We stayed here last summer and it was lovely. However, having booked again for us and disabled family, our bookings were abruptly cancelled because they’ve decided to chase bigger money event clients. (Or some such barely legible nonsense) Really unreliable, greedy and unprofessional. Honestly, they don’t deserve the 5* review I left last time. Good luck chasing the big money.

Lovely location for this small hotel. There are 5 or 6 shepherd's huts for those looking for an almost outdoors experience or other rooms inside the hotel itself. The staff were all super friendly and breakfast had a great choice on offer. Highly recommend this stay and would visit again if in the area.

My wife and I were lucky enough to stay at Spot in the Woods recently for our anniversary weekend, mainly because it was dog friendly in the rooms and restaurant. The service was second to none, and neither my wife or I could fault it. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff, and the breakfast and dinner in the restaurant was exceptional. A big thank you to ALL the staff (Dan, Tyrone and Fiona - apologies I did not catch all their names, but all were equal in the fantastic service) at the hotel for an amazing weekend away.

So much potential, but too busy chasing revenue to care about guests. We stayed in a shepherds hut. We had booked for 2 adults, 2 dogs and an infant. We paid extra for the dogs and a cot. However there is not actually enough floor space for a cot, let alone a cot and dog beds. The heater didn't work, one of the storage drawers didn't open, the bathroom door didn't shut and in 4 nights stay the room got cleaned once - meaning the teabags, milk etc weren't replaced either. Most offensive tho was our son became seriously unwell in the damp hut in the early hours of Saturday morning. An ambulance was sent. When I went to reception to inform them I found there is no one on duty so I had to wait in the car park myself to direct the paramedics. On checkout we were charged another fee for cleaning the duvet as my son had been sick on it.

My mother and I stayed here for 5 days (end of November). From the moment we arrived the staff were so helpful and friendly. We stayed in one of the shepherds huts/cabins. It was really lovely, effective heater, great shower, comfy bed plus a dog bed and bowl and treats supplied for our labradoodle Dexter. They are very very dog friendly and Dexter was allowed to come with us for breakfast and out for drinks in the evening. The location of Spot in the Woods is fantastic with brilliant walks, pubs, restaurants and shops nearby. The food was delicious and the vegan and vegetarian options are fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble and the entire stay was perfect. It was my mothers birthday on the Tuesday and she got a complimentary mimosa with breakfast. All the little touches throughout the stay made it an all round wonderful getaway.

Very disappointed with my recent stay, started by only being told on arrival that the restaurant wasn't open for dinner for my entire stay-which was even more disappointing as the food is very good! As a solo traveller, without a car, this meant having to walk out in the dark at night to get dinner at a local pub and walk to the local town to bring cold food back to the hotel. I was also put in a room that was directly next to a generator, which kept me awake the first night. Whilst I was moved the next morning, the staff admitted they'd had several complaints about that room previously. The best bit was there were no staff or night porters in the hotel after 9pm, that meant on the first night, I was only one of two sets of guests (which made for the fact that I was put in a room that clearly had issues a bit bizarre). The other couple that was there even expressed their concern at this. We were given mobile phone numbers of the manager and told the front door would be left open, much to our dismay. Finally, on checkout, I flagged they were substantially undercharging me but the staff member didn't know how to remedy it so asked if the supervisor could ring me later after I left, I agreed but when they did, her tone was accusatory, as if I tried to avoid paying. I pointed out the issue that I was being drastically undercharged and the issue was their side. I then raised all the issues I had with my stay only to receive a very weak apology. I felt this was not good enough and asked for the manager to call me, I was assured it would be within a few days. It has been over two weeks and nobody had followed up with me. A real Faulty Towers experience that made for an all-round unhappy stay. This place could be so much better but it's clearly lacking good management and attention to detail.

A lovely stay at Spot in the Woods in November. We were greeted on arrival and check in experience was really easy with good communication via email prior to arrival prompting you to provide information before arrival to make check in nice and easy. The gentleman (Tay?) that checked us in, provided dinner recommendations in the local area and served us for breakfast has the best customer service skills - he’s a real asset to the hotel, making guests feel welcomed and ensuring that they want for nothing during their stay. The location is fantastic, the local pub, The Gamekeeper, was a short walk and great atmosphere and food. Spot in the Woods is also a short drive to Lyndhurst and there’s lots of places to walk locally or within a short drive. The rooms are cosy, clean and have great toiletries to use. The bed was comfy and warm. It’s a shame the weather went downhill on arrival as we had a gorgeous roof terrace too. Breakfast options were fantastic and it was fresh and delicious. I’d really recommend this to anyone wanting a cute break in the New Forest and we will certainly be returning in the future. Thank you Spot in the Woods!

