Spicy Haandi in Leicester

Liked it, very authentic, staff were great, treated us to an extra poppadum with a new pickle they were trying it was very good. Food wise we went East African inspired dishes, lamb and chicken. Wife thought there was not enough lamb, mine was fine. Lovely spicing. Very good.

I ordered a jeera cumin dish with sauce to my taste. and asked a chap named Raj.he will sort your tastbuds out. An the food was so tasty I'm going to try it again tomorrow. Excellent flavours bless the chef he can cook.

Food was delicious and my instructions of no butter on the nan was followed. I will definitely will be ordering again and I recommend this restaurant to anyone else!

Never delivered the food but clicked that it had Been. They gave us an estimated time of 1 and half hours but never delivered. Terrible.

We are frequent eaters at Spicy Haandi! Great food & great hospitality with a smile by Raj, Manish & Uncle (we fondly address the senior owner) make every visit a warm, "home away from home" experience. Very tasty & lip-smacking spicy Indian & African food. Veg & Chicken machoosi, Masala Fish, Crispy garlick naan, biryani rice are some of my hot favourites! The portions are sumptuous yet very reasonably priced. If you are fond of tangy & spicy food - then Spicy Haandi is a must visit!

Fantastic food, now called Teli’s Spicy, but still the same family owners, with friendly service. Really authentic food, lots of choice with specialities.

What an absolute gem!! We visited Teli's after watching Leicester Tigers and we're very impressed. As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted warmly and met with a smile. Our table was a good size for two people, allowing for plenty of room for the amazing dishes. We ordered a mixture of chicken samosas and vegetable samosas to share between us to start with. The samosas were full of tasty, spicy filling encased in beautiful, crispy filo pastry. For main course, we chose a king prawn tawa, a king prawn bhuna, garlic naan and pilau rice. When we ordered we were asked how much heat we prefer in our dishes, as all the food here is cooked fresh to order, we both asked for medium. The dishes were exceptional, unlike other Indian restaurants, the dishes were served mediumly spiced and the flavours were fresh and moreish. The king prawns were proper king prawns, their size was super and they were plump and full of flavour. The garlic naan was fabulous, served with butter on the top, and the rice was ample and served us both generously. The real gem of this restaurant is the people. All the waiters were extremely friendly, helpful and wanted to be sure we were content with our meal. We live in South Derbyshire where finding Indian restaurants of this quality is nigh on impossible. We will definitely be revisiting Teli's Spicy, I cannot wait

Visited on our lads night out. One of my friends has dined frequently at the restaurant. Whilst the decor is a little dated don’t let that put you off. The welcome and service throughout our visit was absolutely superb. And the food….WOW!! Beautifully cooked range of main dishes and the best rices and naan breads I have ever had in my life. That followed no less than 7 accompaniments to our poppadoms. Plus Cobra on tap and a selection of other large bottled lagers. Brilliant value for money (superb prices). Would revisit in a heartbeat!

Popped in here late Saturday after seeing Tom Jones. Raj and his staff looked after us as soon as we walked in the service was impeccable the food was delicious, hot and full of flavour. Extremely good value one of the best curries we've had. Will definitely visit again if we are up that way.

Burnt poppadoms, no meat in 1 of the curries and about 10 whole garlic cloves in each of the curries it was supposed to be jalfrezi and not 1 chilli in it.

Went here for the first time as we stayed at the holiday inn express, quick 5 min walk, what a gem, both the food and service were excellent, we’ve now found a great place to eat when we stop over, really good price, staff were friendly, I’m sure they will see us again soon 😀

We were staying at Hotel Brooklyn and 8 of us fancied a curry. Not from the area, but a curry lover, I took to google and spotted Teli’s. We entered a little nervous. It’s not a jazzy, super trendy spot but my goodness. The food, the essential reason for going is as good as I’ve had anywhere. Super fresh. Home cooked. Full of flavour and not mass produced. Drink is cheap and the foot is great value. If you are near, you must go. The East African specials are sensational. We’ll be back.

Wow I have eaten some Indian Food in my time and with 20 great trips to India you certainly get to sample variety. Like the review from Jim Bob I turned up in a group of 3 without a booking and settled in to great service by the staff and some plentiful portions, it was evident that the clients were mainly locals and the place was full. Really enjoyed the food, the passion for it and the service along with very authentic home cooking feel.

