Really frustrated. I ordered delivery and it took 2 whole hours to arrive. I was told the driver did not leave until 1.5 hours after I ordered, even though I was told it would take 30 mins to an hour. The phone operator was aware how many miles away I was but the driver made out like it was my bad for ordering on a busy Saturday. The polite thing to do would be to offer a discount to say sorry for the wait, yet I was still made to pay £5 for a 2 hour delivery of cold food. Really disappointing customer service, especially as I've given this place a lot of custom.

Delicious food and great service! Will return again and would recommend anyone passing by to pop in.

Really saddened by the attitude of the staff, especially the mallu guy who served for us (we also from Kerala) and it’s really difficult to say that the service offered by that guy is totally different to the local English customers. He was really happy and active to help others but not us. This is really shows about the mentality of these kinds of people.

The food was good, but the service was disappointing. We were served by a Malayali staff (He is in his 40s) member who exhibited a discriminatory attitude. He was polite and attentive to the local UK customers but treated us poorly, possibly because we're from Kerala. When I paid the bill and thanked him, he ignored me, yet he was courteous to the native customer right behind me. It was a disheartening experience, especially since we share the same heritage. I would not recommend this restaurant to fellow Keralites.

We have been eating from here for two months now and I have waited to see how consistent the food was. First, the service has been excellent, polite, efficient and friendly. Second, the food quality has been superb, well spiced and fresh. Third, I like heat, I normally have a chicken zalzala which is cooked with whole fresh chillies and it is spicy but also delicious. I have discovered another medium spiced dish which is the best curry I have “ever” eaten! It was a chicken chettinad. Please try this dish it was out of this world!

Nice restaurant at a picturesque town of Malmesbury. The kerala style food shows up in the North Indian dishes as well. However the taste is genuine and the staff very prompt.

Don’t judge a book by its cover. Food here is excellent and staff lovely. Look deeper than the setting. Chicken Naadan curry particularly good!

The greeting is always welcoming, the service fast and efficient and I love their food’ There is easy parking and the seating is not over crowded.

Friendly bunch. Good food. It’s rare to get authentic South Indian in the uk but this is it - if slightly altered to uk tastes 😂 I like taking a masala dhosa for a walk along the river

Awful , poor service , poor food with huge lack of flavour, dry tandoor chicken which I would hesitate to say ever seen a tandoor oven . Would not go back and spend more money here .

The popadoms were nice and the sauces which came with them. The onion bhagi and somosa was tasty. However the chicken masala tasted like tomato soup with a very sweet flavour. It did not taste like a typical masala and was just odd. The naan bread and rice was tasty. The restaurant was was nice and the service was good.

Was a lovely restaurant with welcoming and attentive staff. The food was excellent and were large portions. We ordered the Madras and Mutter Paneer which were delicious! Would highly recommend if you come to visit Malmesbury.

Staff were attentive and friendly. The food was great and the value for money is really good. As a coeliac I’m most comfortable with Indian cuisine and they have a detailed menu that shows allergens. Because of this where I wouldn’t normally order certain sides they got extra business from me as I felt really confident in what I was ordering and what it contained so had an extra couple of sides.

One of the best restaurants for delicious Kerala food! Service good. Atmosphere nice. Clean. Not too expensive price. Plenty of parking and tables. And the food is great - tasty, hot and well presented and good portion sizes. Highly recommended.

Really poor performance, had a takeaway which cost over £50 for two of us and was super disappointing. The food did not smell like your classic Indian, and tasted dreadful and ended up throwing most away. Very disappointing, and do not recommend.

Had a fabulous meal whilst visiting Malmesbury, I struggled to choose from what was a lovely menu, I ended up having the green mango prawn curry, it was one of the nicest curries I've had in a few years. I honestly wish it was local as I'd visit regularly. Staff were friendly and service was quick. Only thing I'd say is the ladies toilets could do with redecorating.

Delicious food and thoughtful service.

Went here as part of a group from work. Staff were all friendly and welcoming with the restaurant clean and tidy. The menu has a great variety of dishes and the food was served quickly - even with all eight of us ordering different mains, rices and breads - and was hot and fresh. The hot towels at the end of the meal were also a very welcome addition!

A gem in the middle of a paradise. We were completely taken by surprise to find a Kerala food restaurant in Cotswold. Mustafa and Salim were amazing making us feel at home. Very much kid friendly since the staff was very accommodating to the demands of our 2yr old. Plenty of parking within the restaurant lot. Food was super yummy and we could see that most of the guests were regulars and locals who knew the quality of the food and service. This was very close to our AirBnB in a wonderful location. We ordered kerala parotha, veg malabari, Beetroot and Spinach pachadi, kerala king prawn, fish curry varutharachathu, Chicken puratiyathu, and everything was mouth watering. Highly recommend to stop by if you are anywhere near Cotswold or Bath and you won't go wrong if you're a fan of Indian food, especially Kerala cuisine!

