Have only ever had takeaway but on every occasion it’s been absolutely superb. Food tonight arrived super quick and tasted incredible. Will definitely have to come and dine in next time.

The first curry house I've seen to offer meat-free Quorn chicken pieces alongside the usual options. Made me feel very welcome as a vegan, and the Quorn pieces were cooked in an authentic and delicious style.

Really good food, better than previous so hopefully on the way up in quality. Took about 50 minutes to arrive so a little on the long side but it IS a bank holiday and was worth it. I’d recommend the Chicken Chilli Masala, the tikka chicken is great as it’s clearly oven cooked quality chicken that’s not soggy. Lovely fat peshwari naan as well.

I do like this little Indian restaurant. Its been there a long time. I new menu is good and additional chefs specials are a bonus. 👍🙂

The drinks are 25 percent cheaper than other Indian restaurants and the food is cooked to your instructions just ask the manager Jitesh brilliant friendly service.

Fabulous, freshly cooked food, nicely presented, friendly, helpful staff. One of our group has allergies and the staff understood, were very helpful and accommodating, and she had a wonderful meal as a result. This was our first visit to the Mumtaz, but it certainly won't be the last. I've had many balti meals in the Midlands and many travels around India and this was up there with the best of them.

Ordered from here last night for the first time since moving to the area. We chose a few different dishes and all of it was really nice, lots of flavour and good portions. Delivered on time and nice and hot. Would definitely recommend and will order again. Thank you very much

We were the only people in the restaurant and the food took an hour to arrive. Cheap, tough cut of lamb boiled and left to go cold and hard presented in a luke warm, lacklustre sauce (same for 2 of us dining). Complained to management who replaced with exactly the same. Recently dined in 'The Bournemouth Lahore' whose north Indian and Pakistani cuisine and hospitality was excellent.

Have ordered twice on line recently. Very easy to order and delivery on time. Various chicken dishes ordered - all with distinct flavours. Would recommend ordering one degree higher spiciness than described, ie we found “medium” dishes to be quite mild. However, that’s a matter of taste. Good value for money.

Not very impressed with the meal that I’ve ordered this evening considering the last time the food was spectacular… my chicken biryani and garlic nan arrived stone cold. The Jalfrezi was tasteless & the biryani sauce had so much oil in it sat on the top I couldn’t bring myself to eat it!

I rang up to order a delivery, I was spoken to with appalling attitude. I was trying to pay over the phone with my bank card but the man on the phone was becoming increasingly frustrated as he couldn’t understand simple English (long card number) “oh my god, I don’t have time for this! You should have cash” and started to shout down the phone to me! I will never be using this take away AGAIN! I will also tell all family and friends too.

Booked online, easy. And food was ready for collection on time. Staff showed a good respect for social distance. And as always the food was brilliant! Really looking forward to sitting in and eating. X

Felt like I needed to say this as the mumtaz is a small company and it is always needed during times like this. This is the best takeaway in Thornbury, I always order from here and the curries are absolutely lush, definitely recommend!

I had a curry night with friends and family on 1 Feb 2020 to celebrate my upcoming 60th birthday. The Mumtaz couldn't have done more to make it such a successful and special evening. Great food and service in a relaxed atmosphere. All the team worked really hard to serve 45 people. Well done Mumtaz!

We regularly order food delivery and always enjoy the food. We have sampled many items off the menu including meat and vegetarian dishes and have never had a bad meal. The staff are friendly and the food is always delivered in good time. You can now also order collection and delivery direct from their website too

Yet another excellent meal at the Mumtaz - waiter service is polite and respectful, food excellent, waiting time minimal.

Food was stone cold and tasteless. I ordered a vegetable byriani which was basically tasteless rice with a load of frozen veg chucked in. The onion bahji was a funny orange colour and was soft and cold right through. The only thing that tasted OK was the poppadoms. Shan't order from there again due to it not being cheep and I could have made a better byriani myself.

Have just received a delivery from this restaurant , it arrived sooner than I expected so thought the worse , how wrong was I! It was truly authentic , not overly expensive and more than thoroughly enjoyable, I'm quite fussy but simply cannot fault what I have just devoured, that is the best genuine indian food ( How it should be ) I have enjoyed in a very long time .

We were after halal takeaway, Mumtaz came up on our search. My daughter is lactose intolerant, we normally struggle when to choose. However, not only we had more than couple of dishes to choose from but we actually enjoyed the food and would go back again when around Thornbury.

Have visited this restaurant on and off over the past 20 years and once again had an excellent meal with my family in the Mumtaz. Food is excellent, the place is spotless and the staff friendly and want to please. Others come and go but the Mumtaz is worth our support.

I have eaten here numerous times per year for many years and I am always greeted by a friendly member of staff. The food is amazing, Always the right temperature, well cooked & well presented. It is consistent and absolutely delicious. Prices are good and similar to others although the portions seem larger which is always a bonus! Its a calm, clean environment and good space around the tables. There are quieter areas too. Would definitely recommend it.