Having visited this wonderful family run restaurant for the first time in 2 years I am pleased to say that things have not changed a bit. The welcome was friendly, the service was fantastic and in no way rushed and the food was spot on. I had a King Prawn Jalfrezi with Nan bread, the portion of food was generous, it was loaded with King prawns which were cooked perfectly and the sauce was a lovely consistency. Everyone at my table agreed that their food also tasted very good. This small well established Indian restaurant remains a hidden treasure in the bustling Indian cuisine market in Leicester. For me, it has consistently given me the best curries that I have eaten in Leicester both for taste and moreso, value for money is a big thing now when eating out and Spicy Haandi gives you all of these and more. I will definitely be returning with increased frequency. Thanks to all the staff at Spicy Haandi who give a very human touch to their business.

Group of three of us turned up unannounced, we were seated and served drinks immediately. Ordered and when food arrived it was great quality and taste was fantastic. 5 mins walk from Leicester Tigers stadium and hotel Brooklyn. Great experience.

From the first step inside it was an experiance. Raj made me feel welcome and chilled out after a busy day working. Don't expect the usual waiters dress. Even Raj dresses casual. Even more relaxing. Polite and accommodating. No rush, just when you are ready, call. Food was amazing. Watch out, the portions are large. It was a great time winding down eating and drinking. Thank you Raj. This was our first visit to Teli's Spicy, over Xmas Eve. Extensive menu and the host, Dharmesh, took into account some dietary requirements. Starters were excellent, fresh and piping hot. Mains were also great, good size portions along with soft naan bread (not stodge!) . Would highly recommend the Paneer masala mains along with any of the chef's specials. Hidden gem, great host and really good food!

We’ve been here only once before and that was amazing. But this visit was simply brilliant. We had the freshly made Tawa and the lamb jalfrezi. Who knew that the spice goes so well with champagne. And at only £35 for a Moët you can’t go wrong. Honestly, the best tasting, freshest meal you’ll ever have. I only review when I’m blown away and today we were blown away. The staff are so so so friendly that you won’t believe me until you meet them. Wherever you are in Leicester visit here and you’ll not be disappointed

We thoroughly enjoyed our night food was delicious. Measures in place to stay Covid safe, it’s evident to see the family have made a huge effort to keep customers safe during these difficult times(social distance stickers on the floor, self service hand sanitises on all tables and adapted new way of serving food and drink).Customer experience was fab the waiter was very friendly and hospitable. Hats off to all of them,definitely worth a visit.

Have to say this is the best Indian restaurant I've been to in Leicester. To have chicken on the bone available is fantastic. Chicken Machoosi is my favourite.

It took me 15 years to find what I thought was the best curry in Leicester, until I attended this gem! What you wont get, is a luxurious setting, ambient lighting and all of that jazz. What you WILL get is, friendly staff, a clean environment and most importantly food that will knock your socks off. Admittedly, I have only had part of the menu (chicken jalfrezi and a few other things) and there was flavours in thay Jalfrezi that was on another level. You can tell that it was cooked by someone that genuinely cares about their craft. One thing that wasn't overly great, was the mixed grill - but as it was a takeaway and not on a sizzling platter, I cant critique it too much. However, tale my word for it PLEASE, the food from this place is beyond anything I've had precious......and I've been around the world eating. Im very hard to please! Great work guys!

We ordered food for 8pm and it was delivered at 7.20pm, the delivery guy said it was because the food was ready and it was also due to the distance but we are a 20 min drive max (with traffic) from the restaurant - there was also a miscommunication meaning the order printed off at the restaurant did not match and my husband did not get the specific curry he had chosen.

What a find!The waiters Minesh and Dharnesh are gentle and humble. Really enjoyed their waiting.The food was well up our party of 10's street.The east African indian style food is the best I have had in this country . It was like old fashioned Indian home cooking - a lost art.The ambience was well up my street, I love old skool old fashioned places.Only problem is for me - I live in Essex. Too far to become a regular. Go..you will not regret it nor the trip down memory lane of old styled curry houses.

Can not fault any part of the meal, firstly greeted and seated and was made to feel very welcome. The food was delicious from the papadum starters through to the mains. Their Home made sauces are unique and original. If your looking for a nice Indian with a good atmosphere and quality service I recommend Spicy Haandi. Full complements to the chefs and front of house team.

came here for valentines with my partner, and safe to say it was the best meal out we’d had in a long time! the food was absolutely delicious and came in a timely manner, and the service was second to none! super friendly staff and tasty homemade food- simply could not fault it.

