Spicenick in Leicester

Had a lovely meal, great food as always. The chef even took the time to come and check the food was right. Glad to be able to get back to coming here. It’s not a fancy place but we do an 80 mile round trip for the excellent food. Always make us feel welcome.

We visited during the Eat out scheme and the service and the food were terrible! We ordered prawn curry, chicken curry and lamb curry - the curry sauce was exactly the same and tasted like it was from a jar! There were no onions in the sauce like usual curries, just tomato base. The starter was a let down - seemed like it was warmed in the microwave, and it wasn't even sizzling when it came out - the onions raw! This has been a major let down for them as they were trying to cram in as many people to make money but lost out on the quality of food. The nicest things were the poppadoms and my large coke. Never returning here again.

Turned up on time for reservation to see a full restaurant with several large parties (10+) at a couple of tables. No staff were wearing gloves, one had a mask pulled down around his neck, I saw no others wearing masks. We were not invited to sanitise our hands and no details were taken for contact tracing.We had to struggle to get a drinks order after waiting for about 10 minutes, and the same to get our starters ordered. The waiter didn't take the main order as he was keen to get the starters in. Poppadums and sauces appeared and were nice, and the main course order was taken. After about half an hour the starters appeared and were genuinely excellent.Unfortunately after that our main courses didn't arrive until 2hrs 20minutes after we'd walked in the door! We complained and were told that the waiter should have advised us there'd be a delay, but the guy who told us was the waiter who took our initial order!The main courses were all OK, but nowhere near the quality of the starters - maybe the chef had gone home, it was late at this point.There were lots of other minor issues, but I can summarise and say there seemed to be a total disregard for Covid protection, the general hygiene was poor, the food quality varied, and the service was slow, and unhelpful. We won't be returning.

The Jaanu website & App states that the restaurant is open & providing food for delivery & collection, so we made an order for delivery for a special Father’s Day meal & paid in full. The food didn’t turn up, no one answered any of the phone numbers provided, and when we went to the restaurant it turns out it is not operating during lockdown... how could they not have got round to putting a notice on the website or app over the past 3 months? How can they still accept payment when not providing any service? I can only assume it’s deliberate and dishonest, and I can only hope that my credit card company will help with a refund.

Refurbish to the jaanu restaurant. It’s is recently refurbished old Spicenick restaurant but still superb food & very friendly staff and great service

Although we're local to the area we'd never quite got around to eating here before. Hower after ordering takeaway on a rainy Tuesday I can happily say that we'd been missing out! The food was really very good, although the menu could have done with some more detail for some of the more unusual dishes but other than that it was top notch! If they offered delivery, rather than just collection-only for takeaways then I imagine they'd do very well indeed given the limited options available locally.

Travelled down from cambridge just to eat here again. Yes it doesn't have mood lighting etc but my God the food is amazing. Proper Indian food full of spices and flavour! Well worth the journey down and would defo recommend. Great choice for everyone including veggies and very good prices. (Would defo stop again!)Thank you to all the staff

This place looks like a big caravan turned into a mobile restaurant. We ordered starters and the chops had no flavour at all, wings were okay also service was really bad ordered Diet Coke arrived in a can and plastic glass food mains were average not the best place to go and doubt will be going back

This is the new benchmark I will now use for rating a curry house.The food was outstanding,well presented and the service was excellent.We stayed at the Rafee hotel next door so were really limited to coming here but how glad we were.Great value as well,2 starters,2 curries,2 naans and rice plus 4 beers for £42

The restaurant doesn't look like much, being in an old Little Chef building. But the food was absolutely wonderful, the staff were incredibly helpful, and the cost of a meal for two inc starters and a pint each of Kingfisher came in at £35. Wonderful!

I visited with a couple of friends and we loved it. My friend had been before and suggested we try this place. As we got there we were promptly seated and drinks orders taken. They have a very quick level of service.We had 2 sizzles for starters. This was more than enough for us. We ordered 3 mains with 3 nans and 1 rice dish.The food was very tasty and spiced perfectly. Compliments to the chef as they made the order perfect for us. We could not fault this place. If you want an authentic meal, this is the place to go. It was a little pricey but we were happy to pay.All in all an amazing place we would definitely be visiting again soon.Thanks to all the staff. You made our evening a memorable one.

So glad my colleague recommended Spicenick. The food was fresh and beautifully spiced. There's a great choice of veggie dishes, including Indo-Chinese and lots of lovely paneer options :)The waiters were great and whilst the restaurant area isn't fancy, the bar's fabulous, there's big windows and loads of lovely countryside around three sides, so don't let it put you off.Thanks, we'll be back!