I can't understand the comments people have put on here. Firstly, I have not eaten inside the restaurant, but have always had take aways. The food is A-Mazing. Hot. Tasty. Fresh. Delicious. I hail from Birmingham, where the Ladypool Road restaurants are top notch. In Thornbury, we are not so blessed with a variety of cuisine; but this is fabulous food. The Reshmi kebabs are a dream. This is THE best tasting food I have ever had in the local area and surrounding areas. HIghly recommend as a take away. Top marks.

Ambience and decor of the restaurant was pretty bland. The restaurant felt dead by all accounts, not just due to lack of customers but the overall colour schemes and the basic furniture that was used.

We visited on a Friday evening, there were only one or two other couples there and the restaurant totally lacked atmosphere. We were seated at a small table (there were only 2 of us but as the restaurant was empty we felt that we could have had a larger one) and a really surly waiter offered us menus. No welcome, no warm greeting. I ordered a gin and tonic and when it came it was ready mixed, no mixer bottle offered to mix to my liking, and with a tiny sliver of ice. There was no fizz, in fact it only tasted vaguely of gin. We ordered our food and the poppadums came quite quickly and were OK. The mango chutney and raita were fairly tasteless. Our main meals were disappointing - my chicken dish consisted of very small pieces of meat - could have been the bits left on the carcass after a roast chicken has been carved. The table was not big enough to accommodate the dishes and plates, about a third of our dinner plates were over the table edge. We had to ask 3 times for our drinks to be replenished (I didn't risk another G&T;) and twice for the bill. We were surprised at the total on the bill, it was far higher than we'd expected, especially for the quality of the food and the dreadful service. We first came to this restaurant when we moved to the area 6 years ago and haven't been back since. We won't be returning again.

I am surprised at reading the other reviews, as this is the best Indian I have found since moving to Bristol. I've had takeaway from them twice, and been to eat there twice. The curries have been excellent, only once was my pasanda not hot enough. Never had any other problems with any of the other food at all.

I've never eaten here before and was slightly sceptical when I saw previous reviews. I decided to order a Pakistani dish which consists of meatballs and an egg curry. It was 40 minutes between ordering and receiving the meal, although I was the only customer in the restaurant at the time. And the food was fine. It was meatballs in a curry sauce. I reminded them about the egg and they put a hard boiled egg in the sauce. I'd probably go back and perhaps order something else. Tasty enough. Nothing exceptional, and not particularly cheap, but not deserving of some of the more scathing reviews on here.

Superb service & delivery time. Food piping hot when received and delicious. Definitely recommend. Had a few times and will continue to do so. Chinese in Alveston Line always engaged so will be Indian for now on!

It is odd to find an Indian restaurant this far done the rankings but when you eat there you may be able to see why. I thought the onion bhaji was a tad over cooked but but it was ok. The Chicken Tikka Pathia was disappointing, the chicken was rather colourless (perhaps not Tikka) and a couple of bits didn’t look like breast of chicken. The sauce was at best a spicy tomato sauce with little substance. Perhaps the worst aspect was that the waiter stank of stale cigarettes every time he came to the table. Very off putting when he is bringing your evening meal. Mumtaz is not for me and there is some distance to travel if trip-advisor rankings are important.

We live in Thornbury and since the demise of Moguls have gone to Winterbourne or Downend for our curry as we have never had a good one from Mumtaz, we thought we would give them another try tonight - Oh dear, it was horrible, the poppadoms were disgusting, cooked in oil that was obviously "off". they went in the bin. the curry was absolutely tastless, the dansak only magrinally less so than the chicken sag, which wasnt curry at all, just chicken and spinach !!/I will never go there again, Please someone open a DECENT curry house in Thornbury

If you're looking for waiters who constantly hover around you this isn't the place for you but if you like a really good curry, not too bothered about plush decor and don't want to be over charged, pay this restaurant a visit. We visited with our family and friends and all had an excellent authentic curry, really nice cuts of chicken and perfectly spiced. Our chicken Jalfrezi and Saag Prawn were superb, we've never had a bad meal here.

We had four meals, all bland. Service was poor, ranging from grumpy to borderline rude, and to top it off the place its self isn't exactly nice. No idea how it has such high reviews.

It was about 8.45 pm and my business partner and I fancied a late meal after a long days work. We had our hearts set on an Indian curry so parked up near the Thornbury High St and went in search of a restaurant. Not knowing the area too well, we asked a few passers-by for recommendations. It seemed there was only one Indian restaurant open this particular evening and it was the Muntaz, and sadly the general consensus of the people we asked was to avoid it. But how bad could it be we thought...

New Year's Day curry with friends (it's become a tradition) and we've never had a bad experience here. However this year the food was even better! Only niggle was we had to wait quite a long time for the food to arrive, which didn't bother us and it was worth the wait! Recommended.