Of particular mention Tyrone whose service is exemplary and Ellie who definitely went above and beyond to sort the issue. In fact the only shame is that Richard who we understand is the General Manager did not either meet with us or call us to discuss the issue although we had been told this would happen. Hugely disappointing, given our really enjoyable visits to the hotel in the past. Liked · The staff were all very kind and helpful. They all went out of their way to make our visit as pleasant as possible. The restaurant staff were always looking out for us and offering advice on meals. The staff at the reception desk were knowledgeable about the surrounding area and were always on hand to help and advise the best places to visit. We loved the restaurant as the food was really great, well prepared, beautifully served and great value for money. Sadly because of understaffing, we were not able to eat in the restaurant as regularly as we would have liked. Disliked · We have stayed at the Spot in The Woods on numerous occasions in the past (and the TerraVina, which was the hotel's former name). It has always been our "go-to" place for short breaks and special occasions, so we were very disappointed by the general wear and tear that was very noticeable in our room, (the broken shower door) fraying blinds, paint peeling in the bathroom, worn stair carpets and general shabbiness of the place, given the long periods of down time during Covid when an odd-job person could have so easily rectified these issues. We pointed out the issues with the shower to Richard Slade the GM on our arrival and he agreed to move us. We then didn't see him until we left at the end of the week, so we remained in a sub-standard room. It's great to have a dog-friendly hotel, but I would have struggled to have stayed in a room recently vacated by a dog, as I am quite sensitive to animal hair and dander. It would have been nice to have known that they reserve some rooms that have not had dogs as guests.

We are just back from this wonderful spot in the woods. At first there was a little confusion with our booking but Richard provided a very quick nice solution and arranged the 1st night of our 3 night break at their sister hotel which was lovely to experience. On our return to spot in the woods our fur baby Colin was spoilt with a bed, treats, bowls and had doggy menu service available to him. Every member of staff was friendly and attentive to his and our needs. The room was large, clean and full of little extras including a gin and tonic and home made shortbread. Our room also had a massive quiet sunny terrace. Throughout the hotel there is a lot of attention to detail and it offers a relaxed homely feel. The location is just perfect to visit attractions around the new forest and provides a welcome base to return to with a worn out dog and his humans. Food is top quality, service is without a doubt the best we have had and the staff could not do more to make people with dogs feel welcome. Thankyou all for a enjoyable few days . Lovely location and really friendly staff, but the food wasn't as good as I remember it being. Came here since its dog friendly and the terrace is lovely to sit on with this warm weather. We came for breakfast, coffee was alright and there was nothing wrong with the food, but compared to other places over the forest it seemed a bit average. Still worth a visit if you are in the area, especially if you have a dog, but I wouldn't specifically go out of my way to come here.

We stayed in a room but the shepherd huts look really nice. We were lucky and had warm weather and made good use of the veranda for our meals. All the staff were very welcoming and eager to please. We didn’t take our dogs but the hotel is genuinely dog friendly. A large area at the side for dogs to have a run. We intend to return with our dogs. All of the guests who had dogs were very responsible and this shouldn’t put off non dog owning visitors. We are already looking forward to a return visit. Never thought I will write this kind of review about Spot in the Woods but feel I have to. We called in the morning for table for breakfast. Lady over the phone asked to call back in 2 mins. Really? Ok, we swallowed it as remember good times and may be it was trainee who picked up the phone and didn’t have access to booking system. We called back and got table confirmed but when we arrived they said that they do not have our reservation and it will take 30-40 mins BEFORE they start taking the order! Really? Place was not even full. We were with little one and could not wait that long (not even mentioning that we were hungry and were looking forward to our breakfast). Alas, we had to leave and don’t think we’ll be back again. People who are taking reservations: please do check with restaurant if they can really accommodate non-residents for breakfast / brunch / dinner on the day. Two stars for experience in the past really.

We really enjoyed our stay, the room was really nice, we loved the bath and the complimentary gin in the room was a nice touch. The restaurant decor inc. the terrace was nice. The staff were really friendly and helpful and they were very dog friendly which was nice. The only drawback for us and the reason for the drop of the two stars was the quality of the food. Breakfast had a couple of options to choose from, however the execution could have been so much better. Example: I had the pancakes on second day, I was served 1 pancake for breakfast and the pancake itself was burnt! Not even a little burnt the bottom was black. We also had dinner on the first evening where we had pizzas, one of which was destroyed when taking it out of the oven, meaning the timings of the meal were off and then when the pizza finally arrived it was clearly rushed as it wasn't quite done.