I thought I’ll try this place for a second time and I remembered why I didn’t go back. The food is not great at all. The service is great. The best thing was he pint.

A great selection of beers and meals. The menu is extensive and the whole leg of lamb is a must! It needs to be ordered 48hrs in advance. A must for a real foodie!

Although a little tired from the exterior and a strange choice of location, Spicenick is one of my favourite curry houses.

I can't review the food but I just wanted to share my experience of the customer service I received over the phone. I rang up to enquire if any alterations could be made to any of the dishes as I have an allergy. I was told that 'no we don't do that' and that nothing was made from fresh. I then asked if they could recommend anywhere that does and they said 'no, you can look on the internet' and hung up on me! Just astounded!

You can always tell if you have selected a good restaurant that serves Indian Cuisine when a lot of the guests are from the Indian sub-Continent. Large menu but amazingly no vegetable side dishes. I had Chicken Karai which was very tasty and very hot (both) with a garlic naan. My pal had King Prawn Biryani which was also very hot but delicious. The prawns really were king size. Washed down with a couple of cold Tiger beers it was a good meal BUT before asking for the bill I asked if they had Gulab jamun. They did and so I introduced my friend to the delights of my favourite Indian sweet. Well worth a visit and the service was excellent.

El motivo de tres estrellas es muy grasosa y eran samosa methi pollo cebollas en salsa fueron quemados, sin embargo, el servicio fue excelente y sin duda recomendaría fry arranque y buena parte puede preguntar cómo picante quieres. La comida es genial. La única cosa que sugeriría es que si tuvieran más variedad de bebidas, aparte de que es un buen lugar para ir con la familia.

Proper Leicester Indian Food at a good price that compensates the tricky location.Absolutely 100% definitely will go back.

This is a very traditional style, home cooking Indian. The surroundings are like a tired diner, which I quite like. Portions are huge. Food is very cheap. Plenty of flavour and each dish I have had here was good. Only watch out, is that it is cooked in a very traditional way, which does mean its going to be oily. Will I be going again - definitely.

Visited the restaurant several times now and have to say it is probably one of the best curry places you could go to! Food is delicious and service is excellent. Extremely friendly staff who can customise food if you wish and provide honest recommendations! If you are in need of some comforting indian food then this is the place to go! Definitely coming back again!

We heard a few things about this place and thought we'd try it out. Can not fault the food, it's so tasty and the service is he great too. Inside and out its not a posh place but that's the best thing about it. It's a relaxed atmosphere and great food at great prices.

Tasty food but sadly too oily, even though I stated when ordering, please ask the chef not to put too much oil...the staff were grumpy....

From the moment you arrive the service is exceptional, one of the best I've experienced, all the staff are amazing and very friendly. If you go on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday book in advance as they do get busy. However, even if you forget to book, they have a lovely bar area where you can have some drinks and watch some sports whilst you wait for your table. The food is always exceptional, not once have I been let down, by far SpiceNick is one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever been to (and I've been to a fair few). If anyone is ever around Leicestershire and is hungry I highly recommend SpiceNick you will not be disappointed I guarantee you that. There is also plenty of free parking and the food is priced very reasonably. I can't wait to go back. Enjoy guys!

Been to the resturant several time. Everytime served us within 5mins. Really great value for money as we always order main course otherwise its too much to eat.

Four of us went to the restaurant Saturday night there was plenty of free parking outside the restaurant ,we ordered two main veg dishes,chicken tikka Biryani and lamb curry nan rice salad all the food was delicious and everything tasted so fresh. All the dishes were full of fresh flavour they even gave complimentary popadoms for four of us with pickles, this was a nice touch . The service was excellent the staff were all friendly and helpful , the atmosphere was a very nice and relaxed with tables full of family, couples and groups of friends suitable for all. I will be going back again and again to try out all the other dishes.Thank you to all the staff and compliments paid to the chefs.See you soon

This is honestly one of the best Indian restaurants in Leicestershire.Superb service all the time and food to match. We are always made to feel like one of the family here. It does do the most amazing lamb chops! Good authentic Indian food, made the way it should be!Don't be fooled by the outside! Go on in...you won't regret it!

We have been here many times food is always spot on & service is really good also. The ambience of the place isn't like other places.. however restaurant is clean and decor is pleasant. I have had take away from here and has always been very good also

This is the second birthday party we have had here at Spicenick and all I can say is that it was amazing. They opened early for us and we had the whole place yo ourselves. The food was brilliant and the staff really looked after us and treated us like royalty.. I really have to praise every member of the team for all there hard work and a special thanks to PankajBhai the chef. If you want a good family meal that is a cut above the rest then visit this place... Keep up the good work

We were very sceptical about the restaurant as it was empty when we arrived, we were very early. People arrived though as we were waiting for our meal. The staff however were so friendly, made us very comfortable and cooked us a beautiful meal.

