Spice Lounge in West Oxfordshire

Not as grand as it appears on the website, but agreeable and comfortable. Service very pleasant but inexpert. Waiter did not know how to pour wine, nor for that matter, water: one glass overfilled. And after the meal, clearing remining food snd stacking dishes should not be done at table. Papadoms unevenly cooked. Food presentation fine, sensible quantities of decent but somewhat underflavoured dishes. Could benefit from some competition

A really nice Sunday night dinner here. Easy to book and reserve online. Warm welcome, nice cosy atmosphere. Very friendly and polite staff. Starters and mains were both good. I had the onion pakhora/bhaji for starter, and the chicken biryani for main (which comes with a side order of delicious tarka dal). Cobra beer to wash it all down with, and my wife had a respectable Australian Pinot Grigio white wine. I finished with the ras malai, that was fresh and delicious. Can definitely recommend.

Absolute 10 out of 10 curry. Reasonably priced. Perfectly cooked and delicious. Birthday dinner treat for 4, Mains and sides selected and the portions so generous we've got enough for dinner again tomorrow!

Stayed down in Burford for work with my colleagues and we ended up eating at this lovely place almost every single evening! Amazing food and customer service, I cannot recommend this place enough!

Had a wonderful meal with my wife on our anniversary, As a local in Burford we are planning to visit more often and look forward to trying different dishes, Just one thing we applied for spice club membership but to date have had no response.

Great spot, one of the best curry houses I’ve visited. You can tell there is some actual love and care put into the dishes rather than just generic curry sauce and cubes of meat with a different name. Garlic Chilli Chicken is outstanding.

The food was amazing, service was good. I want to add more things they have a very clean washroom. The staff of the restaurant are very friendly.

We visited on a Wednesday evening and the place was packed creating a great atmosphere, despite this the staff were very accommodating at finding us a table even though we hadn't booked. The food was fantastic, one of the best Indian restaurants I have visited in the UK, would highly recommend!

Probably the best Bangladeshi / Indian food we have eaten in a long, long time. This was an absolute highlight of our stay in Burford. What looks like a small venue opens up like the Tardis inside to a wonderfully attired restaurant. The food is superb and the staff as friendly and discretely attentive as you could wish for. If I lived nearer I would certainly be visiting this place extremely frequently.

Despite arriving at a very busy time the waiting staff at the Spice Lounge Burford were very attentive. A special mention goes out to Emon who made time to have a chat and ensured we were well looked after. The food was very tasty with the Onion bhaji starter the best we have had in a long time.

Went with friends after work for a meal. The food was absolutely amazing. Their Chef is a master cook. We had the Lamb dish. Very friendly staff. Very cosy atmosphere. You won't be disappointed. Looking forward to going back.

We called in here for lunch whilst visiting Burford & had a delicious chicken biriyani. At £15.95, it was definitely value for money, as eating out in Burford is very expensive, £18 for sausage & mash in one place, so we we were very pleased with our choice. Lovely, relaxed surroundings & very pleasant staff, I can definitely recommend it.

It was a scrumptious dinner. Amount of dish was a little bit small in amount for three of us. Two kebabs chicken and boti was there. I forgot its name. It was an amazing experience of Bangladeshi restaurant in an english village. Cotswold.

An excellent Indian restaurant. You can tell the staff care about the food and service, both of which were excellent. Not a huge choice of dishes but all the usual suspects are catered for. Service was prompt and very efficient despite the restaurant being very busy when we visited on a Friday night, just as well we pre booked. Would recommend this restaurant for a break from the traditional pub fare offered in the area.

We moved up from Wales a while ago and have tried many curry restaurants but we found this one and always have a friday takeaway but last night we had a sit down meal and I must say it was outstanding the service was amazing we had a wonderful evening we definitely recommend you try this restaurant 😀

Super tasty food. Menu does not have my go to lamb madras so opted for the Naga lamb. Asked the waiter to dumb down the heat a bit and the message landed in the kitchen. Heat at a madras level and packed full of flavour. The guys in the kitchen clearly know what they are doing, lamb was perfectly prepared and succulent, good depth in all the food I tasted. The service was terrific, this restaurant is well worth the visit if in the area and looking for a delicious meal. A succulent Indian meal.

I called in after a long day out to grab something on the way home, my first visit to Spice Lounge. Food was served incredibly quickly and was piping hot when I got home with eat I had poppadom, mixed starter and lamb methi. It was absolutely delicious and full of flavour. Really fabulous food and good portion. Meat was tender, sauce was full of great flavours. The little sauces and tub of onion with the poppadom was very tasty too The restaurant looked really nice with a lovely atmosphere so I will definitely try a visit soon to eat in when I have company The only thing I would like to politely suggest (and it isn't a criticism, all places seem to do this) is that it would be great to have a rice in a really small little tub. I can't eat a whole tub on my own but I'd like a small portion on the side but it isn't worth ordering a normal size, but would be nice to have really small tubs for single diners? Will be back soon and looking forward to working through the menu as my mouth is watering thinking about what I ate last night. Taken me a long time to find a takeaway/restaurant with such good food, and this is it

Amazing food, probably the best curry I have had in a restaurant. Big portions. Lots of veg in the dish I got, which is great! Quick and very friendly service.