Second time I have been. Had a great Dosa meal last time. This evening the spicy soup was hot but not too much so it kept the flavour. Delicious. Main course came with huge piece's of chicken. Sauce was spicy but smooth. Chicken cooked very well. Great service.

We had a takeaway delivery so can’t actually comment on atmosphere. The food was nice but totally free of any spice! The only slightly chilli flavour was in a sausage. We have had a lot of Indian meals (both in our 50s) so knew what we were ordering. This was more of a stew than a spicy Indian meal. Had been previously told that this place is hit or miss depending on the particular chef in the kitchen that night. It was all well cooked and delivered promptly but no spice hit at all. Very disappointed.

I really wanted to love the food here as I had heard good things and other reviews are great. Unfortunately, for me the food was average...I had the Chicken Tikka Massala, very little to no spices and the sauce tasted like tomato soup. My friend had the Chicken Jalfrezi which was better but no heat as expected. On the plus side, the Peshwari naan was excellent and the service very good.

After many months, I went back there with my son for dinner for my birthday. A truly excellent restaurant, and terrific value for money. The restaurant was almost full on a Saturday evening in July (with lots of Indians eating, which is always a good sign in an ethnic restaurant). Must have been 60–70 people in the restaurant (plus non-stop takeaways) but service by the manager and just two waiter staff was impeccable. This is very much a Kerala restaurant, not just your standard "Indian" restaurant run by Pakistanis or Bangladeshi.

Authentic Kerala food. Very good place for enjoying food with family and friends.

What a pleasurable delight this quiet unassuming restaurant is. The welcome and service is so friendly, with a smile. We were shown to our table and although my wife found the seat a little low, Yen the table service waitress quickly spotted this and provided a cushion. Excellent. The food choice is varied and very different to what I am used to with it being Keralin. With helpful advice from Yen I chose a fish dish with a lovely spicy masala. My wife went for the lamb biryani, again different to what we have had before, but oh so tender and full of flap or and spices. Add to this very reasonable prices, including the wine and lager! Service was exceptional, as was our food. Thank you. We cannot recommend the restaurant highly enough.

Great food and takeaway, not had a bad curry yet and been several times for dine in and take away. I particularly recommend the Lamb Puratiyathu, in traditional keralan style! Delicious!!!

We, 2 couples, were staying in a pub with rooms near Malmsbury. The food there was expensive and we all fancied an Indian meal. We looked up Trip Advisor and the reviews were good. The building looked a bit quirky from the outside, but very nice inside, there is plenty of parking. We all had starters and main courses and all ordered something different. The food was excellent, the staff helpful and charming and the prices very reasonable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

It was a surprising to see a Kerala hotel in this locality, We had parotta, mean polichathu, and Chicken Briyani, i must say parotta and mean polichathu is the standout ones Was able to feel the same taste like back in India, i highly recommend the restaurant for all

Had a really delicious meal here this evening with my father who moved to Malmsbury today from Tewkesbury. Fabulous food and exceptional service. The manager even drove us back to my father's apartment because it was dark and raining. What lovely people and what a wonderful start for Dad in his new home

This restaurant is pretty white washed and does not serve authentic Kerala food. It tastes sweet and pretty blend. The porotta is also very dry whereas a good porotta would be soft and buttery. =Typical British work party /meal-Go for it. =Looking for authentic Indian food- You will be really disappointed I have realised one thing. If a british Indian restaurant serves samosa with salad, it’s never going to be authentic. Service was good but not impressed the slightest with the food.

Best Indian cuisine in the area.

Got delivery on Saturday, called again on Monday for delivery was abruptly told they don't do delivery, not sure what there issue was , perhaps short staffed but customer service was rather poor really enjoyed their food but won't be ordering from them again .

Went for a quiet meal with an former work colleague. The food was perfectly seasoned and delicious. Been before with work colleagues. We had Aloo gobi, pilau rice, a cheera parippu and a peshwari naan to share. Will come back soon.

Pleasently surprised by this find! We're fussy about Indian food especially outside of London's incredible choices but this was well worth it! Trust the chillies on the menu people, they do not lie, our mouths were on fire but in a good way!!!!

We are lucky enough to have recently moved opposite the Spice Merchant. Not only is the food fantastic, but everyone there is lovely too! I can see why there are so many great reviews - this really is a gem of a restaurant and is already a firm favourite. I’m going to have to do a lot more running!