This is the second time I have been to this cafe/dinner and giving them the benefit of the drought, I did not put a negative review on tripadvisor, the first time.The first time I went with my family about 1 year ago, and to say the service and food was bad, would be an understatement. This weekend a friend had booked a table and a group of 10 of us went, we had pre-ordered the food. When we got there the starters came out quickly and promptly, which was good. We had a shank of lamb, poppadum’s and a few sizzlers. I would say the sizzlers where not the best I have ever had, but for a cafe/dinner, they were okay.Then we waited, and waited and waited for the mains, it took 1 hour and 5 minutes for the mains to come out, when we asked about the main, all we were being told they would be out in 5 minutes.The cafe/dinner had no more than 40 people, which any restaurant should be able to handle. We arrive at 8pm and did not leave until 11.50pm, it should not take more than 4 hours to have a meal?.Another disappointment was that all the dishes are quite small.I cannot understand how it has got all these good reviews.

Spicenick is tucked away on a dual carriageway pretty much in the middle of nowhere.In what was a former little chef, is a restaurant that after 5:00 pm becomes an Indian food.Decor is spartan and very much like a cafeteria, nothing fancy here in that department.But the food is excellent. The super veg sizzler was delicious and simply spectacular..the Paneer tikka main I ordered was very tasty too. Nano were ok, not very pillowy and doughy like they should be, but no Indian restaurant in Leicester has a clue how to serve proper naan bread. That said, they weren't bad at all.Service was attentive, polite and unobtrusive. It's nice to be left to eat a meal in peace without constantly being badgered by staff, and the convenience of having assistance if needed.The location is extremely off putting, but the food here is very good indeed. Be sure to bring a designated driver, this place is not accessible without a car.Look forward very much to visiting again.

Whilst I must say that the service is excellent the food let them down. Some of the dishes tasted the same. Even though it was a quiet night it seemed like they rushed the food.

Today my family go to spicenick, we had the most amazing meal. It was absolutely delicious. Super service & good staff, I definitely recommend this place.

All bad, crudely flavoured food, and we tried a good range in our hungry party of seven, some veggie and some meat eaters. Soggy poppadoms, nasty aubergine, everything over-salted and badly spiced. And grumpy staff too. Just keep driving south for 20 mins and go somewhere in Leicester instead. I cannot understand how it has got all these good reviews (which us why we came).

The food here was plentiful and tasty. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The menu was good and my waiter was really happy to make my dishes spicier when I asked him to.But, I almost didn't go in. The building looks almost derelict. There was old, trashed furniture outside the side of the building. You walk past fruit machines as you go in. The whole environment reminds me of a run-down snooker hall.But the food was good...!

Seen on trip advisor and thought I'd give it ago. To be fair you drive to it and would drive straight passed! However do not do it drive in a taste the food very delicious full of spice if u like it. Service was fantastic came up a few times to ensure we were ok just what u want. Drinks always full really pleased and would come again.left overs! no problem they will bag it up for u to enjoy tomorrow at home I recommend and would drive the 30 minutes again xx

I have been to this place a numerous times with family and every time the food is delicious. Very friendly staff and they have excellent customer service, could not fault anything and will be visiting again.

I was here last week with a colleague and we had the most amazing meal.lt was absolutely delicious! I had the Chicken Tikka Masala, Pilau Rice & Garlic Naan and it was one of the best curries l have ever had l definitely recommend this place.

I went here with my wife and 2 children and I must say this place is so underrated. Food here is as tasteful, if not more so than any other place in Leicester. We had 5 different dishes and they all tasted completely different rather than slight variations of the same sauce. My son had a mouth ulcer and when eating his food they noticed my son was struggling (thinking it was too spicy), without us even asking they brought out a complementary dish they felt he would be able to eat. I must say me and my wife were very impressed, never seen this type of service in any restaurant before.Very reasonably priced, with most mains around £6 and you get plenty of meat or veg in them too.Must try and worth the extra drive. Although the decor may not as high as others around, but neither is the price.

Been here couple times. There's a wide range of food. Also the foods always been good. Customer service is good also. Only prob is no signage on main road. So you could miss it.

Ordered a takeaway delivery on Saturday night (ratings based on this - haven't eaten in the restaurant itself) - arrived at our requested time and food was hot and really good - much better than other local offerings. Had 2 Paneer and 2 chicken dishes plus mixed veg karai, a rice each and naans. This was the first time we had used Spicenick and so we didn't know the portion sizes. We over-ordered - had enough for the next night too! Will definitely use again - it's a pleasant surprise to have something good to replace the Little Chef!