Just returned from a great stay at Spot In The Woods, the staff really make the place especially Richard whom I believe to be the manager (if he's not then he should be next on the list) and Rose in Housekeeping. They really went the extra mile especially as it was our first time travelling with a newborn. Food was excellent and the rooms are well decorated. We will definitely be returning. One thing I'd like to see would be maps provided for walks, we managed to find a great one that was about 6 miles but only by following a man with a dog. I imagine a lot of people travel to the New Forest to walk so some maps would be helpful. All in all a great stay

Nice secluded hotel - stayed in one of the shepherds huts. Good amenities and the complimentary gin and tonic was a nice touch. If going as a family I wouldn’t recommend the shepherds huts for children, they are very cosy and if it wasn’t for the weather being so sunny they wouldn’t have had anywhere to run around. There is a lovely green area for the kids to run around in which the bar/restaurant overlooks. We had breakfast in the restaurant in the morning, unfortunately due to only having 1 chef on it took a while for us to get served however when the food came it more than made up for the wait. Overall this is a nice location and the staff are very attentive, this is definitely more suited to couples but we just about managed as a family of 4. Would definitely return here.

Super dog friendly (we had two with us) with brilliant, attentive staff - nothing was too much trouble. Minor criticism that our room was dark (room 2, Bolderwood) and the mirror above the sink was very low down, very difficult for shaving! The enclosed patio was very useful although a bit small. Breakfasts were excellent although a fish option eg smoked haddock or kippers, would have been nice. The menu choices for an evening meal were somewhat limited. The location of Spot in the Woods is brilliant, and i should imagine great for walking. We met friends for dinner and had really looked forward to the evening. Maybe I looked forward to it too much and therefore was always going to be disappointed. For starters two of us had beetroot humus, which was very nice, one had the halloumi cheese (you have got to like pesto, I really don't) and the other person pigs in blankets which he said he enjoyed. We ordered a bottle of white wine, one juice, and one ginger ale and looked forward to our mains. I had the halloumi in a bun, which sadly came smothered in pesto so it was a struggle for me to eat it. The other halloumi bun person I noticed left a fair bit too. The other two ordered the burger which looked really good, but was not. It was a little dry and way too much meat, maybe if it was good they might have eaten it. I can only say that one person said he thought the burger not brilliant as it was dry. The chips were great though, a highlight. We then ordered 3 coffees and four puddings, two sundaes and two sticky toffee. The two sundae eaters both left most of them, I was told by one they were mostly cream and cake, but the two sticky toffee and ice creams were eaten. So all in all a mixed bag, I suspect the pizzas would be good as you can't go wrong with them. The staff were very friendly and the right side of attentive. The total bill came £170, not a small amount and a high price for a generally disappointing meal. Great company in a good space for catching up so we had a nice evening all in all.

Was taken here for brunch, quiet little place in the woods, looks like it has some lovely little rooms to stay, food wise, it was nice, however mac and cheese was way to overpowering to the point it was sickly, too much vintage cheddar and I like a good mac n cheese, also had a burger, only fault was slightly dry, service was good but little of it, and it wasn't overly busy, with a little nudge in the right direction this place could be 4 to 5 stars. Just needs a touch more attention but overall a good place.

We arrived Saturday afternoon and was blown away by how amazing and beautiful the Shepherd Hut was. We booked for my daughters 13th Birthday and I’m so glad we did. On opening the stable door, we were greeted with a lovely warm flow of heat where they had switched on for our arrival. The radio was playing classical FM and the whole ambience was divine. The hut was classy and had much more than I expected. The toiletries were to die for and I had to treat myself on departure today. Whoever has put the 100 Acres products together need to get them into a top spa. We enjoyed the evening in the hut, playing games and eating cheese and biscuits with a nice bottle of wine. They provided plates and cutlery to my surprise. They also provided a clean scouter, fairy liquid and a tea towel so we didn’t have to live around dirty plates. The beds were really comfortable and dressed in fine white linen with lovely scatter cushions and it generally had all the mod cons. I particularly loved that they left us a little spot in the woods printed local newspaper, some local fudge and a pink gin on the bed-stand. The tonic was I the fridge, there was plenty of milk, quality tea and quality coffee. I paid £186 for the night and it included breakfast which again was amazing. The bar/restaurant is so classy again. All I think the place needs is a proper room where couples can sit in the bar and enjoy a drink in an ambient atmosphere. I would give SITW 10/10 and I’ll def come back. The girls loved it so much, they want to come back for a week. One final comment is that the staff were lovely, they enjoyed the stupidity of my boyfriends silly mouth and comments because he’s a plonker that’s makes the world laugh (except me). 😂 Upon check out, I loved hearing how the venue used to belong to Gerard Bassett who ran my other favourite hotel brand - Hotel du Vin. He may well be dead now but his spirit has definitely been left behind because it oozes class and I really do hope it finds its way to the top of everyone’s list because it really was everything and more for us 4. ♥️

