised centre area of Leek. However it's definitely worth taking a two-minute stroll down to the bottom end of St Edward Street to seek it out. The rather sombre frontage looks like a standard indie coffee shop but there's far more than that on offer towards the back of the place and upstairs: an old Georgian kitchen with funky exposed layers of old paint and plaster, where regularly changing art displays are hung; a little reading room area with poetry on the walls; a craft beer shop; and a pretty, tranquil garden area for fine weather. The cafe offerings are all good value, and they serve good quality teas and coffees at sub-Costa/Starbucks prices. We're partial to the excellent 'tea and cake for two' deal at just £6 - a big pot of breakfast tea to share with a generous slice of well made fresh cake each. The cake alone would be three quid in some places, so essentially you're getting your cuppas for free! Or there are warm filled oatcakes - a rib-sticking local Staffordshire speciality - for just £3.95. Or soup of the day plus a chunk of artisan bread for £2.95. Opt for a well priced breakfast or platters (Greek or Skandi) at £4.95, and you can fill up without spending too much. All the food is well presented, and the fairly short menu probably helps to keep everything fresh. Further plus points are evening opening on Fridays and Saturdays, friendly/helpful staff, a pleasant unhurried vibe, an engagingly eclectic playlist on the house sound system (it covered indie, rap and classic pop when we were there....), a good choice of craft beers and interesting gins from the Bottle Lab upstairs (although it's not really a bar), and an interesting, characterful old building.Leek is lucky to have Spout, and we feel lucky to have found it. Although we're not Leek locals, we'll be finding an excuse to drop by again soon.

Sadly the cafe is very much closed. The cafe is great. I say this having been there several times before so I can recommend it but rather like one or two independent cafes here in Macclesfield opening hours are fickle. Spout is a favourite Saturday destination for us. We love the arty bohemian feel, and the quirky rooms and decor. Food is great, staff are likewise, and we'll be loyal for many moons to come.

We love this friendly, independent cafe. Gorgeous and unusual cakes, quirky interior, great coffee and best of all they allow our well behaved dog inside. Totally earned our loyalty, best cafe in Leek.

Met up with friends and took advantage of the coffee and cake for two offer (£7). Great coffee and yummy cake. There was a great selection including a vegan option. The tea rooms are very trendy with vintage furniture and industrial fusion decor. Totally my kind of thing. Just like the London boutiques. They even have a bottle shop upstairs where you can grab a couple of beers. Loved the little gifts on sale. Lots of things to add to a usual tea break. #winner

First trip to Spout cafe in Leek with 3 other friends.Great menu, a little bit different from the norm. Really enjoyed my cheese platter with bread, salad and chutney. The ginger cake was also delicious. This cafe is also licensed so you can enjoy a wine or beer with your food.I shall definitely return when I'm back in leek!

Interesting quirky little cafe we found by chance. Good coffee and service. Superb little rooms to chill, have a bottle shop on the second floor for artisan beers and a few gins. Bought a great bottle of poppy gin.

My favorite place for lunch or coffee, dog friendly, lovely staff and great ambience, not to mention local sourced food freshly prepared by talented staff.

What a lovely lunch we had at Spout. A beautiful old building with mis-matching funniture, cubby-holes and bare walls, stools from the 60s and folding tables from another era........The menu was concise and offered a range of tasty food. The hamenbert wrap (ham & camenbert) was dee-lish! Served on a little tin plate. A mug of homemade soup and a "just created" chilled coffee & caramel drink. Traditional bacon butties and oatcakes and a superb sandwich of the day made on locally made bread. We will definitely be going back.Highly recommended

Just been to Spout for breakfast whilst visiting Leek and we are so pleased we did. I ordered the squished avocado on toast and my Husband had poached egg on toast with bacon. I asked for bacon to be added to my avocado and the staff were only too pleased to oblige. The tea and coffee we had with our meal was also excellent. We couldn't leave the premises without trying some cake which were on display on the counter. It was very hard to choose which one to eat but we opted for the rather spectacular looking Strawberry and Elderflower cake. We weren't disappointed, it was absolutely delicious. After eating we then went upstairs to visit the Bottle Lab and purchased some beers and cider. With so much choice on offer we were there a while! All in all we really enjoyed our visit and would highly recommend to anyone.

Popped in for evening beer. Community run traditional pub. Worth knowing it is cash free / card only.

Coffee good and young lady serving very friendly and polite. Staff in the back preparing food with no gloves and getting orders missed or wrong but blaming others for their shortcomings

My friend had booked myself and another friend in for dinner here for our birthdays. We asked for bread and olives for the table as a starter, this was served with just 2 pieces of bread and there were 3 of us so we asked for another and the waitress said she had asked already and we would need to pay for an extra bit of bread, they also didn’t have the oil to go with the bread. Two of us ordered steak for main, I’d asked for no mushrooms, when they were served the sauces were on the wrong plates and mine had mushrooms, the waitress took it back then came back and said that my friend and I had been given the wrong ones so to swap and then it would be right. The steaks were so insanely salty, it made my friend and I feel sick. The chips were meant to be triple cooked but it didn’t taste like it. My friend had a blue cheese sauce and said it was quite bland. Our table was booked for 7pm and we were informed a few days before that quiz night starts at 8pm. This was fine and it was good to be informed beforehand but we hadn’t considered how loud it would be, the music during the meal was loud and the microphone was the quiz was also super loud so we couldn’t hear each other speak. My friend asked for something to be taken off the bill due to the poor steaks, the lady who sorted this out was great and very apologetic, she was very helpful in sorting it out, the waitress we had was also lovely. It seemed to be an issue with the chef. We hardly ate our meals and got McDonalds on the way home because we were so hungry. I would go back there sadly.

They were very busy when we were there so service was lacking, a lot of tables were not cleared, the scones were dry and the coffee was not very good. A beautiful old tea house though.