Five of us went to Spicy Handi before the Leicester v Wigan FA Cup match. Three had not been before.The following was delicious with plenty of variety and unusual East African dishes.Two of our group enjoyed the excellent spicy Chicken on the bone. Everything is freshly cooked and the service is relaxed and friendly.The first timers loved it and my son & I will be there again this Saturday.

I came here on a business trip staying in a nearby hotel, I found this place on google maps, comfortably in walking distance. I walked in and waited for a few minutes then sat down anyway, soon someone came out and gave me a menu. It was really impressive, the kind of place I’d be tempted to ask the waiter what to order.. I declined the popadoms because I wanted a starter - but when I saw the chutneys I regretted that! Amazing chilli sauces. The starter (lamb kebab) was spectacularly tender and spicy... I was talked into the Tawa Fish main course, and it was presented on a round flat dish (not overly sizzly)- I asked for it to be hot, and boy it was spicy, but I could still taste the amazing flavours. 2 chapatis sufficed. A thoroughly fulfilling meal indeed. This is now one of the two restaurants in this country that I would invent reasons to travel to the town in order to eat there. I have to go back and try the other things on the menu. Fingers crossed things won’t change anytime soon!

We’ve just had a fantastic meal at Spicy Haandi. The food was great - really well flavoured, freshly cooked dishes. We all ordered completely different meals and unlike a lot of restaurants they tasted different, not like different meat in the same sauce!The owner Raj was very friendly and it really felt like being hosted at someone house. Great night and we will be back. Highly recommend.

My wife and I were stopping in the area for the night and why not have a curry as you do. We found this place, well what can I say, to look at it from the outside or even the inside it doesn't look great and very dated. Probably 8 times of 10 I would walk straight past but I'm sure glad I didn't. The staff (family) were wonderful such a nice group of people.

Forget all the bad reviews don’t watch that one of the best Indian restaurants in Leicester that accommodate rugby fans and football fans. The Family looks after all customers with there heart with 15 years in trade. Check it out you will not be disappointed and don’t miss out on the complimentary baileys offered by the owner at the end of the meal which gives that personal touch

I ate here with 3 other work friends on a Monday evening. We weren’t from the area but were so glad we came across this wonderful Indian restuarant. Each dish we had was absolutely delicious but more than that, the staff were so friendly, welcoming and helpful. We all commented on how much we had enjoyed the meal and felt compelled to write a review. Would definitely recommend!

I met up recently with very good friends for our annual get together at this small but well established restaurant.

Found this place with the help of Trip Advisor and we weren’t disappointed. Lovely friendly staff, a huge menu with things I’d never seen before (try the Masala Chips, why I’ve not seen these before I don’t know) and lovely, tasty food. I ate at Gordon Ramsay’s place yesterday and while that was a fabulous experience, I loved the homely atmosphere in this little place. If you’re around for the football or rugby, pay them a visit. You won’t be disappointed either.

We had a great day at the rugby, not the result I was hoping for but hey no. We topped it off with a great curry. The Lamb Bhuna and the Mixed Veg Special were absolutely superb. I can guarantee that I will be back again.

Had two takeaways and one meal in at this small restaurant, while visiting a relative in the Leicester Royal Infirmary. The food is excellent and the staff so friendly and welcoming. Run by a family who came from Uganda in the 1970s, they offer the usual Indian options plus a number of specials and East African dishes. All the dishes we tried were freshly cooked and clearly not produced using the bought in sauces so many standard curry houses rely upon. We shall definitely visit again.

The restaurant was really prompt with delivery etc but the food wasn’t up to scratch. I ordered a tikka masala, but not sure what curry I actually had delivered because it had a very unusual taste, something about it wasn’t right so we left it. The other food we ordered was nice but shame about the curry.

Absolutely the worst Indian takeaway I’ve ever had ! We ordered popadoms to start which were soft ! Not a good start on something so simple , then lamb tikka and mixed kebab , what a pile of slop very oily and tasteless , then lamb tikka jalfrezi and lamb jalfrezi , tasted burnt and oily again and looked like someone had just made it in the toilet and hardly any meat ,absolutely disgusting and burnt egg rice , what a waste of £30 plus I can not say how bad it really was I’m amazed they can get away with it !

I was fortunate enough to visit this restaurant in the off season. Due to its proximity to the rugby and football grounds it can be very busy at certain times.

Too much oil. The entire veggi curry was submerged in oil. Naan were tasty though.
