Spice Village in York

I could never give somewhere a 5 for food but if I was going to this would be the place, this has got to be the best Indian takeaway in York, the staff are all absolutely fantastic, very welcoming and friendly. Open kitchen while you wait for your food so you can see how clean and tidy the area is that they prep in which is one of my biggest concerns at takeaways.My family have followed around the owner from Indian to Indian for 3 generations now until now as he has finally got his own place and it is the best so far. Thank you Mr Ahmed for being so fantastic and always check on how my grandad is doing

Beautiful food. Nice and hot. Not a bit was left on any of our plates.

Popped in here for the first time recently, and we were immediately impressed by the cheerful friendly staff. My partner and I decided to try some unusual items from the extensive menu, and these were prepared within minutes for us. Everything surpassed our expectations, so we look forward to returning to try something else tasty soon - well done, guys!

Used Spice Village ever since we moved into the area last year. Always order online. The food is great (restaurant standard), plentiful and always on time. Will continue to be our go to Indian takeaway 👍

One of the best Kebab In Yorkshire I've been told till I tried it WOW its something else

Over hour and half for delivery. Chips and rice were cold and soggy. The main meals weren't much warmer. Very disappointed.

Take away only but always great food and friendly service.

VERY DISAPPOINTED. Had food delivered. Was delivered in 20 mins, happy with it being Saturday night. However, the sabji bhaji has gone off, either it’s old and they might’ve just heated it up or just gone off in this heat especially if it has been cooked in the early hour of the day. £3.95 is wasted. And then had aubergine bhaji that has no taste or flavour. Had a lamb dish which tasted a little better but no flavour to taste impress. Surprised to find out poor taste usually buy their kebabs.

We have been loyal customers for years but tonight was just a joke! We ordered at 18.22 pm 2 currys 2 naan s, after 3 phone calls we got our food at 20.40pm! When it came i plated up chicken makani, it had 3 little bits of chicken and tonnes if sauce,it actually looked like a bowl of soup! I will not use spice village again from now on( my hubby rang and asked for a refund , which was posted through the door)

Had two meals delivered tonight, really quickly but it was a Tuesday night. Cooked exactly how we asked, really top quality could not fault it. Thank you.

Food good but far too late without notification. Also, used Just Eat App and the system said it had been delivered ages before it arrived. I guess that is either the driver or the restaurant clicking delivered before it actually is !

Best thing about the whole meal was the mint sauce, the chicken madras was like water chicken tasted like it had been microwaved. Rice was cold Nan breads cold not very good at all

Great food, although veg pilau rice mainly cabbage. Only minor i know. Food brilliant

Chicken tikka masala resembled a tub of red paint and was so sweet. Veg rice felt frozen and only just cooked enough to be warm.

Best curry’s around from my experience of curry eating, position sizes are brilliant for the price not to mention how great the meals are there. 10/10 all round. Great staff great food, can’t beat it!

Disappointing.Poppadoms with ‘pickle tray’=2 pots of lack lustre onion and tomato and a mint raitha. No pickle! Daal was watery and tasteless. Strange sweet chilli sauce sent with Suzzling Mix which was sweet but no chilli.

Picked up takeaway from here last night, I can honestly say the worst Indian meal I have had the Bombay potato was like just boiled spuds and the curry also had no flavor at all. Wouldn’t order again

Food was missing from our order, phoned to tell them, said they would re-deliver, they didn't re-deliver, phoned again, said they would re-deliver, they didn't, phoned again and asked for refund, no refund given, put phone down on us. Won't order again from here.

Good food, pleasant staff. we arrived when it was busy but didn't have to wait too long. would definately come back 😊

We order on a regular basis from The Spice Village.. The team are always really friendly , and welcoming. . I can honestly say that we haven’t found a better Indian takeaway for miles !! Thankyou for all you do, and for all your hard work to ensure food is delivered on time, hot, and to a very high standard. Keep up the great work ! 🙂

Ordered food at 5.23pm on line, which told us food would arrive within 60 minutes. At 6.50pm, we called to see where our food was to be told it would arrive in 5 minutes, no reason for the delay. It did arrive 5 minutes later, but the food was freezing, so it all needed to be heated up. The food did taste lovely, but such a shame the delivery was so late.

Had another great meal tonight had to wait 30 minutes for my order as they were extremely busy, well worth the wait excellent.

Absolutely shocking just ordered a meal from when the restaurant opened tonight kids nuggets and all the chips have either been cooked in filthy oil or are leftovers recooked from last night, the curries aren't much better... Disgusting if I'm honest

Ordered a takeaway into the campsite we are staying in for a couple of days and I have to say it was one of the best we’ve had. Easy to order, 10% discount, driver rang when he entered the site for collection and it was lovely and hot when it came. It is up there with one of the best, absolutely delicious!!! First time I’ve ordered from here but it certainly won’t be the last. 100% recommendation.

This was formerly named the Jinnah. It is a takeaway and delivery place only but I’ve enjoyed the meals I’ve had from here recently. I believe you can use Just Eat too.

Tried the Spice Village while on hols ....wow! Fantastic meal....best I've had I think and hubby wolfed his down too! Reasonably priced....would definitely recommend.

Not a bad takeaway I like my Curry's I think it depends on the chef sometimes the curry sauce is a bit thick otherwise it seems ok. The best Indian takeaway is in Leeds called Tasties at 138 Roundhay road. Every time I am in Leeds I call and buy meals to take home. Wish this was in York.

Booked this little Jem of a place as we're attending York Race Course. Its walking distance so perfect. The food and service spot on. Now we've found it we will be back!

Stayed locally for a week. Ended up going twice in that time. Quality food with a good variety to the normal menu. Probably need to work harder on estimating the correct times for food to be ready but worth the wait.

I've been ordering from here since opening and have never had an issue HOWEVER IVE NEVER HAD A WORSE MEAL I ordered this evening and it was so oily It was uneatable . The kabab is frozen meal thatvyou can buy from any cheap shop and not from the kabab in the shop . I was so shocked when re delivered the giant said I should ask for reduced oil next time .... I kid you not it was horrendous I can't add a photo . But will on Facebook

Not to be confused with the rather poor takeaway that used to on the same site, Spice Village is great, food is fresh, good value, tasty and after having 8 takeaways now, they are very consistent