Very good food and staff, who can't do enough for you, once you try the food, you will keep comming back for more.

Booked an early table on Sunday 26th April 2015. Party of 7 adults and baby. From the minute we walked through the door the staff could not do enough to make us feel welcome. It was a 30th birthday celebration for one of the party. Nothing was too much trouble. We collectively ordered different items from the very comprehensive menu. All served steaming hot, tasty with just the right balance of flavours. I had the King Prawn Sizzler which was wonderful. Looking round the table the other choices look very appetising as well. Not upmarket posh in regards to the decor but for food quality, service and genuine attentiveness it's a winner!Well worth a visit.Thank you to hard working staff that made our meal such a pleasant experience.

As a regular user of this restaurant I decided to book a table for my sons 30th birthday meal just close family. (7) I was confident that the family would enjoy the venue & food & so they did, they all complimented me on the choice of the restaurant & the excellent food, but most of all the service & friendliness of the staff within. Well worth a visit with no traffic or parking issues. 10/10 all round thank you Spice Nick !

So we dropped in here forum monthly curry club outing. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. We had sizzles to start and they were fabulous. Would certainly recommend. Not sure on the main curry though as there was a lot of sauce and not much meat. Think we ate them out of stock with all the sizzler we had as starters.So in summary, if your passing it's worth dropping in to try but I wouldn't go out my way to eat there as there is better closer to me.

I thought the food was amazing! Staff were very friendly and attentive.I ordered the king prawns and chops sizzzler for starters. The prawns were amazing the chops were slightly over cooked but very nice. For mains i ordered the home cooked lamb on bone which was amazing and the butter chicken. Very good sized portions. Definitely would visit again, price was resonable for 2 people.

Went with my family to Spicenick. My children and my wife really enjoyed the food here. It wasn't too spicy for the kids and even they commented on how much they enjoyed it. The service was friendly, fast and efficient. They also gave us some freebies and a discount off the bill.I would recommend it to any curry lover. Good homely food. Well worth a visit and good value also. Well done Spicenick. I will definitely be going again.

The SPICENICKBAR & GRILL is one of the best India food in Leicestershire. Food is always to a high standard, service is also brilliant, daytime served English breakfast, is places outside Leicester, I go my family and friends is outings, The starters were very testy , tandoori mix grill, fish fry, chilli paneer& brilliant roast lamb.Nice bar& venue, plenty of parking place I would definitely recommend SpiceniBAR&GRILL

We Went to spicenickbar&grill me & My family last weekend. India cuisine is my favourite one! I've been in so many INDIAN RESTAURANT in Leicestershire but food & service in spicenickbar&grill is BEST. The price were very good. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

An old little chef, that still looks and feels like a little chef. But the staff were great and the food was good.

Spicenick is an excellent Indian restaurant. Although tucked away from the city it is a gem well worth a visit for authentic Indian food. Great value for money and the service is brilliant. Pankaj the chef will cook dishes to individual taste. All staff friendly. Drinks fairly priced.

Went here for a family meal. Pre-ordered the roast leg of lamb as we were going on a Sunday. You have to give 24 hours notice for the leg of lamb and it's notice worth giving because the meat is so well cooked that it's melting off the bone and into your mouth.This is not your traditional English roast, it has an Indian twist. The lamb was spiced up nicely, not over-spiced, just right. It comes with spiced potatoes and veg and salad. I accompanied my roast with some fries and Peshwari nan which were both brilliant.The starters were also very tasty. Had spicy wings, chicken tikka and fish fry. The fish was excellent.There's also a really well stocked bar and the beer is good.Plenty of parking and nice seating inside.I would definitely recommend Spicenick.

Spicenicks is a different type of restaurant In Leicester as they cater for both Indian and English cuisine. There is a vast range of food available and it is very very reasonably priced.The service is just amazing, the guys that were looking after us were called Jimmy and William and they were very patient with us and explained the dishes as we were not sure what some of the dishes were.The atmosphere is lovely and it is a family oriented place where you can go with young kids.If you do give it a try ask for Jimmy & William and I am sure you will not be disappointed.Thank you Jimmy and William and all the staff at Spicenicks for a very enjoyable evening, we will be back soon!

We were staying at the hotel next to this restaurant , So decided to have a meal here . We did not know what to expect , but I must say it was superb . We started with poppadoms and we had lamb bhuna and lamb rogan josh . We both agreed this was one of the best indian meals we ever had . .The staff are lovely and friendly and very attentive . very well priced too .. Would recommend .

I have had 2 takeaways so far from Spicenick and is the best Indian food I've had. I am looking forward to going to the restaurant itself. They also do English food in the day so going to try their breakfast.
