Disappointing! We’ve been going to this restaurant for 20 years, and I’m afraid it seems to have gone down hill. Previously it’s been good, but this time all 4 curries seem to be the same colour, only differing with the spice and meat. Bland! Service felt rushed even though the restaurant was near empty. Drinks very expensive. Sorry, but this was out last visit.

Staff were abrupt which made the evening awkward. With food still on our plates, we were asked several times if we had finished. The chicken was tough as though it had been warmed up a few times. Overall, rushed and unwelcoming, despite the restaurant being half full.

First visit and will be last one , service was average , but the food when presented was barely warm , plates were cold so overall waste of money , as this was a family meal and I had expressed my disappointment then it would of ruined the evening.

We have eaten at Spice Mahal before and had good food and service. However last night the service was almost worthy of a Basil Fawlty episode. The waiter was really rude when we dared to ask to reduce the amount of poppadoms from 10 to 8, making a huge deal about having to rip off the order from his note pad, storm away from the table, put it in a bin, come back and start the order again. He did this twice, it was so odd, his explanation being that if he didn't do this, the kitchen would get confused. He was so rude, I at first thought he was being ironic. It made us feel very uncomfortable. The food was ok, nothing special this time. The atmosphere was really quite odd, staff looked angry. I won't be back.

Delicious food, good service and atmosphere. Only complaint is feeling rushed to leave, but it is very popular. Booking essential. Take away available too.

I order here at least twice a month for me and my familys treat of takeaways. Wonderful food everytime. Sadly the manners though....they are lacked by the person taking the phone orders. Food is fab!

We do love the food here. Normally do a take out but when we do dine in, it can be a bit fast on service, so tell them to slow down and take your time. We went in Jan for my birthday arrived 0650 and was pretty much ready to pay at 0745 😂..great choice of curry, ample parking

food took over an hour to come, people who came in after us ordered there food had a starter and were eating there main. They then when reminded, brought out our food cold. we sent it back it came out again barely warm. If any of my family get food poisoning the food standard agency will be informed

Been there many times and been good unfortunately went there on Sunday evening the food was tasteless forgot to add the spices all you could taste was salt possibly a new chef or trying to save money

My family and I had a fabulous meal here last night. The restaurant was fully booked but that didn’t stop the staff delivering quality food and service. We were a large group that had all individually chosen different dishes and all were delicious. A special mention of how friendly and accommodating the staff were, they really added to our family celebrations and kept us laughing throughout the evening. Thank you for a great evening! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Friendly staff and quick service, however curries had no flavour and we're bland in our opinion. Four of us dined and we ordered 3 different curries, but with no flavour they all tasted the same.

Very disappointed 😞 We have been eating here regularly for nearly 6 years, since we moved to the area, and the food has always been excellent. Tonight, our naan breads were both undercooked, with one being inedible, and one of our curries had incredibly dry chicken - as if it had been cooked twice. Unfortunately, as this was a takeaway (we alternate dine-in and take-out), it wasn't easy for us to give feedback directly or have the issues remedied.

Restaurant was empty and the staff couldn't wait to get us out the door. Everything was very rushed from taking our order to collecting plates as soon as we had put down the cutlery! Food wasn't great, naan bread undercooked, probably rushing to get it out. All in all, very unsatisfactory..

The chapatis are half cooked. The curry was really bad. It looks like they have just reheated it. The pulav was just yellow looking rice with zero taste. The rice was hard as if it were taken from the fridge and reheated. The service was awful. The waiter had no idea about the menu. The owner cared less.

I have been going here since it opened but last trip was very poor. We were rushed through the meal and table being cleared all the time table booked for 7 at 8.45 we were given the bill asked how we were going to pay and then they started clearing up. Rice was put on the plate not on a side dish Very disappointed.

Terrible service, made to feel a nosence, asked for high chair didn't have one ,we had a 3 course meal was rushed took food away before finished ,had a bad stomach all night, 5 of us ,party of six ,would never go there again. I should of now when I saw all the bright colours coming out in the food,

It is probably one of the best curry houses in the North Bristol area. It is packed on a Friday and Saturday night with queues for take away. Abdul and the front of house team are brilliant. They will make recommendations if you just want something a bit different too. When I say it’s busy and popular I don’t know many places that have a car park attendant to direct you if you’re in the restaurant or picking up a take away! Well done to the chap too because I wouldn’t be standing there in the pouring rain!

Amazing Indian restaurant! Staff all very friendly and food is always freshly prepared! Have eaten in and taken away and have never been disappointed! Would highly rate and would definitely say one of the best Indian restaurants I have eaten at. Thank you for another wonderful meal!

Poor takeaway this time. Been to this Indian restaurant many times in the last 10 years but recently their standards have slipped. Ordered lamb but got chicken or meal does not taste like it should. Rogan lamb tasted like lamb in a strong gravy and chicken madras was very lacking in spices and heat apart from the overwhelming taste of coriander. I doubt we will be returning to this place again. With continued disappointments.

Ordered takeaway picked up by my daughter. They ignored her for 20 mins. When she complained - our food was given immediately- cold. Obviously had just been sat in the kitchen. When I rang to complain they were incredibly rude - told me to f...off.containers not closed properly so food spilt. Will never use again.

Food was delicious however we were disgusted how rushed we felt and how grumpy the staff seemed. By 2130 they couldn’t wait to get us out on a Saturday night when there was only one other table being used! Will not be going back!