Amazing stay in one of the shepherds huts. Great stay for our little family of four. I personally would of enjoyed a nice bar,pub feel in the evening in the hotel itself. Would I stay again? Yes.

Visited spot in the woods for our 10 year anniversary and couldn't have picked a better place. The breakfast and dinner was delicious with plenty of choice and even a great brunch menu. Also had coffee with a slice of caramel and apple pie one afternoon which was amazing. The room we had was very spacious and a very relaxing place to be, especially the large shower and bath that gave the room a luxurious feel. We also had a separate area with seating, tea and coffee facilities, dressing table, wardrobe and safe. The restaurant/bar is very welcoming with a quirky touch, but most importantly the staff create a very comfortable atmosphere with exceptional service. There is also outside seating either on the decking area or benches in the garden. We were constantly asking about recommendations for places to eat for our anniversary and the manager gave us every detail of the local restaurants. Very nice gentleman indeed. I highly recommend a stay here and will certainly be returning ourselves when we want somewhere to stay near the new forest.

Not a vast menu available for afternoon tea. Very little cakes but the scones were good. Lunch was not available as the kitchen closed at 2.45pm on a Saturday. Not an afternoon tea place.

We stayed for one night on 29th December to celebrate our anniversary. 20 years to the day we had our wedding reception here when it was under different ownership.,so it was special for us. We had a fabulous stay. The luxury room..Deerleap was amazing. A freestanding bath, a seating area, a patio area which would be wonderful in summer, even some fudge for us. The meal we had was beautifully cooked and the service was spot on. Breakfast was just as good. Again the same lovely waitress, and buttermilk pancakes with bacon and maple syrup.! Whats not to like. I would say that the surroundings and the touches of luxury make it worth every penny. We are thinking of trying one of the shepherds huts in the summer. Thank you everyone for a memorable anniversary.

We had a lovely weekend away at this beautiful hotel with our extended family. Fiona could not do enough for us and offered us a different room when the cabin was a little tight for us with two small children. The children loved it so much so we stayed in the cabin and it was so cute, with clever storage and a real unique rustic experience. I imagine the best experience in one of the cabins would be in the summer as there was a semi private seating area to enjoy a tipple on a summers evening. There was a large shower and everything is done to a high finish. There was also some lovely gifts left for us on arrival. My Grandad's room in the hotel was lovely with a big bathroom including a stand alone bath which he loved. On our second night my Grandad had trouble with the TV and a member of staff went up to his room immediately to sort it out. The food in the restaurant was of high quality and very yummy. We will definitely be returning when we next come to the New Forest, would recommend for couples and families. Thank you Spot in the Woods!

We had such a lovely stay as a family of four (2 under 2!) the shepherds hut was so nicely decorated with everything feeling clean and fresh. The staff were lovely, especially when having our breakfast - super friendly! Will definitely be coming back, this is me saying this after staying one night only for my birthday in torrential rain also! :)

We're still stopping here as I post this. Absolutely beautiful hotel and properly dog friendly. Dog bed, bowl, towel and treats provided, fabulous room and bathroom with a roll top bath. They aren't providing evening meals at the moment, but the breakfasts are good and the café, veranda and garden are lovely and the location is perfect for exploring the New Forest. Staff are polite, helpful and friendly. Can't fault.

This hotel & venue just St gets better and better. Lots of parking outside, bar area and dining, space for dancing to live music and outside a large marquee for bigger events. Located on the clifftop with magnificent sea views.

10/10 Superb service, from waiters that were well presented, polite and helpful from beginning to end. Hot delicious food delivered to our table with a smile. Menu was excellent and nothing was too much trouble for the chef to adapt. Restaurant was very clean and inviting, we sat in in a side room which was perfect for us to talk and enjoy time with loved ones. Music just right, warmth of room perfect - everything was fantastic! This was definitely a case of undersold and over delivered! Thank you team Gurkha ✨✨