Chicken jalfrezi, Bombay chicken, rice, Peshwari naan, Bombay potato, chicken pakoras, poppadoms & pickles. £32. Both main courses had plenty of good size pieces of chicken. All delicious. Only letdown the poppadoms tasted as if cooked in old fat. We would order again.

6 of us enjoyed a nice meal here after a concert in Thornbury. My hashina (lamb kebab on a sizzling dish) was terrific. Everyone enjoyed their food and service was attentive. Good place.

Sometimes the food we've had here has been fairly good. Other times, especially the takeaway, has been swimming in water (defrosted?). You're just not sure what you're going to get. Could be better. Likewise the service.

Thursday night 10pm, place was empty which says a lot. Staff continually stared at us as if we shouldn't be there. I think the lamb tiikka was beef . This place is going down the pan as the quality is poor, but the prices are...

Visitamos el Mumtaz para mi cumpleaños hermanas, hicimos bien y temprano, ya que no me gusta restaurantes concurridos. El servicio era genial, el personal era simpático y la comida era deliciosa! Somos de una familia asiática así que nos gusta el curry de buena calidad! Hicieron un trabajo fantástico. Yo hice una tarta de cumpleaños para mi hermana y me trajo e incluso cantaron, que era preciosa. El único inconveniente fue el precio de las bebidas era demasiado caro, pero el precio de la comida era muy razonable. Este es un buen restaurante si lo que quieres es una comida íntima en un lugar tranquilo, pequeños encuentros familiares, ya que no está ocupada y la comida es excelente.

Now the only Indian restaurant in Thornbury I had heard good things about Mumtaz, but was rather disappointed. The food was fine, the service was efficient, but there was no atmosphere to speak of. I expect an Indian to reflect their culture, colourful and friendly, but the walls are mostly bare white, the floor is laminate (ok, very easy to clean but very plain). The waiters were efficient but not chatty, they didn't seem to see you as a person to be cultivated, I've had much better interaction at supermarket checkouts. So if I want a decent meal I'd come back, but for an evenings experience I'd go elsewhere.

This was our first visit to this establishment and overall I was quite impressed. I used my benchmark dish, a Chicken Jalfrazi, to see how the heat and flavour levels compare to others. There was a general consensus that this is a good curry house! Slightly dated presentation and atmosphere was the boundary between a 4 & 5 rating.

We ordered our drinks and food and food was quick to the table although the curry was top notch i had an issue with my keema naan two thirds of it was just a plain boring naan it was only the last third that had all the keema. When we finished our food we got the bill and checked the bill and for two drinks it was 13 pound. Obviously we checked with the waiters why this was so apparently for a pint of cobra it was 4 pound 75 and for a double brandy it was 9 pound for that price i would expect a bloody gold flake absolute joke would never visit again at those price when they go to aldi across the road and buy the cheapest alcohol

Big fan of the 'Sunday Night Curry' - a tradition started whilst living in the centre of Bristol.I moved to Thornbury a couple of months ago and have now been to Mumtaz 5 times, so I now write this review knowing that nothing has been a one off and it is accurate.This place is not good! The Madrass, Patia and Dansak dishes lack any real flavor or heat - though credit where it is due, they do the sweeter dishes very well!As for the service, this is ran by the most miserable people I have ever met. There is one chap that tries his best, though there is a shorter 'heavier set' man with glasses who seems to just hang out behind the par looking at paperwork who I am assuming is the owner/manager who drags this place into the pits.He is the the most tactless, abrupt, rudest and grumpiest man I have ever met. He has brought my food to me twice and bangs the plates down and doesn't speak other than to state the name of the dish or to grunt things like "move your glass" - Pleases or Thank-yous would be nice.I ALWAYS tip, but never on card (as you don;t know where it goes) if paying by card I tip in cash. On visit number 3, we had 3 curries, 3 rices - came to about £40 ish which is good. I went to pay this on card and on me telling him to enter the figure on the bill into the card machine 'Captain Happiness' slammed the card machine down in front of me and said "this does not include my service charge".Needless to say that the £10 I had ready in my pocket (as I had no 5's!) stayed exactly where it was on that occasion!I would make a stand and never go here again, though in reality, where else can I go for an Indian Thornbury? As 'm new to the town I don;t know how well established this place it but it's came across to me as the owner clearly knowing they have local monopoly and make zero effort - the sooner some competition opens up the better!!!!

We went to enjoy a family meal,The staff,especially the really tall waiter was making us feel very uncomfortable by stood staring.The food was average not particularly hot just warm,When asked to use the downloaded buy -one get one free offer...was told it needed to be printed out.This is not mentioned on their website,just says to download.When I said this still said no to honour,even though I mentioned to the waiter before ordering he said yes no problem..So in the end after a verbal battle they only took a tiny amount from the total bill.I have eaten in various Indian restaurants over many years..but this experience was very off putting and wouldn't be recommending this place or getting ripped off from here again.BEWARE YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