We had the chicken tikka starter with a korma and chicken Shashlik rice and naan. The food was really fresh and tasty, the service was excellent. In common with a lot of places now there is a 10% service charge. With our couple of soft drinks each, it was just over £70 for two of us, so a little on the pricey side, I would, however, recommend.

Our family of five were staying nearby in a holiday cottage and saw good reviews for here on Tripadvisor and so we decided to order a takeaway (collection). With three children it can be easier to eat in in the evenings when they’re getting tired. I had a vegetable madras which is my usual order and it was the best one I’ve had in a long time. Very tasty. Everything we ordered was fantastic. I just wish you were local to our home :) Will be back if we’re ever in the area again.

Visiting for the weekend. Looked very nice from the outside. Food was average and very over priced for certain items such as rice and bread. Averaging £6 each. Owner was very abrupt after asking for service charge to be removed due to the lack of service.

As we were entering, a takeaway customer told us we wouldn't be disappointed and he was right. Curries were tasty and nicely spiced with a range of heats. I'd happily go back anytime.

We live locally and often our group of friends meet here to have a catch up over dinner, recently though the service has been rubbish. Last week I went into the restaurant to book a table, the young man hiding behind the bar pretending he couldn’t see me eventually stood up, I asked to book a table he told me to book it it on-line! 🤯 A bit perplexed I said but I’m in the restaurant now, why can’t you just take the details and write it in the book! He then spent the next few mins making it as difficult as possible, so exasperated with his nonsense excuses I left saying I would call and speak to someone who knows how to write a name, date, time and number of people on the correct page in the diary. Tonight I called to make the booking and to my utter dismay the same young man answered the phone, and guess what his response was when I asked to book a table, you can do it online! I told him the date and time I wanted and he still hadn’t managed to master getting it in the right order, long story short Spice lounge we have taken our booking elsewhere. Your junior staff would definitely benefit from some customer service training, because right now it’s more like customer prevention.

Very disappointed. I have Indian food regularly and this was one of the most tasteless ones I have had in a while. Maybe it was just a one off bad evening. The waiting staff OK but not over helpful - asked for some tap water and it came 10 minutes later, replaced cutlery clumsily placed on table, not a smile in sight. Atmoshere in the room upstairs was non existent. And to top it all one has to pay Burford prices.

Puzzled by some of the positive reviews. This is the most tasteless, bland Indian meal I have had in a long time. Not only that but also the most expensive but I guess just going along with Burford prices. Staff very cold and lacked atmosphere. Will not be visiting again.

Lovely menu with everything you’d expect from a classic Indian restaurant - the korma was very nice and not as sweet you’d come to expect.

The food here is EXCELLENT and we will definitely be back. The restaurant is smart but has a nice relaxed atmosphere with friendly & attentive staff. Every dish was outstanding -Honestly can't wait to return and try all the dishes we didn't get to order.

A charming restaurant with charming staff! We went twice in a week because the food was so delicious. We particularly recommended the Shatkora which is a Bangladeshi dish - wonderfully citrusy and spicy. The service was efficient and friendly and we highly recommend the Spice Lounge to anyone visiting Burford.

We live in a far off land with a high density of curry houses (SouthLondon) and this place was a match for any off them. Excellent service. Reasonably priced wine. Nice decor. Would particularly recommend the chicken with imported Bangladeshi spices. Something a little different and gorgeous.

Outstanding curries, great flavour and taste. Service excellent. Desserts also very tasty, topped off by great liqueur coffees.

My last review was only a few weeks ago (5 stars all round) so I thought it worth a follow up review as I went back to the Spice Lounge last night. The food was just as delicious, the service faultless and the welcome charming. This place just gets better and better. Highly recommend the chicken tikka (tandoori), and the naan bread is the best you will ever taste. Thank you to the team for making my birthday celebration treat with my brother so magical.

Great food and service couldn't fault it

I have tried a lot of Indian/Bangladeshi restaurants up and down the UK and I can safely say that the quality at Spice Lounge is very high and one of the best I have tried. The quality has been consistent over the two year period, even with change of chefs it never has faltered. A restaurant very very deserving of it’s excellent reviews!! I think Jeremy Clarkson needs to represent the Cotswolds a bit better and give Spice Lounge a shout out in his column in The Times!!

We dined there on Saturday evening and enjoyed a really superb evening. Throughout the staff were very friendly and attentive, all our dishes were delicious and well portioned and the restaurant itself had a very clean and attractive feel to it, very impressed, thank you.

We had been looking for a top class Indian Restaurant and by chance found the Spice Lounge while savouring the charming Cotswold delights of Burford. The restaurant door was open as we walked past and its well appointed interior invited us in. We were met by a helpful and friendly member of staff. We decided to come back later to eat but were prevented from doing so that day. We were due to leave the area before the weekend and were disappointed that a meal in the restaurant could not be fitted in to our holiday schedule but the option of a 'Take away' was accepted. And what a special treat that proved to be. The food was exciting and delicious. Next time we bring our caravan to the area a booking in the restaurant will be top of the list of must do activities.
