Sportman Pub Elm Wisbech Cambs in Fenland

Booked a table with friends. Paid deposit for 10 people, so £100 deposit. Sadly there were only 7 people due to illness. The Sportsman kept £30 of the deposit! At no point was I told this was their "policy" and no where on the website (on my phone), can I see a policy. I spoke to them on three occasions.; Once to discuss the deposit, staff member was going to speak to manager and ring me back. She never did. 2. A call from them to ask for deposit which i paid and check timings. 3. Another call the next day from them to check timings again. No mention of the "policy" Poor show. Won't be going here again. Really spoilt the evening. Very unimpressed. 😒

Poor management We went for a family meal to celebrate a birthday. Whilst paying for the bill, one of the members knocked their head on the low ceiling leaving them sweating, pale and very distressed. The manager was not to be seen on sight however albeit this, the two young bar staff were attentive and helpful. When the manager arrived, the lady responded saying it the low ceiling meets the health and safety requirements and there was nothing she could do about it despite claiming that the “🦆” sign indicated to mind your head whilst one of the members were sat with ice and a towel wrapped around their head in a lot of pain. Very disappointed with the way the manager dealt with the scenario and the fact that the young girls had to call a member of management to the scene suggested that no member was health or safety trained. Thankfully, he is ok however if the scenario was a lot worse we wouldn’t know what to expect has of he needed extra help.

great atmosphere and good staff, also such flavour in the food was mouth watering. definitely coming back, felt very taken care of at this establishment.

Eight of us attended the Sportsman today for lunch. There was a choice of pork, beef and chicken. It was served with 5 veg and everything was very well cooked and full of flavour. The service was also excellent.

Called in for a spot of lunch whilst in Elm. Staff were very friendly and pub was spotless and clean! Ordered drinks at the bar then the waitress came to the table to take the food order. Food ordered and arrived promptly, was piping hot and tasty. Would definitely recommend!

Well worth a visit for a midday senior citizen meal,good food and excellent service by bar lady/waitress.

We had a terrible meal today in the sportsman in elm the meal was no where near worth the money it wasnt cooked as we requested the staff were lovely but the meal let them down I brought the meat home for my dog and she even turned ger nose up never go there again.

Fue hace mucho tiempo dejé una crítica positiva de este pub y pensamos que sobre tiempo que renovaron. Mi familia y yo hemos intentado ir una vez al mes para este pub y tengo que decir que Keith y su equipo son unos anfitriones siempre buena. Fuimos el Sábado y la izquierda que necesitan realizarse patatas fritas, la comida era excelente y lo suficiente para alimentar a los cinco mil! Aún así quizás el negativo sería la televisión en la esquina tocando música un poco demasiado ruidoso y que el interior necesita una buena mano de pintura y renovación, pero que dijo la cerveza es buena y la comida, así que prueba y apoyo a las empresas locales a otros esperamos hacer, todo bien hecho,

El propietario de este pub es un personaje. Su aparente gruffness es en realidad una máscara por simpatía, pero se pueden tomar por sorpresa. Fui con mi familia, que son locales, y conocerlo bien, así que había un poco de broma.

Have eaten here many times with a variety of different friends. Food always very good, sensibly priced, and with a good choice. Hope they still do a pensioner's menu on Monday-Thursday! Easy parking always helps, of course!

Having just purchased a house in the area , yesterday evening I visited with my disabled wife , daughter and grandaughter ,we were very warmly welcomed and treated as locals although it was our first visit (definately not the last) the food was delicious and perfectly cooked , and service was excelent , we really enjoyed our evening and look forward to visiting again .

It is one of the best meals I have had in a long time the food is great and I love this pub for his food and drink and it does not cost a a lot we eat there most weeks

Es un pub encantador y realmente sólo para adultos, ya que no tiene nada para los niños que hacer. Es muy acogedor y agradable atmósfera. La comida es para morirse, todos preparados en los locales. El personal es excelente y nada es demasiado problema. Vale la pena una visita.

Nice food with good variety. Lunchtime deals are worth a visit. Atmosphere ok but restaurant a little on top of the bar

Beer not bad. Food brilliant as a senior citizen could not cook cheaper at home. Seniors meals five days a week, most pubs are only one day a week. Worth a look.

Visit this pub when visiting our son who stays locally, meals are superb, have yet to have bad experience. The full menu has an excellent choice and the waiting staff are totally observant with your requirements. Food is also value for money and look out for special nights for value choices.

This is our 'local' and we often pop in for a drink and sometimes a meal. Wednesdays are steak nights '2 for £15' which is really good value and the steaks are very good. Staff and management are very friendly and helpful.

In the modern age of 'gastro-pubs; it is easy to forget the better days of low ceilinged pubs with jovial staff and good honest grub. The Sportsman is one of those pubs, fighting off the likes of Marstons and Wetherspoons by offering tables that wobble slightly and staff that know you by your face, rather than the drink you order (although they remember that too). Meal wise I have never left the place wanting more. Portion size is great, and prices are very reasonable. I can heartily recommend the butterfly chicken breast in a stilton sauce. Sublime. With weekly quiz nights, outdoor areas and an overflow area for meals it is a proper pub that dishes out proper food (no cold cuts and crisps only option here) while also retaining something that is rapidly being pushed out of small towns and villages as the super chains buy our souls.
