I’m not going to tell you this was cheap grub. But it was excellent grub. Portions were almost too much. Food was fantastic and served in good time. We were staying close enough for us to use Spooners for breakfast and our evening meal. Staff were extremely welcoming. Would thoroughly recommend. Depending on where you sit, you can get a great view of the platform and keep an eye on the trains. We will be going back there on our next trip.

Fantastic cafe/bar/restaurant right alongside the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Heritage Railway. Such a cosy, welcoming atmosphere. We had a very nice coffee and the best bara brith we’ve ever tasted! If we visit Porthmadog again, we’d definitely make a beeline to this place. The menu looked very good. We were limited for time on this occasion but would love to visit again.

Staff are lovely but the place probably needs an upgrade. Coffee cups were small and similar to a working person's canteen. Coffee was too milky and weak for me. Considering the amount of money that perhaps goes through the tills for the steam train rides, I think a bit more needs to go on cafe facilities. £18 for 3 small coffees and 3 small slice of cake seems a bit high. No atmosphere for my liking. I liked the little gift shop though.

Lovely place and delicious food, you have to order from the cafe counter, but they will bring the food to your table. The wait time was a bit long but it was worth the wait. I will 100% recommend the loaded fries (it's more than you expect, trust me). The other dishes we ordered were hunters chicken and jacked potato with ham and cheese. The parking behind the pub is for train access and we were not allowed to park there, however there are plenty of parking spaces nearby (behind the shell nearby the pub), we paid 2.20£ for 4h parking

Stopped here after a long train ride for some food , once we found a table and order the food which for 4 people with drinks was over £60 pounds.i thought that was expensive. The food was nice however I did notice staff smoking at the back of the kitchen area with the kitchen door open even though the smoke was not going into the kitchen I still wondered why this was allowed . The food when it finally arrived was good and cooked fresh the staff attitude at times when ordering seemed a bit off and rude . The place was busy and lots of people in there .the gift shop next door is really good

Ordered food at 12.43 on the day of our visit. Saw gentleman who ordered just before me have his order brought out after about 15 minutes. Then a procession of other orders from people who were after us get their food. After 30 minutes I went to check and was told our food would be out in 3-5 minutes. One of the staff then appeared a couple of minutes later to check what we'd ordered and said it would be out straightaway. I had to leave my table so left my husband there and he said the food came out just after I'd left. Very disappointed with the length of time it took and no explanation for the delay. Presume we were forgotten about!

So we tried to have a lunch to support the railway but you can't take dogs in which is unusual these days. All the outdoor tables were taken with people just having drinks and watching the trains so we couldn't have lunch there. Food looks ok but I'm unable to try it. Surely these days well behaved dogs should be allowed in Spooners? Other restaurants in Portmadoc do and they got our £60 worth of business from us...

Popped in here for breakfast and one of the best we've had in a long time! Good quality sausages and bacon (which I suspect was sourced locally), mushrooms and tomatoes were fresh (as opposed to tinned / frozen - and so much nicer for it), the toast was from a really tasty uncut loaf rather than a sliced loaf and all was cooked really well. Set us up nicely for a days walking 😋

We stopped here while looking round the port. The restaurant has hot and cold food, your usual standard fare, chips, burgers, pizzas, wraps, sausage roll etc. A large bar stocks a wide range of ales and soft drinks. The restaurant is part of the steam railway station, so you can see the trains arrive and leave. So this makes for a unique view from the restaurant. We were satisfied with our food, it looked to be home made, and there was plenty of it. I was a bit underwhelmed by my pizza, but the others enjoyed their wraps, and chips. The prices for food and drink was very reasonable. The toilet facilities are located at one end of the station.

Where on earth do I begin, that food was delicious (I was tempted to lick the plate) we ordered a beef burger, which was succulent and the chips were cooked to perfection. In addition, I personally ordered myself a hunters chicken, it was just amazing! And the corn on the cob was brilliant. Staff were welcoming, helpful and very friendly with great organisation and witty banter. I did embarrassingly drop my cutlery on the floor, however, a fresh, clean set was presented to me before I could ask for another set. And the place was well kept and tables were clean and tidy! Overall, I would give this place 6 starts but that isn’t possible unfortunately. Would recommend if you are ever in the area! Perfection.

I will never be eating here ever again! I had the eggs florentine and it was awful. The way it should be layered is muffin, butter, egg, hollandaise sauce and finally wilted spinach, but here they put the spinach under the egg resulting in a soggy, green and odd tasting muffin. Items on the counter are not labeled or priced so we had to ask what each cake was (which was tiring after lots of walking) and the price of each. The crisps also aren't priced. It is very expensive here and the service and cooking is to a low standard. I suspect everything is frozen. You also have to get your own knives and forks and pick up your food from the counter yourself. They also have very strict rules as to what you can eat and when. They separate the day into 3 sections on the menu and what you can eat in each section. The service did not come with a smile. I am so disappointed after high hopes.

We came to Spooners on Tues 2/7/24 . When we entered the car park at 11.30 we explained to the car park attendant we were going for a meal at Spooners and asked if it was ok to park which he said yes . Our friends arrived about 12 and we had a very nice meal , helped by nice staff at reasonable prices . So , why you might ask have I only given you 1 star . That is because of the horrendous attitude of the car park attendant when we were leaving . We left the restaurant about 2.00 and escorted our elderly friends around the corner to make sure there lift was there . We got back to the car and he quite rudely told me we shouldn't of gone around the corner and that we wouldn't be allowed back into the car park ever again !!! If he want so pathetic it would have been funny ! I told him with an attitude like his I wouldn't return and his reply was good !! You need to know we visit the area regularly thru work and would have vote back to Spooners and were also talking about doing some of the train trips - now not a chance . Oh and I have to add the car park was much emptier than when we first arrived . HE SHOULD BE NO WHERE NEAR THE PUBLIC !!!!! This will be shared far and wide !!

My wife and I had a very good meal here last year, and looked forward to a similar experience this time. We only had mains, and sadly the quality was very disappointing. I had a "rack" of pork ribs with cob corn and chips. The ribs were fine, but came from a rather small pig! The corn, half a cob, was mushy, and had probably been frozen. My wife fared worse. She had "pan-fried" sea bass. The fish itself was fine, after she'd removed the skin. The beans were flabby, obviously having been frozen, and the samphire was so tough and stringy it was completely inedible. The best part of both dishes was the chips and potatoes! Very disappointing for the price.
