Had a wonderful and very tasty turkey roast, potatoes were gorgeous. A very generous portion of everything. Would highly recommend.

We visited for Sunday Lunch off the back off several recommendations when visiting Dartmouth the past weekend. We were not disappointed. The pub itself has a lovely country feel and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The carvery was 10/10 we honestly couldn't knock any of the components on offer. The meat was possibly the nicest I have had on a carvery - with a selection of beef, pork and turkey. Included was a lovely selection of veg, the baby onions being my favourite bar the really tasty roast potatoes. If I could give one criticism it would be down to some confusion over going up to get the food. We were told to go up when ready, so as our youngest opted for a main menu option we wanted to try and gauge the time to match when this might come out. As we went to get up, the waitress told us to wait until she prompted us as a queue was forming. Unfortunately, when she advised us we could, his meal had already come out so we were a little disappointed by the confusion here. All in all I wouldn't bring this down to a 4 star review because of this. Generally we were extremely happy with our meal and overall experience and very much look forward to visiting again when we are down in Dartmouth.

I will keep this short. We live locally and for some reason have never been to this pub for lunch! We decided to go there for the Sunday carvery. Quick note book in advance. It was above excellent. The staff were attentive and very polite. The carvery was superb. The friendly chap behind the counter let you have a selection of their beautifully cooked local meats including crackling. The veg selection was delicious, hot and fresh. Could not fault it and probably the best roast for the money in the area! 10/10 all the way. We will be going back again.

We had a brilliant Sunday lunch here which was a fuss free carvery. So much food and suited hungry teenage kids!! It was really good value and super tasty. We pre-booked which was a good idea as it was very busy.

Great pub with superb food. We both had the cod which was delicious and HUGE beautifully cooked with tasty chips, minted mushy peas and tartare sauce. To follow my wife had the Eton Mess which she loved and I had the crumble which was excellent and had the best crumble topping I’ve ever had. Service was friendly and efficient. We set out on foot on Christmas Day, daring to take on the best of British winter weather (haha) and rural country roads, built for cars and not pedestrians, in search of Christmas Cheer at the area's local, The Sportsman's Arms. We were met with a warm and friendly welcome and after a leisurely 3hour visit, we experienced hospitality at it's finest when the owner very kindly and generously saved us from the return walk and drove us back to our holiday cottage! Absolute Legends!

Wow! We’ve eaten at the Sportsman’s dozens of times over the years, today was in a whole new league. Partly the new items on the menu (like the lovely venison steak served pink, sliced, in a rich sauce with crispy topped Dauphinois), or Mushroom Bourguignon Cobbler), but mainly the sheer quality of ingredients, cookery and presentation. Blooming lovely! Go Sportsman’s!

Although we hadn't booked and had a dog with us they obligingly found us a table. Had drinks and carvery. Not usual I can go out and eat beef and be able to eat it but theirs was so tender. Best beef I've ever had.

Looked like a lovely little pub so thought we would stop by for a late lunch. My partner had a roast dinner (served through the week) and I had the fish and chips and WOW! food and service was both exceptional the best pub food we have had in a long time if not ever I’d say amazing quality, good portions and very good value and we intend on making regular visits to this great establishment. We look forward to our next visit.

Came for a Sunday carvery. Two of us had beef and one person turkey. Friend was well chuffed as there was GF Yorkshire puddings! She was over the moon! We were all sooooofull of delicious roast dinners and about 6 different vegetables that we had no room for dessert!

I came here with my partner for Sunday lunch. Firstly we arrived an hour before we booked with the intention to either be able to sit at our table early and eat or sit in the bar area. I asked the lady if our table was ready which it was nowhere near. We sat at the bar and by the time we had finished our drink our table was ready. Drinks were very well priced considering we have just paid £17 for the same order in Dartmouth compared to the £8 round here. We both had the carvery which was just so delicious and fresh. We could not believe how busy it was they was constantly turning people away. Considering how busy it was the staff were still friendly. If we was to visit this area again we would definitely return.

Food delicious, staff friendly, good play area for kids. The pub is a wee bit dated is all which is a shame - probably getting rid of the carpets and a repaint would do the trick!

I have visited the Sportsmans Arms on many occasions over many years and the consistency has been outstanding! The staff are always helpful, knowledgeable and efficient. Above all however, is the food. Whether you choose the carvery (Sundays) or a roast off the menu or anything else for that matter, it will be excellent!

Overall a nice experience, decent burger, pizza, chips and chicken meals, and a good selection of ales in a traditional Devon pub with good outside areas for a sunny day, not that we’ve had that many this year mind Only criticism a little too much salt in what is an ample size beef curry, and I think after 15 years of visiting Devon it’s time to retire the restaurant carpeting, like something out of an old people’s home! We are here on holiday, and had seen this restaurant recommended on a Dartmouth forum , was a little apprehensive as read the recent reviews, well what can we say other than outstanding! The staff were so lovely, professional and friendly. The food was actually delicious and we heard so many people saying that the food was amazing, they welcome children and dogs. They serve a roast daily alongside the daily menu ,we’ve been twice so far , the roast was one of the best we have had , we also tried the beef madras 10/10 and the local ham , brave of eggs again incredible. So don’t let the negativity put you off , it clearly states all food is cooked to order no microwave meals here ! So yes a little wait is worth it to enjoy the ambience of a traditional inn . Highly recommended the staff work really hard and we’re very subservient. Fantastic play area for the little ones too !

The food was brilliant if you want good country pub then this is the place to visit. However the service is a 1* I’m afraid drinks sat at the bar for ages and waitresses stood around. Had to ask constantly for the bill before eventually getting it.

Booked whilst on holiday. Absolutely CRACKING Sunday Carvery. Simply the best we have ever had. Nice playground for this kids. Dogs welcome in the Marquee part of the restaurant. Would highly recommend. Would definitely book again if we come back that way.

So so perfect, wonderful staff, wonderful food. Possibly the greatest pub on the planet. The fish and chips are better than any chippy, the ambience is second to none, the beer is wonderfully pulled, the wine is worthy of a Michelin star.