Love this place, food always good and lovely atmosphere

Visited the spice mahal this evening with family and had a lovely evening. Food was five stars and service was fantastic. Staff were super friendly, and although we ordered more than we could handle there was no problem with us taking this home. Will definitely return. Great location too.

Great curry house, the chef's special menu is particularly good. They do a lot of takeaways so it can get busy but highly recommended!

Great restaurant and reasonably priced

Well, food is average if one knows authentic dishes. Some of the dishes are not actually what they meant to be. For example, lamb Karahi is no where near to a proper lamb karahi. I think they need learn that onions and tomatoes needs to be chopped for Karahi rather than cutting into six pieces and throwing in. However, the portion is good, and so is the atmosphere.

3 different dishes ordered by our group all tasted pretty much the same apparently. Glad I had chicken tikka with salad.

If you like Indian food, this is the best place for miles! The restaurant is intimate and friendly, and they do a 10% discount on takeaway, which even on the busiest evenings takes around 40 minutes to prepare - recommend you, therefore, phone your order in advance. Garlic chicken Bhuna is my personal recommendation. Also, vegetable khorma is nice if you have somebody who prefers vegetarian options. Eating in is a relaxing pleasure, with dishes coming straight from the kitchen to the table in record time. The food is superbly cooked, and there is no sense of pressure to eat up and leave. The opposite is true. The staff are always welcoming and encourage you to take your time and savour the excellent food. Booking is advisable, but midweek, you can usually grab a table without doing so.

First time here and was not disappointed. Great variety of food and, despite the menu size, everything we ordered was top notch. It was nice to see a beer I hadn't encountered before, Bangla, which complemented the meal very well. I love that this place was fairly busy on a Monday when most restaurants, including mine, wouldn't dream of opening on such a quiet day. Spice Mahal truly represents the paradigm we should all aim for, with regular repeat customers driving consistent and new business alike.

Great local takeaway as well as eating in. Gets booked up quick so always book in advance.

The food was amazing with a amazing started including popadoms and a variety of side dips including an onion and corrianda refreshing salad and a creamy coconut sauce ect ect for the main course we got lamb karahi, king prawn biriani, chicken Madras and a vegetable curry that come with the bitiani. Pilau rice. As well as this we had some piswari naan and garlic naan overall the lamb was tender. The prawns lived up to the expectations and piswari sweet with coconut.

Food was on the cold side and overcooked . Service was poor and unhelpful. They made a major confussion with the bill , 12 people and they refused to indevidualise the bill . So it was a free for all . And they still said we owed money, which the wife paid just to get out of there. We will not be back.

We regularly visit this restaurant and always received excellent, tailored service. Staff are always friendly and polite, providing a welcoming atmosphere. Food is exceptional, will definitely be visiting again soon.

We often use this little restaurant have done for over 15 years. Staff are brilliant with the kids coconut rice is the best around dishes are pretty big. Always ended up taking food home. Yes it's a little dated and hidden away but atmosphere is always lovely. There are private boothes or open area, we always end up meeting new people here. It's a friendly welcoming atmosphere Nice selection of food. Which sits on warming plates so it stays hot. Even the lime pickle is popular with the whole family. Would have rated 4.5 if I could.

I have been a regular customer of this Restaurant for many years. I have tried many of the local Indian restaurants in the area and found this restaurant to be the best. The food is excellent, fully flavored and the staff is friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend it.

Met some ex works colleagues at the Spice Mahal. Excellent food and service. Staff are friendly and nothing was too much trouble. It was very busy for a Thursday evening but service was still very good. Reasonable prices at £25 each.. Will definitely go back soon.

Unfriendly waiters with not even a smile. Prawn Balti was awful. Tasted of vinegar and the prawns were tiny and tasteless. Nothing else but a bright scarlet sauce and cost over £10 ! Not at all impressed. I won't be going back.

One of the best Indian restaurants around for sheer taste and quality. In my opinion no other restaurant in the local area matches the authenticity when it comes to the food where others places dishes were clearly frozen and reheated. Don’t be fooled by the dated decor the food is delicious and the staff always hardworking and professional!

A favourite curry house, for my mate on our fortnightly curry experience. Again this evening we had a very pleasant time at the Spice Mahal. It was well attended, without too many empty tables. The food was excellent as normal.

Have to say I've never had a more tasteless Indian dinner. We ordered takeaway and although the portions were a good size my chicken mahal just tasted of chicken in gravy, no spice or taste at all...and I'm covid free so there's no reason I shouldn't taste anything! Our starter order was wrong as well. Very expensive to have a tasteless dinner.

Lovely friendly restaurant, but on two consecutive occasions the food has been extremely salty. This has been with several different dishes. Not sure if there may have been a change of chef 🤷🏻‍♂️.

One of the best curry houses in the area. We’ve tried others in the area and you will not find anything better. The staff are super friendly and polite. The food is fresh and authentic and the flavours of different dishes can be easily distinguished where all others fail in the local area with authenticity the Spice Mahal is amazing!

Had a curry on Saturday night 8pm waited an hour for are meal when it turned up one plate was dirty had to send it back and the meal was warm the only thing that was hot was the green chilli want be going back there again

6 of us only 1 error where a lamb dish was requested and a vegetable dish was dished out. Once realised a second meal was sorted. Ran out of alcohol free except 1 brand tasted awful. Other than that we had a very enjoyable evening.