My 1st visit a busy saturday after work, hadn't booked but they had a single table. food delicous and temperature hot ( i prefer milder curries) coconut naan bread, beetroot side, vegetable lentil curry, pilau rice. Noisy on a saturday night! but if you are hungry, wanting an Indian, its very good value for money, took home the rest in takeaway containers.

The Spice Merchant is excellent. Simple as that. Having lived in Malmesbury for 2 years, this is my absolute favourite restaurant with authentic Keralan cuisine and wonderful service too. Having travelled extensively within Indian, including Kerala in 2020, I have enjoyed excellent authentic Indian food and the Spice Merchant is truly a authentic, fresh ingredients, freshly cooked and absolutely delicious. Please ignore any reviews that say otherwise - it would not be a fair reflection on the restaurant and the Spice Merchant team which deserve top marks. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Just eaten, peshwari chicken- ok, Kheema naan - very spicy!! Mixed platter- extremely dry, over cooked, Saag aloo- dry, mostly potatoes. Tried twice now, staff rude and abrupt on ordering over the phone, and collection. Never again.

Ordered delivery while in town for a festival. Oh my goodness, it was fantastic! Everything was top quality, from the bread, rice, chicken, sauces, extras - choice ingredients. The flavors were excellent, the curries were perfect consistency, not at all runny. I wish we had them where we live!

Absolutely awful. Tasteless, overcooked and tough meat. Microwaved Naan bread. Clearly chefs night off. Disgusting.

Food tastes good! But the experience was bad. They are severely understaffed for a Saturday night. There were long delays. The staff there were also biased towards the local English people and ignored Indian folks for the most part. So good food but bad experience.

The best Indian takeaway I’ve had in the area. I always go for the chicken Dhansak (with lentils). I don’t like too hot and they always make it mild enough (with a little heat) which makes it perfect.

We are privileged to be able to call this our local - we live in Dursley but travel here coz the food is perfect! I always go for the Karalan curry as its a dish you can't get anywhere else. The Spice Merchant is our happy place, lovely staff and management, fabulous food and beers, cannot fault it and they are always happy to help.

Lovely staff, but maybe we picked the wrong dishes off the menu. Having been to India on few occasions and many uk Indian restaurants i was very disappointed. I ordered a simple vegetable Jalfrezi . It didn’t resemble anything like one neither did it taste like one. We won’t be returning sadly.

The order was ready for collection without waiting. Very expensive. 2 mains, rice, 1 side and a bread £36. Food was OK though nothing special, I've had much better for £10 less.

1st time ordering from here, food had plenty flavour but lamb & chicken were over cooked and dry, had the grill mix and have had much better for less, elsewhere. Disappointed to be fair

Wow, a very quick fly in visit to Malmesbury on a long drive home from Cornwall to London and we got so lucky picking this place to grab a takeaway as we were exhausted! Genuinely the best Indian I have ever had! Not greasy, good portion sizes and very reasonable prices too considering how good it is. I didn’t get to see the restaurant but if it’s anywhere as nice as the food then 5 stars!!!

I'm really sorry to say was very disappointed on Friday, ordered takeaway, had to wait extra 30mins more than the 30min was originally told, when got home 5 mins away, food was cold, nan wasn't cooked enough, lentils hard n cold in dal, garlic not cooked though. Just very unsatisfied. Will try other restaurant next time.

Wow! A true taste of Kerala. As we walked in the aroma took me back to our visit to that part of India 10 years ago. Food was delicious and authentic to the region. Although they were very busy, service was good too.

We visited on a Saturday night. The people running the Spice Merchant are fantastic - speedy, always friendly service, always eager to please. A great selection of wines, beers, and spririts are delivered alongside excellent food. Favourites amongst our group is the mixed platter starter...

The food was really nice. True authentic taste of keralan food. Me and my friend went to eat lunch and we ordered biriyani , porotta and chicken curry. It was the first and best keralan food i had in uk. This restaurant is equipped to have a high capacity seating. Suitable for a large group gathering as well. It is the only kerala food restaurant around this place. The food was really tasty and i do Highly recommend this restaurant.

I had the chicken Rogan josh.it was amazing. the curry was not too spicy. Just the way i like it.it one of the best south Indian restaurant i been to.

Rudest and most incompetent service in many years reminds me of the Wong Kei in Soho. Passed the crisp papads test Good Massala Dosai Terrible curries no idea which recipe book the chef was using old mutton awful spicing nothing barely recognisable But the awful...

Probably the best tasting indian food I have ever eaten... better than any in west london. Must repeat this opinion still superb food August 2021
